I'm 48. I've seen this movie countless times. Listening to this right now, all of a sudden, I have goosebumps, and I'm 5 again.
I feel like I'm 6 years old again.
I’m 13 again … and you both have excellent taste!😊👍
@@Leadeshipcoach There's a video with John Williams conducting the Berliner Philharmonika orchestra the "Superman" theme. And someone commented with "ALL COMIC BOOK FANS? PLEASE RISE FOR OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!"
@@crazycappy01 .. I have heard that video and read that comment 😊👍
I want to pretend im flying round the room again!!!
For 60+ years, John Williams literally created the cultural soundtrack for two entire generations of human society. Hands-down the greatest cinematic composer of all time.
Mr. Williams deserves such a title, but Morricone existed.
100% Truth.
I'd say John Williams and Danny Elfman are right up there for me.
Not to cast shade, because you're right, but mad respect to his mentor, Miklos Rozsa.
All of John Williams music is unique and iconic. Danny Elfman’s all sounds exactly the same. In 50 years, people will still recognize, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park…I doubt anyone will recognize anything Danny Elfman did.
Christopher Reeve is the true Superman, and John Williams is his true composer.
Do Mara Jade’s theme next.
Yes my friend
Yes, that's right !! Exactly. indeed😭✨
Unfortunately, many people don't get it.
John Williams is Superman.
True and eternal Superman
"Easy miss. I've got you."
"You've got me? Who's got you?"
Perfection.
ABSOLUTELY
❤
Who are you?
A friend
At a time Hollywood didn't yet hate men.
@@mikemickypeterdavy… and it was so cool the way he said it… and then just flew into the air… and away😊
It really does NOT matter how many new superman movies and tv series or cartoons, each with new songs and scores, this is Superman's one and only theme!!
It will always be one the greatest interpretation of Superman
It does matter. Christopher Reeve is superman and this music by John William is THE superman soundtrack. Cavil etc are not.
Oh man , chills and tears in my eyes… I’m 56 and wow that just took me right back to my childhood
me too man. me. too. I don't ever want to leave
Your comment brought tears to my eyes... Beautiful memories I agree and a soundtrack that touched our lives... John Williams - the Mozart of our time
The superman theme gets me everytime
@@HorFrench 100% same here... What movies meant something... And soundtracks were connected - emotionally to the Movie
One of John Williams greatest works.
He should have gotten more than 5 Oscars in his long and distinguished film career.
Which do you reckon is the more recognised theme, Superman or Star Wars?
@@charleybrown4243 Not a theme but Jaws then Jurassic Park
This is the first orchestra presentation i have heard that is equal to the sound track. Am i surprised? No. I expect nothing but excellence from this orchestra.
my sentiments exactly
I'm agree 🤗 I have listened the version of the Berliner Philarmoniker and it sounds like the original soundtrack too.
It's definitely one of the better versions of this timeless score! Timpani percussions could have been a bit more prominent especially in the second half of it imo (listen to 3:23 and onward, it's barely there). At 4:04 someone hits a bad note :). Otherwise superb, just spot on!
Absolute perfection
@@tolli78 I don't disagree but remember this is live, not a recording environment where there is a lot more control of balance. Also for me the snare drum here is just way too prominent
Perhaps its the nostalgia. Perhaps its the majesty. Perhaps its the wonder. Perhaps a whole lot of things, but this music makes me tear up and forces me to smile every time I hear it. Thank you John Williams.
It brings optimism and, well, hope. And you cannot not smile listening to this score.
Everything you said is exactly to the point!
Yep !
I was born in 1972. I saw this movie with my cousin Jack at the Cinema 150 in Little Rock in 1978. It was the biggest theater around, kind of like a Prototype IMAX, with a curved screen, and big speakers. Jack’s family life wasn’t the best, and he didn’t get much in the way of attention or entertainment. Getting to go to Little Rock, eating at Casa Bonitas, and seeing Superman was a huge deal for him. I still remember looking next to me when Superman was flying, and the bom bomba bom bom, bom bom bom music was playing. Jack was grinning ear to ear, and had his hands out like he was flying too. He’s gone now, but every time I hear this music, I think of 7 year old Jack, arms in the air, flying with Christopher Reeve to save the day. And I smile.
I can't hear this without getting nostalgic about Christopher Reeve as the best super man ever saving the day ❤
This tune is so GREAT !!! As a kid always loved SUPERMAN and this redition sounds just like the sound track.
This used to make me jump off my couch with a towel around my neck as a little kid. 😅 I wanted to fly so bad 😂😊
@@ReedHarrison Me too !!! LOL.Nothing better than childhood, reading Superman comicbooks, playing with the rest of the kids in your neighborhood, eating candy,ice-cream,etc,etc,..
Damn straight, Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman!
@@rovers10001 agreed, There's only one superman!
I'm sure Christopher Reeve was watching down and proudly smiling.😢 R.I.P Christopher You'll Always Be The Real Superman!
SuperHomao(da porra).
This wonderful score is a masterpiece! I literally stand that bit taller when i hear it. Thank you Christopher Reeve for being the best Superhero ever a young boy during the 80s i could have wished for.
I hear this and I want to go lift a car.
One of the greatest opening credits sequences of any of film I've ever seen. John Williams is a national treasure.😊❤
International treasure, I think.
All without After Effects in those days (the titles)!
I still remember watching Superman in 1978, and seeing the amazing credit scene with the flying words. I got chills just like when I watched Star Wars! Great performance, it’s perfect.
I’m always taken back to the scene where Superman makes a complete fool out of General Zod and his goons.
That’s true.
Eu também assisti em 1978. Olhos marejados aqui.
I can just picture Clark running forward while also ripping his shirt to reveal the iconic "S". He then takes off to the skies as Superman!
When the film hit the big screen in 1978 , we saw Christopher Reeve open his shirt to reveal the ''S'' and we all knew he was Superman!

I am 53 and I love the Superman movies but the original is the best!
To all those that have never seen a Symphony live. Your missing out on one of the most amazing things we as humans can muster. GO! Its AWESOME LIVE, not like this is on the Tube. You feel it. It hits you in your soul. If you have been to one you know what I am talking about. Support your local Symphony. Its well worth the price I can assure you all.
If only they made a European tour. Local orchestra's rarely chose to perform modern songs, they usually stick to classical music.
100% correct.
worked security for a Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performance once (i was at stage left closer than the front row) the BSO played this in the second act, it was a moving experience.
@@Libertatea673Unless you're fortunate enough to go to a Boston Pops concert.
One came to my school and played this & the whole thing went through me. I felt I could literally fly.
This gave me chills. The talent of John Williams is otherworldly. RIP Christopher Reeves.
This is the best performance of this piece since the London Symphony did it in '78.
Have you ever been to John Williams nights at the Boston Pops?
@@gdelan1 I'm afraid not. I've never lived anywhere near Boston.

The most beautiful piece of music ever composed.
GUYS, THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME. SO WONDERFUL AND AWESOME ORCHESTRA. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Super hero theme song nothing can beat John Williams' Superman's theme.
AGREED.
Yes. it is THE superhero theme song
Avengers Theme is very strong runner-up.
Don't forget Hans Zimmer's The Dark Knight trilogy
@@Satai80 Good one indeed, but the runner-up is without any doubt Danny Elfman's Batman Theme.
Composers like Williams, Shore and others who compose the great movie scores are the 20 & 21 century composers of todays classical music.
Superman unanimously is the hero who stands for if nothing else hope. He is pure and simple a hero. The man of steel, unable to be beaten by the forces of evil, utter triumph and persistence over opposition. When I think of Superman, I don’t think of truth, justice and the American way. I think of hope, strength and triumph in the face of opposition. Superman is the hero we need. Never the one some may want, but he stands for what we need: hope. This theme encapsulates it so perfectly
This is the type of music that modern-day superhero movies are missing don't know if anybody would agree with me or not but truly good movies need to have proper music and the original OG Superman always did this for me
True
I agree and that's why I love the throwback sound from the First Avenger Captain America movie. Not as iconic as this great piece by John Williams though.
Modern movies are missing more than just music. Disney and most Hollywood has set itself directly against human biology. If you're a straight man, they hate you. If you're a straight woman, they disdain you. However, The Wall has no pity and the gods of the copybook headings don't forget. The future is demographics.
Greatness will return, even better than before.
I love music. Though there are many great scores today - I do agree the one feeling I think is rare is that TRIUMPHANT MARCH we hear in this score
Christopher Reeve, the eternal superhero
Miss you.
this made me smile from ear to ear
Best live version I’ve ever heard. WOW.
Totally agree, it almost sounds exactly like the original. With just the right amount of balance, very impressive indeed.
Don't often hear it performed this spot on.
John Williams should conduct this orchestra himself.
This orchestra is the best at representing his music.
Absolutely the BEST Superman Theme Ever..
For myself, here is the best symphonic orchestra in the world !!! ❤
This theme always gets to me in such a positive way every time!
I hear this piece, I close my eyes and picture Christopher Reeve flying in orbit above the earth and smiling at us as he banks and flies away.
This orchestra is hugely underrated. I am continuously impressed.
Also 2:35 good to see that musicians still smirk as they get to this part and nod to each other, "yep, Strauss."
Underrated.. the DNSO is considered among the very best in the world..
This orchestra murdered this piece, someone better call the cops to arrest their music sheets for evidence.
No one underrates this orchestra. Why would you even say that?
You are incorrect. @@powerbadpowerbad
@@guydaley Because I've never heard of them. I gave them a try and was very well impressed. I know them now.
This was my childhood. I was obsessed with Christopher Reeve's Superman.
What a thrilling piece. We are blessed to have John Williams to arrange these masterpieces. The DNSO brought it to life once again.
For me, this is perhaps one of John Williams' best works: it's more complex and constructed in a much more sophisticated fashion than both his Jaws and Star Wars themes that he produced a year or two before this theme. Excellent performance, as ever, from DANSO. Bravo!
Incredible performance! Who knew the DNSO was able to leap tall arrangements with a single bound? Ludwig Wiki did! Bravo! Big props to the staging, lighting and sound engineering too! They're a pretty fly group.
Faster than a speeding cut time
Nice one! 😊
Finally, an orchestral conductor I can actually follow! Playing was superb too.
Brings a tear to my face greatest theme ever nothing comes close, Christopher Reeve RIP you will always be superman !!
I've listened to this piece a hundred times, but watching it adds so much context to it. To see who is playing and which instruments are working hardest (from snare drum to trombone to xylophone) makes it all the more impressive. John Williams is a genius.
The best live performance of this composition I have ever hear. Congratulations to the conductor, the musicians, and the recording engineers. You’ve all channeled the genius of John Williams.
45 years later and it is still the best theme of all the super-hero movies that came afterward.
This is the best version I’ve ever heard
This tune gives me an electric tickle in my spin and goose-bumps every time I hear it.
From the first time I heard it on-screen as a kid watching "Superman" in 1978, to whenever I feel nostalgic and watch it at home.
The best superhero theme ever written.
Super Man out standing score of music RIP Chris Reeve the best actor to play the role also John Williams great moving sounds classic movie will stand the test of time 😀😀😀😀
UNBELIEVABLE...... everytime I hear this the hair on my arms stand up.... This theme tune is timeless...... PERFECT
My God...I was 9 years old when my dad took me to the cinema to watch this masterpiece. I fell in love with the soundtrack, I never could take this EPIC melody out of my head! Thank you for the fond memories. Mr. Williams, you are the soundtrack of my childhood and early teen years. Thank you so much.
Very faithful interpretation by the orchestra (exactly the right amount of pathos) and great image and audio quality - thank you very much!
This theme is basically a mix of the indiana jones and star wars main themes, but it works to perfection.
I bet every musician in this orchestra has a memory of when they first saw Superman in the theater because they played this with so much love it's as much THE perfect orchestrated piece I've ever heard.
John Williams theme at its finest.
Still to this day when I hear this music, it takes me back to 5 or 6 years old. Back when Superman was everyone's hero. My heart swells
The Super Ladies and Super Men in your Super Orchestra did a Super job on this Super Piece! I loved it....Will Ortiz
OH MAN !! Honestly...the only way this could've been better - is if Superman himself flew in and lightly touched down on stage. That was great ! Thanks !!
I am crying tears of joy and emotion as I listen to this performance! I hope this performance will give strength to all the people of Earth who are struggling with Covid19! Maybe Superman is protecting us somewhere...........
When even the music shouts 'Su-per Man!', you know it's something special. In my opinion, as good as the rest of Mr. Williams' scores might have been, this one is the most triumphant. I still can remember 1st time seeing Superman while living in Germany (Zweibrücken AFB) and hearing that score at the intro...what a magical memory!
all the song scream " SU PER MAN!!". This is a hymn, the best superman theme forever
The "SU PER MAN!!" was a bet of Richard Donner to John Williams
Strong powerful , invincible . Superman os a hero worth looking up too . To find him we need only , Look up in the sky
If i were to ever hear, what i consider THE definitive Superman March by John Williams, the Maestro himself....i dont know what i would do with myself...either let out a cathartic roar of approval or burst into a blubbering mess of emotion.
Certainement la plus jolie musique de film de super héro de tous les temps, fantastique !!!
Wow! Such an amazing performance. Bravo! 👏👏👏
This brought tears to my eyes on how magnificent this is. Bravo!
So powerful.
I absolutely love this. John Williams best score.
It. Is. Just. Perfect.
This is as flawless a live performance of the single most inspirational piece of music as I’ve ever heard/seen!
Outstanding!!!
Godt for ørerne! Supergodt gået! Lød præcist som originalen.
The DNSO performance here is spectacular. This is utter perfection. Words fail to express adequately what an outstanding job you have done. Very, VERY well done !

Christopher Reeve is the man can fly
Rest in peace Superman
A John Williams masterpiece. The music that told us... A man can fly!

The human spirit truly is magnificent when we achieve things in unison
Even now as an adult this tune gives me goosebumps. There might be many Superman movies..... but there is only one Superman, and we all know who that is. 😊

Absolutely fantastic piece. So true to the original John Williams theme.. Exceptionally well done !!! I love it !!
Outstanding performance the sound engineering and the performance are so complete
The best superhero theme song of all time...
The instrumental essence of THE superhero. Williams nailed it. Once again.
The best superhero theme ever.
Words cannot describe John Williams.
No,they can not.
Steven Spielberg said it best, when John Williams was asked to compose the music for Schindler's list, John Williams didn't feel worthy and said there were better composers for the film. And then Steven said: Yes, but they are all dead.
Magnificent......... imagine seeing and listening this live concert orchestra play as an audience member... you'll be geeking out and having massive goosebumps listening to the "Superman" march song.
Never tire of listening to this peice of music.gives me goosebumps everytime.christopher reeve is superman to me 🙂
That literally brought tears of joy to my eyes. Scores like this are sorely missed in today's films. As soon as you hear this beautifully uplifting theme, you know exactly what movie is comes from and it is absolutely memorable.
RIP Christopher...! UR Melody Forever and Ever...!!
The best musical march for any comic book superhero. Ever.
This will forever live in my childhood memories. When I first saw Superman in the theater in the 70s, I was awe struck. Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me.
Thanks 👍👍💪 One of my ABSOLUTE favorites.. ❤️ Makes you wanna rip your shirt open and fly away at maximum speed 😍❤️
Sounds amazingly like the OST.. Wow. The 80s kid in me can't help feeling nostalgic hearing this. It's hard to separate Christopher Reeve's Superman from this one beautiful performance. Imagine being there live and watching this. Bravo!
i get goosebumps when i hear a great impacting score, this is surely one of them,as always perfectly performed
Hearing this song make me believe that a man can fly.
That's a comic book fan, Superman continues to capture my imagination ever since I was a child. There is not a day that goes by I don't think of this theme song whenever I think of Superman 😎
One of my all time favourites, only beaten by the Imperial March and that was as epic a version as I have ever heard, as good as those conducted by John Williams himself. Loved it
