- Land of the Giants TV show information:
Land of the Giants is an hour-long American science fiction television program lasting two seasons beginning on September 22, 1968 and ending on March 22, 1970. The show was created and produced by Irwin Allen. Land of the Giants was the fourth of Allen's science fiction TV series. The show was aired on ABC and released by 20th Century Fox Television. The series was filmed entirely in colour and ran for 51 episodes. The show starred Gary Conway and Don Marshall. Author Murray Leinster also wrote three novels in 1968 and 1969 based on the television series.
John Williams information:
John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning over six decades, Williams has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, including Jaws, the Star Wars series, Superman, the Indiana Jones series, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and the first three Harry Potter films. Williams has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for the majority of his feature films.[
Other notable works by Williams include theme music for the Olympic Games, NBC Sunday Night Football, the 2011 film The Adventures of Tintin, the television series Lost in Space and Land of the Giants and the original theme song to Gilligan's Island. Williams has composed numerous classical concerti and other works for orchestral ensembles and solo instruments; he served as the Boston Pops' principal conductor from 1980 to 1993 and is now the orchestra's laureate conductor.
Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards and 22 Grammy Awards. With 50 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. In 2005, the American Film Institute selected Williams' score to 1977's Star Wars as the greatest American film score of all time. Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl's Hall of Fame in 2000 and was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004. Williams will receive the 2016 AFI Life Achievement Award. Williams composed the score for eight movies in the Top 20 highest grossing films at the U.S. box office (adjusted for inflation).
John Williams is the greatest composer alive in all his work
He's a Legend!👍👍
Man, the dude made us believe in everything from giants to wizards.
No not the greatest composer.
Fred Karlin, George Dunning, Jerry Goldsmith, Dominic Frontiere and others on same level.
God.. listen to those awesome trumpets!!! 🎺 🎶 I became obsessed and learned how to play thanks to the kick ass TV themes of the 60s, 70s and 80s! They don’t make them like this any more!!
I grew up on this stuff. Also really good is the Lost in Space Season 3 theme. ruclips.net/video/vBegeVsA48k/видео.html. John Williams making his mark as a young TV theme composer!
I taught myself how to play the 2nd season theme song on the trumpet! The symphonic version on RUclips is my go to feel good song. The bass is out of this world
Great music back then. Modern kids wouldn't even know what to think
John Williams had this habit of doing a great job on his season 1 themes and then totally nailing the season 2 versions. Land of the Giants (this version) and Lost in Space (countdown version) are better than the originals.
Definitely an arguable opinion...but one with which I fully agree! Lol! :-)
btw - Off topic, but did you notice that in the credits for lost in space he's listed as "Johnny Williams"??? I still get a kick out of how that highlights how early it was in his career!
..The Time Tunnel...Gilligan's Island...
I totally agree!
Never got a second season of Time Tunnel.
i couldnt agree more
This theme is beyond classic
Outstanding piece of music for a show that was gone too soon. Don Marshall gone but not forgotten here in 2019.
Don Novicki---Sorry to hear that. I met him years ago at a comic con show and he was really cool. We talked about LOTG, LIS, and TTT! He told me that Irwin never made a final episode for any of those shows. That is, where the little people get off the giant planet, the Jupiter 2 finds or Alpha Centuri or gets back to earth, and the time travelers make it back to their own time. I told him I seen a VHS tape on ebay where the time travelers did come back to the present day. It never got aired. RIP Don!
Don Marshall was also in ST: TOS.
@@Tazzman225 wait - a Time Tunnel episode where "Doug & Tony" make it back to 1967? That sounds like the apocryphal "lost episode" of The Fugitive where Lt. Gerard removes his prosthetic arm & admits he killed Kimble's wife!
REST IN PEACE, DEANNA LUND
JOHN WILLIAMS..MAGNIFICENT..
This theme song just never gets old. Still sounds outstanding in 2017. THX !
That's the genius of John Williams!
Well, here it is 2022 and it still sounds outstanding. How about that!
They should record a remake . The year could be 2083 ! Land of the giants it´s sick !
I agree. This show screams for a reboot. With up to date special effects this and a Time Tunnel remake would be great.
Rest In Peace Don Marshall.
Best instrumental intro for a tv series EVER!!
Scott Manns---you could be in the other room and hear this song and come running in to see what show it was being used on. That is what you call a great instrumental! The Green Hornet them was another one.
Lost In Space 3rd season theme opening.....MASTERPIECE!!!
My childhood growing up in the 80’s all I watched was this on Sundays. Take me back please!
Great theme song. Bad kitty!!!!
Adorava esse seriado não perdia por nada marcou época, quando eu era moleque, quando passava esse TEMA DE ABERTURA, NOSSA EU FICAVA ELÉTRICO PULANDO NA SALA , NA FRENTE DA TV , QUE SAUDADES DO MEU TEMPO DE CRIANÇA, BONS TEMPOS QUE NÃO VOLTAM NUNCA MAIS PURA NOSTALGIA , COMO TEMPO & OS ANOS PASSAM A VIDA É UM SOPRO !!! HOJE JÁ ESTOU COM 57 PARA 58 ANOS !!! 01-01-2024 !!!
My favorite TV series then and now.
The first season music theme was incredible but this is even better
Yes, I do agree with you.
Rest in Peace, Don Marshall.
Just heard ,really sad !!! I looked him up while watching LOTG Saturday night and thought,I'm glad he's still with us !!!
Don acted very well in the Star Trek episode - 'The Galileo 7'. He would have made a very good senior crew member. He did have real acting ability - sadly under utilised.
I wanted to meet him badly . I'd hope they would A& E Biography on him .
We can't forget Kurt Kusnar . He died in 1979 ,as far as i know .
@ The only other place I remember seeing him was in the movie musical "Kiss Me Kate" (which happens to have been produced in 3D!) It's pretty obvious the only reason he was in this show was to be its "Dr. Smith" a la Jonathan Harris in "Lost in Space"
Irwin Allen/John Williams had the best TV show theme songs of the 1960's. Hands-down.
John Williams at his very best!!!
The color graphics were ahead of their time for 68.
Não perdia por nada esse seriado marcou minha infância e também marcou época bons tempos !!!!
Rest in Peace, Deanna Lund.
Didnt know she passed . She played Valerie Scott .
Is she died ? I didn't know that . How did you know about it ?
Dynamic second season theme by Williams and the clip with the cat and the flying money is legendary. A fave show for me as a kid. And a lot of it had to do with the music.
this was the best theme of the years!
I like this main theme so much.
I always thought this programme was in B&W. It wasn't until much later that I realised it was because we only had a B&W tv set... D'oh!
Alexandra Abraham----I know what you mean. My father used to floor model color tv for his shows while us kids used the smaller b/w model and I grew up thinking some shows were in b/w.
THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE INTO A FILM IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLOCK BUSTER AT THE CINEMA'S 👽👽👽
So many great themes for all these shows that were out during the time...I really miss all that good stuff...
Ahead of it's time this series, one of my favourite shows growing up and still is. They definitely don't make shows like this anymore. It's defo screaming for a film feature or a update series but known hollywood they will butcher it in this day and age.
I agree it definitely needs a movie or even better TV show hope they would get it right though and not make a mess of it like they did with lost in space
Timeless!... it was a cool TV series back then and it always will be! 👍
Opinião democrática!!!
Terra de Gigantes, fez parte da mi há adolescência. Ñ perdi a um episódio. Abraços a todos
To have this intelligence and lung power to pull this magical childrens programme theme tune is to say the least majestic,it was great growing up,but I appreciate the music now.
John Williams was a MAD SCIENTIST !!!!!!
I just love the cat😂
Um tempo que não volta mais! Meu Deus, até os temas de abertura eram fantásticos!!!
In the actual episode itself, that cat is made to sound like a tiger! In the advert, it is meowing but in the real episode, it is roaring.
I'm sorry it got cancelled after 2 series. It would have been nice to see them get back home
classof73 Irwin always left his crews stranded
Same with Lost in space and the time tunnel., I guess the crew of the Seaview made it back to port safety in the final episode. @@ewaf88
Imagine they get back to Earth and discover they are still only a few inches tall. They find out their own kind are no different than the Giants. Except now it's not some evil government capturing them but average people who find them and take them home. They end up as pets and family playthings.
John Williams went 2 the same high school as I did.
I only remember the theme music from season 1 really. Then heard this one watching this show on MeTV and didn't like it as much at first... but now I think it is better. Snappier and sounds 'bigger'. : ) Which reminds me, both of Williams' themes for Lost in Space were good too.
OUTSTANDING MARVELOUS THEME ! ! ! ! ! ! ! made me remember my Childhood ! ! ! ! ! ! Even though y was born in 1969
I think I prefer the 2nd season theme better. It's a tough choice. It's Williams, and all his work is great. Hey Johnny, give us a tune of 1:01 length. OK!No problem 😅
verry good happy much
Damn! I really miss actual television themes. Network wise, the themes are garbage or non-existent. At least streaming shows have brought the television theme back in to play.
Thank you for that mine same thought 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
La-La Land Records now sells a 4-CD set of music from Land of the Giants for $60. Great set if you like music from the series.
always thought they'd turn this into a movie ... guess 'honey i shrunk the kids' stole its thunder
would love an updated version of this show..so remarkable edge of your seat entertainment!!! C’mon Hollywood!!!
Modern Hollywood is lost. They would turn it into a soap opera, but with sex and more violence, then they'd push some anti American agenda.
Some things are better left alone.
I don't remember this theme at all but I remember the season 1 theme very well. Maybe we didn't get season 2 in the UK or perhaps it wasn't shown in my ITV district - there were a lot of separate regional companies making up ITV back then.
It sounds very similar to 3rd season Lost in Space theme.
Looks like John Williams have been making music since dinosaur era
This really cool
Coronavirus brought me here.....back to my childhood
When I first saw this show on the USA network, I thought the "little people" were aliens from another planet and that the "giants" were normal people on the planet earth.
The giant gopher... Irwin at his best.
The lighting on the shot is what makes it work so well - looks as if the light source on the gopher is the torch the guy is holding.
John Williams the composer of the 20th century
Sweet. 😎
I remember seeing the first episode as a little girl when I was 11. When the giant car passed over them I thought OMG what if the people in the car saw them?
cool , keep posing .
I'm in the minority I guess. I like the "Beep, bup, bop, bip. . . ." beginning of the 1st season theme. It sounds like someone looking all around and dodging back and forth evading the GiANTS. It's all Great work by Master John Williams. :)
Little Johhny Williams? Is that the same guy who did the theme from Checkmate?
Whatever happened to him? He seemed to have such promise.
He's sadly working in a kitchen Diner now cooking burgers - but it is alleged to have the best and most original live music in town
@@ewaf88 I thought I saw him working at the take out window at McDonald’s. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just remember it. I lived in a place I Nick named land of the giants. Everyone was taller both ways up and across.
I’m gettin’ me some beaver!
This is very like The Colbys
Watch it every Sunday (at 3 am!) on MeTV
I dream of all the IRWIN Allen theme to be rerecorded today in dolby athmos (And without sound effects!!!)
Land of the Giants from the Creator of Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and from the studio that gave us Daniel Boone, Nanny and the Professor, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis and Batman
Muito filé essa abertura da segunda temporada.
If they were in a Land of Giants or World of Giants How Come They Were The Same Cars as on Earth???
Well, that's easy to explai- SQUIRREL!
Theme shows a lot of minor similarities to second season Lost In Space theme...also, it makes my arm hairs stand up.
It was 3rd season LIS theme...
You need to train them better.
Liked this theme better than the first.
Bad ole puddy tat!
Sons da minha infância.
Lots of brass ( horns ) in his theme music.
Did you ever listen to this theme and then hear Amazing Stories immediately after. Same composer, no doubt!
It seems very influenced by Lost in Space. In fact, it would make a good B-side to LIS.
The themes for Land of the Giants and Amazing Stories are all by John Williams.
@@JAFludd EVERYTHING John Williams composes sounds the same!
epic!!!!!
The first version is better than the second version.
They should have made more of an effort to not have the other planet be exactly like earth in 1970. The cat and rat look pretty silly. I love the show and the John Williams music though.
One of the great TV themes. Pity about all the sounds overlaid on it. Shoot that cat for a start.
@Ezekiel P At least it's not John “Doe” Williams.
Anyone in 2020 listening?
2021!
@@tackyman2011 2023
Why'd you edit out the close-ups of the cast in the video?
MOVIE PLEASE!!!
Wondering why it only shows the title instead of where they have the cameos and names of the actors.
i suspect they were edited out in case there was any issue$ about using the actor's likenesses. (Although I seem to recall seeing this opening intact the first time I watched it here)
Why were the cast credits not included? Some copyright infringement?
Yes.
Wasn't it set in the year 1983?
Yes, the far-flung future of a show produced in the 1960s!
Does anyone know the name of this song?
I'm pretty sure it's called "Season 2 Theme to 'Land of the Giants.'"
You're welcome :-P
16 miseráveis deram deslike.
I have some idea for a episode
They meet a giant jungle girl and they meet other person from earth who have adopted giant kids and giant adopted a little person and obsessed giant girl in love of little person
Eu nem lembrava que Terra de Gigante tinha um tema. O tema não é conhecido por não ter melodia e é feio demais! Rsrsrs.
This is not bad, but the season 1 theme was epic.
I like the first season’s theme better. This one sounds at times like a theme for a crime drama.
dude your tone feaf sounds like an epic fanatsy sci fi! crime drama wtf?? lol
懐かしいですが、音楽だけで終わってしまい、つまらないです。本編が見たかった。(;;)
I liked lost in space theme song & voyage to the bottom of the sea but this land of the lost theme was horrible...
Land of the Lost? Sounds like you're in it.
Amazing ...until the huge cat ruined the shot.
This was, in my opinion, not an improvement from the original first season theme music.
This is not as good as the original theme for Land of the Giants
The show was an aimless mess, horrid writing. All the special effects in the world cannot save a series if it has no vision or focus.
Sad to say all irwin allen's shows were pretty much like that: interesting premises they pretty much squandered with juvenile scripts. (But they all had great show opening titles & music!)
Eu adorava esse seriado não perdia por nada marcou época , ai Que saudades da minha infância !!!
