So, you are just choosing to not believe the facts these students are expressing within their arguments? And better simply labeling it as IGNORANCE because their points do not favor your biases. Engaging in debate fairly relies more on overall ability to play fair than it relies on intelligence. It’s about refraining from the dirty hits and going for the fair ones, and letting your opponent do the same knowing it might hurt. Like being able to play soccer without getting upset when you’re outplayed or smacked in the face with the ball.
No matter if you like Ben or not, the fact that he made this video to be the 6th highest viewed on the Oxford Union channel among those videos 9-10 years ago, and was able to debate fluently for an hour, is really amazing.
Nope. His debating skills are juvenile at best -- he doesn't back up any claim with any evidence, merely deflecting into slanted questions. There's a reason why his initials are B.S.
The quality of students at educational institutions has gone sharply downhill over the last few decades. Additionally, the accessibility of information online has gone way up. So it's a combination of students getting more ignorant and (some) people online getting less ignorant.
Because this is where the majority get their information , and if those arguments fit their ideology, which it almost always does because that’s how the algorithms work, they believe it without an open mind

Oxford alumni here-- this was a bad showing from the Union. The lack of basic respect shown to Ben and the utter hostility of both the Union officers and the crowd makes them look extremely childish. Instead of having the nuanced discussion a topic like this deserves, we got this display of emotional fragility, grandstanding, and failed "gotcha" moments from a few students who clearly think too highly of themselves. What a shame.
It was more than obvious, however, that in this time of "emotional fragility" and myriad deaths in Gaza everyday, that the majority of the community did not want to hear what Ben Shapiro had to say. He's a known propagandist, just from his lack of address of how Israel funded Hamas, and his reliance on sarcasm and patronising behaviour to get him to seem assertive. His methods are obvious. When you know him as the man who wrote both Anti-Arab and Anti-Palestine tweets years back, and the man who stormed out of a BBC interview, not debate, it does not shine the best light on him. In times like this, you will see the worst of people, and you cannot blame them; I have no respect for a liar and a man who argues with young adults for a living. If he had some self-respect, he would allow his own ideas to be challenged by people on a similar level to him in terms of knowledge.

It's funny watching Muslims get upset that a superior force is "stealing their land" despite the Quran saying Muslims have the right to take non-believers land. Muslims cry like babies when they are held to the same standards and the favor is returned.
The fact that we are seeing literally one of the strongest academic institutions in the world showcasing students who believe emotion and fact are the same, is one of the most disheartening things I've watched in a long time.
In politics emotions have mattered more than facts forever. In fact they exactly teach that it in university's debate groups how to evoke emotions in listeners to help support your point and all these populist politicians with posh accents begin to pick up their skill of talking bullshit and get away while in universities like Oxford and Cambridge. New York Times had a good podcast on this, its called "Rabbit Holy". Definitely recommended :-)
They've exchanged good for evil. Being rude, loud, aggressive is seen as respectable and honourable in the worldview-religion of those students. Being gentlemanly, respectful in contrast is seen as weak and cowardly.
In Poland if a student said 'shut up' during a university debate, he would be silenced immediately and expelled the day after. We have to sign a pledge saying; 'I solemnly vow (...) to treat with respect the authorities of the university and all members of it's community, respect academic laws and customs and look after the dignity and honour of a university student'. On this ground anyone can be removed from the course for being rude, disrespectful or acting dishonourably. I think it may be the same in Czech Republic.
I can't believe an Oxford student actually told his interlocutor to shut up. Coming from, supposedly, one of the best universities in the world. Absolutely shameful and disgusting behaviour.
Look at the state of the current student bodies and recent (past 10-15 years) alumni as opposed to what it used to be pre 2010 and there’s your answer. Also Oxbridge has been desperately and frantically enrolling ‘diverse’ students for the past decade and a half so much so to the point where being Muslim or black - regardless of your grades and moral values - gets you an instant tick. Unfortunately both Oxford and Cambridge are being turned into ghettos for the ‘disadvantaged minorities’ who have absolutely no desire to respect or learn about the culture and heritage of Oxbridge and instead would rather smear the very foundations of both institutes with their unBritish and uncivilised rhetoric and behaviours.

indeed a joke😀! In WW2, the use of nuclear weapons was deemed justified for mass killing. However, in the present day, such actions are no longer acceptable, even in times of war. This represents human progress in our moral standards and the value we place on human life. In the west, police forces are generally not allowed or encouraged to use force to kill a kidnapper if innocent people are being held hostage. but this respect for human life may not be universally upheld elsewhere, especially in Gaza and Afghan. his is an unfortunate reality. Domestically, the West has established laws and regulations to protect the rights and safety of its people, but some places in our planet, that obvious piece has long been missing.

there's difference between colonial approaches and conquest approach, Muslims throughout the history never colonised a country in fact what they did is conquering new states to spread the true message and the religion of god, you will say no they used sword and force, yes they did but not against civilians and not against elderly and children nor women, but only against the armies that actually fought back and the one who surrendered or accepted the religion weren't touched at all. so do some research or if not stay shut because Islam is still the religion of the true god and creator of this universe, wether it's spread or not.

Ben is good at playing the game of debate, but trust me if he debates a real knowledgeable and experienced person, he will lose. Ben's whole argument in the video is about Arabs not accepting a two state solution, well, thats assuming the Arab leaders arent British agents, which many are. There's enough evidence in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Iran in the 19th century about the British government funding minority weak groups with weapons and assets to overthrow the country and kill anyone who stands in their way. My Syrian grandpa was among the people who got assassination attempts from the Arab British agent (AKA Hafez al-Asad) just for running a presidency campaign, so I know first hand about this. Philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, medicine and much more flourished. This idea of "sapere aude!" preceded Kant by more than a thousand year. The dark ages was more advanced than us when it comes to morality, yet they lacked the study of sciences. And when enlightment came, the opposite happened. The West advanced, however, they starting losing faith, consequently leading to Nietzsche's "God is dead". That resulted in the first and second WW. What do we learn from that? Ben's whole argument in the video is about Arabs not accepting a two state solution, well, thats assuming the Arab leaders arent British agents, which many are. There's enough evidence in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Iran in the 19th century about the British government funding minority weak groups with weapons and assets to overthrow the country and kill anyone who stands in their way.
Ben lowered the tone from the get go by saying that one of the students had a "bullshit argument". His way of debating is aggressively arrogant & his constant attempt to intimidate and undermine the opposing argument says a lot about his character. Although these students were rude in some ways, it doesn't change the fact that the match up is unfair. I noticed Ben always bullies younger people in many of his videos, its almost as if its intended.
So why doesn't Ben debate someone like Muhammad Hijab (33 year old Oxford student) or others with higher experience and knowledge? For example Muhammad Hijab challenged Ben multiple times and asked for debates, however Ben always refused. In my eyes, Ben is avoiding the real threats to his arguments because he will be exposed.
Therefore, Ben's whole argument about the Arab leaders breaks apart as many were agents of Israel. These Arab British agents are not working for the benefit of humanity, but rather for the benefit of Zionist Israel. They sold their soul to money and power.

The dark ages was more advanced than us when it comes to morality, yet they lacked the study of sciences. And when enlightment came, the opposite happened. Having an adult conversation with today's college kids is an exercise in futility.
Preach! 🙏🏾
ignorance + arrogance will destroy our civilisation
Ben is just as bad. Might of sent the IDF to speak instead lol
@@lukerichards85The construction is "might have" or the contracted version "might've". There is no " might of".
@@lukerichards85Ben is speaking the truth. You just don’t want to accept the truth. That’s pathetic and sad.
Defund your children from these institutions
It isnt the quality of the education obviously. It isnt the quality of the people who attend or teach there, obviously.
Obviously it is the exclusivity of the entire institution, whom you know and network with, build reputation with during your stay there, and stay connected with through fellowships and alumni orgs.
@@Rakschas666 It is the quality of the education and the quality of those who teach
too late. we have bunch of college kids protesting things...but many of them can't defend there position. "Social justice" is an example. they will use something erroneous from a politician and run with it. No research necessary. If someone challenge them, they yell on top of their lungs and run off.
Do you read a hadith of the day? Hilarious! 😂 I can't stop laughing now!
@@Rakschas666 I'm pretty sure that the quality of the education includes those who teach there. While networking is a benefit of attending an institution like this, it has nothing to do with the quality of the education.
The more I watch Ben’s debates, the more I appreciate his incredible ability to debate with reason and respect.
I was brought up to think Oxford was the ultimate educational experience. This debate has changed my mind. 😢
Oxford it's a joke university
Totally!
It's not just Oxford sadly. The cancer is everywhere.
It's a Jihadist hub now.
