Dave, not gonna lie, I like your personality even more than your charismatic, enthusiastic son. You remind me of a dad I wish I had. My dad has Lewy Body Dementia and is basically not functional at this point. It is so cool to see a friendly, enthusiastic, active dad living his dream alongside his son. Your wit and intelligence comes through in your kiddo, but it's clear who has more experience using it. Happy Mother's Day to your wife.
Happy Mothers Day Out of Spec Mom!
This is what EV road tripping is all about. Love it
Love watching your channel! ❤❤ Forgive me for saying so, but you are such a cute couple. I agree wholeheartedly with you, Buc-ee’s is the best!!!!
I am impressed - you have more energy on 45 minutes of sleep than I do on 7 hours.
The Red Bull and coffee played a big part!
Really enjoy your videos much more normal.roadtrip than Kyle's road races
307 wh/mile is amazingly efficient 👍
We just completed a 2K mile road trip and used FSD probably 60% of the trip, loved it. And being 72 wifey and I needed to stop well before the car needed charging, and we prefer the restroom facilities at SuperCharges than rest or truck stops. So for us it’s a no brainer.
Happy Mother's Kathy!! I'm already loving the highlights in the beginning.
10:37 nice CRX 😊
12:57 😂😂 she was not smiling.
When I was a kid, I would annoy my father on the trips to Florida with the stop to go see Pedro. He was too cheap to stay at the motel, and I was so jealous of my friend Jimmy that he would stay there!
Love these videos!!!!!! Yall are the best!
Gm Dave and Kathy,.. nice video guys. Ty
in Texas....there are signs on highway.. left lane is for passing. i have heard drivers getting tickets.
it sucks to be stuck behind 2 cars next to each other.. traveling the same speed.
it is also unsafe.. for a car to be forced to pass in the right lane, because driver refuses to move from the left lane.
Woosh. Part 2 already, cheers Dave and Kathy!
Dave is lucky to have Kathy as a companion on EV road trips. My wife would look for 4 - 5 star dining options at charging sites. They don’t exist. We couldn’t stop at unhealthy fast food restaurants. Fried food, donuts, and junk food, no way.
100%. I road tripped from Long Island to Ann Arbor, MI with my father. Such a breeze. He doesn’t mind eating at Sheetz, Wawa, etc. My wife on the other hand, she’s so picky. If the charger is not in front of the Cheesecake Factory, it’s a no go.
I cannot believe you drove to FL from CT in one day. Maybe the FSD had something to do with it. Wow! The funniest part of this video was when you went to South of the Border. I remember seeing it when my family and I went to SC in 1970. I was 15 that year. I’m amazed South of the Border is still there! Glad you and Cathy got to FL safely. Keep on truckin’ with your Model Y! 😊😊😊
Been a Buc-ees fan for years. And I remember the first little gas station/convenience store in Lake Jackson. It was on the road to my favorite surfing beach and was my stop off for gas and sun tan lotion……40 years ago! 🏄♂️
I just finished 1500 miles from Texas to PA on 21 MY.
Another great Road Trip video, entertaining & informative as usual.🙂
Beautiful skies Florida.
You two are hilarious! Love your road trips.
My wife and I just completed a trip from Gainesville Florida to Dallas Texas this past weekend. I used FSD with no lane changes. I don't like when it changes lanes automatically as I feel like I have to be "on guard" all the time. I like to tell it what lane I want and when to change. Other than that, I love it! So easy. Also loved it in downtown Dallas as it was so hard for me to figure out where to go. The car did it really well. I'm starting to think of it as a safety backup to my driving. Its always watching everything and does not get tired or distracted. Feels reckless to drive with it off. Also, we only waited 20 minutes for all of the charging going out (eating, shopping, etc.). Coming back was a different story. Hit that rain storm all the way home. Did not want to get out of the car in the pouring rain so waited a LOT for charging. Also hit one station with 20% and all 12ish chargers were down. Yikes! Overall it was a great trip and cost us ZERO. Plus my Daughter got married and it was a great wedding. :)
You guys are great. I look forward to your videos. Thanks
41:00. I do road trips in AK on Enhanced Auto Pilot. There are long stretches where my MY LR will not acknowledge 65mph signs and only let me do 60mph max. Sometimes, it'll see a 40mph from a frontage road and slam the breaks. So, I have to use adaptive cruise in those areas.
smiles, just love the road trips, still smiling, beautiful morning, and i would of bought more snacks :)
Bucky Beaver was actually the mascot for Ipana toothpaste in the 1950's and 60's
FSD seems to only move out of the left lane on highway if it's on the average setting and a car is approaching your bumper, but I also would prefer for it to get out of the passing lane if it doesn't need to be there.
Yes, steering wheel vibration is new, great video guys!
Wow, so much driving on two lane roads. Sound like a dream! I usually am on six-lane highways, going between 20 and 50 miles per hour.
I just tried the latest fsd in my model y on local streets and it was very good. I am impressed at the progress they have made.
Ty sho for th content and takin good care of the puppy ❤️
Great video Dave!!
Love your videos ! I have a 2023 model Y long range (Blue named "Ty"), live in Westchester and am considering a road trip with my wife to Sarasota in January so watching all your East coast road trip videos is great. Watching you guys on a road trip anywhere is great ;-) Look forward to more great content on Out of Spec Dave !
@18:44 loved the Kyle shout out. Yes, it seems to be a foreign concept. You built up to it perfectly. I was worried at first you were going to let this golden opportunity pass by. Perhaps you will have a stronger influence than his viewers.
that lane change vibration/chime is a settings in auto pilot....you can change it.
In Gainesville on 39th avenue is a 250 without many using it. I live across the street from that Gainesville fl sc next to the whole foods
That one is crazy busy!!!
I tried FSD for a short time when it was free on my '24 Model Y long range. My concern was it might ignore road debris and drive over it. My anxiety about what FSD might do was enough that I turned it off and drove the vehicle myself. Less stressful. And thank goodness we have NO Buc-ee's in Oklahoma. Been to one in Ft Worth, never wish to go again.
Dave definitely needs supervision.
So far, highway driving is still the original autopilot stack, not the pure AI trained fsd yet. They may be merging it soon in a newer update such as 12.4. So fsd has not made any changes to highway driving.
If you were in England and drove continuously in the right lane (Equivalent to the left lane in the US as we drive on the left) you would soon get cars flashing you to move over. We can even get prosecuted if we are deemed to be "Middle lane hoggers"
I'd say that a great many of us were given the sobriquet "Bucky Beaver" when we were getting our permanent teeth.
Dave FSD i had with a subscripton was more like enhanced autopilot
Gainesville should have showed you Tesla upgrading those smaller V2 chargers should take priority over building new sites right now.
Does your fsd crap out when it's dark and no lights? 2023 model Y does that to me.
have you tried all those J3400 chargepoint units in florida?
Love ur car Cathy
Beautiful
I just completed a trip from Leesburg VA to Sea Island, GA and back, with a short stopover in NC. I have never seen the value in road tripping any different than I did in my Rover. I stop every 150-200 miles to charge and recharge my body. It is cool for RUclips effect, but in real life it doesn’t do the body any justice to try and drive through with very short breaks or by trying to push through without proper rest. Safety is paramount and proper rest, nutrition and getting out and getting physical movement. I enjoyed FSD when it worked. I also recommend scheduling a mobile detainer to meet you at a longerxstop to get the bugs and debris off the car while in route.
You can just carry a spray with waterless wash spray (equivalents to Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine) and a soft microfiber cloth to do your own bug patrol. Bonus if you have PPF on the front of your car. I do this + carry a winshield scrubber and it works perfectly.
@@TheBowerbird I like to support small businesses that are usually run by people really trying to create something. I would rather spend my time getting un a walk, etc as movement is important. I give a person some business, I try and be healthy. It’s a win-win for my personal model.
@@binjones That is absurd. It takes literally 30 seconds to clean the front of the car + windshield. But go for it.
@@binjones it will not help much. Eat your hot dog and grab some Windex. Clean your car will do some good for you.
@@MrMcgooOG you miss the point. I as a small business owner like to support other small business owners. Don’t eat processed food. So I would rather spend money and help someone else out.
Hey Dave was that first segment SC in Ocala. Looks so familiar. I stopped there last year when driving to my new home from Connecticut to North Port Florida
The Ocala SC is at a WaWa. 8 stall V2s. There’s a 2nd location at Heath Brook mall, same configuration.
Supposedly they are building a Buckees in the Ocala area, said it will the largest one yet. Hope it will have Tesla SCs!
Dave you’ve got to get on to your condo association board, do it for a year to get your charger. It’s going to take 10 years if you leave it to them 😂
I will never be on the board. Zero interest…
I just spent $17,500 to Run cables from my Condo Electric Panel Through my 3 rd Floor End Unit Condo through the ceiling out the guest bathroom out the Building down the building under ground under pavement and grass to our Owned Parking Space. In Florida SIGNED LEGISLATION END IF 2021 IF THE CONDO OWNER PAYS FOR THE INSTALLATION AND PERMITS NO HOA IS ALLOWED TO DENY. YES expensive but I own 3 EV and I am a VW/AUDI Retired Representative 37 Years. I am not going back.
@@dconner9 I wouldn’t want to either, but if it meant getting a charger out of it, maybe
I hope Buc-ee's adds windshield washers to all their locations.
What is that pillow that Kathy is using?
So Dave, what is the verdict? Will you have FSD in all your Tesla's from now on? It seems like it's worth $99 a month if it only prevents one accident or even a minor mishap.
Lost it at the I was wrong song! 🤣
What are your thoughts on if you had to do the same trip towing a boat or caravan? Specifically whether you’d have to unhitch to charge?
Dave and Kathy, Governor Desantis has made staying in the left lane illegal except to pass or emergency vehicles in the right lane. Didn't know if you were both aware of that new law. Thanks for the great travel videos and your testing of FSD. ⚡.
Someone should tell that to FSD
Hi Dave, I’m not sure you took the time to go over the configuration of FSD before using it. There are a lot of features that allow you to customize your experience and then you you better understand why some things happen. I recommend you turn on all the automated options without need for confirmation and also go into the summon options and turn all those ones on. Then you’ll get the full FSD experience. Enjoy 😉
"so sad, and weird!" - OOS Kathy
I don't like my car sitting in the left lane either, but I have seen it move right when a car comes up from behind. Not every time though.
Agree. When a car approaches from behind, it moves right. The once the car passes, it moves left again. Not ideal
Dave please have th OOS Vinfast company car u own steering check out
23:55 Dave , no need to brag, you already married the girl. 😜
Happy Mother’s Day Kathy and Dave. We are building a Buc-ees in Alamance county NC near Mebane off of 85-40. Just cannot wait to experience this place. I have past a couple of them on the interstate just too packed to stop at that time. The irony I have been to Lake Jackson TX in the late 1990’s has I had a friend that lived in Clute for a couple years and that is where the first store opened in 1982.
“That looks cool, this looks cool, that’s pretty awesome ….” here is a hot (and obvious) tip ….. SHOW US WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING AT ;)
@ 9 : 40 Dave da boss said “ not goin to Pedro” -selective listening prevails 35 yrs??
Would you consider leaving car in camp mode and let dog sleep in car? With hotel permission of course.
In NC Out of spec got left hook out of no where rite after “Call me Master” and woke up in Georgia. Happy Mother’s Day!!
Its a bad idea to allow data to 3rd parties as they send it to insurance companies & your rates will increase. GM has OnStar & they are sharing your vehicle info to insurance companies. Many owners are now disconnecting & pulling the module out of the vehicle. If you not subscribe to OnStar insurance companies can still get the info so best to remove it.
On a 1350 mile road trip, Camry Hybrid would need *less* *than* *15* *minutes* at the gas station. Amazing range.
@@ArbitraryFilmings Wow, so much negativity and hostility. You must feel threatened by the superb Camry Hybrid, which puts Model 3 and Model Y to shame.
Camry has *so* *many* advantages.
@@ArbitraryFilmings Wow, so much negativity. You must feel threatened by the superb Camry Hybrid? Camry has so many advantages.
In 2023, Camry outsold the Model 3.
Correction, if FSD is really THINKING, it wouldn't have let you go to Fort Pedro!
But-res in Mississippi I heard
BUC-EES
FSD version 12 is not computer code that is instructed to stay in the left-hand lane or not. It is trained through AI watching videos of how people drive and copying that.
True but if Dave had taken the time to configure FSD in the Autopilot menu he would have had a better experience. If you allow auto lane change without confirmation, the car will immediately get out of the left lane if someone comes up behind you.
FSD v12.3 still relies on the v11 stack when on freeways. That’s why auto max speed works on city streets, but not on the interstate
Your stops on the long road trip are quite typical. I don’t know why Kyle is so much importance to 15 minutes stops when he rates cars. That might be fine for RUclips videos, but does not represent real life needs for breaks.
I understand what Kyle is getting on about but on my trips I usually stop for 20 minutes at least to stretch my legs and get food. Many rest stops it’s difficult to get out of there in less than 30 minutes especially if you’re NOT eating in the car.
Kyle’s priorities don’t represent 90% of EV drivers priorities. Only an idiot wants to pull into a charger with 2% battery.
It's more important that there are plenty of chargers along your route and they work. 99.9 percent of the public aren't cannonballing across the country or expecting the stop to be as fast as a gas car.
Meanwhile out of spec detail is cringing as Dave is using a not approved cleaning sponge. Now out of spec Kathy has scratches on her model Y 😢
You forgot to get your wife a shirt.
You are correct! Simply means we have to go back 😂
Your wife is right it would have crashed into the divider.
Left lane is safer to me. The pavement is better quality as it hasn't been destroyed to the same level as the middle and right lanes, with the right lane typically being almost undriveable--except for tractor trailers with air ride:)! You avoid people getting off and on the highway, which requires you to either slow down below the speed limit or change lanes. And changing lanes always increases the chance of an accident. That said, once you get to the upper limit of what I will call the speed limit buffer say 5 -10 over in order to maintain the flow of traffic, if someone comes up behind you going 20 over then I will move over, unless the middle and right lanes are wide open. If they are open I figure well you are already going faster than the general traffic so already and outlier, so you might as well pass me on the right and let me maintain my lane of travel. Of course those that are going say 85-90 will disagree, but that is their right. But they can't say to me you need to obey the letter of the law and move over for my vehicle which is not obeying the letter of the law. Has zero traction with me.
Anybody that makes a RUclips video /reviews about teslas and never bothers to mention they don’t come with spare tire and Jack should be arrested.
yikes
