Playing Drums, singing and fixing the in-ear monitoring at the same time. Hats Off Mr. Portnoy

@@edzeljereza8234 Mr Portnoy ?
You mean the one and only *Mike Portnoy* ?
You say Mike Portnoy is playing the drums, here? A WHOLE SONG all in 4/4 ?
It's *not possible* mate : Mike Portnoy cannot stand to stay in 4/4 signature more than 4 bars.
Everyone know that.
No matter what band you have on your t-shirt, if they play Comfortably Numb, you shut, listen and enjoy.
Completely agree - mesmerising to watch, such a great track played amazingly
I’m usually against anybody covering Floyd songs, but this was done very well.
@Cletus Anfernee Jackson is that why bumblefoot shits all over Gilmour?
Right on
So True!!!! National Anthem
PINK FLOYD is the best over the best for me since 45 yrs. And never heard a better cover yet. Awesome!!!.
Cool to see Billy Sheehan and the other stars keeping up to themselves and not overplaying - it shows how much they respect Pink Floyd.
did you not hear Bumblefoots solo? lol.. it was amazing but he overplayed the shit out of that.
@@KalosPVP The rest of the band is giving plenty of room for Bumblefoot to shred as the guitar solo will always be the climax of Comfortably Numb. But you don't get to hear Portnoy doing double bass triplets or Billy Sheehan tapping at 200 BPM nor using his signature overdrive thick bass tone.
Mike Portnoy even respects Nick Mason out of all drummers
@@KalosPVP totally did, based it well to start with on DG's solo, then after that he couldn't even continue the same style to complete it. I guess you can only mimic someone else's emotions to a point, after that it becomes clear that you don't have the same feeling.
And it points to their skill and years of experience ! they played this just right ! cool calm collected and laid-back! ( perfect )👏👍✌️❤️
That is probably the best version of that I've heard that wasn't played by David Gilmour. Bravo gents, that was bloody magnificent.
totally agree!
indeed & it was as least as good as the roger water's version i heard a couple of years ago on his last australian tour 2018

NOT
existe otra versión tan espectacular de este tema, es de la banda Australiana Brit Floyd
Gilmour says he plays the first solo note for note, and the 1st half of the 2nd solo note for note, then improvises the 2nd half of the 2nd solo, playing what he feels. That's what happened here too! It's amazing! 😍
That solo can be played till the Eternity and still won’t be enough.
AMEN ! + 1000
Never is enough
That is true.
The solo of high hopes wants to know your location!
And still gives me chills every time I hear the first notes.
Just love the way they don't attempt to improve on what can't be improved. They play it just as it is supposed to be played.
That’s why he melodically shredded gilmour off the planet with that solo
@@MrBiteme39 yes, he didn't try to improve the solo after the original ended. And he sure didn't improve it with that end rubbish. It would have taken talent he does not possess to extend the solo in the same style that the song required.
@@MrBiteme39 nobody puts Dave in the corner...
@@bennoakes2477 I'm not a shredder fan but I enjoyed it.
@@bennoakes2477 well everyone except you seems to agree that the end solo was pretty fucking badass
This is my first time hearing this band and I'm totally floored by this performance of the sweetest guitar solo ever. Ucking fawesome guys.
Dear Sons of Apollo, can you please thank Mr. Bumblefoot for playing the leads to perfection and to the original spirit of the song. He didn't make it crazy odd or over-the-top, just plain and simply great. I appreciated his interpretation as well as the rest of the band. Spot on gentlemen, spot on.
He didn't feel the need to sacrifice the familiar, beloved solo in order to make himself look good or anything, and that's commendable- he could easily have played totally different stuff but up to where the song would normally fade out, he did it note for note then added extra to the coda; I applaud him for his restraint and faithfulness
The guy has nothing to prove. And the ability and maturity to play a technically upgraded solo that remains in the spirit of the original.
Well he still added some of his own 7:32
@@bertsonder Yeah I think that little bit he added by the near end was unnecesary.
Did you not hear the 2nd half of the solo? Original spirit of the song replaced by crazy overplaying. It was still good, but it could have been great like the rest.
Amazing solo from Ron. One of the best players alive and so under recognized. Respected the great melodic phrases and then added his crazyness at the perfect time.
Yep Mike truly found another Petrucci in Thal. I digged him in Guns N' Roses but his talent was a little wasted in a glam rock band. Fantastic player.
yes, he is good, but when i listen to original, Gilmore makes me cry, without a bit of shreding.
@@chegavara67 literally no one asked
@@chegavara67 another blues boy who cries when someone plays with any kind of technical ability..Go listen to some BB if you can't handle it
@@axkmster You're funny guy. I play for 30 years now, For sure i've never been a blues player... Over the years, my perception of music has drasticly changed. Shred tells me musically absolutely nothing. It yust shows me motorical abbilities..... Sorry if i hurt your shredders pride. Modern rock has become a competition, who can play more notes in a single interval....
Without a doubt the best version I've seen. It included the iconic solo almost untouched, then he let himself go but always respectfull to the original. Very emotional and flawless
That's how I see it too - note for note perfect on the original solo and then adding his own spin to it.
Some of the best musicians of this planet, playing one of the best song ever written, what to say ? And Ron Thal, bloody hell ...
This song is more than just a music. Its a message for generations
Definitely
Sure!! A song that will last forever.. Life is out there, I'd rather face it and let it hurt than feel nothing
The song this more than just a music is. For generations is message it.
You know that it is about how Roger felt after a doctor had to inject him with a sedative before one of the shows since he was coked out of his mind and couldn’t perform, and the lyrics are basically describing the sedative-induced haziness after drug use? What message could it possibly have?
It’s a musical miracle, and has a wonderful mood, and probably the best guitar solo in the existence. I love this song, heck I even play it myself, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying it has a message for generations.
@@Alpysf Well, he talks about his childhood, and I think he is trying to get back that sense of lost wonder about the world or at least numb away the pain of it.
That solo.. respectfully nailed it
Nothing respectful about it at all. The thing that made Pink Floyd, and Gilmour so unique was lost in this version, the solos they do serve the songs, not Gilmour's ego. The guy in this video does it as a self-serving measure, as is the case with many of these musicians. You folk lap up any old shit.
@@profbawbag6604you are wrong. This guy and the whole band are perfectly respectful to the song. You sound like you could do better. Please post your videos big shot.
@@Rrronniedee Not about what i can and can't do. I can't make cars, but i can still complain about whether a car is good or bad. Your logic is nonsense. The guy overcooks the solo. If you know anything about Pink Floyd at all, you know the guitar solos serve the songs, not the guitarist. The guy in this video using the solo as a self-serving solo. Something Gilmour never did/does. Listen to some PF and get back to me. You obviously know nothing about them outside of watching this nonsense in the above video. In a nutshell: Gilmour is not a "oh, look at me" guitarist, yet this guy is. Missing the entire point of what made PF great. You obviously don't get it. That's ok, you just like modern self-serving musicians.

Absolutely the Best cover , the final a solo is powerful and well played. Impressive
Mike always manages to find the right players to cover his favs. Very nice rendition.
The guitarist meshed his modern chops with this classic very respectfully, in my opinion.
Yes it’s Ron Thal, one of the best players on our planet
In full Ron Bumblefoot Thal
In full Ron bumblfoot Rosenthal !!
That's the only thing I don't like about this performance...
Not bad, although this kind of shredding solo does not fit that well this song. Still pretty enjoyable anyway.
Mike’s raw talent and drum set up have always been every drummers dream.
Bumblefoot is phenomenal! This solo touches everyone's soul!
Absolutely true ❤
💯
That outro solo was phenomenal and shows how smart of a guitarist Ron is. He could set the fretboard on fire if he wanted to, but he knows the value of a simple and effective melody too. The result in that solo was a brilliant emulation of the style of the original song with just enough of his own touches and flashes of skill to make it unique without overpowering it.
The genius of Pink Floyd... timeless. The restraint with so many monster musicians is so appreciated. Wonderful...

Incredible Solo! What a cover. Easily one of the best covers .
Good guitar player, but the solo sucked big time imo. Especially the dumb and unecessary shredding shows that he is nowhere close to David Gilmour.
@@Anaximander29A in fact it sounds ten times better than the original one, this way...What you want to say is that Gilmour can't play second part of the solo like Ron...it's ok...the song is a music legend anyway...
@@Anaximander29A you absolute moron, stupid boomer...
@@Anaximander29A Your opinion sucks. He could easily play it just like Gilmour, but there's no excitement for him in doing that so he adds his own touch of shred to keep it fresh and interesting and to make it his own. I'm sick of you melodic solo gatekeepers that think any bit of technical ability and speed instantly means bad. I appreciate all styles and speeds of guitar playing and this was goddamn beautiful to me, to each their own I guess.
@@lumpy9964 I guess I was a bit too harsh with "that solo sucked big time"... I just don't like it that much. But it's definitely not as good as Gilmour on the Pulse live show. "He could easily play it just like Gilmour, but there's no excitement for him in doing that.." If that is true than this just shows that something is fundamentally wrong with this guitar player. 1. It's about the music, not about the musician's ego, 2. the arc of suspense and phrasing in the said live version from Pink Floyd is insane, if there would be no excitement in it for him than he wouldn't understand a whole lot about music. But seriously I doubt that. I bet that he knows he can't play it quite as good as Gilmore and the shred was definitely just a fan service for all you nerds. I am absolutely not against "technical" playing, but if someone does it just for the sake of it then it sounds absolutely cringe to me.
What a treat! Not only did they stay true to the song and sing it fantastically, they extended the ending with Ron’s incomparable style.

Brit Floyd is basically Pinky reincarnate. Saw em at an outdoor show last year with 10,000 people. PHENOMENAL. No doubt David's version on Pulse is the ultimate, many try but very few succeed in covering this musical masterpiece, but this is as close to perfection as you can get!
I agree with your comment about the Pulse version. It is my favorite of my favorite song. This one is the best of the non Gilmour attempts that I have heard. It's different and there is a lot of shredding, but you never get lost in what song your hearing. I enjoyed the energy and obvious talent of the band and especially the guitar player.
Nah man its all about that sound of thunder
Now check the one in Pompeii and weep
I feared there would be a lot of lost feeling when they hit the ending solo, the effects, the tapping, etc ... but I got to say I was pleasantly surprised. He stayed true to the writing of Gilmour right through until the extended play and really did a masterful job of seamlessly transitioning into his own style and making the remainder of the song his own. Great job with the effects too in keeping it all nice and clean. I think Gilmour would give a wink, nod, and a smile to this performance.
Well said - totally agree👌🏻
