It's helpful to have a small power bank to recharge your phone in a pinch, and small packets of travel detergent to make your wardrobe go a little longer. Sometimes I will pack a small duffle inside my suitcase if I expect to return with more than I left with.

    My travel essentials are:
    - Citizen Nighthawk with the slide rule - very handy for currency conversions, inexpensive enough not to worry about wearing it out and about, looks good with almost everything. Slim, very understated 1970s Longines dress watch for more formal situations.
    - Tiny little Chanel sample perfume bottles (the square ones with the screw tops) - ideal to decant just the right amount of fragrance into for a two or three week trip.
    - My trustiest bag - a plum Marc Jacobs leather shoulder sling bag. A mugger in Rome last Christmas spent five minutes trying to wrestle it off me or break the straps, and ended up leaving empty handed because it just wouldn't give way. I got back to the hotel with a few bruises and all of my possessions intact (other than a broken necklace I had repaired the next day). A hero piece.
    - A beloved, cheap gold 'claw' index-finger ring that adds drama to a look. Also quite useful in a mugging situation !
    - A lightweight tablet for movies, emails etc so I can leave the laptop at home
    - Flat, sturdy Vagabond Chelsea boots for walking everywhere and dressing up for evening
    - A floorlength wool coat. Wrappy and warm for daytime layering, dramatic enough for evening

My "Meditations" is "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind." I have a copy in both of my bags, the day bag and the weekender. It's a must, and if I find myself sitting somewhere waiting, it's a far better way to spend 10 minutes than scrolling through lord knows what on the phone. Loving the look of that new CF weekender bag and have been on the prowl for the right bag for a while. The fold out feature is brilliant!

Very nice travel/EDC gear. For my 1-week-trip to the Netherlands I ended up taking with me the do-it-all Sinn 556i, the summer fun watch Seiko 5KX and the dependable Seiko SSC009 ("Solar Flighty"). The Quartz Seiko turned out to be a good choice, because handling hypercharging cables for the electric car does not go well with mechanical watches. 😬

I'm using Vivo Barefoot shoes (white leather pair and black athletic pair). Gore Wear R7 Trail rain jacket and pants, Montbell umbrella. NiteCore NB10000 battery chargers x2, Anker charging block. My EDC includes a bunch of different knives, but lean toward the Protech Malibu, Tactile aturn Rockwell, Spyderco Sage 5 lightweight. Torch is Reylight mini pineapple. Pen is Tactile Turn Side Click or Urban Survival TiBolt. I like a fidget and Lautie makes some great ones. Wallet is Open Sea Leather Topsider.

    Hmm.
    1. Tortuga Setout 45L Bag. Love the ease of carry with it. Let's me save money on checked bags while maximizing what I can bring.
    2. My foldable day-pack.
Because I can't carry my luggage backpack everywhere after I arrive.
    3. Usually a comfy pair of Nikes, jet black, although beyond that I'm not very picky.
    4. Bose earbuds. Perfect for all manner of planes, trains, and automobiles.
    5. At least just one Polo. Works if I ever need to appear decent.
    6. My trusty Sammy. My Planet Ocean 39,5mm on an Artem Sailcloth Strap. Rugged sports watch that has just enough flash/class to work in more formal occasions. Performs like a top too.
    7. Power Bank. Keep your phone alive, and it'll keep you alive.

There’s a big difference between suede and nubuck. Suede is a hide that has been split down the middle and so it’s actually only half a skin in terms of thickness, while nubuck is an unsplit leather that has been slightly sanded to give it that smooth velvety surface texture.

Love this! I've just landed in the tropics , here to play some gigs and have a holiday.working holiday I guess. I live in New Zealand. Because of the weight restrictions as I'm carrying so much music gear I could only bring two watches ! First thing I noticed upon landing was my wrist swelling up meaning I can't wear my beloved Stratton Local Time as I have the jolly micro adjust at it's max setting , so I grabbed my Chronos GMT ( Rolex GMT homage , I REFUSED to get a fake !) and got my tool and adjusted the micro adjust. I can take this piece snorkeling as it's 200m rated. My point is to take a jeweller tool (please forgive me I don't know the name of the tool, I just know how to use it 😂) with you when traveling overseas so you can adjust your bracelet to fit!

Watches; Tissot Gentelman for formal or everyday, Seiko SKX007 for scuba and snorkeling or Certina DS Action Diver, Tissot V8 automatic Chronograph for driving or Straton Daily Driver Chronograph. Shoes; Italian Superga sneakers, Chukkas by Thursday Boot Co. a NY company but handcrafted in Mexico, at $145 you can't get better. For working out Feiyues for Kung Fu. (I have a very wide foot so my shoe brand options are limited). I have my Opinel knife for fruit, cheese or boxes etc. and the very same Doss speaker (both on your recommendation). I tend to dress classic, navy Harrington jacket, dark jeans or Levi chinos, Fred Perry polos and various Banana Republic stuff. Nicely done, TGV. Couldn’t be more appropriately timed as people are globally breaking travel records right now. Logistics and regulations are still trying to play catch up, but we are definitely on the up swing.
I also travel with bluetooth/external speakers. Can’t be beat for certain situations. The waterproof bluetooth ones are the best.
My son has been pretty adamant about the MP3 players. I may have to look into that as it might be quite useful. I hate taking up space on my phone and if I can’t stream music then that might be a solution.
Completely agree regarding the Sennheiser earbuds. They aren’t a hugely known name in the US, but they are FANTASTIC.
TGV and Tacti-COOL shorts. I never would have guessed! What man doesn’t live for pockets!?!
I can’t wrap my head around the new “Fanny pack” resurgence. They say fashion is cyclical, but never did I think that trend would return. Funny how the original term HAS NOT returned!
PS Vita forever! Mine is long lost. Have a Switch but miss my DS and Vita for sure.
I love your Carl Friederich bags. Bit modern for my taste but nicely made. My gear gets utterly beat to death. For that I want something that is ABSOLUTELY and UTTERLY rugged. No frills, no luxury but entirely forever functional. For my travel roll aboard you cannot get a more robust bag than from LuggageWorks. 90% of all airline pilots use them, and there is a reason for it. Not cheap but will last you forever. For my personal bag I recommend Brightline for a flight/compartment bag and for something far more classic and nice look at Saddleback leather. Top shelf.
Must get a copy of Meditations.
Always, always dress well. I cannot stand this current “athleisure”, don’t care what the world thinks of me, ultra dressed down, travel in pajamas, utter lack of self respect trend, I fly in crocs mentality. Trust me. I don’t care who you are p, how you present yourself matters. If you look like you just rolled out of a laundry basket, you will be regarded less well than if you put effort in. Argue all you want, but it is a fact. America especially has been displaying a sincere indifference to attending to their appearance, and we are being looked at as simple tourists and low class by much of the rest of the modern world. Anywhere else you go (and I go most places), people put effort into how they look. This American trend of putting so much effort into looking like garbage boggles the mind. You don’t need to wear a suit, but wake up and try one something other than your gym clothes. *rant over*
Look at Walker and Hawkes for extremely well made, classic, British brand, and made in Britain outerwear. Not modern at all. More gentrified look but excellent.
Watches. Always fly with a GMT and a Wolf watch roll with three other pieces. Usually a diver for overnight casual wear, a chronograph or beater, and often a dressier piece just in case.
Footwear, fly in oxfords or boots, normally enjoy Sperry’s for the layovers. Not a sneaker guy unless I am working out. Also, a big fan of Clark’s footwear.
Gerber shard for those who fly and want a multi tool. Rotring pen. Always! Oakley Holbrook or American Optical for sunglasses.
Timeless choices, TGV! Excellent video. Thanks ever so much! Hope your travels are safe and comfortable. I’ll see you out there. Onward and upward, my friend.

Totally agree on Sennheiser ear buds - I’ve used a pair for years, the sound quality is truly superb. I have some JBL Bluetooth ear buds, but the Sennheisers blow them out of the water - and they never need charging or pairing with my devices. I don’t listen to music while I’m walking - I concentrate on walking, so the whole wireless thing is a waste of time for me.

As a fashion photographer I always make sure I bring a power strip with me. I charge a lot of items lol. That travel bag is pretty nice. I may have to look into it.

Hi TGV. I am going back home from a vacation trip. The only thing I do carry that you didn’t mention is a portable battery pack for my iphone and one for my ipad. These has been lifesavers when i am traveling in a foreign country and not sure if I can secure a place to plug.

Great suggestion, my Carl Friedrick carry on case actually has one built in with a USB port on the outside 😉
I totally agree, a total lifesaver.
