Hi Thomas, I am from Sicily and unfortunately I have to say that lots of people absolutely ignore (or don’t actually know) rules when driving. As for the Karoo, very nice car. Your reviews are always spot on. Keep up the good work
I know it's already a 5 year old vid but I just wanted to say that I got the entry level karoq and can cruise fully loaded with two adults and two kids at nice 130 kmh with absolutely no problems. 130 is the maximum that is allowed here in Austria. Very satisfied with the small engine. Awesome car
Superb review. Initially I thought the video was too long for a car review but I was wrong. Thomas provides lots of hands on detail in his review and its worth watching it all because his delivery style and the camera work gives the viewer the sense of being in the car with him which helps a great deal to learn about the characteristics of the car. Really great review thank you!
Hi Thomas, no matter where you are driving there are always those selfish and crazy driver's. Two crazy driver's within five minutes. I thought you coped with them very calmly and professional, I on the other hand would have added a swear word or two. A great and informative test-drive. Thankyou.
Seems like an auto that someone has planned thoughtfully. The flexibility of the rear seat could be very useful. Something Thomas does well is learning each vehicle so he is able to demonstrate it to us.
Tomas you look very elegant in this clip, great intonation, great diction and great presentation of a nice vehicle. It is very nice when you see someone that is perfect match to his job.
Oh no I have just seen this and I have to go to work. Will look forward to seeing it tonight. Note to self: do not take the iPad into the bathroom when getting ready for work 😎
Finally watched it. I love it and as usual, a thorough and informative review. Although I am a blue and white car fan (not together 🙀), this colour has grown on me and lots of manufacturers seem to be adopting it.
Another brilliant review, Thomas. This one really showed off the car, of course, but also showed what a lovely human being you are. Your concern for the 'lil doggy' was a charming and gentle touch. One thing, could you tell us whether the Skoda Karoq has a spare wheel as standard (I hope) or one of those useless tyre repair in a can things? Thank you again. David
Nice review Thomas. I would also prefer wheel arches in plastic trim, looks nicer and more functional for me. And the car looks really functional for all kinds of situations. Skoda is getting better and better with every new model.
In VAG gruop I prefer Seat design language, but appreciate the simply-clever ideas in Skoda. If I had to choose Ateca or Karoq that would be a difficult choice. Perfect review Thomas, many thanks!
Full, fantastic review as always. Great car and loved that swift action you did using your elbow to pop up the rear headrest 😊 Would like to know what would happen with the rear passenger’s head/face when the vehicle is involved in a crash where the vehicle stops suddenly and they impale themselves on those phone holders? Not sure about these to be honest and I think I would have them removed or not spec it?
Another great review, no hesitation here. Being concentrating on describing all details and being disturbed with Italian drivers, no wonder that stayed in 4th gear and made 7 liters consumption. Driving on autobahn in highest gear brings a lot to lover consumption. Car itself seems perfect for everyday use in city and outside, my personal taste would be for stiffer suspensions.
Front passengers have air bags in case of any untoward incident while the rear passengers have ipad holders with pointy tips? I do like Skodas and think most of their line-up of vehicles are better than Seat. Another very thorough review Thomas and really good super clear camera shots there, kudos to the person holding the cam.
Hello from a wet and windy Northern Ireland! Great review as always. Slightly disappointing that the steering isn't a bit sharper. Dead feeling at centre can become annoying over time (my last car had it). May be Skoda will sort that following your review.
Skoda gets better and better with the new SUV model-offensive and the high class interior and the up-to date infotainment!! The exterior looks harmonic and cool - in a positive way !! 😍 I hope they will launch a VRS or a Sportline version. I think they hit the mark with the Karoq ! I really apreciate the new and well known simply-clever solutions. 👍 You choose a great colour :)
Insightful and entertaining as usual. I sympathised with your encounter with Sicilian driving, which paralleled my own on holidays there. Interesting vocabulary choices Thomas - on one hand you use English English with 'Motorway' instead of the US 'Freeway', and on the other then say 'Trunk' instead of the British term 'Boot'. :-)
Speed limits Italy - a 30kph stretch ends at the post saying 30 on its reverse for your direction of travel. You look out for the post with a circular sign facing away from you...
Thank you thomas for this review .. i suggest that at the end of the review .. i show us where we can get good deals on buying those car in Deutschland .. and also show the prices for all the trem levels.. thanks alot for your perfect reviews
Enjoyed the Karoq review, Thomas. Thanks a lot! It would be good to have some insight into the reliability of different Skoda models, compared to each other and compared to other brands. Many carmakers design their cars to break down at some point (planned obsolescence) to keep selling more. I hope Skoda hasn't joined the same race. Cheers, Govind
Wonderful informative review.. just like the oringal 1970s/80s Top gear.. as for the skoda..the rear seats don't new at all apart from the shoulder room.. they seem just like the mk1 touran.. i wonder if they are just as heavy. Its a shame there is no Phev or ev option.
Hi, Thomas when you explain exterior and interior of car details I feel like I'm there, this is real success ★★★★★. About Karoq; I liked this car and same as Skoda slogan 'simply clever'. See you next review....
It would be highly appreciated if you could take more detail on the materials in the future. For example the whole door and not just the upper part of it. Same goes for the dashboard, please show us the materials (hard plastic, soft touch,...) in the lower part as well. Thanks in advance and good review as always!
I have heard several reports with VAG cars of failures of the electronic handbrake, because people spill coffee or other liquids over the handbrake button! It should be positioned well away from drinks holders etc. On my Golf the parking brake sets itself so there is very little need to have it near the gear lever and the holders for cups and bottles of liquid.
Hi Thomas, thanks for the thorough review! And regarding the speed limits, if nobody mentioned it before me, then if the speed limit is not explicitly ended, then it ends at the next intersection/roundabout or end/start of village/town/city - this is different to zone sign limits, which always require explicit 'cancel'. This rules apply in Czechia and Slovakia, so most probably they will apply in Italy, too. Cheers.
Great review. I don’t want to invest in diesel, from what I know this is the best petrol engine on the market for a compact or mid sized SUV. Other manufacturers are seem to be using smaller underpowered petrol engines. Does anyone wish to comment or disagree please.
Thomas, I really enjoyed every review you made si far. Věry detailed and looks always unbiased. Kudos! Just 2 comments on small "mistake" you made: - there is option to buy flipable front passanger seat - non vario-flex back seats can be flipped from boot but dont provide middle armreast Cheers
Nice and very detailed review as always, many thanks for your work guys. One suggestion if I may: could please indicate a ground clearance comparison between same class SUV competitors? Thanks again and keep up the great job!
Great review thanks! Would you say the karoq is comparable with the peugot 3008 in terms of interior quality and quietness, I'd be looking at petrol versions of both. Thank you
Nice review with great scenery & crazy drivers. Unfortunately the steering deadzone is common in Skodas as they seem to use sub-standard drivetrain components, I pointed this out in your Octavia review. I know they call Skodas the cheap VW option, but it is not anymore & they have gone up in price so no excuse to make the steering average. Cheers.
Hi Thomas, not so much a review as a complete introduction to the car! I have a 4x4 diesel Karoq on order and am looking forward to the review in Finland of that one. I tow a caravan a lot and hope this one will be at least as good as my 4x4 Yeti which is an excellent towcar.
Hi Thomas, it's interesting to hear and watch you driving with selective gears at times.i.e.in 3rd gear etc. Would you not harm the gearbox, by not changing into the top gear at any given time. As in the U.K.when were taught to drive, were advised to use our gears and build up the revs to reach the top gear, allowing for traffic ASAP.. On motorways etc.would you normally be in the top gear of the vehicle, or do you drive in a lower gear to save fuel.? Would be very interested to hear your views and others, if possible.Thank you in advance.🤘
You shouldnt be too high when acceleration because that is more effort for the engine and uncleaner burning process ... if you let it roll / steady speed then higher gears for better consumption
I had to laugh a bit at your reactions to the driving on Sicily. I had the exact same reactions when I rented a car there myself. I usually never have to use the horn on a car but in Sicily I probably used it a couple of times a day.
It is very sad that most of these super features (varioflex seats, hook rails, etc.) were standard in Skoda Yeti since 2009 for much lower price. Now you need to pay extra for all these things ... :(
Looking to trade in our Ateca for a Karoq. Thomas's comments re: power boot on MBQ platform are very interesting. Viewed car today in showroom. The rear of the car was only 1m away from the showroom wall, I stood behind the car, someone opened the boot from the inside and I was pinned tight against the wall. I'd expected the boot to stop when it met resistance but it kept pushing me against the wall and only stopped when I managed to push it with my hands. If this were a child's head being pinned against the wall it may have been very serious. I cannot believe how this mechanism got thru our UK health and safety laws.
Great review Tomas! About fule consuption. If I'm right you were driving 4th gear and about 2.5k rpms at least some part of your trip. TSI do not like this. To get 5.6/100 L/100km you should target 1.6-1.8k rpms all the time and shift gears on 2k to get on 1.6-1.8k on a next gear. My Skoda Yeti 1.2L TSI manual, could get 5.6L for 100km. BTW how would you compare steering of the Karoq to Alteca, Kodiaq and new Tiguan?
Were is the nickel frame on side panels of the windows? I don't see in any car on video but in earlier videos or photos there is. Even in skodas configuration page is not there. Strange.
Brilliant review Thomas. That Italian driver came back for you at 42:37. We are thinking of buying an SUV for the family. For the budget, I am looking at a 2016/17 Volvo XC60, 2019 BMW X1, 2017 Kodiaq or 2018 Karoq. What would you recommend? I am aware that they different classes. But just curious of your view.
Thomas, Do you get prepared cars ? Because in Hungary, the KodiaQ-s front door grab handles squeaks and rattles when you touch it, the dealer says, all of them are like this, also the dashboard rattles in a new car ( i don't like being fooled with Quality feel, without actual build quality).... C'mon even a Suzuki interior is not that bad.
Sadly, maybe the effect of #Dieselgate (and it doesn't change in higher trim levels). I would suggest you to get in a partnered dealership, not an official one somewhere further away from big cities, to test it yourself (maybe they fixed it since then)
please thomas do a comprehensive review of the bmw 118i..this is because i became an autogefuehl fanatic after i saw your review of the a45 amg and would really like to see a review of the bmw 118i
Very good review as always. Could you begin to compare ex Skoda vs VW vs Audi? Sometimes I wonder if dreaming of an Audi is really worth it anymore. Thanks
Wow, in 2017 one needs to pay extra to have 3 separate removable rear seats, whereas I have it standard in my 13 year old Renault Scenic II (also there is this possibility to mount only two seats in the middle). But if they would connect the exterior of Ateca with the interior of this Skoda it would be a quite nice car. The exterior of Karoq, especially the rear (the same goes for Tiguan) is really disappointing
Hey Thomas, this must be the most physically demanding car review you have done so far 😂😂😂 ( taking out the seats with microphone in hand) it's not easy at all I bet.
Cheers Thomas for reviewing my next car, thanks for that! One question though, have you had a chance to interact with the "Virtual Cockpit" they teased us with at the Frankfurt motor show? What are your thoughts on that option? Worth it / not worth it?
Thank you for your response, much appreciated! But now we come to the real question : you have reviewed this car as well as the 1.4l Seat Ateca, and having that hands-on experience, which model would you choose, and what engine on it? I know trim levels and extra options are, well, extra and up to everybody, but your opinion on engine size would carry a lot of weight around here. Looking forward to your response! Cheers!
They all come closer. I would compare concise offers what you can really get. If money is not THAT important, I would get the biggest displacement petrol engine with the lowest horse power output for that respective engine. Or if already available, the 1.5 Evo
Autogefühl, so what you’re saying is make and model and trim level is mostly irrelevant, and the deciding factor should be the engine. And it should be petrol, not diesel?
Thanks for your very comprehensive timely review (as usual). Always enjoy Thomas's practical down to earth viewpoint. I think the Ateca is slightly more attractive and 'sportier' to drive but the Skoda is slightly more practical and seems to be better quality inside. I agree the 1.4/1.5 TSI DSG is a great combination when I test drove the Ateca vewi months ago and would prefer it over the 2.0 TDI. Either car would serve one well.
Warning! The 1.5 evo 148 engine suffers from juddering at low speeds from a cold start. This is a problem also experienced in the T Roc with the same VW engine. Hopefully the VW group will develop a software patch to fix this issue otherwise there will be a lot of very discontented customers.
More elegant than the Kodiag - interior and exterior. I love the grey color.... yes I agree there should be an indicator for the 2 cylinder mode - feedback for eco drive is always good. Thx for your reviews !
the handheld microphone we use a) in situations with background noise that would be a little annoying to the viewer as the handheld one is better insulating the sound and b) it also serves as branding. If you watch more of our reviews you ll see more situations with lavalier than with handheld
Hi Thomas, I am from Sicily and unfortunately I have to say that lots of people absolutely ignore (or don’t actually know) rules when driving. As for the Karoo, very nice car. Your reviews are always spot on. Keep up the good work
Autogefuhl has become the Topgear of RUclips. Waiting for you to come on mainstream Thomas.
+Aniruddha Kashyap thx spread the word!
this is mainstream!

Initially I thought the video was too long for a car review but I was wrong. great to have u here!
Fantastic Review as always Thomas - Many Thanks. And loved the driving part with views through the windscreen. Cheers.
+gordon bennett cheers m8!
gordon bennett ......My favourite demonstrator, a good cheerful precise and very informative fellow.
Always the best reviews on RUclips. Thanks Thomas.
Definitely the best source out there for car reviews. Thank you for being so thorough Thomas and helping me experience a virtual test drive.
thanks stick with us :)
Hi Thomas, no matter where you are driving there are always those selfish and crazy driver's. Two crazy driver's within five minutes. I thought you coped with them very calmly and professional, I on the other hand would have added a swear word or two. A great and informative test-drive. Thankyou.
hehe yeah sometimes I maybe should do that ;-)
But youtube afaik also realizes swear words :D
Seems like an auto that someone has planned thoughtfully. The flexibility of the rear seat could be very useful.
Something Thomas does well is learning each vehicle so he is able to demonstrate it to us.
cheers steve !
The review is excellent and views of your country are even better.....just mesmerising
It's great to see the upholstery and trim samples!
glad u like it !
Tomas you look very elegant in this clip, great intonation, great diction and great presentation of a nice vehicle. It is very nice when you see someone that is perfect match to his job.
Another fantastic review from the Autogefuhl team. You never miss a beat. ✅
thanks pal !
Great review, Thomas is best person for this job.
+Ernad 🙏🙏
That's a very nice review. The only thing i am missing is the night drive and the lighting review, what's also important.
I like more and more this channel, reviewers are good.
Keep it up like that!
Thanks pal!
In the beginning I looked more on the landscape than on the car. ☀️😎
:)
Thomas, you are definitely best car reviewer in the world !!!
Greetings from Canada !
thanks m8 !
A great review with great insights into how the Karoq actually performs on the road. Thank you!
Tomas you made another awesome review
A stunning design and beautiful stylish modern compact SUV.......Well done Skoda, most definitely a winner!
9:20 FYI additional move for the backrest is neccessary so the middle seat goes fully upright, so don't worry
Oh no I have just seen this and I have to go to work. Will look forward to seeing it tonight. Note to self: do not take the iPad into the bathroom when getting ready for work 😎
mikeymarmalade good one :)))
+mikeymarmalade 😂
Finally watched it. I love it and as usual, a thorough and informative review. Although I am a blue and white car fan (not together 🙀), this colour has grown on me and lots of manufacturers seem to be adopting it.
Another great car review. You know this job Thomas 👍
thanks pal!

thank u so much David! Not sure if spare wheel is standard, but you can surely get one
This can do wonders for Skoda in Indian market... No other company matches it in this segment in india..
Italian driver in 32:35... nice! The mirror spotted the guy in time, that's a good example of the blind spot warning!
Nice review Thomas. I would also prefer wheel arches in plastic trim, looks nicer and more functional for me. And the car looks really functional for all kinds of situations. Skoda is getting better and better with every new model.
thanks john!

Great design on that cup holders !!! Simple and effective. Allows drivers open a bottle with only 1 hand. Greetings from Brazil

I do like Skodas and think most of their line-up of vehicles are better than Seat.
Another very thorough review Thomas and really good super clear camera shots there, kudos to the person holding the cam.
cheers pal !
German driving in Italy... :-) so funny watching the cultural differences!
5 Stars review that really help to decide about a car.
Thanks!
Thomas the speed limit is always ending by the next crossroad. Same rules in the whole Europe. Good review by the way :)
yeah I know but quite often that was not that obvious ;)
Not in New Zealand or Australia!
Hello from a wet and windy Northern Ireland! Great review as always. Slightly disappointing that the steering isn't a bit sharper. Dead feeling at centre can become annoying over time (my last car had it). May be Skoda will sort that following your review.
+Andrew K, Northern Ireland ye i already told them!
Remember that thing you built in NI in 1912, it didnt steer so well either.

Clear review as allways :) any idea when you get to drive and test the new T-roc Thomas?
AJ will do it this weekend while I will test drive the A8 !
Good stuff!

Hello Thomas. Isnt it time for a new Karoq video?
Great review Thomas, super. This Skoda looks a bit in the front like the Jeep Cherokee .. we have a 2018 one in the family, 3.2l 4x4, 271hp.
appreciated!
Thomas you are the greatest! Your review are so complete, precise i love the way you do them! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
thanks so much for supporting us!
I agree
Thomas, is it possible to make german reviews too? Or at least with german subtitle, haven't you think about it?

coming online in about an hour =)
Lovely review. Too bad they kept the same dry-clutch DSG7 problematic gearbox on this engine configuration.
Meridian Moda Why problematic?
I had to laugh a bit at your reactions to the driving on Sicily. I had the exact same reactions when I rented a car there myself. I usually never have to use the horn on a car but in Sicily I probably used it a couple of times a day.
hehe =)
Great review...but don't find it more interesting than the Yeti..it used to have a sweet spot
+Krish T thx!
I cannot believe how this mechanism got thru our UK health and safety laws.
lol I would have loved to see that :D
Great review Tomas!
About fule consuption. If I'm right you were driving 4th gear and about 2.5k rpms at least some part of your trip. TSI do not like this. To get 5.6/100 L/100km you should target 1.6-1.8k rpms all the time and shift gears on 2k to get on 1.6-1.8k on a next gear. My Skoda Yeti 1.2L TSI manual, could get 5.6L for 100km.
BTW how would you compare steering of the Karoq to Alteca, Kodiaq and new Tiguan?
yea sure, didnt drive in 4th all the time of course. Could bring it down to 6 l.
The steering is best with the Ateca and the Tiguan imho
Thank you :)
Im more getting like 8L/100km with our new karoq 1.5 tsi. Will try to keep this 1.6-1.8k rpm , and see if it improves...
Thanks!
Want most space? Take kodiaq. Sportiest drive the x1. I d check which u can get without animal skin seats in ur market. All are good cars
Autogefühl thanks so much mate. Surprised you didn’t mention Volvo? :)
Danke anyway.
Well the XC60 is also very nice no doubt. It has the most comfortable seats and the best interior choice when you go for the City Weave option.

So good to hear your animal free upholstery on your posts.
Thanks for caring john!
@@autogefuehl Have been a vegan for 10 years now. So always need to know these things. Keep up the good work. 🐄
Awesome, thank you so much
Thomas, Do you get prepared cars ? Because in Hungary, the KodiaQ-s front door grab handles squeaks and rattles when you touch it, the dealer says, all of them are like this, also the dashboard rattles in a new car ( i don't like being fooled with Quality feel, without actual build quality).... C'mon even a Suzuki interior is not that bad.
+A K oh wow?
Sadly, maybe the effect of #Dieselgate (and it doesn't change in higher trim levels). I would suggest you to get in a partnered dealership, not an official one somewhere further away from big cities, to test it yourself (maybe they fixed it since then)
A K new car rattles are covered by VW warranty, insist on it
Definitely my next car once it launches in India.
please thomas do a comprehensive review of the bmw 118i..this is because i became an autogefuehl fanatic after i saw your review of the a45 amg and would really like to see a review of the bmw 118i
hey john, we do have a M2 review you ll surely like: ruclips.net/video/Z24qYy43WJE/видео.html
Another great review, Thomas. Which one would you prefer between Karoq and Ateca? Looks very similar cars.
I test-drove Ateca and liked it a lot.
+Sashbar cheers! Checking our ateca reviews?
Very good review as always. Could you begin to compare ex Skoda vs VW vs Audi? Sometimes I wonder if dreaming of an Audi is really worth it anymore. Thanks
thanks! Indeed the differences are not that huge
16:35 are door handles more solid than in Kodiaq? Try to twist it see if plastic creeks
Hey Thomas, this must be the most physically demanding car review you have done so far 😂😂😂
( taking out the seats with microphone in hand) it's not easy at all I bet.
haha =)
Cheers Thomas for reviewing my next car, thanks for that! One question though, have you had a chance to interact with the "Virtual Cockpit" they teased us with at the Frankfurt motor show? What are your thoughts on that option? Worth it / not worth it?
+Tiberiu Dubău nice to have but not a must
Thank you for your response, much appreciated!
+Robert Leong cheers!
Plain and simple - nice Baby SUV ...
Warning! The 1.5 evo 148 engine suffers from juddering at low speeds from a cold start. This is a problem also experienced in the T Roc with the same VW engine. Hopefully the VW group will develop a software patch to fix this issue otherwise there will be a lot of very discontented customers.
Is this good enough for three asults, average size, at the back?
More elegant than the Kodiag - interior and exterior. I love the grey color.... yes I agree there should be an indicator for the 2 cylinder mode - feedback for eco drive is always good. Thx for your reviews !

Love the video, time to invest in a wireless mic? Reviews might be easier with both hands free!
the handheld microphone we use a) in situations with background noise
that would be a little annoying to the viewer as the handheld one is
better insulating the sound and b) it also serves as branding. If you
watch more of our reviews you ll see more situations with lavalier than
with handheld
