2:41 Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes! The 3 objects in the foreground are CGI and they are there _specifically_ to edit together 4 different takes of Tom Cruise running. If you look at his speed, stride, steps, and body positioning, you can see that each time a CGI foreground object passes between the camera and Cruise, it is a new take; it is especially noticeable if you fix your eyes on the city skyline in the background. The fact that basically no one notices this is a testament to how great a job the editor, assistant editors, compositor, CGI artists, and director did. Edit: I just looked at the footage Cruise showed on The Graham Norton Show of when he broke his ankle doing this stunt and there are no foreground objects. The safety harnesses and wiring, along with him breaking his ankle, are most likely why there are 4 different shots stitched together to create the illusion of one continuous take - I am assuming the stitching would have been easier, and would perhaps only need two shots, if he had not broken his ankle performing the stunt.
If you look closely sky keeps jumping from cloudy to sunny and back but due to colour grading and how great the chase/running is most people overlook this detail.
