- The Folsom Lake Symphony performs the "Theme from Mission Impossible" by Lalo Schifrin, arranged by Calvin Custer. "Hollywood Hits" concert on June 5, 2016 at the Harris Center for the Arts, Folsom CA. Peter Jaffe, Music Director and Conductor.

Yes, it is. Agree no more. A few day ago, I myself alone celebrate a local holiday and I searched this song and found this version. It raised my spirit up. What a enjoyable leisure activity alone!

Considering that was written and recorded in one day is amazing to me.
I remember 1966 when this series debuted on CBS-TV and right away I knew that it will be a huge hit.
I watched it every Saturday night.
My daughter's got addicted to this theme, she listens to it even in the bath, and I'm so proud I showed it to her! :-D

The Orchestra is really, really into the music and you not only hear it, but feel it as you watch them throw the hell down. The Conductor is a whole show; right by him own self 🍾🍾🍾
Back in high school, (1970's) we had a battle of the marching bands. We played at the USC Coliseum in LA. Lalo Schifrin conducted all the bands (don't remember how many high schools were there, but there was a lot) on the football field. The echoing along with trying to keep the 5/4 time was really hard. A memory I'll never forget.
When television shows were entertaining and great stuff.

Nothing vamps it like 1960s spy music. Just as a genre, so much good stuff, and this is just a great piece, played with a lot of love and a lot of fun. Nice to see the conductor and musicians so into it.

So cool, you don't realize how many instruments are playing in this theme. The sense of urgency is this best best part of the theme the way it comes out. Hats off to Lalo. I grew up with this original series. "Good morning Mr. Phelps...."

Utterly timeless. Still just as entrancing, as completely captivating as it was when I was a teenager watching the brand new TV series in its first season. Brilliant.

I’ve watched this like 15 times I can’t stop.
This would have been great for the original t.v. series I saw in the ‘60s. Outstanding production! The original IMF cast must be smiling and dancing right now when they hear this. Qualified and charismatic Conductor, too. At the end-that’s using your head lol.

Yes often older people are very talented. MIssion Impossible is a very simple song compared to most classical pieces. For a orchestral level player it is probably demeaning. It would be like making them play a Snoop Dogg song.

Definition of "amazing"
An under-appreciated irony of Lalo Schifrin's original "MI" theme Is that his inspiration may not just have come from Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" but from an earlier spy opus. In 1964, the TV series "The Man From UNCLE" began its first season. The series title theme was composed by the always innovative Jerry Goldsmith who used 5/4 although for episodic cues he sometimes went to 4/4 and other time signatures. Every bit as much as Schifrin's 5/4 MI theme, Golsmith's original "UNCLE" arrangement is quite a driving. ear-catching work. Nevertheless, for unknown reasons, the series producers chose to keep using the theme but likewise dumbed it down. Thus in the subsequent three "UNCLE" seasons (and the spin-off season of "Girl From UNCLE"), Goldsmith's piece was re-arranged by different composers. First up: Mr. Schifrin! He migrated the original score into 4/4. Thus in his later "MI" composition he may well have been influenced by both Brubeck and Goldsmith. Interestingly, the beats in Goldsmith's tune are different from those in Schifrin's MI theme. More than one way to skin 5/4 time -- as the Pathetique symphony by Tchaikovsky also demonstrates.

One of the best orchestras that can exist really good and of an excellent music quality (Mancini, orchestra, impossible mission, Peter Gunn, soundtrack, film music)
Yeah the live orchestra knocked it out of the park. Their signature rhythm was off the charts. Not an easy thing to do for odd time signatures where the beats aren't as easy to measure without a metronome.

Tom Cruise crapped both on the essence of that show which was being about a covert action by a T-E-A-M and not an individual, and then changing the rhythm of that unbelievable Theme Song.
Best seasons were the first Three (1966 to 1969) when Martin Landau as Rollin, and Barbara Bain as Cinnamon were starring in the show. ❤❤❤❤

Wow, thanks Mr Conductor for that introduction. Growing up in South Africa, jazz was a big music and we had a pleasure of listen to Dave Brubeck's music through his son Darius Brubeck playing piano and keyboards, a music professor at the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban South Africa.
Thank you for this Mission Impossible theme song as it takes me back to the good old days.
