CDJR had to get a more efficient yet stronger powerplant into its new product line or the government regs would reap havoc on its profit margins. Ford made the same decision with its E-B V6 and now it can afford to continue manufacturing a V8 muscle car. It'll all come.down to a ratio of I-6 to V8 production. But this change needed to be the focus for NOW.
The Ford 5.0 & 5.2 are not the same at all. I know it’s misleading because the displacement is really similar, but the 5.2 has a flat plane crank that revs to like 8,000+.
Yeah if they got that engine they should not waist the years and just put it out. I’m glad I got my TRX before that V6 embarrassment has been put in it.

I totally agree dodge getting bot having the v8 that's gonna push buyer's attention to gm and Ford! They will lose money and also ram truck buyers will switch to diesel.
4 valve hemis have been done before, albeit not on v8s. the busso v6 had 4 valves on later variants and had hemi heads on it. there's a few more engines that were 4 valve and had hemi heads but they were mostly two valve. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemispherical_combustion_chamber might not be the most reliable but you can at least use this for the start of your research
Overhead cam engines are a disaster! More parts to fail, more parts to replace. I work on this junk every day, and there is no way I would buy anything without a pushrod engine. GM with the LS based engine and the Dodge Hemi have proven you can have performance, fuel economy and meet emission standards with pushrods. Under normal circumstances, they are bullet proof. Let's see your multi-cam POS go 100,000 miles without a timing chain, guide, tensioner, phaser or intake and exhaust actuator solenoid failure. Don't forget many manufacturers drive their water pumps off the timing chain. Beautiful engineering design...
Any engine can fail. Just who builds it. My brother has a 05 Durango. He rebuilt the engine at 150k. Now he has a bad lifter. I have a 4.7 ohc 2003 Durango. 150k miles. Runs like new. Replaced the lifters and rockers just to keep it up to date. Plus all I had to do was remove valve covers. I prefer ohc. Because as long as you keep up on 100k maintenance. They can keep going. I had a 240sx. 250k miles. DOHC. Always ran 100% a little slack timing chain but still ran great. But again. It goes down to who built the car. Inline hurricane is a DOHC turbo. As long as it's built good. Just like other inline engines. Should be good for the long haul.
Rare occurrences... I've been an ASE tech for forty years. I will do 100 Ford, GM, Mopar ohc timing chain and related component replacements to every LS lifter replacement, and the Hemi valve seat jobs are even rarer in my area. I'll give the Japs credit, theirs rarely fail.
@@shaneOlive Dodge already has that experience with the 2.2/2.5 Direct Connection sold parts that upped the power to 400hp. The intake and a intercooler was all that was needed for the base 300hp. The super 60 package. I built my shelby charger with it. I won a LOTTA money with that car and it sounded nothing like a Honda....😂
You sound like a Ford guy. "mustang is sold out" Stelantis should so what Ford does and make a modular V8 blah blah. Anyway, I own a 18 manual RT+ Challenger and I love it. And NO ONE is looking for gas mileage when they buy a muscle car and Dodge is not going to put their 5.2 in a Challenger because they made that mistake in the 80s when emissions requirements got tighter and it was not good. Everything you are saying is speculation which is pretty frustrating really. If you get any actual news please let us know. P.S. no one wants an electric muscle car that has a recording of an engine. It may look cool and come with an exploding battery that takes a lot of time to charge but I don't think it is going to be too successful.
I’m confused dodge is getting rid of the v8 so your saying you’d rather them not come back with a v8 then it be a little smaller? They aren’t coming back with the same engines it’s not gonna work they will need to do exactly what ford is doing with a mix of ev and ice vehicles to survive
Ford quick producing EVs two weeks ago. So did GM and Stelantis. They are sitting on the lot unsold. The imense problems with EVs have become evident. 1 Insufficient infastructure makes traveling ridiculous. When you find a charging station many of them don't work. Most are not "super chargers" and you have to stop for hours, sometimes waiting behind another person. 2. The cars catch fire and / or explode 3. They are less reliable than internal combustion cars. 3. They are more expensive to buy, and to maintain. Dodge is coming out with a smaller Hemi and a gas 6 cylinder and has abondoned their plan to have all EV Challengers and Chargers. The smaller V8 will still be great. They will also continue the Hellcat. So, EV is a problem and will continue to be a problem and the manufacturers have made changes for that reason. @@Daniel73865
@@JamesCAsphalt8 where are you getting your sources? Ford cut production of EVs more then half because they over estimated the amount of people to buy them but still the ev gives them the emission credits to run a v8 platform. If dodge would’ve came out with a ev then that would’ve helped them against emission penalties. I don’t care if the ev is good or not I’m not buying one so it doesn’t matter but it will help them keep v8s
I have worked in the automotive industry for 40 years. Ford has ceased production of all EVs. Period. They want to sell what is one the ground and right now it is not selling. The lightening is a disaster and so is the EV mustang SUV. They are in the shop constantly. No one is buying electric vehicles much right now. That is why GM also stopped production of EVs. How in the world did you make a dohc hemi V8 .The designs of a OHV V8 and a dohc V8 are different the dohc V8 usually is wider and bigger in it's dimensions The OHV design is more compact. The ford 5.0 looks bigger than a Chevrolet new L t 1 even though the Corvette motor is more displacement and cubic inches..The heads are way taller and different.A dohc modular motor like ford and Chevrolet make ford has a 5.0 liter Chevrolet has a 5.5 liter.I could see a 5.7 liter dohc V8 but not with a hemi head on it.The heads have to fit under the hood Two cam shafts are on the top of the heads.Maybe put bigger chambers in the heads so you could call it a hemi but in reality it's still not going to be like a OHV big hemi head like the 5.7,6.2 or 6.4 liter engines.I hope dodge does do it and make a modular 5.7 liter V8.I don't like electric lawnmower EV cars and other vehicles they are boring impractical and dangerous if they catch on fire.Dodge does need a V8.Chevrolet needs to bring back the Camaro too but give it better visibility offer a great four cylinder turbo,V6,V8 maybe a version of the 5.5 liter dohc V8 engine and for the boring car buyer a EV version. There aren't enough charging stations around cities. The batteries cost too much to replace. They make no sound. You can't charge them if you live in a apartment or townhouse
Bro just buy a crate engine, not everyone can afford a crate engine but as car prices the way they are today not everybody can afford a new car either, Dodge even offers a shell you can buy, I don’t think there is a backup plan at all if sales plummet because unfortunately as it pains me to say this as a Dodge fan myself the sales will take a hit at first but trust me their is a whole market out their that they can tap into, trust me their are a lot more people out their wanting inline 6 and 4 cylinders than big V8s people forget what happened to Dodge in the 70s and 80s when they were pumping out dirt no big blocks at all just small engines, big V8s are mostly an American thing and since they are not American owned anymore the market they are targeting will more than make up for the couple hundred Dodge fans that will leave, there is 16 years of the challenger out there with plenty of used models too go around, for crying out loud they have been releasing the same car every year since 2008 with little to no major changes except for the hellcat.
Im just at a loss as to why, when the Challenger just finally became the rhe top seller, it comes to an end. And why would Dodge jump on the EV bandwagon so early...2035 is still a decade away. I understand the platform is quite old. But if the sales are rising, why mess with it?? Dodge has always been different...a bit of a rebel. So I expected them to thumb their nose at EVs until time was up. Hopefully there's another plan being brewed in secret, because right now, as a lifelong Dodge guy, Im dissappointed...
Imagine Ford axng the Mustang or the F-150. Imagine Chevrolet axing the Corvette. Niether of them did that. They built alternatives not killing the halo cars. The Hornrt? Laughable.
Dodge should have ditched the 392 uears ago and focused on the 5.7 Hemi. The cars shed some weight with the 5.7, and with a redesign or updates, the 5.7 could push 550 hp easily. Meanwhile, if you want the bigboy, you still had the hellcats with updated engines. Done right, the 392 would have never been needed.

In my own opinion, I would rather have seen a different model for drag race cars such as the Demon, which could have been under a Plymouth name. By the way, I hope you're right about a backup plan. Thanks again for sharing your interesting view!
they should have a name for drag cars and a name for track cars (like the viper acr)
Yeah, Dodge does need a back up plan.. I agree with your comments,
Even ford knew not to eliminate the v8 from its lineup.
No. They both use the same block, same heads. There's two 5.2 engines. Flat plan crank gt350 and cross plan crank. Gt500.
not so fast, theres two 5.2s. the flatplane is the voodoo and the crossplane (and supercharged) is the crossplane
The 5.2 voodoo is derived from the coyote and surprise surprise the predator from the gt500 is a crossplane 5.2 derived coyote engine
Yeah if they got that engine they should not waist the years and just put it out. I’m glad I got my TRX before that V6 embarrassment has been put in it.
inline 6* but yea, the RHO isnt gonna sell very well (that's what they are calling the inline 6 TRX)
A hemi with vtech bro
Do it
With a supercharger. That should be the response to the greenies
The wife works for Stellantis and they made her sign multiple NDAs about what’s coming. I begged her for weeks on end and she refused. Finally I got her to break after two glasses of Merlot. So I know what’s coming and I love not sharing it with anyone. Hahaha
Sure you do
Sounds like the V8 will stay.
all u gotta say is yes or no lmao, will there be a v8?? what about a v10 or v12?
@@shannonandsheila1403 Sure I do what?
@@fadedsoul23 Sorry can’t say anything.
Why modular? Bigger, heavier, more expensive and more to break
Absolutely!
What I mean by modular I should be saying more universal basically one engine that can do it all.
@@shaneOlive That'll be the new Hurricane Inline 6 engine alright, it's already in plethora of Chrysler and Jeep applications so it'd technically fall under the whole "modular" motor principle
@@FemboyMotorworks i wanna see them make an inline 5 hurricane, then from there, smash 2 i4, i5, and i6 hurricanes together to make a TT v8, TT v10, and quad turbo v12. 4xe is planned for the i6 and it already works on the i4, so it shouldn't be hard to fit it to the i5 and then beef it up for the v8, v10, and v12. run these engines on cleaner fuels and the emissions will be low enough to potentially not even qualify for the gas guzzler tax. i know the corvette e ray doesn't qualify for the gas guzzler tax because it is a hybrid
How about just a 4 door Chrysler 300, instead
ShaneOlive friend keep up the great work 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😃😃💪💪💪👍👍👍
We the People want an affordable* Hemi V8 💯
New charger has a 550hp version of the hurricane as a option! No V8 due to emissions!
V8 hybrid electric technology to push over 30 mpg. I get 20mpg in my scat there has to be something they can do. New Dohc v8 hemi with a charging system and electric motor for coasting, reversing etc... thats how the germans got their uboats to the gulf of mexico.. i always said if i could prevent the computer from shutting off mds I could get over 25 mpg easy
exactly! we need hybrid v8s for more power and better mileage
If they don't put a hemi in the charger it will flop. They are seeing what's gojng on Ford cut production lightning Toyota Nissan are all cutting production of EVS
Won't need a HEMI, when electric is quicker, and you can FAKE the noise.
I can see this car getting smashed in a take over
RacerX indicated no such modern Hemi is coming.
Just gave a ton of sales to Ford. Stupid.
They laid off all their engineering staff. This is what we are going to get - Italian SUVs with wimpy, girly names.
Let's check the flipside if they can and power through software, they can take power through software, have fun running from cops😂
I totally agree dodge getting bot having the v8 that's gonna push buyer's attention to gm and Ford! They will lose money and also ram truck buyers will switch to diesel.
I don't know if you can make a 4 valve hemi. The valves are huge so the chamber would be massive.
Chrysler had developed a 4 valve 426 HEMI back in the late 1960s. It was intended to be used in Nascar, but new rules forbade its use.
@@triangleofdeath6246 I’ve heard of that briefly, that’s also why I said not on v8s, since that never went into production sadly
@@triangleofdeath6246 Engine code for the 4-valve dohc hemi in the mid 60s: A925
Man I cant afford their high prices
141k miles 6th gen gti, and the accessory belt runs the water pump.
That's not true. Plenty of ohc engines that can go the distance. Plenty of pushrods that fail. Bent rods, lifter failure. The famous hemi valve drop.
@@shaneOlive
Dodge already has that experience with the 2.2/2.5
Direct Connection sold parts that upped the power to 400hp.
The intake and a intercooler was all that was needed for the base 300hp.
The super 60 package. I built my shelby charger with it.
I won a LOTTA money with that car and it sounded nothing like a Honda....😂
Has anyone else heard that Fords engine’s in some of their high powered engines Blow 💥Up🔥? That’s what I heard.
Why did dodge merge ?
If they have to have a backup plan for the shitshow that's about to commence next month, and after that, you know they're screwed, lol.
I own Ford and GM stock. Believe me when I tell you, you should not be speaking about something you obviously haven't researched.@@Daniel73865
If you buy one, you will regret it.@@Daniel73865
Just think about all the thefts and how the Hemi engine is so saught after a well as the cars. They cutting their losses i don't blame them. pretty soon lawsuits will follow Dodge and they will put themselves out of business from hemorraging money so often
Dem brogies luv dem Mopars makes me despise them
okay but inline 6 sound good and it make good power look at engines like the 2JZ or the barra or BMW's Inline 6. i think a Straight 6 Muscle car sounds sick! it sounds like it'd be a Ford Falcon XR6 styled of car something i've wished america would make for a while
Not saying the inline is a bad choice. But muscle cars have V8s and sound and feel completely different.
@@shaneOliveTrue for back in the day, not so much these days as when a 6 can smoke 'em.

Son can you say HEMI?
All the hemi are staying
168 mph top speed, but a 2008 srt does 174...Nice limiters there guys. Ever since Stellantis took over DodgeJjeep all their engines are trash. The original 5.7 lasts longer than the new VVT/MDS engines. Hell, I think their old 426 does!
I think alot of this is political depending on what side wins if the one side wins electric will get a hell of a push if the other side wins ice motors will get a push just my opinion
Well St5illantis has managed to buy all the European Junk car brands, Don't take a genius to see where this is headed. A little Fiat Peuguot, throw in some Alpha Romero, Aluminum Surfaced hardened motor , tells me it's a throw away if it breaks.
16y.o. body style WTF?
Im just at a loss as to why, when the Challenger just finally became the rhe top seller, it comes to an end. And why would Dodge jump on the EV bandwagon so early...2035 is still a decade away. I understand the platform is quite old. But if the sales are rising, why mess with it?? Dodge has always been different...a bit of a rebel. So I expected them to thumb their nose at EVs until time was up. Hopefully there's another plan being brewed in secret, because right now, as a lifelong Dodge guy, Im dissappointed...
Dude, you don't know 💩!
The EV version will kill the brand, it is sad many buyers shall flock to Phord.
Imagine Ford axng the Mustang or the F-150. Imagine Chevrolet axing the Corvette. Niether of them did that. They built alternatives not killing the halo cars. The Hornrt? Laughable.
its might* btw
I put it that way on purpose. Like bite . Nite you. Mite. Get it lol
So far you've said fird this and Ford that. Get some concrete info. Screw Ford.
If Dodge goes EV they will lose
I heard from Mopar that the engine would be like the Eco Boost! A 6 cylinder Twin turbo! That could be the Hellcat Return!
Hey ShaneO when using a cover to do a Dodge story please use the right engine, using any other engine than a Chrysler is Blasphemous

This guy is absolutely lost. The 5.0 and 5.2 have as much in common as the viper engine and the hemi. He's just blabbing along filling time in a video. Pretty much none of the "info" is correct, and is just uninformed speculation. I just hate that now this trash is in my algorithm.
Once we have another president u will then see a shift in the Tide with this craziness in the auto industry. I wont go deeper than that but anyone with a drop of common sense knows what needs to happen.MAGA
Never put a 5.7 in a Charger or Challenger again. We want 6.4 392's!
there is no new V8. no matter what. there will never be a business case for a new v8. thats an easy one to predict.
This is how you know you can’t listen to everyone. The 5.0 and the 5.2 are 2 different engines completely. Stop making videos of you don’t know what you’re talking about
