  • The new Skoda Kamiq looks every bit an SUV, however, the ride height is much more closer to a regular hatchback and consequently you end up sitting quite low. The Skoda Kamiq offers one of the most spacious cabins of all the compact crossovers, with space in the rear very impressive, even with a couple of adults in the front. There is a digital instrument cluster, a choice of 9.2, 6.5 and 8.0 inch touch screen displays with gesture control & wireless Apple CarPlay. Skoda’s new connect app even works with Amazon Echo!
As of 2021 all Skoda Kamiq models are now petrol-powered. There's a 95BHP 3 cylinder 1.0-litre engine and a more powerful 115BHP version if budget permits. This is very sprightly, especially for such a small engine, while a light clutch and gear change mean it’s an easy car to drive around town, but if you want a bit more power under your right foot then opt for the 4 cylinder 1.5litre 150BHP engine. Six speed manual or a very good DSG automatic gearbox are both available.
The Skoda Kamiq has a choice of Five different trim levels. The entry level is the Kamiq S, which is a bit basic, with a very small 6.5-inch media display and no front armrest or remote central locking. Other than that, it’s a case of how much you’re willing to pay. The top of the range Monte Carlo looks and feels pretty special, but you’ll pay in excess of £24,000 for one of them.
The very understated Kamiq doesn’t have to shout about its abilities, it’s a really versatile car that’s both spacious and upmarket enough to woo buyers away from bigger and more expensive SUV's.

love your reviews AJ! I've spent last month checking out Skoda Kamiq and Seat Arona have tried both and checked out with a fine tooth comb spec info and today signed up for the Skoda Kamiq! 2020 1.5 TSI SE L DSG my age? - 67 female - remember everyone wants the best! @@BassistPaul Just bought one and pick it up next week, definitely worth a test drive. We found the 1.0 DSG actually felt slightly more responsive than our 1.5 DSG Karoq that it'll be replacing, also despite hearing how roomy it was especially in the back we were still pleasantly surprised, I'm 6ft3 and there's ample room for a tall adult behind me

@@martinarscott3524 Thanks for the first-hand feedback. Rear seat passengers aren't (now) an everyday issue for us but I would like to experience the same level of kit and performance I've got used to in a 1.4 TSI Elegance I've had since new in 2015.

I went to look at a used Skoda Scala recently and ended up with a 69 plate Skoda Karoq 1.0 SE with the Skoda approved used car two year warranty. These Skoda SUVs really are brilliant practical cars. Ideal for my elderly parents who have mobility issues. Only small issue I have is the 1.0 TSI feels a little underpowered in the Karoq. I live in a hilly area(Sheffield) and it struggles sometimes.

Excellent review, comprehensive and sensible. I've been impressed with Skodas I've been in, comfortable and solidly built. Intending to keep my 10 yr old diesel C class Merc until I stop driving, but if had to change one of these or an Octavia estate would be a tempting choice.

    Great review, lovely looking car.
Just a note on your comment on the warranty though and the VW group. I`ve owned a Passat since new 9 years old full service history and still running well, but I`m currently arguing with them over their anti corrosion warranty. I`ve got rust on both front wheel arches which is fairly common on these cars owing to the design. VW are not interested, which rather defeats the purpose of offering the warranty in the first place.
Maybe if reviewers like yourself highlighted the reluctance of manufactures to honour their commitment to purchasers people would have more faith in their products.

I've always had a soft spot for Skodas. I always liked the quirky look of their Eastern European styling before they were bought by VAG. What he failed to mention is Skoda were actually a prestige car company before the communists got their hands on them. If I make it to Prague, I'm definitely taking a trip to the Skoda museum.

I've had a Golf R DSG and a Karoq DSG, there's a big difference between the 2, the Golf was generally excellent although it could've done with a setting in between normal and sport. In comparison the Karoq is a bit jerky pulling away and 'quirky' in its choice of gears when you put your foot down sometimes, but I personally wouldn't say it's a show stopper (then again I'm not an expert when it comes to cars and I've only had a VAG auto for just over 3yrs in total)
