Nice observation! now that you mention it., the fretless guitar wonderfully played by Bumblefoot´s in the cd version, kinda sounds like a chicken as well, (in my ear´s opinion).
I do get why people name John. It's not skill but influence. John Mayer is in a unique position to be the most famous of em all because he's a famous pop/singersongwriter, but one who is still known to be a guitar player more than anything else (and doesn't just stick to playing pop music). Now if you look at the past 20 years and you'd have to say who the most influencial guitarist is, John is miles ahead on anyone else. When it comes to influence, John is the Hendrix of our time. Skill wise I'd have to say Guthrie is the best to ever do it in an all-around package.
Anette Haxholm it's more than just his ears doing that... his brain, and skill, hand eye coordination. but yea it's all in his ears.. he must be an elf hybrid
Well I have a feeling that he actually messed up on the first go through of the main melody, so he ended up having to improvise the rest of it. He's so good that his fuck ups are barely noticeable!
I can't tell you how much I LOVE 1:58... the way he slows down and plays intentionally sloppily on the tapping part and then the hilariously horrific chords... just genius, makes me laugh every time And that's not even mentioning the bend at 1:46
On a side note (pun), at 2:29 when he stares at the ceiling for a few seconds while STILL hammering away the fretboard, I lose it .. Holy 'Alien-like' Competence, Batman!
i was always a mediocre rhythm player. Then I decided to grow my hair and beard exactly like Guthrie and the shredding just totally fell into place within a few months.
Practice mate. I'm complete dog shit on the guitar but to just give up without trying seems silly. I'll play on regardless. It's like comparing myself to Usain Bolt. Fuck it chop my legs off I'll never run as fast! If it makes you happy then indulge. find your own voice and play the shit out of that guitar. Remember that you are you. No-one will sound like you. Just play the stuff you can and progress from there.
find your own voice and play the shit out of that guitar. Love that philosophy .. keep fighting the good fight because it's fun. It shouldn't be like "a Dragon you gotta slay" ..
wow guthrie is the bassist two, i gues this is just proof of how fast he is
IT_Garfield he's Seth Govan, Guthries brother
Hahahahahahaha
É o irmão dele ^^
Mas foi uma boa piada.
Lmao
It's his brother I guess. Or maybe he's just a video effect!
this guy is the best, nobody is as versatile as him,
no matter what he plays it's never boring
In a different style, try Marcin Patrzalek (Poland)
He isn't as versatile as my guitar teacher!
I've checked all my guitars and none of them have that many notes! He's playing a trick guitar!!! Yes, that's it!
are you still alive
🤣🤣🤣
@James Black Think the comment was in context to being in absolute Europhria and hes now died from its shear power and has returned to Elysium🤙🏾
Well technically he's using a trick pedal, an octave pedal.
What an absolute master. So great.
Just when I forgot that I suck at guitar, this comes along.
Greg Maland
Ironically enough, I first saw this video in a compilation video called "Guitars Suck" during RUclips's infancy lol
You either lack discipline or are just not good. You obviously have low self esteem. Practice yourself better.
Chicken pickin' technique....Rhode Island Red is a type of chicken.....always have loved Govan's sense of humor.
Nice observation! now that you mention it., the fretless guitar wonderfully played by Bumblefoot´s in the cd version, kinda sounds like a chicken as well, (in my ear´s opinion).
@Unfiltered Reality This song is finger-pluckin good, and Col. approved! :)
add sh here ya go!!
I'm from Rhode Island and was like wait wtf why is someone naming his song after my state? Now I get it lol
Good catch on RI red. that went right past me!
21th centurys most completed guitar player
Then you have fools saying John Mayer is the father of every guitarist under 30yo lol
I'd have to say Bumblefoot beats Guthrie in literally every category.
I do get why people name John.

@@umpygoodness2369 😂😂
@@umpygoodness2369 watch ever video of guthrie
1:45 - 1:47 are the greatest notes ever played
1:45 is sounds like horse
Whammy pedal I’m guessing.
Best guitarist alive. Hands down. Probably best ever
Ya him electric and Tommy Emmanuel on acoustic could take over the planet.
Max ostro now aged 18. Check him out. Blindingly good!
Totally agree 👍
Not even close!! Check out Matteo Mancuso!! He is truly the best
1:07, this will now be stuck in my head for a while....thanks Master Guthrie
ahhh so many notes. how the heck does he not fuck this up
When you get this good you ear is so well developed that your ear guides you
Anette Haxholm it's more than just his ears doing that... his brain, and skill, hand eye coordination. but yea it's all in his ears.. he must be an elf hybrid
Well I have a feeling that he actually messed up on the first go through of the main melody, so he ended up having to improvise the rest of it. He's so good that his fuck ups are barely noticeable!
He practiced
it's mostly memorizing scales and improvising off of those in the vein as he originally composed the song
Its amazing to see him struggling at some points.
He is indeed human.
I can't tell you how much I LOVE 1:58... the way he slows down and plays intentionally sloppily on the tapping part and then the hilariously horrific chords... just genius, makes me laugh every time
And that's not even mentioning the bend at 1:46
thats the bit that stuck out for me too :D
same, had a big smile already but lost it at that point
what about the muted stacatto runs? never seen anyone that articulates them like that. crazy!!
It's a ring modulator pedal I believe
I think this is what Guthrie refers to as "playing irresposibly"
At :50 when he starts palm muting, he's playing so clean and so fast, it sounds like he's only playing every other note against a delay pedal !
On a side note (pun), at 2:29 when he stares at the ceiling for a few seconds while STILL hammering away the fretboard, I lose it .. Holy 'Alien-like' Competence, Batman!
yeah lol
he can do edge covers without delay.
Those chords at the beginning and end are so beautiful I've got to transcribe them
What chords are they?
Clarence Alfonso Only Lewis Birkett can know...
He nearly dropped the ball at 0:40 but improvised through it like nothing happened. Mad
Thats why the best improvisers are called 'Cats' .. they always fall back on their feet !!!
Nice ear. I didn't notice that on the first couple passes. You can hear a tiny misstep, and then a damn awesome recovery. Well spotted.
The applause by those who witnessed this live in response to what he just phenomenally played was so severely lacking.
he’s above asian level damn lord
Alien level
Lol just wait or surf more who knows there will be 8 year old Chinese kid with clean smash Guthrie...
He's an Asian Alien shape shifter.
Its so beautiful . Full technical. Note blues .and shredder . That's amazing
One of those rare solos that can make you laugh.
I laughed literally while reading this
This is better than the studio version and other live versions too, perhaps the best.
Best guitar player in the world...maybe ever? C'mon!
0:51 almost sound like it has a delay effect
I know. Shows how crazy accurate his timing is on those muted notes.
it's not? OMG
I think the album version really had a delay
Awesome every time..🤩🤩🤩😍
Other than incredible skills hes got humor all over
i was always a mediocre rhythm player. Then I decided to grow my hair and beard exactly like Guthrie and the shredding just totally fell into place within a few months.
Christ. He's a bloody magician.
The amount of shred
Guthrie is absolutely impossible man, such a monster
Holy Shit !
That was just fun .. 100% fun!!
He's fluent in so many styles
I'd love a proper decent Deliverance movie remake where GG encounters the banjo prodigy and blows HIM up the creek in a duel. That would rock.
This man are an alien.
The Bass Player is Seth Govan - Guthrie's brother! It must be a pleasure to play along with ur bro'! :)
That is absolutely bloody ridiculous. What a beast.
this is the kind of music i listen to on repeat
This song remind me Steve Morse's Pride of the Farm 👍👍, Guthrie, what a genius ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really dont care for shred too much... Guthrie is sort of changing my mind.
Speechless.
There will be no more technical difficulties than this style of picking❤️❤️Gg
Dude, my mind is already blowned.
what are you doing this
The guy is so accurate it sounds a bit like a guitar-pro track ! Guthrie=The Best
There really is no one better
His tone was so good when he had his Suhr and Cornford.
I'm drooling over that suhr
Nice, I like this type posts, Cheers !
This man does stuff on the guitar that ought to be illegal, LOL.
Guthrie is an alien from the planet guitar because no human being has those guitar skills!
this man never left any poussy for us...
Lovely
I hope they let Guthrie visit his home planet once in awhile.
For best alternate picking fast country picking is the best way ofcourse with string skipping too.....🙏🙏🙏🙏
What a mad man.
Blown away
G da man
At 1:07 sounds like he learned those descending notes from Eddie Van Halen. Ed would play that little descending run alot in his solos.
he is crazy 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👏
this is in my top 3 songs on Guthrie's 2006 solo album. such a fun track >=:) looney tunes!
Greatest guitarist .
Unreal.
I have got to learn that live intro. is there a tab laying around somewhere
Reminds me of Danny Gatton! Good shit!
dolle!
Wow Guthrie is insanely good
Give it up for Guthrie Govan on guitar, and slightly younger and more innocent Guthrie Govan on bass!
is there anything he can't play perfectly? crazy man!~!!
Holy mutha of shred
1 word.... genius
One of the best players ever Dam this guy is good
Huh, didn't know Guthrie plays Base too !
did anyone else put all their guitars and amps on ebay, after watching this?
+Thebigbowler thinking about it
+Thebigbowler m8 poor way to look at it haha. buy another guitar and amp, and use this as a motivation to get better!

True. I sold a bunch of guitars, but every now and then I find one at the pawnshop and decide to give it another try. lol
find your own voice and play the shit out of that guitar. Love that philosophy .. keep fighting the good fight because it's fun. It shouldn't be like "a Dragon you gotta slay" ..
cool sound 😎
It reminds me of John Deere Letter by Steve Morse. Love Guthrie.
Daaammmnnn!!
That intro is so awesome
2:50 GG: "Hey God, can you do that?"
2:30
Fack my idol the great guitarist in the world the humble man only pro can understand hes playing
Anybody got that transcribed lol !
It's all just one long note with gaps in it
Waaaaw waaaw waaaaaaw
Guthrie WINS
Perfect
I hear he's Steve Vai's replacement at the crossroads. You're all damned now.
2:30 "I am fucking great!"
THIS MAN! :D
Now this cat can play !!!
Sou fã
His tone here is way better than on the album ..
What song is it?
@@bradfordstring65 Rhode Island Shred !
my God, This guy is damn insane! f***!
Guitar levels:
4. Shredders
3. Asians
2. God
1. Guthrie
Guthrie is Guthrie
Does anybody know how he came up with the name for the song? As a fan of him and somebody from Rhode Island I'm very curious
Professor👍
DUDE HITS EVERY NOTE
This GG would play guitar even in Heaven
