- Manual gearbox scored similar 6 l / 100 km consumption minimum, but whereas the DSG went a little higher in the mix with more accelerations, MHD stayed a little lower, so seems to save you a little fuel - Lane assist indeed also induced some false-positives when you kept the steering wheel very straight on very straight motorways. Then the car thought you wouldnt have your hands on the steering wheel anymore. Pretty annoying. Also when using serpentine roads, it is more useful to de-activate the feature. But that's easy: Right side of the steering wheel, there is a hotkey, press it, and directly access the assistance systems in the virtual cockpit. It is reseted after every ignition though. - The rattling sounds we at first noticed at slow speeds were, as we could clear out later, induced by the car cleaning crew who used an anti-fat detergent on the window frames, causing the rubber to dry out and rub against the windows. They needed to be re-greased ;-) We therefore editing this criticism out of the conclusion now since it was gone after the service was done.
I really like that he involved the cameraman. It is always helpful to hear the passenger's opinion in a review, plus the guy deserves to be name-dropped for his work.

@@darkpixel_1 Hi, 1.5 150ps and DSG is a poor combo, very hesitant when pulling away from junction or roundabout, dangerously slow to engage the clutch. Always changes to the next gear at 1500rpm or less, you NEVER get any power from the engine, press the accel harder in 3rd doing 20kph and it changes to 4th at 1200rpm, then the little power you had is now worse, press the accel nearly all the way down, then it jumps down 2 gears and screams it's head off! It was my wifes car, she drove it in sport mode as it then drove "normal", she would always take my Focus 120ps Diesel auto instead of the Kamiq as you press the accel and the car actually goes. What else...the air con controls in the touch screen, the worst piece of software programming in the history of the earth! The random emergency brakes when the barrier on the corner is detected by the sensor. The most unsupportive seats I've every had, no side support, like sitting on a park bench. The temperature control nob, try turning it fast, the temp doesn't change, it skips as the nob is so cheap, if you want full heat, you need to turn it slowly slowly slowly. When you take your foot of the accel, will it coast/roll, will it stay in gear and engine brake? Who knows!!! It rolled one day, brakes the next day, completely random, end up riding the brakes constantly on a slight downhill, then on a flat road before a roundabout, take your foot off to coast, and it would engine brake! The delay in everything, pull the windscreen wiper spray, nothing, count a few seconds, then it sprays, put the mirror to fold position, nothing for a few seconds, then it folds. Try and rest your arms on the door arm rest, you can't, they are so far away from the driver, try the center arm rest, same thing. I think for the over 70's who only drive on a Sunday, it would be a good car if bought cheap. I have more...but said enough.

What a great presentation Thomas and the Kamiq will definitely be our next car... we're running 2 Skodas right now, but after the 3 month experience of lockdown etc, my wife and I realise that we only need one car, so it'll be a trade-in job soon for a Kamiq. With the greatest of respect, I have to pull you up on your driving sir, there are, or could be, moments when you possibly will have no control on the steering...It actually hurts me to see you crossing your arms and hands when negotiating bends and corners. I passed my test 62 years ago and was taught the 'ten to two' or 'quarter to three' position for holding the wheel and to 'pass the steering wheel' from hand to hand when turning..... It's not too late to change this habit Thomas, it might save us both if I happen to be coming round the bend from the opposite direction. Once again thanks for this great video crit.
I have a Skoda Octavia 1.4 SEL Seven Speed Automatic, and it drives really nice, even at low speed round town. It is the best automatic I have drove. Very nice car. England
A nice little car in the Golf class (really a Polo). I think the front design is very similar to the Citroën Cactus that came on the market as early as 2014. The concept is also not dissimilar, although the Cactus is a more exciting and interesting car (more querqs and features). What speaks for Skoda Kamiq, however, is VAG's traditional build quality and durability. As always a solid review on your part Thomas.
@@mart_en It does not belong to the Polo class in terms of market, but purely technically it is built on MQB A0 which it shares with Polo VI and Seat Arona, among others.

A nice thing to know about the ACC is that it addapts to the driving mode. So in sport it will keep less distance to the car infront and accelerate faster. Same thing for normal mode vs ecomode.
@Elco de Bruijn - Normally 'the distance' to the car in front is adjusted by the driver using one of the cruise control buttons - you are actually adjusting the 'time difference' to the car in front, so that the distance will automatically increase at higher speeds! I didn't know that the drive mode changed 'the distance' - I must check that out next time I drive my friend's Golf R DSG fitted with DCC! Yes, the drive mode can change the throttle response of the ACC - in Comfort it accelerates smoothly, in Sport it accelerates fast!

Hey Autogefühl - my German is terrible and Goggle could only tell me that your name means "car feeling." But that could mean a couple of things: how does the particular car feel when you drive it or what (inspirational) feeling do you get when you drive a particular car or what inspirational feeling do you have about cars in general. Can you help me out? I'm a fan and a subscriber! Tschüss, Cliff.
Hi, I watch a lot of your reviews, and they are obviously very professional and thorough, so I enjoy them very much. However, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism, if I may: 1 - I get the general impression that you focus a lot on performance / racing in your reviews, and perhaps not too much on comfort. You mention "price / performance ratio" but not the "price / comfort" or "price / convenience" ratio. While this is great for car enthusiasts who care about "driving fun", you may not reach audiences who think of a car as just a means of transportation from A to B. This is especially true for cars like this one - the Skoda Kamiq, which is not meant for sports / racing. Imagine that I'm just a soccer Dad / Mom. I don't care about the sportiness of the car. I just want to know if it is comfortable for me and my family and if it is reliable. 2 - I've noticed that you mention a lot of technical details like "MQB platform" and compare the car to its previous generations. While this is great for more technical audiences who are constantly following the auto industry, you are going to lose the other audiences who just went to Google and typed "Skoda Kamiq review" without knowing its history or technical specifications. I don't want to know about past generations or which platform / chassis the car uses. I only care about what that means to me as a user of the car. Even though I am an engineer myself, I don't really care about "MQB platform" ... but does that mean that my butt does not hurt on long drives ? Now THAT is important :) 3 - You provide a lot of facts, which can be great but can also be a bit overwhelming to the less technical viewers. It would be nice if you could add a simplified section about - "Who is this car really for ?" "Based on the materials used, is it going to last the customer 5 years or 10 years or 100,000 km ?" More practical questions. I'm sure that most of your followers are huge auto enthusiasts, and I'm sure that your content is perfect for them, but if you could also provide a more dummied down version that focuses a bit more on the other aspects of driving like comfort, convenience, practicality, rather than simply "sportiness" and "stiffness of the suspension" and "0 - 100 time" ... you would reach a much broader audience and get more subscribers :) Of course, if the car is a sports car like a Golf GTI, that would be different and you could focus on sportiness, but I don't think a Skoda Kamiq is really about sportiness :) That said, I love the fact that you not only review the cars but also drive them. It is important to show how the car drives. But just more simplified and focused on comfort would be more to my taste :) Thanks for reading !
Thomas, do you think lane assist false positives will remain as they are or will this be fixed? How were such mistakes dealt with in the past? When I tested Scala I got the false warning after 5 min of driving already and not even on the straight part of the highway. Seeing kamiq has the same problem is disheartening and keeping me from deciding to make the purchase in what otherwise seems to be a great deal.
This can only be fixed with a capacitive steering wheel like the Passat Facelift received. At all other VAG products this will cause problems when driving 100 % straight motorways
@@autogefuehl , so the steering wheels of all the newly produced cards will need to be swapped with the new fixed ones in order to make this fault go away? Auch! Wil this be done or will VAG just probably leave it as is and hope not too many customers get annoyed by it? To me such false warnings are a deal breaker really. Thank you for such a late in the day reply BTW - what a commitment!
Still in mind which car has the higher seating position and more space? Would be important to know for me as long as i cant compare them personally:-) thank you in advance thomas
from the rear car looks ok, quite good , but front end is pretty bad , main headlights are to small for a car of its size , and it looks kind of avkward , and its a shame because rest of the front styling is ok , daytime running lights are nicely blended together with the grill ... overall it is a good car , but that front end styling is not working for me ...
@Capitan Andy It's not about the size, it's about how it "bites" (that's what she said). 1.0 TSI is actually quite peppy and this car is actually pretty small. As a base engine it's actually pretty decent. @James SUV what size? It's one of the smallest and lightest crossovers on the market.
Once again a very nice and complete review!! Although it probaby it has a distribution BELT (😅) personally i think it is a strange car.. very little overhang at the back (Hyena, Bora??) there is nothing like it or to compete with it.. maybe the Cactus?? It is confusing me.... not a big fan but, i do think it is a very nice and complete car for the money👍🏻 CHEERS! =)
A similar specced kamiq and golf cost roughly same in turkey(style kamiq dsg-golf life dsg) I think kamiq should not cost as much as a peugeot 2008/vw golf,am i wrong?we bought it when it first released but it was reletaviley cheap compared to those cars.I personally am not a fan of the inrerior design, and the ride height could be higher, other than that we had no issue Oh and the water tank for wipers are defective,it’s top part just bumps out whenever i try to open it,i hate that.
P.S.: If the ventilation setting would be on a button ... instead in the menu ... this Kamiq would be perfect ! But ... even so ... it is in my top 3 ... reasonable priced city-SUVs. 😍
BrateTebra123 t.z. Streptomicin za muski rod Looks like it’s screwed right to the bumper. But you can use double sided tape. I used 3M automotive trim tape for my wife’s SUV and it has held on for 6 years and 80k miles now with no issues. But it can be removed quickly.
A nice car, as was to be expected. Unfortunately, when I checked the prices I felt tkaen for a fool. In Austria, the base price is roughly 2,000€ more than a Seat Arona, that's ok as I prefer the Skoda and it's also larger. BUT when I compare the middle modens (Ambition) with Germany, there is a hughe difference: It costs 1,000€ more here, has no full LED lights included, not even alloy wheels or electric windows in the rear! Corrida red also costs a third more than in Germany. If you adjust for the 1% VAT difference and the fact that there is a 5% NoVa tax in austria, there's still a markup of over 1.500€. And that's only the basic differences I have checked, I'm sure there are others. Why is Skoda Austria charging so much more than in Germany? I guess they're spoiled by their success here.
LED is standard, I asked twice on location. You can just upgrade the AFS (cornering light) and the indicators. So you get LED or LED + cornering light and indicators
Meh... The Karoq and the kodiaq are pretty good but this one?!? Not a break and not really a SUV...atrocious design... And the car reviewed must be some high end finition, imagine it in access Line or mid Line...OMG... Skoda... 🤔😣
It may be a decent car but ... if you want to have things like dual zone climate control, alloy wheels or cruise control (not to mention heated seats) you have to choose higher trims and combined with 1.0 TSI 115hp engine - this thing gets expensive. Is it a better buy than Ford Focus 1.0EB Titanium? Or Kia Ceed 1.4 Turbo in the mid trim? (or Ceed 1.0 in high trim) Not to mention Kia Sportage 1.6 GDI in mid-high trim with at least as good if not better equipment? I don't think so. It's also not really handsome. It looks like a boxy hatchback also the front end is just butt ugly.
Specs just out now in the UK. The cost is horrendous. Everything is options and it is £2k extra for DSG! If you want an SE with DSG specced to competitors equivalent model you are looking at and extra £5k making it a £26+k+ car in the UK. It will have to be good for that or heavily discounted by the brokers!
ANd after seeing that fuel consumption, Im not really impressed with these small engines... I have a passat 2.0 110kw/150hp with dsg box and still manages to get around 6 liters per 100km... So you are telling me that these small engine are getting same consumption...come on, why even use it then
@@Caymanec its diesel, 2012 year of production so its b7 passat, 2.0 diesel with 110kw of power, and it's average consumption, probably a bit higher in the city but still...

Great detail and research as always, team. Loved the driving part - great driving. Many thanks.
👌
Great review, Thomas! The in-built tow bar is an amazing feature. Will Skoda include it in all their cars? I recommend it. Cheers, Govind
Thanks! I think a lot of cars do have it
Nice lower cost effort. Can't believe we're talking 1L engines now. Thanks Thomas.
is this race blue or energy blue?
I would like to know as well! Race blue or energy blue???
He said "race blue'
thx ,i like it
New Kamiq Style 1.0l 115 vs used 2019 Qashqai 1.3 140 N-Connecta for the same price, ~20k euro, which one to pick?
Can you tell me which blue colour tone this is? The standard one or the one that costs extra? It looks very bright and contrasty, different than in other videos and images I've seen.
I think i mentioned the color, didnt I ?
@@autogefuehl Ah yes, so you did. Funny, the same colour but it looks so different. May be white balance, may be contrast, but it looks like 2 different colours, yet your colleague says it's the same.... ibb.co/6DLRXRj
Tomas can you compare Scala vs Kamiq?
Mmmmm, bring back the original Yeti with a few twists.
Thus skoda or the seat arona ? Which is better ?

Hey Autogefühl - my German is terrible and Goggle could only tell me that your name means "car feeling." But that could mean a couple of things: how does the particular car feel when you drive it or what (inspirational) feeling do you get when you drive a particular car or what inspirational feeling do you have about cars in general. Can you help me out? I'm a fan and a subscriber! Tschüss, Cliff.
great you are with us! The translation is correct :) And the concise interpretation is up to the viewer =)
Hi, I watch a lot of your reviews, and they are obviously very professional and thorough, so I enjoy them very much. However, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism, if I may:
1 - I get the general impression that you focus a lot on performance / racing in your reviews, and perhaps not too much on comfort.
Now THAT is important :)
3 - You provide a lot of facts, which can be great but can also be a bit overwhelming to the less technical viewers. It would be nice if you could add a simplified section about - "Who is this car really for ?" "Based on the materials used, is it going to last the customer 5 years or 10 years or 100,000 km ?" More practical questions.
I'm sure that most of your followers are huge auto enthusiasts, and I'm sure that your content is perfect for them, but if you could also provide a more dummied down version that focuses a bit more on the other aspects of driving like comfort, convenience, practicality, rather than simply "sportiness" and "stiffness of the suspension" and "0 - 100 time" ... you would reach a much broader audience and get more subscribers :)
Of course, if the car is a sports car like a Golf GTI, that would be different and you could focus on sportiness, but I don't think a Skoda Kamiq is really about sportiness :)
That said, I love the fact that you not only review the cars but also drive them. It is important to show how the car drives. But just more simplified and focused on comfort would be more to my taste :)
Thanks for reading !
Thanks for the feedback! Keep joining 😊
So no 360 surround camera on the Kamiq?
With the sport chassis but normal option, the car is even confortable ? :) There is a big difference between normal chassis ?
I did give some notes to that in the review I think ?
@@autogefuehl Sorry, I didn't seen the all video, you've amply answer at the question, thx !

@@dragospahontu Not yet unfortunately. Maybe later this year, if corona goes down, or maybe next year

Thank you for such a late in the day reply BTW - what a commitment!
would a full sus mtb fit in the back ?
Wonder which we’ll see next. The Kabooq, Kobuk or Kabiak.
I had a similar naming scheme for my World of Warcraft characters back in the day 😁
Kahoot, ofc
I wish Skoda would do a Tan half leatherette Alcantara interior instead of the cream / magnolia
Hi thomas
Would you prefere the kamiq or the subaru xv for drivers cabin space and seating height?
I guess look at the price :)
@@autogefuehl thank you for the answer...if price is secundary?
the Kamiq is a very very convincing car.
Still in mind which car has the higher seating position and more space? Would be important to know for me as long as i cant compare them personally:-) thank you in advance thomas
Should I go for the 1.5 TSI engine for this car or the 1L 115 hp will do? (I will get it with the DSG transmission)
1.5 is more rounded
from the rear car looks ok, quite good , but front end is pretty bad , main headlights are to small for a car of its size , and it looks kind of avkward , and its a shame because rest of the front styling is ok , daytime running lights are nicely blended together with the grill ... overall it is a good car , but that front end styling is not working for me ...
...great skoda Kamiq!!!....CNG version is the better version but ......1.0 engine is not too small for this car???
Far too small. An SUV this size needs 160hp minimum just to be safe on the road.
@Capitan Andy
It's not about the size, it's about how it "bites" (that's what she said). 1.0 TSI is actually quite peppy and this car is actually pretty small. As a base engine it's actually pretty decent.
@James
SUV what size? It's one of the smallest and lightest crossovers on the market.
Is this car big enough for a family of four? It seems big enough but at the same time it's somewhat small. What is your opinion?
get a Scala if you need more space
The new skoda comic 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Once again a very nice and complete review!! Although it probaby it has a distribution BELT (😅) personally i think it is a strange car.. very little overhang at the back (Hyena, Bora??) there is nothing like it or to compete with it.. maybe the Cactus??
It is confusing me.... not a big fan but, i do think it is a very nice and complete car for the money👍🏻 CHEERS! =)
cheers man!
A new Yeti please, Skoda
Looks really awesome! Still kinda curious on the engines... will the 1.0 tsi (85 kW) be enough, but the 1.5 tsi is like 1.5-2k more expensive...
Where are fog lights?
A similar specced kamiq and golf cost roughly same in turkey(style kamiq dsg-golf life dsg)
I think kamiq should not cost as much as a peugeot 2008/vw golf,am i wrong?we bought it when it first released but it was reletaviley cheap compared to those cars.I personally am not a fan of the inrerior design, and the ride height could be higher, other than that we had no issue
Oh and the water tank for wipers are defective,it’s top part just bumps out whenever i try to open it,i hate that.
it is cheap
Did you use wireless CarPlay for any length of time ? Was it reliable ? Did your phone get hot in the charge tray ? Thanks
Yes, it worked perfectly. Both with and without cable. All phones get hot in every wireless charging table
Autogefühl thanks approximately what was the longest time you used it for in one go ?
It’s getting so difficult to tell VW, Skoda and Seats apart these days. They all look the same!
I prefere it in blue, too. 👍 But with the 1,5 l engine + DSG. I don't trust 3 cylinders engines. At all. 😐
P.S.: If the ventilation setting would be on a button ... instead in the menu ... this Kamiq would be perfect ! But ... even so ... it is in my top 3 ... reasonable priced city-SUVs. 😍
Who of you answers the comments?
Thomas
Can someone tell me how are the licence plates hold without a frame? I am looking for a similar solution for my car
BrateTebra123 t.z. Streptomicin za muski rod Looks like it’s screwed right to the bumper. But you can use double sided tape. I used 3M automotive trim tape for my wife’s SUV and it has held on for 6 years and 80k miles now with no issues. But it can be removed quickly.
screwed indeed in this case here
@@autogefuehl thank you both !
The rear, especially in this colour, looks like a Volvo XC60
A nice car, as was to be expected.
Unfortunately, when I checked the prices I felt tkaen for a fool.
In Austria, the base price is roughly 2,000€ more than a Seat Arona, that's ok as I prefer the Skoda and it's also larger.
BUT when I compare the middle modens (Ambition) with Germany, there is a hughe difference:
It costs 1,000€ more here, has no full LED lights included, not even alloy wheels or electric windows in the rear!
Hm about LED, there should be LED standard?
@@autogefuehl Yes, it should be, but it isn't: ibb.co/R4SkZQ7
(That's for the Ambiente line, same for Style though.)
Hmm - the UK Skoda web page has not announced prices here yet!
LED is standard, I asked twice on location. You can just upgrade the AFS (cornering light) and the indicators. So you get LED or LED + cornering light and indicators
@@autogefuehl Great thanks. I'm headed to the dealer later today anyway, but good to know.

Meh...
The Karoq and the kodiaq are pretty good but this one?!?
Not a break and not really a SUV...atrocious design...
And the car reviewed must be some high end finition, imagine it in access Line or mid Line...OMG... Skoda... 🤔😣
jeremjerem i love Karoq, especially the Sportline!!
620km range while getting 9.0l/100km means it must have a large tank.
Wasnt all the time 9 l / 100 as I said in the review, that was just directly after the serpentine roads and only uphill
👍🏻
Wait, wait, wait... A 1 liter engine? Come on please, 2 liters at least...
Such small car does not need powerfull 2.0tsi
ANd after seeing that fuel consumption, Im not really impressed with these small engines... I have a passat 2.0 110kw/150hp with dsg box and still manages to get around 6 liters per 100km... So you are telling me that these small engine are getting same consumption...come on, why even use it then
