Fellow NJ trooper here. I carry ONE GUN as a civilian, just as I did in uniform, on patrol, for 29 years and 2 months (32 years total). My EDC is a Ruger Max-9; as I said, it’s the only gun I carry .. no weekly or monthly “switching it up” bc I wanna know that weapon like I know my kids. I will never, ever, use a light, red dot nor external safety on my Ruger bc in a real life situation, the “unholy trinity” will be USELESS. Great video sir! It shows when a true professional chimes in on a EDC tutorial.. top notch and VERY INFORMATIVE.
Mr Trooper, there is nothing wrong with a gun light. Now, I haven't gotten into an optic on a pistol yet, I think that the factory sights are good enough.
As a retired cop that experienced three on duty shootings my choice in retirement is either a light weight J Frame revolver or the tiny .380 LCP in a pocket holster. My LCP carries better in dress slacks and the revolver when in jeans & a sweatshirt.
I'm guessing you aren't expecting to be involved in anymore shootings? With that choice of your everyday carry? Times are getting worse right now..not better!
Great video. If you’d like to carry a semiauto capable of making contact shots without the risk of its being pushed out of battery, carry a WML that extends sufficiently beyond the muzzle, or carry a Muzzle Stand-off Device or the like. Modern ammunition, including solid, fluted projectiles or tumbling ones such as TUIs, has now surpassed HPs ballistically and does not clog up (like HPs can) or overpenetrate in testing. MTG, tell me you had a P7M13 (or M8?) during your NJSP days _and kept it._
I carry critical. Hope you can do a video on where you can and can't carry ie: everyday like target, walmart, wawa, a golf course, McDonald's etc... ( we know we can't carry at any government or restaurant serving alcohol).
I’ve got an unrelated question. As a former trooper what are your thoughts on ccw permits for non police personal ? I have been told they frown upon it. Juat interested in your thoughts.
Excellent presentation, continuous upgrades is key and expensive. Going from S & W to Sig Sauer and last Staccato CS and its holsters has been financially challenging, but worth it, thanks for sharing.
You're welcome and thank you! The sneaky pete holsters seem to fit the statutory requirements to me. They securely retain the handgun, conceal and protect the main body of the firearm, maintain the firearm in a consistent and accessible position, and render the trigger covered and inaccessible while the handgun is fully seated in the holster.
So far, NJ has not allowed hollow point ammo for RPO individuals. If you carry under LEOSA, you can carry hollow point per a recent court decision. This decision was appealed by NJ and is pending. You can always carry polymer filled ammo like Hornady Critical Defense in the interim.
If you have a CCW Permit in NJ, does that allow you to carry in other states? I know PA will issue an Out of state Permit to NJ CCW Permit Holders. Thanks in advance.
A carry permit in NJ is only good for NJ. However, some states make it easier to get a non-resident carry permit (in their state) when you present a NJ carry permit. For example, in PA, if you present a NJ carry permit and pay a nominal fee ($20, I think), within about a week you will have a carry permit in PA.

Mr Martell, could you please explain the problems that the NJ Troopers were having with the HK squeeze cocker pistols a few years ago.

My normal edc is a staccato c2. In hot months where it is hard to conceal I go 43xmos.
I also carry a Staccato C2 in the winter and for better concealment I carry my Sig p365 spectre comp
my 2 best edc are P365 and Beretta APX carry both 9mm
Fantastic and comprehensive video. You’ve imparted great wisdom here, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video brother, it helped my doubts with carrying the Hornady Critical Defense ammo in NJ. Thank you 🙂
Thanks!
Steve as always very informative !! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it

43x mos with EPS carry red dot. And sure fire light. Werks holster
Listen to the man and ditch the “cool” light & red dot bc u will never use it in real life.
Same setup with the werks holster minus the sure fire light
Great video. I typically carry my s&w m&p 9m 2.0 spec series and at times I'll swap to my springfield xdm compact .45.
Thank you!

Thank you sir 🙏
Most welcome

Who’s “they” when u say “they frown upon it” and who told you this?
As a former police officer and detective why would they frown upon it??? Every law-abiding citizen has the same rights to self defense do they not???
@@kevinrichardson8859 who are you asking that of?

What do you think about the sneaky pete holsters and are they considered concealed carry in NJ. Great videos thanks for all the great information

What did you think of the H&K P7M8 when you carried it? I remember it was a pretty big deal when NJSP adopted it.
I thought judge baum was suppose to address the places to carry that this other judge temporarily changed? Did this already happen & inmissed it?
Best video yet
Now work on your lighting
Appreciate the comments!
I have an RPO in New Jersey. Can I use hollow point ammunition?
