Hi! I would recommend moving the antennas on the hood area towards the top of the vehicle. This is both for range and radiating purposes. Shielding of the vehicle might affect the current antenna location as compared to a roof-mounted one.
I have actually never had a problem with either of the antennas with range. Infact, both antennas have gone about 300 miles with range in the past while on the hood. I do appreciate the comment though!
Looks like a cool build. However if I did this, I would've used Police Interceptor Utility as the base vehicle. Column shifter so its out of the way of things, center console delete, you can put your equipment there. It's more basic in the inside along with heavy duty cloth seats. Personally I wouldn't rock a regular Explorer. Police Interceptor Utility also has a better tune than the Explorer does. Also has a function called "Police Pursuit Mode", could be useful to you. It'll keep the engine at high RPMs to give you rapid acceleration. This is an automatic driving enhancement, no input needed by the driver, it activates when you start driving the car hard (hard braking, harsh turns, rapid acceleration). It also has a beefed up suspension system and it can handle more aggressive maneuvers that your Explorer probably can't do. It also has bigger brakes. The vehicle also has a rated 75 MPH rear impact protection. Other things is it has a third row delete as well, giving you more space and a full size spare tire.
Thanks for the comment! This vehicle started out as a regular XLT Explorer. I chose to turn it into the ultimate storm-chasing vehicle, while also having something comfortable, looked nice, was low on miles, and hadn't been abused. This vehicle fits all of those categories! Even though I have purchased a newer vehicle since, I still use it for offroading, outdoor adventures, and storm chasing nowadays. When I purchased the vehicle in 2020, it had less than 130k miles. Now It has 300k miles and is going strong with the original engine and transmission.
@@SconnieKayaker sounds awesome! How many water pumps are you on if you have the V6 engine? I've got the 3.7L engine in my Police Interceptor, regular Explorers don't get them, they're slightly faster than the 3.5L
I'm an aspiring chaser, getting some now how in terms of gadgets and equipment is nice. What I really liked was the fact that we can be helpful after the storm. Personally, I couldn't chase knowingly leaving without at least trying to help when it's needed. So the fact that you are certified let's me know that I can do it too. There's a literal ton of information to dig through when someone actually wants to chase. The last thing you wanna be worried about is your gadgets. Considering there are so many more important things that require attention. I suppose what I'm saying is thanks for giving some highlights on what all I'll need to some degree. Granted nobody wants to he told "yeah, your first camera and lenses are probably going to run near $1000 minimum"
Thank you so much for your comment! Just an FYI, you do NOT need to start with a 1,000 camera! In 2015, when I began, I used a cellphone to shoot videos and take photos. I then upgraded to a Canon Vixia R700 and 800. I only recently purchased the Canon G50 in October because I love filmmaking, thought it'd be a great tool for chasing, and I always wanted a Canon G series Camcorder, and boy was I right on both ends!
Ford explorers
are so cool. Capable of literally everything! Thats why I love em.
I love them as well!!
This Explorer is now at 300k miles and still going strong with the original engine and transmission!

@@SconnieKayaker you have not gone 300 miles from those antennas. You were most likely talking on a link repeater network and didn't realize it.

Great Video....Starting to Chase in 2022...love to see a list of EQUIPT and links in INFORMATION
can you do a Electronic List..????
Just now seeing this! Yes I can certainly do that.
What a beautiful beast of a vehicle!
Definitely fits my needs so much better than my old F-250!
@@SconnieKayaker I do recommend you getting a cover for your tire on the roof, it will keep your tire from rotting.
Would highly recommend BFG all terrains over those as they last longer and have much more traction
The Wildpeak tires were terrible. I went back to NITTO Terra Grapplers and they have held up great.
Where did you get the mounts for the ditch lights??
@Kebostreams I purchased them many years ago on Amazon. They're just universal hood mounts for offload lights. Have no complaints after 4 years.
Nice setup man! Also I enjoyed the choice of background music. May I ask who it was? Gunship? Here's to a great season on the plains!
Royalty free music found on Epidemic Sound. I honestly cannot remember who the two artists were.
good job friend
Thank you!
How do you make money if you wanted to become a storm chaser? Is it strictly a hobby or is there actually a way to make money?
Very seldom do people make money from chasing storms. Chasing is pretty much a hobby for everyone.
