Hi Barry. Thank you for your comment. As a former salesman I know what is needing to be said to help viewers understand what is on the car. Help them with that buying decision.
Thanks for another informative and enjoyable review. I think the Kamiq is a big improvement on styling over the other Skodas. What would be of great interest to me is if you were able to get hold of reliability and servicing costs for these tested vehicles as they get older and this data comes in. That’s not easy, I know. The only place I’ve found so far for this is Honest John but you do have to dig to find it. For instance, I hold onto my vehicles for a long time and do as much research as I can before purchase. I bought a 3 year old Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.9 litre 3 door for a very reasonable price and it still looks and drives great. It had a recall early in its like for breaking front coil springs and the recall fix was to redesign the spring seats so the spring is contained in the event of a failure. The fix was so good that you don’t always know if/when a spring does break. The car has gone through four coils in its 16 year life with around 80k on the clock. Otherwise, it’s been very reliable and achieves a true average mpg of 52. Although I don’t want to sell my gut feeling is that I should start thinking about changing (hence watching your videos) and am thinking about a crossover or SUV. Apologies for rambling on a bit. Keep up the great work, I enjoy your no-nonsense reviews very much. PS I also live in MK and enjoy trying to guess where you are at various points in your reviews!
Hi Eric, thank you for your comment. The Kamiq is a huge step up from previous Skoda’s. The good news for Skoda’s is that from 2015 new Skoda’s have an online service history. So as long as the car is serviced at a main dealership the work carried out will be on record. It’s only when repair work is carried out elsewhere that you have to rely on paperwork.
Hi David, Great review. I test drove the Kamiq 1.5tsi DSG today and what a lovely motor. Very refined, classy interior, very comfy seats. I've always had VW's, but this was my first Skoda experience. I am so impressed, doesn't feel at all like a poor man's VW. In some ways it's better, high quality trim and great prices. Think I'm becoming a convert!
Hi Paul, thank you for your comment. As someone who has a soft spot for Skoda's it's great to see people fall for Skodas charms. I was surprised that the cabin actually felt more premium than the T-Cross (but without the flair). I know you'll make the right choice.

Hi there Shane. Thank you for the comment. They both compare quite similarly but would say the Karoq just edges it as it is the more “substantial” vehicle. The Karoq I had was the Sportline so came with larger alloys which did unsettle the ride compared to other trims.
Passed my test in August 2020, got a Skoda Monte Carlo Fabia MK3 currently. Ordered a Skoda Kamiq now, the 1 Litre Manual S E L, quite nervous since I've not driven a 'SUV' before, what should I expect. My current car is an estate.
In the old days you bought an old car for cash when you passed your test. I still think that way now. If your car is on finance, or the next one is going to be, and guessing PCP it just means you cant really afford the car. Debt is debt however you look at it. Nobody ever owns a PCP car because they cant afford the balloon payment at the end, so always trade in before then for yet another finance deal with pointless and expensive monthly payments, its like renting a car. Dont waste your money. Its never ending.
Another good review. But - I will take issue with you over your headlight comment. And it is only my opinion you understand. LED headlights should always be selected if affordable. Surely it is always safer to drive when you can see further? - Plus of course LED lights in theory last for the lifetime of the car, therefore you do not have the hassle of replacing an incandescent bulb, which can be a nightmare in a modern car.
Actually for kamiq standard high and low beam are LED only the front blinkers are bulbs. The upgrade ones come with dynamic led blinkers and cornering lights. I tested both and standard ones have a longer throw and upgrade ones have a bit wider but shorther beam. Not worth upgrade in my opinion. On Scala only low beam is led and high is h7 bulb so upgrade is worth it.
@@dorian9350 Good luck with replacing a H7 bulb (god bless Halfords), and of course multiply that by the number of times that that will have to be done during an average ownership.
The AC commrnt, the bumpy feel as vanity mirror as home button, did speak to me in my choice between this or Arons, am ordering full option 113 luxury versions to drive, but for long distances, being tall and a woman, I must make a good choice
Thanks for your comment. I'll be honest you won't go wrong with either. The Scala is more practical of the 2 but if you need to sit a little higher then the Kamiq will be better. I recommend driving both to make sure you pick the right car for you. If it was my money I would look at the Scala.
I’ve had a 1.5SEL DSG for 3 years now - in the same colour- and it’s a decent car let down by uncomfortable seats. It’s doesn’t have the mojo of my previous Yeti though.
I have a kamiq se 110 dsg after coming from a yeti , and its a good car , but i wish the drivers seat was higher and the front passenger seat had hight adjustment
Im looking at one of these to replace my fiesta,a toss up between one of these and a ford puma,I have seen used ones for £2000 to £3000 less than a puma with the same spec,im not sure which to go for,was that a 115 bhp version ? If so how did it drive?
Hi. Like you, I'm a 'Skoda freak'! I've driven and loved my Fabias for going on 10 years (I think!). Now I need something big enough to take a mobilty scooter and hoist for it. I doubt a Fabia will do it now ... Have you got any suggestions, or hints for me please? Loved the review btw! God bless.
Hi Christine. Sorry about the delay in responding. Is it a Fabia estate you have or hatchback? I'd recommend looking at the all-new Fabia which comes out later this year to see if a hoist can be fixed to it. I'd also recumbent the new Honda Jazz. The magic seats are great for storing large bulky items and the boot is a decent size. Hope this has been helpful.
I have a Kuga MkII titanium x sport lovely car but looking to downsize a bit. Slithering between Kamiq and Ateca and possibly a wild card in the Niro hybrid. Which if those would you suggest is best.
Hi Theo. Thanks for your comment. I’ll be honest you don’t sit too high in the Kamiq when compared to rivals. But it’s still enough to tell a difference if you suffer from mobility issues.
Thank you for the comment Patrick. Race Blue is definitely a sound choice for the Kamiq. Even seen one in the new "Titan Blue" and is a much better blue than the old denim blue. I will note that there is in fact a Rally Green Kamiq on my driveway!!
Can't believe the ford Puma beat this for the car of the year. First of all the puma already had a recall back in January and February for faulty airbags. Secondly the kamiq is much more prestigious and much more spacious especially for rear passengers.
Thank you very much for the comment. Having not driven the Puma yet I cannot give you my verdict on it. Yes, the Kamiq is an incredibly spacious car for rear passengers. It is a shame the boot isn't a bit bigger in its class but it is versatile.
