I wish more genres and the prog scene would treat it's classic songs and musicians like jazz musicians do. A ton of extremely skilled and nuanced players building on standards, and instead of arguing over who should and shouldn't play a song, we just listen. Judging by the comments we are becoming more open to that kind of thing.
Very solid insight. I like the way you think! I think part of the issue is jazz standards are old enough that no one owns the copyrights anymore. All the copyright holders have to play well together for this to happen.
Better than Petrucci, Tony has a smile on his face, Petrucci always looks terrified and stressed out that he is going to make a mistake This video was so refreshing to watch, I stopped being a fan of Dream Theater because Petrucci just ruined the band, I play guitar and would never emulate Petrucci's pathetic looking style. MacAlpine is playing with no fear and simply killing it, that is how to play guitar, you will always make a mistake from time to time but a good guitarist you will never know it.
