I saw DT perform this with him on the Awake tour. DS is a killer keyboard player. He has balls to his playing that is lacking in a lot of keyboard players. It's actually impossible to knock against any of the DT keyboardists as they're all amazing and I wish I could play as good as any of them. I really miss Kevin Moore's magic and his lyrical genius. DT misses his song writing. Derek was an amazing replacement and I think tonally the best of all the DT keyboardists. I've seen Jordan Rudess play solo and his technique is jaw dropping, but IMHO his tone and "wankery" don't emotionally connect with me. Jordan is an incomparable musician but I yearn for some of the other things that Kevin and Derek brought to the band.
I'd give you two thumbs up if I could. I totally agree in every way. I can only add that where Moore and Sherinian complemented the DT sound, I find that Rudess grates and dominates in ways that just ruin it for me. I only wish that Derek had stuck with the band. Who knows how great that might have been?
@@janiikavalko6223 you wrote a very nice writeup here… agree with you, kevin moore is missed. I wish he would do something else with chroma key.. or with Matheos.
If you make music on a high level yourself you cant not analyse - you will auto analyse everythings - if you then know the song you know how often Tony is fucking up here. Dosnt make it a bad performance since everyone (even Petrucci) dosnt play this cleanly through usually. Theres allways something wrong - nobody is perfect - if that woud be it woud sound like midi right? Truth is - Tony was ok for biggest part of the song but specally ending of the solo was totaly fucked - shit happens - move on.
@@dynamicdissonance4016 It's all subject to opinion. I can play not too bad myself i must admit. But I never thought Tony f*cked up anything in this solo.
If the talent these vurtuosoes have meant a bigger paycheck, they would do a lot bettter than all these pop wannabe artist that make music with computer. I am lucky enough to go see Mr. Mac in a month in Ottawa. How lucky would I be if all these guys were there???
I always get drawn into Billy's playing. He is just such a unique virtuoso master of the bass. As a guitarist, I love watching such great masters of the guitar play, like, Tony. But Billy is just so amazing. I forget to watch all the other great musicians in the band. So I have to go back and watch it again, and again.
I recommend everyone to listen to the first solo albums of Macalpine. Incredible technique and really good songs. What you can see here doesn't make justice of his playing. He is also a fine pianist.
Tony Mac the " Kick ass Shredder with Groove and Feel" smashing that 8 string Ibanez...... Love it ... A great version of a classic dream theater number .....
Tony doesn't tour with his band in my part of the world but he came here as the keyboardist in Vai's band. I went to that concert hoping to catch him playing the guitar just for a bit. Couldn't really care much for Vai. Lol.
This is where it started, as a Sherinian Instrumental. When people badmouth FII and Sherinian, they're forgetting he wrote the best track on the album! Petrucci is responsible for most of the stuff people hate on.
Best drummer in the world would be in my opinion, Simon Philips. Simon can play paradiddles with his feet faster than most professional drummers including the late great Neil Peart.
Mac Alpine doesn't butcher anything, not with his level of experience. He has tremendously smooth control and note execution. Also he knows how to compensate.
We often forget that falling into infinity is a very good album, so unique... its sound is great as well as ist songs such as new millenium, lines in the sand, hell's kitchen
This is one of my favorite DT songs. First time seeing it was at the House of Blues in Chicago with DT during the Awake tour. Then the kids grew up and I saw this lineup play this song with Jeff Scott Soto and Bublefoot in a Sons of Apollo Show. Amazing. This shred-monster McAlpine shows up and shreds on this video doing the song justice. Thank you for this performance. Epic.
I Knew DT songs for the first time when DS was on Keyboards... I really like his stile , and for this song, TM was just fabulous on guitar! ES on Bass was impressive! Nice timeless register!!!! Thank you!!!
nycfunk Absolutely! I really enjoy listening to Tony and John but Tony is clearly the more versitile player. He did some great jazz-fusion albums with Dennis Chambers
Nailed it man. And another one that was doing it before it was cool, right along Tony was Vinnie f-ing Moore. To this day, these guys set the standard for inspiring prog metal guitar. hell... guitar in general.
Man, it's so good to see how much fun they're having playing together. It's always such a treat to just see musicians enjoy getting lost in the music. Even on these songs they (Jerry Shayamalan and Mike) have been playing forever, it's still great to see how they're adding their own flavour and freshening it up.
I really love the guitar solo here (even if i don't particulary love the tone of the guitar) i liked the fact that this is not a note-for-note replica, the little changes of the rythm an the melody is really refreshing (same for the keyboard)
Portnoy. OMG. This gigantic amount of talent combined with that cosmic amount of work makes mankinds best drummer. The song writing, the technique, the expression, the nuances, the enjoyment at its most enormouns level.
Completely monstrous. I've been a fan of Dream Theater for a long time. It's trippy watching Tony's take on Petrucci with Billy Sheehan. Portnoy AND Derek...all these guys are monsters all by themselves.
Cuando escucho lo virtuosos que son. Siento inspiración y ganas de seguir practicando. When I listen to the virtues of these musicians, I just want to keep practicing. 🤘🎸🎵🎼
I stoped listening to DT after Mike left and I kinda moved on a bit, and now after a few years I kinda randomly heard Hells kitchen and Lines... Let me tell you, I am so captivated by f.i.i. album i cant stop listening. Even after 20yrs it sounds so fresh... conteporery... more than any other album...
Derick Sherinian made me like keyboards again. DT will never be what they were without he and Mike. And this group individually and as a whole rocks the fucking house!
Kick ass job. Nice to see Tony playing with these guys. And Sheehan is down right monster on bass. I could tell Mike P. Was enjoying himself, that is good to see. Rock on guys.
Falling Into Inifinity is a very underrated album. I love it.
it is there MOST underrated album by far! And it is easily one of their best!
one of the best
It’s trendy to hate it and like most brain dead people they just follow the trend.
Tony McAlpine...still the best
My favourite DT period. No useless "passenger" notes or thoughtless arpeggios. Just tasty atmospheric rhythms and tones
I agree,.. Derek (inclusive Kevin Moore) had the "magical touch sense"
totally agreed

Derek is that Rock On attitude and plays with heart.

Tony MacAlpine - such a Legend.
People who hasn't heard his debut album "Edge Of Insanity", really missed out.❤️
Welcome back, Portnoy!
Tony Mac is awesome, Petricci is awesome. Just enjoy, don’t analyse.

@@MAGAMAN don’t tell me not to tell you what to do! 😂
When I watch Derek play it is obvious to me that he was never nerdy enough for Dream Theater.
Tony is a phenomenon!!!
Derek is (past) the real and the best talent and carisma for Dream Theater ever.
Mac Alpine is a badass! So underrated.
Maybe. But his tone sucks ass.

A DT song with a keyboard that doesn't sound like Tom and Jerry chase music!
It MUST be Derek Sherinian!
Ginger Knight Never thought of it that way but you're 100% correct.
Exact my thought, i.e. Endless Sacrifice.
Train of thought era is w/ the wizard tho
I think TOT was the last time Mike and John were able to get the shackles on Jordan - Definitely was more of a heavy Indulging Mike kinda album :)
^^^^this... lol i have no complaints about that fact. everyone bashes it but i believe black clouds was the last time they put jordan in a cage
Billy Sheehan - 4 strings is all that is needed.....
Go TONY go!!!
I recommend everyone to listen to the first solo albums of Macalpine. Incredible technique and really good songs. What you can see here doesn't make justice of his playing. He is also a fine pianist.
He’s just laying back and playing the tune. He’s a freakin MONSTER tho.
Tony Mac the " Kick ass Shredder with Groove and Feel" smashing that 8 string Ibanez...... Love it ... A great version of a classic dream theater number .....
Tony's playing is simply impeccable. I haven't heard a guitar sound this good in ages. I'd pay good money to hear that tone live.
Tony doesn't tour with his band in my part of the world but he came here as the keyboardist in Vai's band. I went to that concert hoping to catch him playing the guitar just for a bit. Couldn't really care much for Vai. Lol.
yeahh..refreshing..the iconic keyboard sound
Yep. Though i enjoy newer dream theater works, i can't help missing the good old dream theater line-up.
How about that new guy? Jordan or something... he's pretty good too ;)
It's not the original sound
More like retro-freshing.
You know this sound comes stock on a Korg Triton, right?
Even without vocals this music is amazing
Soufiane Naim when music start to speak :)
the best music in the underrated album. ironic.
better without vocals
Donghan Lee What?
This is where it started, as a Sherinian Instrumental. When people badmouth FII and Sherinian, they're forgetting he wrote the best track on the album! Petrucci is responsible for most of the stuff people hate on.
The guitar solo on this song might be my favorite of the whole DT catalog. Sometimes less is more.
Portnoy was the essence of dream theater no doubts
They lost their soul when he left. Also liked Kevin Moore and Sherinian better than Rudess.
Best drummer in the world. Bass player old as your grandpa, rocks like a hurricane.
Best drummer in the world would be in my opinion, Simon Philips. Simon can play paradiddles with his feet faster than most professional drummers including the late great Neil Peart.
Nah, he is the best dramatic drummer. But one day he will twirl the stick with his right hand.
Bily Sheehan... 65 years old.... the bass knight..
Leonardo C and the guy still kills himyself every single night in every single gig! Amazing!
You never get old when you're living your passion.^^.
Leonardo C really I respect his talent. A lot. But don't like his stuff.
Myung, Lee, Squire, Levine, Webster,Malone, Sheehan all greats
ive never been able to tolerate sheehans playing OR tone. but he fucked savannah back in the day, so theres that
Simply awesome ! At that time, DT compositions had a power to explode the universe!
Mac Alpine doesn't butcher anything, not with his level of experience. He has tremendously smooth control and note execution. Also he knows how to compensate.
I agree..petrucci is good, very good but this man has feeling too..my opinion..
Tony can also play circles around Derek Sherinian on the piano.
Doug Cronkhite Haha! Exaggeration much!?
@@Egoblivion Nope. He's right. Derek is a complete hack that uses his fame with DT to manipulate young music students in LA. I've seen it.
TMac perhaps Sheehan are the only real musicians in this setup.
Solo lindo da porra, ouso a dizer que todo ser humano deveria ouvir essa coisa linda uma vez na vida
Concordo plenamente! Aliás, essa formação é brincadeira, hein!
We often forget that falling into infinity is a very good album, so unique... its sound is great as well as ist songs such as new millenium, lines in the sand, hell's kitchen
derek at his BEST!!!
Yeah and this explains it
Best keyboardist since John Lord. Best guitarist and bassist since forever. Best drummer since Neal Peart passed.
One of the best DT songs. Absolutely fantastic.
Love this version❤
Как хорошо что на свете есть такие таланты
Tony killed that! He played JP's parts, but he put his own flavor on it. Loved it.
Such an awesome guitar solo

I've played bass for 56 years, and every time I play this,,, damn, so much to absorb. Mind boggling ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Beautiful.

Forgot how great that song is. I love Derek Sherinians keyboard tones! I remember his Leslie sounds live when with DT
Virtuosismo en cada instrumento, sentimiento en cada nota......es música!!! Un regalo para todos nosotros y nosotras.
Mike Portnoy is great on his own. Tony is a GOD and Billy is on another level. Derek is someone whom I have huge respect for.
Amazing, simply amazing!!!
Ohh great Portnoy,GREAT Macalpine! Great everyone of them!
Tony MacAlpine was writing and recording progressive music like this when Petrucci was still a student at Berklee.
