Dan Marino the best pure passer I've ever seen in football.
He def was... Until i saw patrick mahomes
If marino played in todays NFL with the Ruies like they are, he’d throw 60 td a yr.
@@mrm8509Haha!
@@iamtman1Yep, then put that boy Mahomes vs defenses allowed to hit low and hard. That kid would retire instantly.
@SuperFuck and if you out Marino in today's era he would choke in the playoffs like he did in his era overrated as hell
Some of these throws Marino made in this game alone. Just unbelievable. Perfect accuracy and placement.
Another reason this was so memorable was Marino's reaction. He NEVER celebrated like that
YUP!
No quarterback in history could throw the ball like Dan Marino. The best passer that ever lived.
iamtman1 I agree partially but as a Miami born fins fan I most say Drew Brees might be more accurate as his receivers barely ever had to look over their shoulders as they knew the ball was gonna land into their hands over the top while running at full speed.
Drew Brees plays in a dome, with today's joke rules were any QB can look good. Marino much better than Brees. And I like Brees too.
I am aware Rodgers is alive, and I think he's great. Marino still the better passer. Remember the rules Marino played under compared to today were anyone can pass for big numbers.
Brett favre the best gunslingers
Marino better passer than Favre. Even favre acknowledged it on the NFL network.
Loved the days when the screen had no graphics during plays, no in-game ad reads, and lots of commentary.
YES
its good to hear the voices i grew up listening to again.
Scott Young yes it is👍
Marino would tear up the league if he played today!
Kerry Collins has a ring and Marino doesn't.
@@EssexAggiegrad2011 off the top of my head he doesnt, drafted by Panthers lost in conference championship vs Packers, 2000 led Giants to SBXXXV and lost to Trent Dilfer and Ravens then had his final years with the Titans, made playoffs after a great start one yr, but that was it. I think you meant Dilfer.
@@augienardone1768My bad. You are correct.
@@EssexAggiegrad2011 No he doesn't Kerry Collins was the quarterback for the Giants team that lost to the Ravens
@@EssexAggiegrad2011 No he doesn’t. He only made it to one Super Bowl with the Giants, and they got obliterated in that game.
Marv Albert can make a neighborhood touch football game sound epic.
I thought it was Kenny (his son) commentating🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I’m telling you. Marv’s voice makes NBC Sports second to none even now.

NFL Cool
NFL I
Marino’s backup that year was Bernie Kosar. No one remembers this but Bernie tried the original Fake Spike play in the 1986 playoffs… also against the Jets. It almost worked but Russell Carter made a fantastic play to get back and knock the ball away from Webster Slaughter.
That's some damn fine picture quality fellas. Good job. Thanks for posting!
Miss da 90s
Marino won more with less talent than any qb in history
Christina Garner I couldn’t agree with you MORE.!!!!!! You’re exactly right.
Ignorance and lies.
Truth bombs.
CJ Dickey Outside of the Marks Brothers, what talent did he have around him?
Seriously. It's a shame that a guy with such talent wasted his career with the Miami Dolphins.
I was at this game ( the only away game i attended) with over a decade of season ticket holder years at Miami. Mark Ingram's career day at Meadowlands. 4 TD catches from Marino including the remarkable spike play!!
I remember watching this game with my Dad. He was a big Jets fan and though I was a Giants fan, I loved Miami as well. He thought the Jets had the game one and he nearly blew a gasket when Marino's fake spike turned into a TD pass. I felt bad for him, but it was one of the memorable moments in football history. It would of course been a bigger deal is it was in the post season.
I remember Keith Jackson and he was a BEAST!!!!
I remember watching this game and thinking he should just fake the spike because of how he was moving the ball on that drive. Then he actually did it! It was so awesome. To see it here in real time really gives it justice how the Jets were caught off guard. Almost every other highlight of this is in slow motion. Even to this day I have only seen it attempted a few times since then.
I was in a bowling alley in California when I watched this live. I was a sophmore in high school and I had a group of friends bowling with me. The Dolphins were just starting to become my favorite team.
Shula's next to last season. What a great coach.
Integrity and knowledge. Don Shula
JayDogTitan 1464 Only three more years and he would've tied Tom Landry for the most consecutive seasons as head coach with one team, both their teams met back in Super Bowl VI and who would've thought that they would go on to spend several more years with their team
RIP DON!
Who would've thought both Landry and Shula would be replaced with Jimmy Johnson
Don Shula said his biggest regret was not putting more talent around Marino, Stephenson was only H.O.F. Marino ever played with but won a lot of games
It's a crime that Elway has 2 rings and Marino has none. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Elway because we share a division. I just think that Marino was arguably the best QB the league ever saw, and he never won a championship.
@@TheAutumnWind_RN4L I couldn't agree more with your assessment. People seem to forget Terrell Davis carried that Broncos offense. Elway had great targets like Rod Smith. Who did Marino have?. Oronde Gadsden? Shula and Jimmy Johnson... Hell the entire Dolphins front office failed Marino in my opinion. You get Marino a decent O-Line and a running game where he wasn't slinging it 40 times a game. With some outside help. Just a shame. I consider Marino to be the best Quarterback I have ever seen play.
@@Ghostmotorfinger Marino is the greatest quarterback I've ever seen play, as well, in an era where athleticism was near what it is today, but the pure savagery of tackle football was far greater than what it is right now. These quarterbacks couldn't tie Roger Staubach's shoes, let alone Dan Marino's, and they're putting up these ridiculous numbers, passing his records in situations that they didn't have to play in. Davis secured his HoF induction simply because he got Elway those two rings, with outstanding performances in Superbowls 32 and 33. You are spot on in everything you just said, GMF, and it's a shame that revisionist history leaves this man out of the conversation of the greatest player of all time, or at least the greatest QB.
@@TheAutumnWind_RN4L I appreciate that. You are absolutely correct about today's version of the game of football. Now we all realize that things always progress and circumstances change. Look at football from the 1950's compared to the glorious 1970's, light years difference. But you hit the nail on the head about revisionist history in talking about Dan Marino in the conversation as the greatest quarterback of all time. His skill set has yet to be seen in anyone again nor do I think we will in our lifetime.
@@Ghostmotorfinger Indeed, and that is very unfortunate. You're a true scholar of the game. It's been an honor.
Thia was probably one of the most devistating losses in Jets history. They would not win another game that season and it led to Pete Carroll being fired. Then they hired Rich Kotite and he would only win four out of 28 games the next two seasons.
Fins fan...don’t recall that but I’m sure I was following it!
Then Carroll resurfaced at USC won a couple National Championships then went to Seattle and won a Super Bowl (should have been 2 but didn't give the ball to Lynch in the second one at the end of the game).
@@mm-gl7sz Before all that and after his brief Jet tenure Carroll took over in New England after Parcells jumped to the Jets.
Getting ready to play my 1984 season set of the NFL which means Dan Marino & BOMBS AWAY!!!
Lucky, I grew up in the 1980s and it was wonderful to watch Dan Marino, Mark Clayton and Mark "Super" Duper put up 45 points a game.
The Dolphins need to bring back this logo.its this logo i saw the Dolphins had on their helmets for many many years
Johnny Mitchell just caught another TD😂I think Ingram and Fryar is my fave Dolphin WR duo after Duper and Clayton
I could listen to Marv Albert talk about anything and love it
I'm a Jets fan but objectively this was an amazing game
marino the goat. he would have 6,000 yds and 60 td,s in todays game. better believe it
True
Your a dreamer...lol but he was good I'll give you that.
Michael Meeds No Joe Montana is
@@tylourbrewington3650 no Marino is
@@darryl163 uhm no. He had 49 tds in 84 and over 5k yards. Today is pretty much arena league
Thanx for uploading this!
#PhinsUp for Marino!!!
Every era has the voices of the game. Timeless.
ESPN classic material right here man!!!
Marino is still ranked in the top 10 greatest QBs of all time, not bad for a qb who never won a super bowl.
Ya that's fair never had ground game
It’s a shame though because he was literally the greatest QB I’ve ever seen, Super Bowl or not
RIP Don Shula, Chuck Klingbeil, and Calvin Jackson
R.I.P. Chuck Klingbeil #99
This was the game the convinced me that Dan Marino was one of the greatest ever. And his stats do not count all the dropped passes that were on the money. His release was that fast. And the way Dan spread it around. It was no wonder his receivers were caught off guard sometimes.
Man Jets were up 24-6 but it actually should have been more - they were at the one-yard line on two other possessions and came away with 0 and 3
Only game I ever actually got down on my knees and prayed. It was a worthwhile experience.
Awesome! Best QB in history.
Marino's most memorable play of his career.
Sadly his dolphins teams were cursed like the AFC championship
No Super Bowls but imo best passer ever.
Phinsup who's with me
That Esiason hail mary still hasn't landed.
MrBismarck lol
😂😂😂
I was angry back then when they let Pete Carroll go.. He was the players coach. I remember watching this game, extremely disappointed. Seeing Rob Moore in this video reminded me when players played even with a broken arm, he had a cast on and was still catching the balls.. Loved Rob Moore and Al Toon
I remember this game from my youth..I was 18 at the time..Jets had so many chances to put this game away three drives deep in Miami territory that could have been 7 points each time. Instead they let Marino hang around too long, which we know all too well was almost always fatal! I watched Payton Manning make that same mistake once early in his career also.
it's so weird seeing Ronnie Lott in a jets uniform
Same with Art Monk
Facts I agree the best pocket passer ever his spiral was a thing of beauty
fr
1:55:40, Dan Marino at his best. Here is the fake spike. WOW!
I totally forgot that Art Monk went to The Jets for a retirement check.😂
Eagles fan here: Man just seeing that big red meadowlands logo at midfield takes me back... I❤🏈🏈🏈
Because it was Marino and because it was the fake spike, no one really remembers that the Jets sort of dominated play early...and that Pete Carroll passed on kicking a couple possible field goals. That's why you don't give a competitor like Marino a chance. As a football fan though, I was disappointed that Boomer threw that last ball out of the end zone. You know he sat up all night thinking about it.
As of the early 2000's before this painful last 20 years hit, the Miami Dolphins were the most successful team(winning percentage) of any professional team in the world.
Bring back the original logo & the uniforms of the late 90's or early 2000's.
Yes!!!! Sick that they changed a classic uniform!
Fins always had a chance with him at qb. Not too many u can say that about. Goat
My favorite all time qb
Ken O'Brien...🤔
Man seeing Shula and Marino again, definitely miss those days!
This was a fun game to watch.
Dan Marino is the most complete quarter back of all time, had mobility, the best arm, great pocket presence, outstanding abilitu to read the defense.
Aaron rodgers is second
NFL Superfan Tom brady
antG4088 joe and tom brady are the most successful quarterbacks of all time but I'm talking about pure physical talent. That goes to Marino and Rodgers
antG4088 yup, jerry also had jerry rice, one of the greatest coaches ever and a great overall team for a decade straight. Same with brady. Put someone more athletically gifted like rodgers and marino on the 00's patriots, 80's 49ers, 90's cowboys and they win just as many superbowls if not more
NFL Superfan Yea Brady had defenisve minded coaches, not offensive savants. Also midling to garbage talent to throw to just about his whole career. Rodgers has 1 ring and cant ever get passed the NFC West in the playoffs. Elway>Marino and Rodgers
NFL Superfan and Marino had the mobility of a stump LOL you never watched thos guy play you just wanted a chance to talk about Rodgers LOL how transparent
fo dolphins year i was born good job Marino with the Fake spike vs the Jets
I miss this kind of football.
Amen physical!
It looks like at 1:54:45 Marino tells Ingram to go on the fake spike. Definitely a hand gesture like a spike and he says it while they're close...
I don’t know if Marino does have a specific or well known Nickname yet but what I’d call him is Miami Vice.
Ya can't think of any
Thanks for this great game guys
You thought THIS was bad, Jets fired Pete Carroll after one season and hired Rich Kotite.
Marino. Simply the best. Of all time. Forget tom Brady 10 yard passer and refs in his pockets.
Those Jets uniforms are beautiful
The funniest NY Jets loss until the Buttfumble game.
I love miami iam dolphins strong
Rob Moore was a great Wide receiver
Former Cardinals great lmao
Wish we saw more Pro Sets run today. If there's a two man backfield today it's always I or offset-I. Pro set kind of faded out around 2005-2006 while those other two back sets stayed for some reason. Useful formation to pass and a lot of variance (can offset the back to one side, can move them closer to the line or further). We also don't see offset singleback sets anymore either.
i was at the game, the only NFL game I've attended in 50 years. I turned to my gf who knew nothing about football and said " Watch, he's going to throw the ball down to stop the clock. Then I turned back to watch the game and the ball was in the end zone...lol....I never saw it. After this game I think the Jets lost something like 15 straight games.
I've seen the fake spike play several times in compilation videos and it cut off a few seconds after he caught the ball, so I never knew the wr's name and I'm just now finding out that it's Mark Ingram's dad-Mark Ingram Sr😳😳😳
Also I knew the commentator sounded familiar, I was thinking it was Kenny Albert but it's actually his dad Marv
Joe Montana Sports talk football for the Sega genesis
Great great game...childhood memories...👌👌😁
The Jets had so many opportunities to put this game away, but they just couldn’t get the Boulder over the hill. I remember a Saints game versus the Patriots that kind of went like this. You thought the Saints had it and would put the game away, but they kept giving Brady one last chance and eventually he burned them.
The best Dan marino game against the Jets
This game signaled the end of anything positive for the Jets until the 1997 season opener (a 4-33 "run").
Dolphins had a talented D line w/Tim Bowens, Marco Coleman and it showed when they sacked Boomer 3 times in a row in the 4th.
That was amazing! I can't remember another time that a Phin 's D has done that.
Danny never needed the 1 timeout they had left on the final drive.
Man can you imagine if there was fantasy football back then. Mark Ingram points would be insane.
RIP Don Shula.
🙏🏾
Possibly Ingram's greatest game as a Dolphin.
Ya more a giant
fryor got the air taking out of him with Marino with that cannon lol
Those Starter jackets…🤌🤌🤌
Fresh af
"they catch the jets NAPPING"!!!
Marino was Neo before the Matrix
this old games are awesome
Remember this like it was yesterday
That jet green is my favorite.
Kelly green....
Marv Albert...legend. he's better in NBA.
The Jets should bring back these uniforms as an alternate
Fwmelias326 facts..
Fwmelias326 and the helmets. I love them.
Fwmelias326 No way!!! Those uniforms were hideous! The ones they wear now (original uniform) are so much better!
I know this is an old comment but I totally agree.. hope one day the Jet's bring back this logo and uniforms of some design
Me too, takes me back to when the Bills were good.
tim bowens was a monster, 6'4 320
Him and Gardner
49:50 No, Keith Jackson was upset because Jeff Lagemen took a swing at him.
Great thing about the drive the Fins only had 1 timeout Danny didn't need it.
I miss those older green uniforms.
As a millennial watching this (i started being heavy into the nfl in like 97) it is so annoying that the broadcast doesn't have the score/time clock/down on the screen at all times lol
Back shoulder throw was born, just like that
Loved Win Aaron Rodgers Pulled The Dan Marino Fake Spike That Lead To The GW TD Pass On The Next Play in The Home Of Marino
Ronnie Lott was playing for Jets. Esiason realizes it’s his role in the NFL to have camera close ups as future HoF QBs win legendary games & Pete Carroll wondering if he would be better if coaching college to prepare for another shot at the NFL where he wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. Finally Ravens Mark Ingram’s father catching the winning TD.
What the hell was Esiason thinking on the last play? Didn't even gave his receivers a chance to make a play.
Dan Marino, my hero!
@ 1:55-43 Aaron Glenn got out played with the go ahead touchdown.... he wasn’t even looking... I didn’t sleep that night
#FinsUp Finally After Years... WE MIGHT MAKE PLAYOFFS after being 1-4 earlier this season!
I miss Marv Albert. Kenny is great too, one of the best out there today., but Marv had more emotion.
Lmao what happened to him?

Wonder what ever became of that Pete Carroll guy who was coaching the Jets here? 😏
#GoHawks
MrTommyg024 He got beat by the Patriots just like he did here~
After Pete was fired, the Jets brought in Rich Kotite, who infamously passed up Warren Sapp for Kyle Brady, who Belichick really wanted when he was coaching the Browns.
After the Jets drafted Brady, BB traded down for a future pick in the 1996 Draft. That draft pick would be used on Ray Lewis, after the old Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens.
MrTommyg024 Pete Carroll eventually went to the Seahawks after coaching the USC Trojans
