For those who do not know, they also tested one of the dominators and the TIV on mythbusters years ago. They held up, but forgot to latch the door.
I think it was the first dominator (red shoe) vs tiv 2, Dominator did get pushed down the grass at 300mph but didnt flip. tiv2 forgot to latch one of the doors and it blew open
Dominator 1 didn’t have the spikes, so it was pushed back, skidding flat to the ground. The risk was in if it would flip up.
I remember that. Reed was so embarrassed!
They successfully sat through a gnarly F3 tornado, it hit them dead on.
Sean Casey is the original. the tiv was created for filming a tornado in imax.Reed probably is the best hunter, but I can't stand him
I flew reed to Rochester the night the Buffalo snow storm was starting. All buffalo flights were cancelled. Reed got off the plane and rented a car and immediately drove to buffalo live-streaming all night lol.
That stream was legendary. The streets of Buffalo looked like an apocalypse.

They make ground anchors for off road vehicles that can take a lot of pull before breaking loose but getting them firmly planted in the earth is no easy feat. Some sort of explosive deployed ground anchors might be feasible but they’d likely be pretty dangerous to use, especially on a harder or rocky surface. It’d be better than getting tossed around in a tornado though. 🌬
Doesn’t matter if they did. They sell asphalt mix in bags at the local hardware store to repair potholes.
Man Reed is one of those people I wish had the biggest success and to have a tornado show with 20 seasons lol his streams are great and he does a good job chasing, getting footage, and letting viewers know where the danger is and when.
And the best part is that he doesn't conduct himself as a holier than thou PhD holding scientist working in the field ... he's just Reed. He's just a guy with a passion for weather and it shows though his work.
Reed is better off with no show on cable tv. He makes way more money with his personally produced media. Just watch the 100s of thousands of dollars worth of Superchats and subscriptions/memberships he gets on a single stormchasing outing. He's making a ton of money.
brian said on stream that they were thinken about that, but they want it to be big so they would raise a fund so they can use all the best equipment to hunt tornado's and capture it in even higher quality and angles. He said that in last stream so about 2 days ago

4:30 - literally the only reason this car had any issue is because it wasn't in park and the hood wasn't latched.
Wind speed 57mph and the hood is shaking to come open? Lol, cars regularly drive 60+mph with no issue.

Vuke Vinch if there is no wind at all and you are travelling at 60mph the force of the car hitting the wind is 60mph, if the wind is coming towards you it’ll be more or if it’s going in the same direction of you it’ll be less

@@marvindebot3264 I mean, knowing Elon, he probably just wanted to show off his cool new toy to Jay Leno. I think he'd do that even without the cameras. The publicity is just a nice added rationale for spending his time that way.
If I had to guess, I'd say he'd probably prefer the youtube version to the mainstream TV version as well, but I don't think he cares very much about where it got posted.
Actually, Sean Casey built the first vehicle for surviving tornado encounters. He called it the TIV...Tornado Intercept Vehicle, he built it for capturing IMAX footage for his movie ‘Tornado Alley’. I admire Reed immensely, but Sean gets the credit for the genesis of the Dominator.
Sean doesn't get credit for anything- the only similarities between the vehicles are the fact that they're aerodynamically armored and engineered to be resistant against Tornadic-winds- how they accomplish said design and how they function is completely different.
well, Sean was the first one to use the hydraulic spikes, and he did build the first TIV before the dominator
I am currently watching Storm Chasers on Prime. While I'm sure Reed has had the ambition to intercept and I respect him for what he does. It's clear he copied TIV and TIV II with the design of all three Dominator designs. I giggle every time Sean calls DOM 1 " THE RED SHOE " lol...
@@c.t.1699 C.T, you don't understand why Sean deserves credit. Sean deserves credit because he created the idea of an armored vehicle, and inspired many to follow in his footsteps. They may be for different purposes, but Sean had laid the foundation for many chasers, and he did it because he wanted to do it.

correction, Sum Dum Gai, he did not say "Pa". what Reed said then was "Paul", referring to Paul Samaras, from the TWISTEX storm chasing team. him, his dad Tim Samaras, and another chaser, all died in the EL RENO tornado of 2013.

What an amazing career this man made for himself. He just gets to be a little boy forever playing with his toys and loving what he's doing. I'm so jealous. He gets to tinker, improve meteorology and get heavy adrenaline rushes.

The Russians have these. They are pairs of jet engines mounted on modified battle tank hulls. They use them to fight forrest fires or other special situations
It would take about a hundred thousand of those engines.

We went storm chasing in April. started watching all of Reed's old videos after. Love this stuff haha

Almost ALMOST looks more legit then TIV.... but TIV will always have a special place in my heart because they were crazy enough to start the trend.... build a mobile bunker, mount a imax camera in it. get hit by a tornado.

He used Dominator 3 last night 5/12/2023 to get hit by one of the hardest tornadoes he’s ever been in near Spalding, Nebraska.
This was such a classic episode. I'd love to drive this beast.
Dominator 3 does not have spikes, Dr Reed was still in the process of installing those but it never was finished before being decommissioned. Dr Reed went broke, and now has a little Subaru (Dominator 4) that's not even armored. He just lost it in Hurricane Ian. So he went for broke on these projects, and now he is totally broke. Hopefully somebody helps him, The only vehicle at the moment that has spikes that work is the TIV.
Wow! I wondered as to why he was driving rentals!...Obviously, he does not want to talk about his financial problems.

Yeah he ain't joke, using D3 isn't worth it if he isn't using a team, he fixed his Subaru, d1-2 is being planned to be restored. If he was broke, he probably would have sold one of the dominators and not having them stored

I do some storm spotting once in a while in Northeastern Oklahoma. I was following a supercell and saw one of those things at a traffic light in a small town in along major highway. It's like nothing you've ever seen before. It made me stop and think, do I really want to keep following this storm?

Good to see Reed Timmer is still chasing tornadoes. I forgot all about him since his tv show ended in 2011. Also nice to hear his vehicles are still called "Dominator" and bad storms that are experienced inside the Dominator are "intense". Lol.

But it isn’t “The” Dominator it’s just one of them 😂 I remember watching storm chasers as a kid it was amazing and helped me to know the warning signs of possible tornadoes which I have used before.
