    I wish more genres and the prog scene would treat it's classic songs and musicians like jazz musicians do. A ton of extremely skilled and nuanced players building on standards, and instead of arguing over who should and shouldn't play a song, we just listen. Judging by the comments we are becoming more open to that kind of thing.

    • @suprchickn7745
      @suprchickn7745 3 года назад +2

      Very solid insight. I like the way you think! I think part of the issue is jazz standards are old enough that no one owns the copyrights anymore. All the copyright holders have to play well together for this to happen.

      Better than Petrucci, Tony has a smile on his face, Petrucci always looks terrified and stressed out that he is going to make a mistake
      This video was so refreshing to watch, I stopped being a fan of Dream Theater because Petrucci just ruined the band, I play guitar and would never emulate Petrucci's pathetic looking style. MacAlpine is playing with no fear and simply killing it, that is how to play guitar, you will always make a mistake from time to time but a good guitarist you will never know it.

    No if's or but's, these guys are shredders. MacAlpine has a much more post-bop jazz sensibility than most metallers. To some ears this may not "rock as hard" as the more traditional harmonies. For me, a blazing lead that suddenly spreads out into a more alien harmony is like a coaster drop. It's great when they lock back into primal grooves.

    Tony MacAlpine. One of the most underrated musician. When you play with Steve Vai and you do keyboard and guitar well your are good. Hats off to Portnoy - Sheenan - MacAlpine - Sherinian , Pettruci - Myung - Mangini - Rudess - Levin and many more who are great musician and are a delight to listen to.

    A better DT than DT.
    An actual living being playing bass,
    NO SINGER,
    8 string-shred maestro that's not an egomaniac,
    and a key wizard that isnt boring.

    Ecclesiastical Umbilical cord/ chord - Sheer Honey for the Ears.
    I am by no means a huge fan of "Prog Rock", BUT this quartet transcends any comparison to that which has gone before in this genre. They are seemingly a hybrid of all that was brilliant in bands such as ELP & Yes, for starters, Man, this is the resurrection of Prog Rock !

A tip that most of you jealous guys don't seem to grasp, if you spent half the time working on your ability to play as you do crying about someone better than you, you might actually be something. But people like you are pretty damn stupid so I doubt it will happen enjoy being nobody.
