I blast this 4x a week
I'm 63 yrs old and this is my favorite show growing up. I was so envious of Penny and Will living in space 💓
By all accounts both Angela Cartwright and Billy Mumy had a great time making the show.
Same here , made me love science fiction and future technology
I am 61 and love the show
@@williamjones4479 I didn't like it in the 1970s because it gave me headaches. I now realize that when I was 8, the 10 year old "Older kid" was simply turning up the volume on the television to painful proportions! I never hated Lost in Space, I always loved it, but it is a boon to watch it now, and realize I don't have to have the volume turned up to painful levels. At the same time, I'm 54 and my hearing is fading.... but it's not dead yet.
Me to
One of the greatest TV scores in TV history.
I'm so glad they played both back to back. There is a big difference.
This was so good that when I jumped up to applaud, I hurt my back.
Oh, the pain, the pain!!
You bubble headed buoy! Get over here and rub my aching back you bumbling bowl of bolts! 😁
@@bumsharvest5493 Bubble headed booby!
Yes, your delicate back!
@@Sennmut blame it all on that bubble headed booby.

Do you know , if theme of a television show can bring A tear to your eye and joy to your heart it was truly magical
Agreed!
Yeah it got me by the feels too

That’s John “Johnny” Williams for you!!
2nd version just kicks ass. My favorite show as a kid
Just too far back for me. Never saw it.
@@omegamale7880 You lost out. So sorry for you.
Mine too. Loved being home sick and watching reruns of these amazing shows on daytime TV (early 1970’s). Wish I was just a little older so I could’ve seen the original broadcasts at night on our huge 10” TV 😅
I was born when Season 3 was released.
Recovering from a back injury (at age 64) has given me the chance to watch all three seasons in less than a month. I can still remember watching the show in the 1960's as a young kid. We'd be outside playing and "drop everything" and run in to watch (7pm?). Some things never grow old.
Except, perhaps, us. 😉 62 here, and I know what you mean. Later, the show that caused us to rush home from school to get in front of the tube was Dark Shadows. 😏
I hope you're recovering well🙏
I can't get enough of the show or theme songs either!❤
Love the way the conductor is really getting into the second theme.
He did admit to being a geek 🤓
What a FABULOUS orchestra!
I attended a John Williams tribute at Powell Symphony Hall, St Louis back in 2008.
I was blown away.
In a few days I'll be sixty two, but right now I'm smiling like a kid again. This brings back such wonderful memories. Great renditions!
Happy 62th almost a year late, ill be 57 in two months and i know the feeling.
54 here...but smiling!...a current rendition that doesn't attempt to 'modernize'!...love it!
With better writing, what could it have been...?
I remember watching Lost in space...munching on Jiffy Pop popcorn
solovoyager 64! For 6 more months! I get to sing my Beatles song, When I’m 64! Everyday. Next year it’s obsolete. “If you don’t love me by now, you missed the train, folks!” I loved this Johnny Williams music!
The joy in the conductor's face when they swing into the 3rd season theme was such fun to see! He was really enjoying himself with this one!
Around 2:26, the conductor can no longer contain himself. He's having the time of his life, and he's going to let it show!
That's the "rock" phrase that they asked Williams to insert as a response to the hipper "Batman" theme. Looks like it worked.
It's within the definition of 'geek', which he admits to.
It was absolutely one of the best science fiction shows ever!
I don't care how corny or cheesy it got, it was so engaging and delightful.
@@brianwolters7560 The Time Tunnel was Terrific Too!!!!!
@@scottmiller6495 Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea!
Penny....
John Williams - what a treasure!
Mind blown. Doubley blown considering John Williams was knocking it out of the park in the late sixties and still does today, having just taken another oscar nom for Rise of Skywalker (hideous film) and in 2021 written a violin concerto
I literally get chills every time I hear this performance.
Purely superb. I’m feeling 10 years old again!!!
Lost in Space. Hawaii Five-O. Quantum Leap. There were some really great Theme Songs back in the day.
I just love how you can hear the low brass so clearly in the second theme. You could never really hear that and the full richness of the composition on my mother's cabinet TV set with aluminum foil on the rabbit ears.
When I was a kid, I remember watching Lost in Space instead of doing my homework. I think the time was better spent watching Lost in Space.
John Williams did Lost in Space? Didn't know that! Epic theme tune. Just beautiful.
Listen to this again and again awesome im 64
Idem, e eu, 61 anos
Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Highly Addictive Music Ahead! Danger!
Without a doubt, the best live renditions of BOTH Lost In Space themes I have ever heard! Fantastic arrangements, so faithful to the original! BRAVO!
i Totaly agree.
Me too! i wanted to find a nice recently recorded orchestral version of the classic themes (not like the weird dance remix thing from the 1998 movie) xD id love to hear a big cinematic arrangement on these Lost In Space themes like they did with the original star trek theme for the 2009 film. faithful to the original but with a modern production ^_^
Oh I agree. Fantastic on both. Well done.
I guess I have to disagree. While the first season theme is well done, the 3rd season theme as played here is much too slow and just feels clumsy. It just doesn't have the light spark of the original. The Cincinnati Pops could have done better.
Probably is the original !!!
I'm so glad they include the "countdown" portion of the the third season theme. Both are really well done but I never realized how much that 3rd season theme can swing! Outstanding work in this arrangement!
I remember the graphics of Season 3 opening so well! Amazing how seeing these brings you right back to that time.
There's something so bold about the intro to the second theme when the countdown appears on screen. It was a great, jarring transition from the cold open to the intro. It feels like four successive shots of adrenaline to pump you up for what's to come.
The first one is classic and fits the initial tone of a show titled "Lost in Space." It was more peril and intrigue than high adventure. The second theme has a heroic flair, a bit of tongue-in-cheek that fits the shows transition to color.
It also begins Williams's knack for nesting multiple themes into one. Star Wars, E.T., Raiders, Superman, and Harry Potter all had a variety of themes for the the same thing - not simply the use of leitmotif. I can't pick a favorite example, but the one that leaps out to me is Superman. In his main march there are two distinct and equally indelible and iconic themes. I've always wondered which one people would sing more if you randomly asked 100 people.
I strange that I found this today. I just finish watching the last episode of Lost In Space on blu ray. It was fun to have them back in my life for three seasons.
The 60's perhaps has some of the greatest memorable themes in movies and tv history.. Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, Land of The Giants, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Petticoat Junction, Get Smart, Bonanaza, Star Trek, Hawaii 5-0, Gilligan Island, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, the James Bond themes, Spaghetti Western ( The Good The Bad and The Ugly and etc ) ..Damn, the list goes on and on.. In my opinion the 60's was THE best!!!
Good job. In my opinion, John Williams is the best conductor to have lived.
Totally agree, and best composer!!
I think both theme songs are just great! Composer Johnny Williams IS a genius! I love them both, especially those awesome trumpets in the first one. Brings back memories of when I was a kid. I loved that show. It was corny, but a great fantasy show, especially for kids.
I always liked the second one better, but I like both more than any of his other work. :)
I LOVE THE SECOND VERSION OF THIS SONG!!!
Those sounded incredible, exactly like the themes from the series. Excellent job Cincinnati Pops, kudos to you!!!
Ohhhh!!! SO MANY MEMORIES.....BEAUTIFUL TIMES PAST....NOSTALGIAS......LIKE FOR THE VIDEO
Appointment television when
I was 4. I will always love this theme better.
I wish there was a "heart" button like on facebook, this is brilliant.
💓 How's that?
I wish there was more than just a thumbs up or down.
I love them both, but I always thought the second season’s music brought out more of the adventure in the music
Are you referring to the theme song? The 1st and 2nd seasons had the same theme music. The 3rd season had the new theme.
The season three theme evokes a sense of wonder, as well as a sense of adventure.
The conductor looks like he's having a good time, especially on the second version.
That music can make any composer happy!
@Allen Edwards Could you tell me why you didn't like the second theme? I noticed something was different, but I couldn't put my finger on it. All I know is the conductor seemed to enjoy the music for the second season.
@@davidpanetta6400 I think it's because for some reason they played it in a lower pitch, almost like it's slowed down. Still a great rendition tho
I was given a tape recorder as a little boy and I taped the Lost In Space themes and other science fiction show themes. The second season theme with the countdown and then the takeoff, soaring theme sent a thrill thru me back then. I never knew John Williams created those themes! Just like the conductor the music would weirdly inspire my career. That tape player would predict my career in radio years later as a news producer and anchor! Amazing how sound can bring back such an intense emotional memory.
What a terrific rendition! Brought me back to my childhood when I would watch Lost in Space every day at 4:30 pm in 4th grade, and was transported. This brought me back to that happy place thanks...
Same thing, same time in central VA. Those were good times.
@@kevincage1641 Hey Kevin- cool! Yes they were. I ended up going to college at UVA in Charlottesville, I imagine nearby where you lived.
NO EVERYONE IT WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW. I was born in 1969 so the show was in syndication and I would watch it after church on Sundays. Judy and Penny were crushes for this 9-year-old. Both themes were awesome.
Irwin Allen was a genius, he created good TV shows for the family to watch, these Lost in Space themes bring me back to when I was a kid. Thanks for the memories.
Season 3 theme is the best theme and the one of the most iconic. Even, the opening credits match up to the intensity of it. Awesome!
It sounded like they sped things up for Season 3. I had no idea there were so many musicians involved, I always just pictured a couple horns and a few other instruments.
@@robbarnes3507with the huge Cincinnati Pops Orchestra you lose some of the dominant shrill shrieking piccolo you get in the original
@@robbarnes3507 Remember, this wasn't the orchestra playing for the TV show; this is years later. The pit orchestra for TV was likely much smaller.
Right! Thats why this is a much fuller sound. Good Point.

I've watched this about 25 times today. I just discovered it this morning. It is absolutely amazing. I smile from ear to ear and get goose bumps hearing these wonderful Johnny Williams theme songs. Lost In Space is my all time favorite television series. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra really brings these great theme songs alive again. Sounds totally awesome! 🤗 Added note: I just bluetooth linked my tablet to my vintage Kenwood stereo and listened to this again. Then I linked to my 7.2 channel Sony home theater system in my livingroom. Over 1000 watts with two sub woofers. These wonderful theme songs blow me away. The huge orchestra with all those instruments really sounds amazing!
Thank you for listening, and for listening 25 times! We're so happy you enjoyed the video :)
Good stuff..
I loved this show, it was my favourite. Dr Smith and the robot were the best in the show. But I loved it all. When I retire soon I’m going to watch the whole lot again. This music has made me nostalgic. What fabulous theme music.
it was such a magical time.
When John Morris Russell loves the theme from Lost in Space I believe and love it! By the second version of the theme he is practically dancing on his podium!! Lol Love it! Love the enthusiasm!
It is simply awesome! I am right there with him!!
You can tell that this was one of his favorites. He put his heart & soul into it.
Yeh, if the musicians didnt know what to do, I guess they would have been kinda confused, because he dont dans in the same rythm lol
Still my favorite TV show even now.
So much talent....So glad I grew up in these days of the best songs and TV shows ever! LOVE IT !!
I always thought that the tv show, "Lost In Space" was a corny show, but I really like the theme songs by John Williams as performed in this video.
If I may say, "Lost in Space" as a series is a bit complicated to try to critique. Episode 1, the series premiere, holds up amazingly well, over fifty years later, in my opinion. And the cast has pointed at that season one was quite serious, before the show's producers were asked to "camp it up," in response to the direct competition from "Batman." I haven't seen much from Season 3 lately, but I recall a return to seriousness as the competition changed. There is more to the story, of course...
The second lost in space theme, and the theme from Jonny quest are two of the most iconic television themes that were ever written.
They were the best indeed.
As a child, I felt the exhilarating drive .The ears flooded with grandiose orchestration that genuinely pumps the body up and sets the imagination onto wild ,limitless, fantastic conjurings.
The 60s and 70s really were a golden age for television theme music. I'd never noticed how jazzy the Lost in Space theme was, I was just a kid at the time, enjoying the fantasy. But so many theme tunes of that era make you want to jump up and dance. Bonanza, The Wild, Wild West (and I didn't even like westerns!) Mission Impossible, Battlestar Galactica, Space: 1999. All terrific.
Never fear Smith is here, And he loved it ! (The feels)
...oh the pain......the pain!
Oh the pain, the pain.
I thought it was, "Never fear, Smith is weird!" (I had bad hearing as a kid, LOL)
I love the many "wind-centric" arrangements of that era. Lost in Space #2 sounds like a concert band piece. I think this kind of orchestration punched through the 5" mono speakers we all had at the time.
The season 3 sent chills up my arms...kudos!
and the conductor was thrilled!
Bravo!!! First time ever seeing the songs performed live. 🙂
This is the best rendition I have found to date. The Cincinnati Pops have performed these themes as I remember them on TV. No member in the orchestra missed a single note. Beautifully done!
The 3rd Season theme here is played much too slow and rather clunky. Compare it to the original and the Cincinnati version is pretty dull.
I agree - GREAT renditions, but WHERE WERE THE FRENCH HORNS on version 2? Sounds like they did most of it with trombones.
As good as the "Johny Williams" versions!
@@rchaselius3923 No, it isn't.
Absolutely beautiful! Incredible memories of my childhood watching Lost in Space!
To this day I often hum the later 'Lost in Space' theme song. Great music from a great show. Thanks!
Just superb! Memories of my younger days. John(ny) Wiliams , thank you for your spendid music.
I love both themes but Season 3 gives me goosebumps...I love the "heavy" version of it in the end credits of the Lost in Space Movie and love it when the new series occasionally plays it.
John Williams is a timeless time piece. I also grew up with the show...and never missed an episode, which one had to wait a whole WEEK before you got to see another. Then you have Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants and so, so many scores for Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan. This man is an endless talent. Excellent job Cincinnati Pops, and the conductor.
Its a little sad that his music from other show during the same period not that famous. I think he wrote the music for Time-Tunnel as well. :-) ruclips.net/video/hq5XLhqs7Ec/видео.html ANd I think he even wrote some music for "The land of the giants." :-) ruclips.net/video/iMIe5utv4n4/видео.html
WOW that was GREAT! I was 7 in 1965
You (REALLY) make me cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I turned 61 a couple of months ago, and I have to say that this brought a tear to my eye. As a kid, I loved this show and all the characters. Sorry, but my favorite was Robot, always saving the day and becoming more and more human every episode. I still have a Robot toy in my room, silly I know. It was a much easier time for me, I have very fond memories as a child and this brought them back. As a child from Jersey, Ultraman was one of my favorites as well. May your future also contain fond memories!
Wonderfully done. I hate they don't do theme songs anymore.
I'd surely have been asked to leave after this performance, because, guaranteed, I'd have jumped up, thrown my right fist into the air, and retracted it while screaming YESSS!!! to the top of my lungs. Beyond well done!!
There would have been two of us because it's exactly how I just reacted at home watching this for the 1st time!
,,,, and you'll do the same thing the 50th time!
A good friend, and classmate ('78), was the band director for a high school in central Pennsylvania during the latter portion of the 1990's, and won a state band competition by using television show themes for their performance program. The season 3 L.I.S. theme, and Hawaii-Five-O clinched it for them.
Sir, come with me please.
loved this show when I hear the music it takes me back
I often wonder how Johnny managed to think up all his great melodies.
I believe it is a God-given talent at that level.
This show had not only a great theme song, but some of the best background music as well.
I have always wanted to see a live performance of John Williams Lost in Space music. Thank you!
1:29 best part of that song, that little "ding", gives me chills every time!
Just stumbled across this. How fabulous! It had me grinning from ear to ear with a slight tear in my ear. It takes me back, not just to the TV series but to those times in my youth. Thank you.
Love how the conductor really gets into the music 🎶
TOTAL..... RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE THE ** LOST IN SPACE 4 EVER **
This is so freakin' great. I am so glad that I am not the only one who just adores these TV themes. The 2nd version of "Lost in Space" is by far, my favorite TV theme of all time.
John Williams is pure brilliance!!
Best I have ever heard of these songs.
The hairs on my arms stood up.
Thank you. Shed some tears here
Me too! What's wrong with me?
Fantastic renditions of the two opening themes to the Greatest Show Of All Time!
TV themes never get enough credit. In addition to "Lost in Space", there's "Peter Gunn" by Henry Mancini, "Dragnet" by Walter Schumann, "Combat!" by Leonard Rosenman, "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." by Jerry Goldsmith....
John Williams is a national treasure
Great memories!! And Great Music!! Wow!!
Oh the pain, the pain! Loved this & what a journey back in time to my childhood!
Still amazes me to see an orchestra perform the music from a film or tv show. When one sees a film one just hears the music and doesn't generally hive any thought to how it came to be, that an orchestra on a sound stage brought the film to life.
I'm binge watching Lost in Space on HULU right now. Love these theme songs!
Just a tremendous version. Perfect. For those of us that watched the show you, can actually see the opening credits in your minds eye as this is being performed.
I cried, I hurled, I remembered. Thank you.
The incomparable John Williams.
Distilled joy in music form. The grin on the conductors face says it all.
I NEED to see this live. NOW.
The pops play a concert of tv and movie music at least twice a year.
I'm with you, Mr. Seven.
John Williams was so great in music themes. He did Jaws, Superman the movie, Lost In Space, NBC Sunday Night Football, first season of Gilligan's Island, Indiana Jones, Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Land of the Giants, The Time Tunnel, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, Star Wars, and many more. A genius.
Not voyage. That was someone else.
@nunyabizness6595 that was Jerry Goldsmith
Really enjoyed that! Thanks for posting.
Both themes are very enjoyable to see here and listen too, but I absolutely love the second theme so much better! It is so dynamic and fits perfectly with the premise of the show, its characters and situations they face being lost in space. Love it!!!
Cool! No one today could produce such artistic compositions! The baby boomers had the best
in TV, music and entertainment!
Videos like this just plain make me smile.
One of the best film and television soundtrack composers of all time. I noticed "Johnny" in the credits years later. As as kid I watched the original episodes and the re-runs many times in syndication, loved the second theme version even more.
I like the second one best.
I'll second that.
Yup,last one buys the beer!
