- Automotive Engineer David Chao is once again conducting a full quality audit on the production version of the new 2023 Toyota Prius, which is built in Japan. Previously, David said that even the pre-production version of the Prius had amazing quality, so he was very curious to do an audit of this production version. Find out why David feels that this affordable Prius is one of the best built cars in the world.
If you haven't watched his previous video on the Toyota Prius Prime (5 reasons why Prius Prime is the best small car in the world), you can watch it here:

All the generations of Prius are five star. If you own this car for long time, you see that It’s not only about gas mileage, you save in tires, brake pads, and service.
Thank you for the review.
Woohoo! Go Prius!
Looking forward to hearing your experience once you get your own!
Love the coverage of the greatest car manufacturer of all time. Cant cover enough toyota content. Thank you.
I got a Prius prime se 2023, love it!
Tell us what you love about it
the overall driving experience is very satisfying, I feel in control, and I am still on my first tank of gas, plug it in once a week I 800 miles on with a 125 miles of gas in the tank, I'll have a thousand miles on it before I get some more gas.@@sammyjammy6647
Did you get one or 2 key fobs?
Thanks Dave! Looking forward to getting one of these
David, I am glad they are keeping their skills sharp with the sporty Prius. It bodes well for the next practical Prius v. 😉
Excellent presentation and information.
Good stuff , David...thank you..
Build quality is also determined over time with age and mileage. In this area, Toyota never disappoints. My 2005 Camry that I bought used now with over 350,000 kms is still solid and runs smooth. Almost 19 years old. Toronto Canada. Prius cars put everything into the engine, which will last a long time but admittedly their quality plastics have reduced quality in newer models.
Chiếc xe quá tuyệt vời. Bạn quá yêu chiếc xe của mình. Bạn thật hiếm có❤
Thanks for being and giving a fair review. 👍👍
excellent video
Hello David great review
We have a 3rd gen and our 5th gen LE will be arriving in a few weeks! Build quality from japan never disappoints!!
David, the Prius is the first vehicle that I ever drove where I obtained almost 50 miles per gallon. I hope that you continue your vehicle gap analysis. Every time I am in a show room I always look at the vehicles, and the gaps are one of the things I have always noticed, especially when they do not line up because it is very obvious to me.
we are getting a prius awd because of this review, thank you
I was hoping you might comment on the dashboard area on the passenger’s side. It’s made of a material that doesn’t look easy to clean. Plus when the sun is shining on it the black looks mottled with gray. Makes it look dusty or dirty. First thing I noticed when I test drove. Thanks for your review!
Another detailed review of a good looking Prius which now has cool style. Is Toyota starting to get its inventory of parts back up post pandemic and start putting cars on lots for sale. My local dealer in Manitoba has not had a new car for sale for over a year only pre order. wonder what lots look like across North America.
Just an FYI... I have heard and seen some issues with the plastic parts on the outside of the vehicle. At the dealership here we see that the black plastic on the end (top) of the hatchback on the passenger side had a 1" triangle piece broken off. I know other people have mentioned broken plastic parts too.
I have had my ‘23 Prime XSE Premium for 2 months now and I agree (in a very unscientific) way the quality is excellent! Everything fits perfect, and no squeaks or rattles at all.
Question about paint thickness - wouldn’t this vary by color? Are the ‘premium’ paints different, and that might be the reason for the added cost?
May you do video check quality build of Camry, please?
I know they're built in Kentucky, but I am afraid to get one cause they are not from Japan hand-built.
I see on GEN5 Prius site, owners complaining ABOUT paint job. ESPECIALLY the front. Some white color peeling? Some, just like to complain. 1st yr model, going to be defects. Great video! 👍
The quality of a car is determined after some time, some factors are determined when it is new. My two 2017 Priuses both have bad quality paint, resistance to sun radiation. One was prime and another was Regular Prius.
Did u use any protection/waxes/polishes? If so, what products. Automatic car washes?
i truly think that i had some more expectations of an engineering degree. Just mesure the gaps in every car is not enough for me. I would like more explanations about the operation of the car, the engine. Its evolutions with respect to the previous generation and other vehicles. Why is it so well manufactured and if its internal design of the engine, the engineering and its components are good, durable, etc, etc.
The logic is if manufacturer can't get things that are visible right, imagine the things that aren't.
Maybe he mentions some of these things in the full review
2024 Toyota Prius ❤🎉
Please do a review of Toyota Crown 2023, Thanks
BUT That gloss black trim! I finally upgraded from 2009 Prius to 2023 Prius Prime XSE. For years I just could not imagine owning a car with the garish gloss black and white that Toyota was putting in the Prius/PriusC (nor did I think the exterior styling was an upgrade to my 2009). The negatives I have about my 2023 Prius Prime are that gloss black trim, the lack of a spare tire, and the software ignoring the Prime difference in MPG calculation (not to dwell on the totally bogus phone app values). The manufacturing quality is really superb, the design quality is outstanding, and the user interface quality is good for such a complex set of configurable features. The new generation supply chain management is simply abhorrent - only one key fob at delivery, damage a 19" rim lose your car for a month or more, have a non-repairable flat must wait a few days for a tire, have a charger cooling fan issue cannot plug-in for a month or more.
🤔1st new model year. U know what they SAY?
🏎️
David please tell us your thoughts on the new 2024 forerunner not the 2025 6th gen. Toyota is obviously not going to skip a year before the 6th gen comes out. any upgrades at all?
TOYOTA SHOULD NEVER BRING DOWN THE QUALITY NO MATTER WHAT.
THE PRICE SHOULD NEVER GO UP, Because the parts used these days are cheap. (Plastic).
I have purchased 6 Toyotas since 2001, 4 from the same dealer, in Moreno Valley.
waiting for Mercedes E series 2024 video😍
If the manufacturer don't like it as you say. why did they make it then. ?
Can this Prius last 300,000 miles or 20 years+ that's the question
"The quality of a $100,000 car." Wow! (3:07)
You can hear how hollow the materials are in the new Prius. I'm not a fan of the manufacturing quality here. Even the side panels on the exterior look cheap.
Japanese culture is much more homogeneous, ensuring their morals and values are sustained. “Multiculturalism” sounds good, but one only need scratch the surface to uncover the problems overwhelmingly outweigh any perceived benefits. If you migrate to a country, the correct expectation is a desire to assimilate and become a member of its culture, not demand the culture change for you.
I disagree, multiculturalism leads to more creativity, more openness to experiences and ideas, more outside the box thinking, that’s why America is ahead when it comes to these things.
On the other hand the culture of dedication, conscientiousness, precision and hard work in Japan is really admirable and it is why the Japanese are amazing in building cars and many other things but I still think that the Japanese and the Chinese will always be behind because extreme homogeneity and the urge to assemble or conform to the norms/ the majority will suffocate a lot of the creativity of the people.
But thinking about it, in a sense, it’s beautiful that we have both examples in the world.
@@dominozonda can't really disagree with you, but time will tell.
It's getting harder to find a good review channel these days. Too much amateur robot voice trash on RUclips.
Honestly this is too little too late by about 5 years. The BEV revolution is upon us, what the Prius did in 2000, Tesla is doing now. Look at Prius sales, they are trash.
Give a $7,000 tax break on all cars and see how that BEV revolution goes. 😅. Most people I've seen online can't get a Prius. They have to produce enough to sell. Or stop their dealers from gouging.
This is the stupidest statement I’ve read this month 🤦🏽♂️.
@@miltonhayek2494 The Model Y is more expensive than the Rav4 even with a tax break and yet the Model Y is on pace to be the number one selling car in the country. Also, all plug ins are eligible for tax breaks and rebates. Like I said, too little too late for the Prius, I rarely here people talk about it and the ones on the road are mostly older models.
Tesla will be trash in about a decade maybe less now that Toyota is quietly working behind the shadows. Tesla was riding high because they were the first successful EV manufacturer but Toyota will go down as truly the best over time. Being a big fish in a small pond mentality will get the better of Tesla in coming years.
@@marcelpatel9017 You don’t understand the BEV market if you believe that. Toyota recently did a tear down of the Model Y and said it was “a work of art” and they plainly admitted they are playing catch up. I think Toyota will be fine in the long run but they even admitted that they misjudged the market and BEV timeframe. Several automakers including GM, Ford, and Stellantis have adopted Tesla’s NACS charging standard so they will have supercharger access, Tesla is not going away anytime soon.
