Superman unanimously is the hero who stands for if nothing else hope. He is pure and simple a hero. The man of steel, unable to be beaten by the forces of evil, utter triumph and persistence over opposition. When I think of Superman, I don’t think of truth, justice and the American way. I think of hope, strength and triumph in the face of opposition. Superman is the hero we need. Never the one some may want, but he stands for what we need: hope. This theme encapsulates it so perfectly
This wonderful score is a masterpiece! I literally stand that bit taller when i hear it. Thank you Christopher Reeve for being the best Superhero ever a young boy during the 80s i could have wished for.
I bet every musician in this orchestra has a memory of when they first saw Superman in the theater because they played this with so much love it's as much THE perfect orchestrated piece I've ever heard.
I was born in 1972. I saw this movie with my cousin Jack at the Cinema 150 in Little Rock in 1978. It was the biggest theater around, kind of like a Prototype IMAX, with a curved screen, and big speakers. Jack’s family life wasn’t the best, and he didn’t get much in the way of attention or entertainment. Getting to go to Little Rock, eating at Casa Bonitas, and seeing Superman was a huge deal for him. I still remember looking next to me when Superman was flying, and the bom bomba bom bom, bom bom bom music was playing. Jack was grinning ear to ear, and had his hands out like he was flying too. He’s gone now, but every time I hear this music, I think of 7 year old Jack, arms in the air, flying with Christopher Reeve to save the day. And I smile.
