People still don't realize Portnoy wrote the 12 steps spanning over many albums. Each of the albums selected songs that are part of the 12 step concept reflect on each other to tie the whole story together over many albums. It's stuff like that that makes portnoy a superior writer and not just a good drummer. So for people who say this song sounds like this other song, that's why. It's intentional.

I love MP and I want him back, but I understand DT, because MP decided to leave, then came mike mangini and there cannot be turning back cuz imagine them telling Mike Mangini “hey y’know we all wanted and needed you here with us cuz MP left and we needed a technically gifted drummer who can play the older DT songs and create new albums with us but now that MP wants to return, we want to tell ya goodbye. I love how mike played the drums to solitary shell wearing a kiss my ass shirt...little things like that shine a goofy reality onto the recording process...a singer recording these super emotional vocal parts in between the bouts of scream shitting from the bad chinese food that got delivered to the studio

Mike Portnoy's drum tracks are actually fairly easy to pull off once you've learned his "licks"
