Guthrie is a wizard like gandalf he there as a force of good to influence the people he doesnt need the super recognition he is fighting evil behind the scenes loool
Guthrie is one of those players who makes me want to either A) go home and practice my butt off or B) go home and throw all my guitars in the dumpster.
and its so hard to criticise him in any way. he shreds but he's also immensely tasteful when he wishes. he has jazz chops but he doesnt shove them in our face and go all ornette coleman on us. and then he just nails some country because fuck it, why not?

>Guitarist: having time of his life playing something that must have taken ages to workout >Audience: contemplating every single life decision that caused them to stand there as a spectator unable to play what Guthrie is playing.
Everytime someone asks me who's the best guitarist out there p4p, string by string, fret to fret, it's always this man Guthrie Govan. Then they ask me why, i show them this. Everyone can shred that's given but to be this articulate and creative and humorous all at once and gives alot of wisdom when teaching is one of a kind.
The Best, Superb Be-Bop, loved the double stop country section, then I knew what he was up to, then Blues, awesome Metal Legato, big smile, joy to watch, not arrogant or look at me, though he knows he is the man, and finished up with Wes Montgomery octave thing, like rounding third base, after hitting a Home Run. Which he always does. Wish he would make more instruction videos, I could only scratch the surface.
They're better than Guthrie only at CLASSICAL GUITAR, which is the style they specialize in. But Guthrie is highly competent to virtuoso in many styles.
That is true but there it is a similar case with Brent Mason in the US. Check out the Hot Wired album. He is also eclectic and about same generation and if Guthrie wins in shredding then Brent wins in even more tasty Jazz and Country licks and definitelly in the tone department. Guthrie sounds body-less as a plectrum sound producer, very pointy and unpleasant au contraire to his appearance. Not glad about it but just have to pretend that he sounds good when he does not in fact. Sorry. :(
Met Guthrie a couple of times at the Army & Navy as it was then in Chelmsford . He was just chilling watching a few bands.. What a smashing bloke he was too. But Christ just when you think you've heard all of his skills another RUclips vid pops up. Stunning stunning player the most rounded on the planet... A pleasure to listen too.
Obviously one of the best guitarists in the world. Very melodic. So many music genres and guitar styles. So much virtuosity. Every note is golden. No mistakes. Like Tommy Emmanuel.
never heard vai try this, and for that reason.. long live Govan as the chief of all guitar gods..Thanks for showing us some some gainless shedding Guthrie..fan for life!
i was looking for some similar playing to what Guthrie does on Steve's hands and yet couldn't find any jazz like phrase, at least not that obvious; yes GG does it all! Greatest musician ever!
Yea ah kssss kssssss in my fave top 3 with Greg Howe and Frank Gambale so wicked thank you for inspiring and making your own style too and modifying the greats
Thought he was still playing the walking bass line once he started the lead break. Slowly realised, not even Guthrie could maintain that bass and play those ridiculous runs. Still what a unique sound every time.
ah now to my ears and sensibilities he is shining in a form of music that suits someone of his ridiculous immense skill and talent. I struggle with wank outside of jazz flamenco and Indian classical music but I appreciate it's a free world.
I have recently discovered GG through the work of Steven Wilson in the past few months and I can already say he is in the top 5 greatest guitar players I have ever heard. He is so modest and almost innocent looking too! I want him just in the corner narrating my life with his music.
+tonepoet Yes, he can legitimately play over changes. And he's digested enough jazz & country, and has the chops, to imitate the styles. But he lacks legitimacy in that he can't swing to save his life. His jazz and chicken pickin' is really stiff.
Hi, my name is Donna Lee, just like the song here, and not long ago within the same day I met two people one named Charlie, the other Parker (lol) and I joked about that saying hey yeah Charlie Parker, and now I'm looking at a picture of the Mona Lisa in my livingroom and Guthrie Govan is wearing a tshirt with the Mona Lisa in this video too ...this is too funny (lol) And I like to play guitar so I'm going to subscribe.

Guy is absolutely incredible. He can play any style almost effortlessly. Very melodic and soulful as well. Full package.
what I like the most from Guthrie Govan is the sense of joy that he brings to his playing
absolutely! he never miss the chance to make you smile with his playing!

I think that's the best thing he does.
I have a smile on my face everytime I watch him...Maybe cos he's nearly always smiling.
I'd have a sense of joy too if I can play like he does... LOL
I don't understand how this video only has 25K views. Govan is the type of musician that only comes around once a lifetime

Those two are 'real artists', and world class with it. Guthrie is at their level in the guitar world, so there's nothing really to complain about.

The crowd is on fire. Like they need to chill for real
They’re watching one guy play be bop on his own to a loop. What do you want them to start moshing ??
bunch of fuckin eloys they are
Probably the most complete guitar player of today! Long live Guthrie!
His country pedal steel feel on this is great!

in all of them or one in particular? could you give me one link please, it'd be fun to watching it, thanks
Steve Vai is not close to Guthrie Govan's level. When they were on stage Guthrie blew Vai out of the water.
Vai is a rock legend.
Guthrie is well,
the legend.
The audience = when you need to grab groceries at wallmart but have to drop by at GG guitar workshop
A display of such brilliance, that one doesn't come across very often.
His versatility is amongst the best I’ve seen. Unbelievable.
His talent is beyond next level, yet he’s so chill and down to earth
greatest guitarist of all time
Is there anything this human can't play on guitar-brilliantly!
It's these kinds of skills that set GG apart from all the rest. Brilliant!
Hey thank you man especially for trying your hardest to make the tabs. this guy's isn't human with his guitar playing.
Huge thanks for posting this and the tab. Internet needs more people like you!
Just amazed at Guthrie's musical prowless. This man can take any style and make it his own!!!
the most versatile guitarist ever
He sounded like buddy emmons playing Donna Lee, just crazier and crazier with Guthrie

As someone who actually listens to himself he's a really important, inspiring teacher
