Nice almost dark brooding mood and spectrum with these jazzy/proggy/ethereal songs, really lots of emotion and feeling put into "Hell's Kitchen" and "Lines in the Sand". John Petrucci at his best. Listening to this after years reminds me how much Derek was a bonus to the band. The "wizzard" Rudess is boring (though a pure technical monster). Derek was playing with soul and character. Miss this period of DT

    • @revylokesh1783
      @revylokesh1783 7 лет назад +15

      Alex. F. I agree on JR. Technicality does NOT trump all. Derek and Kevin actually knew WHAT to play, not only HOW to play. All JR does is legato runs unisono or in harmony with JP. Kevin Moore especially knew how to COMPLEMENT Petrucci's playing.

      Yeah no, these were NOT married by DT. They were forced together by Kevin Shirley

    Its amazing at the time how much I disliked this album... coming off Awake and Change of Seasons I thought this album was terrible. By comparison to their recent (especially post-Portnoy) material, this album has aged exceptionally well. While disconnected from much of their other material of the period, it still has something the newer albums seem to lack, passion. There's a feeling to every note in this song, while today's stuff feels phoned in. Very lackluster album back then, that's aged incredibly well. Probably one of my favorites today.

      +Don't Touch Me its not the same because john petrucci is doing what he wants, and all the other are somewhat happy with that... except us, the fans.

      I hate the asshole. Yes, he is a very good drummer but he is a narcissist and a crybaby. He boo hoo's every time someone hurts his feelings, and he begs fans to vote for him in poles. Neil Peart would NEVER do stuff like that.

    4.20-5.20 sounds like soundtrack to Blade Runner or some 80's sci fi, and some Pink Floyd sounds....
