+Borja Oliva He's just one of the most versatile guitarists ever. I absolutely admire how he can go from creating a dark riff driven song like A Nightmare to Remember or the entire Train of Thought album to an incredibly emotional ballad like The Spirit Carries on, to an epic tune like Octavarium and everything in between.
That's how I describe Dream Theater to people. There may be musicians who are just as technical, and there might be musicians who are better songwriters, but no one brings the two together like Dream Theater does
Watched him sing The Glass Prison for the opening of this performance. Maaann.. that powerful raspy tone. The setlist was overall highly demanding for the vocal
This was recorded by National Romanian Television TVR, the band was impressed by the warm sound recorded, a vintage sound , so close to natural,...I was there at this concert, great memories, first time seen aliens on earth!
this fuckin guitar solo made me cry! shit this is a great band. cant understand people that reject them because of the so-called complexity and over technicality. WTF man?! THIS IS MUSIC THIS IS ART AND THIS IS SO POWERFUL.
Damn, this is one hell of a performance. I love that little piece Petrucci adds from 7:56-7:59. It just fits the song so damn well even though it's not part of the original recording
This was their prime era for sure! Labrie voice still freaking monster, JM with RBX was my favorite bass sound making him not lost in the mix, Jordan with his Kurzweil still sound natural and not some fake sound from his iPad apps, JP with his blues influence making his solo have way more soul, and last but not least MP with my favorite drum set of his Siamese Monster (both along with his previous set before this one, Purple Monster for recording Scenes from a Memory).
I always say my three favorite bands are iron Maiden, Rush and DT, but really deep down when I hear stuff like this, I know who the masters really are. This is simply the best of the best.
HOLY CRAAAAAAAAP THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!! Portnoy plays this awesome live and James is singing the HAIL out of it and how the hell have I never seen this when DT has been my favorite band for 18 years?!?!?!
This is arguably one of Myung's flashiest songs. I agree, they should show him more on this one because his presence is highly notable in this performance.
This is such a great gift to RUclips. Thanks, hoshdt1! There is such beautiful musical development in this video and not a better song could have been chosen to do so. The lyrics are powerful, spiritual and poetic, and the band had already established a potent musical composition on which to expand... The result of which is, well, nothing less than extraordinary. "I like this video" \m/
Me lo había estado preguntando durante algún tiempo, pero ahora ya no tengo ninguna duda acerca de ello: John Petrucci es el mejor guitarrista que pudo haber existido!!
And half that solo is improv. What... the... fuck.... They haven't played this song live in the three shows I have seen them, hope they do it next time. So much talent. Way to mix feeling with shred Petrucci!
Yes, it is a masterpiece! John's solo such a beautiful thing! Still surprised why FII received so poor reviews. 4 songs from that albums: Lines, Trial of tears, Hell's kitchen, Peruvian skies is never bored. Great work!
Got me beat by only 2 years dtgirl83. These guys do not have a single song I dislike in any, just wish James did when day and dream unite. I just hope they do at least 1 show someday with mp back behind the kit before they all hang it up.
@@marcosromao6827 yeah you are right, i misread the comment or something, oh and there is a live out there with the full album + metropolis pt1, they invited charlie dominici and derek sherinian for the last song.
this is simply amazing, by far best moments of beautiful and powerful synergy! can anyone tell me what were the lyrics at the end, starting at 12:41 cuz I don't remember hearing it on the studio version? 🙂
I do not care what anyone says about yngwie or Stevie Ray or maybe Eric Johnson, or all those technical masters... He is not my favorite, not even over Dave mustaine, but John petrucci is THE BEST MOST technical guitarist in the context of a band. Period. That is fact. I don't care what you say. I'm right. You're wrong if you disagree. This performance puts all arguments to rest.
There are many guitar players , but for me ,nobody like John Petrucci , perfect combination between feeling , technique and master composer.
True
That's how I describe Dream Theater to people.
There may be musicians who are just as technical, and there might be musicians who are better songwriters, but no one brings the two together like Dream Theater does
The man was born and worked all his life for that sound.
john petrucci and mike portnoy are each one of a kind
Labrie has a great voice in this performance. Absolutely amazing!
Watched him sing The Glass Prison for the opening of this performance. Maaann.. that powerful raspy tone. The setlist was overall highly demanding for the vocal
petrucci's solo is just unreal
This was recorded by National Romanian Television TVR, the band was impressed by the warm sound recorded, a vintage sound , so close to natural,...I was there at this concert, great memories, first time seen aliens on earth!
What year is it? It seems like 2004ish
@@crazynights14-nk4rg As far as I know this was part of the 6 degrees tour, so around 2002
this fuckin guitar solo made me cry! shit this is a great band. cant understand people that reject them because of the so-called complexity and over technicality. WTF man?! THIS IS MUSIC THIS IS ART AND THIS IS SO POWERFUL.
Most people, sadly, seem to be apathetic, dumb, and lack compassion
they go too far too often
This solo took me to a different universe. Outstanding and unreal. No words.
7:05 damn !!
WHAMMY ŤlŁŤ N’ GASPING 😂
this Petrucci solo must be in the best 10 solos of all time.
Rui Calado DEFINITELY!
Damn, this is one hell of a performance. I love that little piece Petrucci adds from 7:56-7:59. It just fits the song so damn well even though it's not part of the original recording
+Bifftop Johnny The solo in the Studio vesion is just much better. In fact its one of the most soulful post-90s Guitar solos I've ever heard.
Rohit Jha It's pretty much the same aside from the talk box improv thing he did
what an improvisation!!
Mike Pinera anyone?
my all time favorite version of this, one
of my all time favorite songs
Petrucci master. The solo of this live makes me cry... Genious
I always loved the fact that they used "Stream of Consciousness" as a song title later on. Love me some references.
This was their prime era for sure! Purple monster is my fave followed by this one
God dammit! I love Petrucci vocals in this performance!
I love how John's face at 7:54 says "Yeah, I just did that".
So true! Best version of Lines In The Sand if you ask me.
By far the best version of this song ever!!
Dude, this band never ceases to amaze. Holy crap.
I always say my three favorite bands are iron Maiden, Rush and DT, but really deep down when I hear stuff like this, I know who the masters really are.
This is simply the best of the best.
Same here
Jordan looks like marco minneman lol
Jajaja lol
KRivera OMG that's true!
And a bit like bumblefoot as well
Jordan the goat rudess
That is not Jordan
One of best JP's solo ever !!
6:32 - 7:46
World domination.
Totally a Human absolutely unreal....JP is God
HOLY CRAAAAAAAAP THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!! Portnoy plays this awesome live and James is singing the HAIL out of it and how the hell have I never seen this when DT has been my favorite band for 18 years?!?!?!
Cause u fail
This blew my mind. I cant listen to any other band any more. Theyre simply too good
The only bad thing about this video, is that there is an ending. Unfortunately.
That and the level it got recorded at is low. Usually my system can hang with my guitar amp, but this one no way not even close. Shame
Holy shit
Never have saw this version before
Petrucci is a monster, as always!
Please come back to Bucharest, I want to see this band again! :(
The simbiose between Petrucci and Portnoy in the solo, its out of this world!
the best live version for me miss u portnoy
João Petruquio é o número um !!!!!
O cara transformou θ mundo da guitarra 🎸 ε da musica para sempre 🎉 Deus abençoe JP! Θ viver neste mundo eh muito melhor com ele! 🙏
anyone else wish they showed myung more?
This is arguably one of Myung's flashiest songs. I agree, they should show him more on this one because his presence is highly notable in this performance.
myung doesn't!
This solo and Holow years live at Budokan are two of Johns best ever.
Quite possibly the best song DT ever wrote
AWESOME SONG
god damn, times fly. I've been to this, this is sometimes in 2002 I believe, for the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence album tour.
AWESOME SOLO

I wish Labrie could still sing like that
This is their Best Album!!!
Me lo había estado preguntando durante algún tiempo, pero ahora ya no tengo ninguna duda acerca de ello: John Petrucci es el mejor guitarrista que pudo haber existido!!
One of most impressive guitar solo's of ALL times. Petrucci is just a great fuck monster 😮
The best Dream Theater song.
And half that solo is improv. What... the... fuck.... They haven't played this song live in the three shows I have seen them, hope they do it next time. So much talent. Way to mix feeling with shred Petrucci!
That is the best song performed live i've ever seen!!!!
This is the best solo of this ♾️ Universe ❣️ 🌍🌎 ✨ ☄️
No Doubt ⚡
man DT was in their prime from this time through 2008 or so! all their live performances had do much energy and feel. God I love them
The solo and the melodic sections post that would be among my favourite Dream Theater moments.
Jordan Rudess looks so fucking cool here, wish he kept this hairstyle
Got the chills...
Yes, it is a masterpiece! John's solo such a beautiful thing! Still surprised why FII received so poor reviews. 4 songs from that albums: Lines, Trial of tears, Hell's kitchen, Peruvian skies is never bored. Great work!
Poor reviews? That's crazy. That album has pure gold
@@merpinalldaylots of people dislike it, i don’t get why. It’s a really good album.
Puta q hecho de menos este DT, era otra intensidad...
What a talk box SOLO ... what an improvisation what a band ... FUCK T__T
John Petrucci with a talkbox is something I was not ready to see at all
they changed the song a lot, the original version is beautiful, including the solo...
Got me beat by only 2 years dtgirl83. These guys do not have a single song I dislike in any, just wish James did when day and dream unite. I just hope they do at least 1 show someday with mp back behind the kit before they all hang it up.
james wasnt the vocalist in when dream and day unite, it was charlie dominici
@@thegiginthesky that's why they wished James did it, I'm curious to see how that would turn out

I miss this formations
Gracias por subirlo hermano, es una de mis canciones favoritas y no la había encontrado completa en vivo.
The Double hits on the ride by Mike portnoy in 7:40 Rocks \m/ , just made my day
One of the best song of DT ...
Awesome level : Dream Theater..:-)
John Petrucci is the king of guitarrr.... mantapppppp 👍
they are like a soccer team that plays flawless...
Even the slide at 11:37 is awesome.
This ist the BEST GUITAR SOLO eevvvvveeeerrrrrr😀👍
Unfuckingbelievable performance!!! Pure Art!
Miss MP on drums :(
I didn't know Dave Grohl was a keyboard wizard. Shit, what can't that guy do?
Este show es muy bueno!!!
@4:31 “Oooooooh aaaaaaaah, that’s how it always starts. Then later.. there’s running and, uhm.. screaming..”
Spared no expense
This is my favorite Petrucci. Melodic, yet technical and with a bit of shred.... but not too much.
That intro reprise at 4:30 god damnnnnn, just like the demo.
i like intro this song
Original backing vocals on recording by Doug Pinnink of King's X. Never knew that until recently..lol.
Great performance, Petrucci is the best ❤️
I was introduced to these guys to late! During Pretucci’s solo break him and Portnoy were locked in!!!
I absolutely love this version when they do the vocal harmony at 4:45
I really like the alternate ending to this song.
this is simply amazing, by far best moments of beautiful and powerful synergy! can anyone tell me what were the lyrics at the end, starting at 12:41 cuz I don't remember hearing it on the studio version? 🙂
"Baptized, Enlightened, Surrounded and Frightened ... I'm blind to the lines in the sand."
This was the Original ‘Lines In The Sand’ before Falling Into Infinity was changed, if I recall.
I dont like that part here. It feels out of place and doesnt need to be here. Adds nothing. Better that they cut it for the album.
Happy Birthday John Petrucci!
holy that gilmourish solo is just awesome.
this is really epic!!!...John......you are amazing!......you and DT the best for ever!.....XXX
Solo✌✌✌✌💕💕💕
2020 and still great!
What a performance! Love DT
thank you very much for share this!
Abraços do Brasil! =)
Petrucci sounds a bit like Peter Franpton in the solo...amazing, great feeling.
strepitoso e molto emozionante fa venire il brivido sulla pelle
this version is awesome
So brutal I’m freaking love this 😂
Qué música tan bella!
@Kimosenth yeah I guess that's true... would like some more Myung footage though :P

watch guthrie play waves live and your view about petrucci will fade away....
I agree
I hope the Dave Mustaine part was a joke lol.
ProgrsvTechniq mustaine shreds in your dreams lol
Fuck dont say guthrie hahaahaha.. he and petrucci are hard to compare
This is freaking amazing!
I want this exact version played at my funeral.
@0:01 - I thought that was Peter Dinklage.
Petrucci couldn't play a wrong note if he tried!
How can you not like this version???!!!!!
Yes ALL song is very cool , DREAM THEATER !!!!!!!!!!THE Nº1 PETRUCCI AND PORTNOY...AND MYUNG.....
my favorite song !!!!!!!!!
@n00dlejester that's why Derek was the best think to happen to DT
