    As much as I hate government regulation, I would drive a hybrid regardless.
    They are good on gas, quiet, and reduce emissions.
    Oh and they have the best range. A Prius can go 1000km (620mi) on a single tank of gas!⛽️
    Plus they are the most reliable cars around.
    The low end torque of the electric motor makes a beautiful marriage with the high end torque of the internal combustion engine

    These are going to sell really well. I’m not completely ready to go full up EV and both the Prius and Prius Prime give me the option to go partial EV and get some of the benefit without the range anxiety and lack of charging infrastructure that a full up EV owner has to deal with. Well done Toyota.

    I actually upgraded from a 2010 Prius with the solar panel that ran an internal fan. I upgraded to a 2023 Prius Prime (I was surprised, because I found gen 4 to be so ugly). But the Prime works well for being EV as daily driving and hybrid for any long distance highway. I didn't find the 2010 solar panel to be a party trick, and I was surprised that Toyota abandoned it. I could leave it out baking in the sun for the whole day....when I got in the car, I didn't burn my hands handling metal seat belts or gripping the steering wheel. As for do you need the plug in? I'm noticing most the people asking me about the car (after saying, wow...that's a Prius??!!) is that they also think 40 mile EV is great for their need of daily driving (and then it's easy extended highway driving with hybrid).

      Kia, where are you in Canada ? We're in Newfoundland and, gas hit, at its highest, $ 1.96 last year. Currently, it hovers around $ 1.75 per liter. Amazing when you consider we are an oil producing province. Diesel was even worse, approaching $ 3.00 per liter. That meant, to run a tractor trailer from Ontario to St. John's the cost "for fuel alone" was $ 10,000 ! Add the Gulf ferry (and an empty return trip with fuel and ferry),and a margin for the operator you'd be looking at a cost of over $25,000 per truck !
      Jesus Mary and Joseph, is it any wonder the inflated costs for goods is so high. It's simply not sustainable. We suffer.

If I want to really punch it I can whenever I want and use all 220hp or when I go on road trips. It's the best sweet spot in EV range and overall MPG gas efficiency. Remember where things were when the 2004 Prius came out and how many people poo pooed it. It was an engineering marvel to get 50 MPG. That was completely unimaginable back then. So much so many people thought you had to plug it in. Most cars had MPG ranges in the 20s maybe low 30s.
      Look where we are now almost 20 years later. It's a huge advancement and that's due mostly to hybrid cars and some PHEVs not EVs though their time is coming fast especially with how quickly battery technology is improving.

    Prius buyers have never given a dam about how it looks or how fast it goes; only the mpg. 15 years ago 50 mpg was science fiction so ppl overlooked everything else. Today Euro sport sedans with 300 hp can get 37 mpg hwy so giving up the massive looks, handling, leather, Burmester sound, etc. to get another 13 mpg is a tough sell.

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 Год назад

      The new Prius gets up to 56-57 MPG in the lowest trim, looks cool now, is bigger, and still has much more power than the old Prius. The science fiction continues. I don't know how Toyota does it.
      BTW, it's sneaky how you specifically say 37 mpg hwy. The more accurate metric is Combined MPG. That figure is much lower than 37. Probably more like 30-32 mpg, right? So the real world MPG difference is closer to 25 MPG.

      @nomenclature9607 True, that car got very good MPG, the best for it's time at around 45 MPG combined, but it did it at the cost of significant compromises too. It was a stick, used diesel, lack of sound proofing so very loud, under powered, and it was relatively small by comparison.
      What Toyota has done with this new Prius prime is getting the best MPG without any comprises and more power than ever. It's truly a unicorn car.

I'd stick with the regular HEV over the Prime if choosing between the two.

I normally recommend the normal hybrid to most people. I wouldn't recommend Prime without the full tax rebate I got my 7500 back just a few weeks ago after a year. The cost difference isn't worth it without the rebate. The car does burn a little gas on its own even if you plug it in all the time and don't let EV range run out. The car will show its in EV only on the center screen, but the HUD can be configured so you can see RPMs of the engine and doesn't report to you at all its turned on the engine

    It reminds me of the Chevy Volt which is unmatched in EV range up to now. I don't see why they can't give you that 52 mile range on all plug-in hybrids. Those are useful miles. 29-39 miles of EV range is not a whole lot. When you factor in hills, speed and wind, those 39 miles will be cut down to to around 32 miles on the freeway. Driving in the city will net you 39 or more with regen braking. I know because I drive an Ioniq plug in hybrid. The styling of the Prius is awesome though. I've only seen 1 on the road so far since their release.

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 Год назад +1

      The Volt had better EV range but at the expense of poor MPG. That's the trade off. Why? Because the car has to lug around a heavier battery to get the longer EV range. That heavier battery reduces the MPG when using the gas engine.
      The Ioniq plugin remains one of the most efficient cars to date. It's actually more efficient than the Volt overall because the Ioniq plugin has much better MPG when in hybrid mode.
