John starts mentioning how black sabbath was a huge influence starting out. Then Mike mentions zeppelin, Beatles and the who as huge starting influences. Then comes Jordan with twinkle twinkle little star. Dream Theater rules.
Twinkle twinkle at 2 years old! And yea …
Sabbath, Zepplin, Beatles, Rush…….
Bach prelude in C 😂 and then improvised that at 9 for Juilliard.. Jesus
you forgot to mention how he improvise that twinkle-twinkle little 'theater' 🤣
Prepping a piece for Julliard at 9. Nice.
AND THEN, he says "I figured out Twinkle, Twinkle in second grade just by walking up to a piano..."
AND THEN he plays the most simple childlike plinking FOLLOWED BY A JAZZ/CLASSICAL IMPROV...nobody but HIM could play!!!!
I TOTALLY hate that guy, but in the most respectful admiring way possible!!!!
Jesus Jordan, cut us some slack bro...🙃
Improvising at 9 is even nicer ;).
There’s a few kids that go to Julliard , yes, it’s not like a college
how common 😂
Jordan going "I haven't played this in maybe 50 years..." and then straight up shredding Light My Fire is still stunning even after seeing the original video.
And he does it faster than Ray Manzerak does, still an absolute banger
I remember seeing Petrucci and Myung's band Centurion play at my school, Park View Elementary in Kings Park. It's probably 40 years ago, but i remember a Rush tune, Maiden tune, and maybe something from Boston? I want to say Tom Sawyer and The Trooper were two of the songs.
When you start diving into the brilliance of Jordan Rudess is when you reallize what a mad wizard at the keyboard he really is.
The best part of this is no Myung. I can imagine the conversation. "John will you do this favorite riffs thing for us ?" "No." 🤭
6:39 I went into Juliard, said we'd get together soon...
FEELING GOOD THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Who is geeked up to hear the new Portnoy infused collab again!!?
Jordan "Then I began improvising" lol
Before today I never knew how badly I need a keyboard shed in my life but here we are.
jordan rudess learns twinkle twinkle little star..the whole universe went supernova..lol
The inspiration talking about their inspiration
John Myung does not appear in this video. However, all the musicians that are Dream theatre are extremely talented and work so well together. And the universe is so lucky they all came together. What we have right now, IMO, is one of the greatest bands (technically synced on the musical level and mutual respect), in the 21st century.
Mutual respect being friendship!
I am still waiting for Myung!
I've already watched these so many times but I watched again and loved it again. Plz do the Dream Theater videos often😍
notice no John Myung influences? that's a true bawss
"I haven't played this in probably 50 years." Then casually busts out LIght My Fire without even thinking about it....
TBF he looks like hes reading it.
@@DavidOakesMusic That is entirely possible.
Jordan Rudess is a badass keys player dayum
He's like a mad professor.
People who play half as well as he can are still considered great pianists. That's how good he is.
That whole video of him playing stuff is mesmerizing.
Dropping Charlie Benante as in influence made my day. Hes my favorite drummer
They all look like wizards.
So this is just 3 old videos mashed up here. cool.
Jordan picking Twinkle Twinkle is very wholesome.
I love watching these guys play!
But it felt incomplete without Myung.
If you can capture him on video saying more than 3 words it's a miracle.
"There is a bass solo in metropolis where i do a bass solo"
- John Myung
Aren't you forgetting someone else? 🙃
Well there are only three members of DT who get any say in anything. They consider themselves the only ones to matter it seems.
Pedazo musicos, Petrucci y Portnoy insuperables, no consigo encontrar nada que me llene mas. Eskerrik asko!!!
What is it that John uses to sound doubletracked all the time? The TCE Doubler?
Where did Jordan go to school at? He never mentioned…
Wait, Ive seen the MP and JR videos before. This is just a compilation.
14:12 i recognize that part from Highway Star, great song!
This is crazy how much talent contains this one band. So sad that James LaBrie sounds worse and worse because he used to be as badass as the rest of the band.
I love you guys. You're my heroes. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Jordan Rudess' piano playing is phenomenal!
Is it me, or are Mike Portnoy's drumsticks particularly long ? Every time it switches to him, it distracts me from whatever he's saying or what he plays.
Yes they are slightly longer than average and he also holds them very far back which makes them appear even longer
You forgot the bass player
Where is James Labrie?
Intro song: Ethan Meixsell - Demilitarized Zone
John Myung might be secretly making sheets for that song while not in this video.
Will any other band ever be at this almost inhuman level. Answer: Resounding NO!
Let's go!
Julliard Julliard Julliard he keeps bragging about that everywhere not only here... if it wasn't for DT he would be still there selling keyboards...
loudwire fell off
only 5 views after 2 seconds
😭
After watching a few minutes of this you figure out that these guys can literally play ANYTHING!!!! Love it!!!!
Except Portnoy with Mangini parts 😂
Cannot wait for the next record.
Somehow the favorite parts of these guys does not match with fan's favorites. Like the ending of Scarred, the beggining of 6DoIT or the middle dramatic part in Metropolis Pt 1.
What killer drummer love it
100% agree, but I don't like the way he plays the intro to "When the Levee breaks."
It isn't very Bonham-like. I don't think Bonham dragged the snare during it either.
Where is John Myung 😅
Le falta años luz para llegar al nivel de Mike Mangini
6:00 o’clock 😳
MP is sloppy AF
Only of course Jordan of course heard twinkle twinkle… at 2yo .. went find the notes and then improvised on it … at 2 yo….
And he remembers that.
Intro song: Ethan Meixsell - Demilitarized Zone
John Myung might be secretly making sheets for that song while not in this video.
I didn't expect to hear Mike bring up De La Soul. That makes me happy~
I can’t think of any musician like Jordan Rudess. In any instrument.
Lol Loudwire throwing shade at Ringo by not putting his name up there.
Use a fracking microphone!!! omg....
DT4EVER
Still waiting here for Myung
Isnt this a reupload, i feel like ive watched it before
It looks like it's a compilation of their individual videos they did playing their favourite parts on this channel.
It is, you can tell by Jordan's hair that it was filmed during the covid lockdown
Can't wait for their 40th anniversary tour!
Intro song: Ethan Meixsell - Demilitarized Zone
John Myung might be secretly making sheets for that song while not in this video.
They all look like wizards now. Which they are

Why do John Petrucci and Jared Dines sound the same?
The gods' are coming back!!!
Jordan tends to overplay.
No favorite bass parts.???
Where’s John myung tho
skipping to all the mp sections
Where is the the John?
Light my fire 🔥🔥🔥
thanks!
Where TF is John Myung?????
Gone, reduced to atoms
Amazing
Does John have marker on his knees?
Portnoy sucks
Cry
Yeah, okay.
