      like when Ted Kennedy's name was added on a "no fly" list that delayed him from boarding flights. If Repubs were behind it, I'll bet that had a great laugh about that one... if true, a demonstration of their power, and the willingness to abuse.
      Maybe police officers can network with those who enter names into the recognition database, and add somebody's profile to it AFTER an altercation takes place, so that the officer can claim they were scared for their lives and personal safety.

      AI is sneaky in that way, especially when used in criminal justice. But regardless of what we expect vs. what actually happens, we have to accept the terms to use the tools. And these days, it seems like not using these tools is becoming less and less of a choice. Even our employers are using social media and apps to find applicants. Convenience helps us get more done. I love alexandria work and the lady talking about false accusation and automatically lableing someone as a criminal based on facial recognition is messedup. I also predict that white men will automatically be considered "Innocent" when this kind of technology takes effect. I love Alexandria work and its amazing how much she can expose about our government.
    Also if you look like one of the criminals (Since there are people who look similar to other people regardless of race. I seen people who look like Tom Cruise or Chris Rock and so on). You will be automatcally label a criminal if a cop pulls you over even though you didnt commit any crime and just happen to look like them.
    Basically I can foresee that if you are white, you are automatically not guilty of any crime since this is built by white men and so it doesnt respresent the entire humanity. Discrimination at its best when it comes to this kind of stuff. Invasion right to privacy alone is already a crime and now the facial recognition used as a discrimination is really messed up.

      Rockin BoBokkin when you were pulled over, were you snatched out of your vehicle before proving your innocence? Was a gun pointed at your face before it was proven that you were violent? Were you accused of having a gun as you reached for your wallet? If no to all of the above, you’re most likely apart of the problem in this country and this comment is not a valid argument for equality.

    The implication that these algorithms were developped in a biased way intentionally is a huge stretch.

    • @wsk5nwytscnkfsu
      @wsk5nwytscnkfsu 5 лет назад +6

      Whether or not the bias is intentional is a non-issue. The problem is that the bias, intentional or not, does exist.

    • @jacquesantoineportal
      @jacquesantoineportal 5 лет назад

      @@wsk5nwytscnkfsu yeah the bias is there I'm not denying that, I am saying it is an unintended consequence of the data used to train the algorithm, which can be fixed by changing the data set to one that represents everyone better. The narrative that says it was developed by privileged people to protect personal interest is dangerous. The people developing these algorithms follow the best engineering and scientific practices. If some politicians exploit the vulnerabilities of these algorithms for their own interest, you can't blame it on either the algorithms (it is just maths) or the developers. Shifting the blame on the data scientist as this video heavily implies is misleading and suggests that there is some kind of conspiracy behind it. There isn't. So it is an issue that matters, at least to me who studies data science. On another note, I'm European and very much pro GDPR which says holding someone's personal information without their consent (I won't bore you with the exceptions) is illegal. Letting the government hold biometric information on their citizens is very dangerous and a terrible idea in general.

    • @wsk5nwytscnkfsu
      @wsk5nwytscnkfsu 5 лет назад +1

      Jacques-A Portal Sure, it could be fixed with better data sets. But that’s also not the point. Setting aside the privacy and human rights problem of nonconsentual surveillance itself, the biggest problem is this: that it is still either currently being used or about to be used in its current faulty form.

    • @jacquesantoineportal
      @jacquesantoineportal 5 лет назад +1

      @@wsk5nwytscnkfsu Yeah I agree with that. There should be much higher testing requirements before using any kind of technology for that kind of purpose. I wasn't countering the point made. My point is that some of the implications she makes are dangerous. They blame the technology and the people developing it more than its use.

    • @wsk5nwytscnkfsu
      @wsk5nwytscnkfsu 5 лет назад

      Jacques-A Portal Yeah, that is a valid point. On a separate note, though, isn’t the fact that these technologies are developed based on a certain demographic and considered applicable to the whole population still problematic though? Regardless of the developers‘ intentions, it still is the case that they consider this technology based on (and effective on) a certain demographic to be “a good technology that needs slight improvement”. If the technology worked only on black people and it constantly misidentified white male subjects, they would deem this technology to be insufficient or even ineffective. I hope it makes sense.. It’s kind of like how medical drugs and even treatments are developed based on all-male subjects and still applied to all people, which often causes women and children who are mistreated or misdiagnosed. I am not saying that the developers have bad intentions, but somewhere in either their head or in the system or just society in general, there is a very deep innate bias that views a certain demographic as a default, and that creates a biased technology.
