This is Dream Theater at their peak. I’ve seen them live 15 times. Nothing like this tour. This is when they looked better, sounded better, singed better, in perfect harmony. Good times.
One of their greatest tracks. I'm probably in the minority of DT fans, but I loved Falling Into Infinity. It has at least three of their best ever compositions IMHO.
New Millenium, Peruvian Skies, Lines in the Sand and Trial of Tears are the songs on that album that I come back to the most, as they're probably the proggiest on it.
Falling into Infinity is some of their best work IMO. I’m a huge Petrucci fan and his tone was sooooooo damn good then. Its one of their hidden gems for sure.
storeeteller1 Man... Train of Thought is one of the more popular (and the most loved by metalfans) DT albums. As I am is played in any concert nowdays. This Dying Soul and In the Name of God are two of the best songs of this band. Great album very aprecciated.
I’d say When Dream And Day Unite is their most underrated. Such a greatly composed album that really captured their songwriting capabilities at that point in time. But of course Falling Into Infinity would be #2 most understand DT albums.
I'd say they just screwed a little bit the first two songs. Coming out of Awake / ACoS and jumping into New Millennium + You Not Me was maybe a bit disappointing, but the album has those hits... ❤️💥
The version from Boston Opera House was cool but it was not even close to this one. It's been over 10 years and it's still one the best live performances ever, the whole concert was but this song was the highest point of it in my opinion. So fuckin' perfect!!!!
Dude.. totally agree!!!.. I actually came to this one right after the Boston opera version. Didn't like the bass mix, love it on this one... Best version of this song live... Bar none!!!
Prog metal definitely not but I would say Rush gets them in the prog rock category. Rush essentially set the stage for DT to come along with their insane music
+armando cardenas I don't know the first thing about drumming so won't get into the Portnoy/Mangini argument but I have to say that Portnoy provided a "stage presence" that is sadly lacking these days
Finally, somebody said it. I can literally sing the entire parts on guitar (lead & bass), and despite being a lead guitarist myself, I feel Mr. Myung is the heart of this song.
don't get me wrong but portnoy was Alot more feel and groove oriented than mangini is ... songs like this are played with so much feel.. which doesn't mean that mangini is lesser of a drummer but iron Mike portnoy was such a huge part of the groove in dream theater
+jeff cordova Man I have got to agree with you. Have you already seen this song in their new Dvd with Mangini on Drums? There you can see how better Portnoy is. He plays like he feels the song and more groove oriented as you said. I hope seeing him again in DT.
Mmm, I'd say it does mean Mangini is lesser of a drummer. Portnoy nailed it in every area. Is Mangini maybe a little bit faster? Maybe, but when you're as technically skilled as either of these guys it's like saying "Well Russia has 13,000 nukes and the US only has like 9,000" ... it doesn't really matter at that level. Portnoy is better at everything else.
@@stephenm.1988 oh please, you dont get to decide that. Imo Mangini has lots of feel. Dream theater is my favourite band of all times and i have to say even when this song is always great, definitely this is the best live version of this song so far
I'm smoking a cigg at work which I rarely do but it's raining not heavily like it usually does but listening to this while watching the rain fall down ....makes you really appreciate the beauty of life & the magic music captures...."I may have wasted all those years, but their worth their time in tears, I may have spent too long in darkness in the warmth of my fears" words i live by ...
This is one of those cases where the live version sounds better than the studio one. The transition from the climatic intensity of the end of the keyboard solo to the quiet ending part gives, and will always give me, chills every single time I hear it. So much better than than how the studio version sounds.
He repasado 7 discos the dream theater buscando esta canción por dios. He tenido esta melodía, esta entradilla 01:27 en la cabeza dándome vueltas durante casi una seman. ¡Por fin! --- I´ve gone over 7 albums looking for this song, omg. Had this melody 01:27 calling me loud for almost a week now. Finally!
Phenomenal song, and great performance. Apparently from what I have heard, this song is part of the setlist for their Along for the Ride Tour. Can't wait to see them again and hear this song live for the first time (assuming they don't change up the setlist)
Cool how Dream Theater has gone from hair to no hair to BIG hair, to blue hair..to new members and has been always awesome. The only outlier is John Myung. He's always been awesome and has not ever changed his appearance.
The solo is influenced a lot by that of 'in the dead of night'' by the british prog rock band with the name UK. All I hear is "Holdsworthian" lines. Great song, amazing solo by Petrucci, paying tribute to the one and only Allan Holdsworth.
Everytime when we compare Mangini to Portnoy , let's not bash Mangini . He is doing his best in his life and he does with full dedication. Portnoy and Mangini are associated with DT forever but they two are two different talents. While auditioning, Mangini Clearly said that he is not here to replace any one. He wants to show his own talent and do what he's best at. Mangini's playing style might not please your ears always. That's what the thing is. No two people can sing or play alike. Let's praise him for doing his job with DT instead of bashing him.
Millosh- I never thought of that one, but you're right. For me the intro reminds me a little bit of Shine On... by Pink Floyd, especially the live version from a Delicate Sound of Thunder. Cheers!
Both the intro and the ending where clearly inspired by Rush's Xanadu. But the bass line during the solo reminds me of Heart of the Sunrise as well, even though, because of the long pauses Petrucci does in his solo, UK's In the Dead of Night is what usually comes to mind when I hear it.
@jeroginaca music for all kind of people is made nowadays by Killers, 30 Seconds to mars etc etc !! Progressive is one unique kind of music, as many others! 15 times? Holy fuc
15 times? Damn lucky. Been a fan since mid 00s and my first would be last year but got robbed by Covid.
Absolutely agree 100% This is peak Dream Theater.
Seeing them play the entire Metropolis Pt 2 and Images and Words albums live is hard to beat tbh
I don't understand people who say they're washed now. They sound fantastic.
One of their greatest tracks. I'm probably in the minority of DT fans, but I loved Falling Into Infinity. It has at least three of their best ever compositions IMHO.
New Millennium, Peruvian skies, Hell's Kitchen, Hollow Years, Trial of Tears, Lines in the Sand
@@malawigw correct, with Lines in the Sand being my favourite. It's actually in my top five DT tracks ever.
I prefer FII over SFAM, I might be in a very small minority.

Falling into Infinity is some of their best work IMO. I’m a huge Petrucci fan and his tone was sooooooo damn good then. Its one of their hidden gems for sure.
The bass is so prominent in the mix; to which I give great approval.
+Jordan Shepherd This is a John Myung song, you know hahaha
Sonic Salies I didn’t know thank you! Oh I love this guy’s playing
Awesome bass lines
John Myung, the hardest working progressive bassist out there!
A little too prominent during the guitar solo tbh
Most underrated DT album. I love it.
crazy album! reminds me of Liquid Tension.

on point.

This one's my favorite, because it's with Mike Portnoy !
Couldn't agree more with the OP. Best song, best live performance, just amazing.
The version of Opera Boston is bullshit.
In the arena of prog rock/metal there is absolutely no one who can touch these guys. Fan when I was 12, fan when I die!

Vivek Viswanath I mean Myung is the master of all bass techniques. He can play anything!
Definitely agree!
What about Swahili tribal rain dance bass?
One of the best solos of all time
DT is just for people who can apreciate good music. People who can't just get bored.
The section and solo starting at 7:00 is a huge nod to In the Dead of Night by UK with the legendary solo by Allan Holdsworth
Have you heard the youtube bootleg of a cover DT did of that tune? It's alright, though I surprisingly prefer the Yngwie Malmsteen band cover
I wish I could have seen them on this tour. My first DT show was in 2007, Chaos in Motion tour, 4th row in Chicago. Was an unbelievable time!
"but I'll enjoy the ride today" damn those lyrics are beautiful, they should let Myung write more songs
I wish Myung had soloed more often!
lets not Forget the amazing intros in Voices and Scarred, i love both those bass lines
storeeteller1 he only write 7 songs with bass solo....he needs to solo more often just like petrucci
@storeeteller1 bass intro = solo?😂
Their debut album has a bass solo every other song.
I was high while watching this and I can now say that I saw them as what they really are. True Gods of music. I feel hapy just hapy.
