My 2020 Prius L ECO now has 372,000 miles. I bought it new. Lifetime average fuel economy is 80.22 MPG. Fantastic car, ZERO issues so far. Original battery, still perfectly strong. Am wanting to buy a new 2024 base model, but only AWD is delivered to the states of WA and OR......so I must travel to Boise or Northern CA to get one. And I am NOT happy that the smallest wheel/tire size is 17 inch......way too big for my taste. Fuel economy is all I care about.....
I think the volume knob was purposely placed to the far right for the passenger. The driver has the controls on the wheel. Nice review, thanks for posting!
The base LE trim has the volume knob on the left. I find it's a lot easier to quickly change the volume with the knob versus the steering controls so I appreciate the placement.
@gyro5080 Our Lexus hybrid was made in Japan. Are you saying that these were not sold in Asian countries? Why would the core components be different? That would cause a logistics nightmare.
I tried really hard to get one in AZ and it was just a pain to deal with Toyota dealers. I spent months trying to find one and then trying to find one at a fair price. I just recently decided to get a Honda CRV Hybrid and cut a deal in 5 emails for $2500.00 off MSRP and no adds.
Im a muscle car guy, every car I’ve owned has been a V8 and the idea of owning a prius was akin to burning the flag to me. After seeing one of these new Prius’s in person I was shocked. It’s actually a beautiful car, and now that I’ve got a long commute to work I’m considering one. It’s a sharp looking car.
@DirtyDanMunicipalMan do it, it's worth it, as i stated elsewhere, i love performance cars, i used to daily a heavily suspension upgraded wrx(still running stock hp) and my commute is very twisty mountain roads, but i switched over to the new prius prime and i love it as a commute car. My x wife has driven priuses since the 2nd gen came out, and I've hated them, but with the new looks, less body roll, and 220hp the new one is legit. I haven't gotten rid of the wrx and still run it in the hills on the weekends and special days, but the prius is surprisingly good, i don't get angry with it like the previous ones
OMG, you don’t want 19” wheels on that car, you WANT 17” wheels for better cushioning against potholes and what not. I can’t stand when any vehicle’s best trims increase the wheel size, but it’s even worse for a Prius.
Good review. I like the bike loading test. We've been driving our new Prius Prime XSE for about 3 weeks now and I've got to say that for both my wife and I the placement of the instrument cluster (MID) is absolutely no problem. I am 6 feet tall and she is 5 foot 4". I also disagree about the difficulty getting in and out of the car. Neither of us find it to be problematic. I guess that these things come down to one's specific body measurements. Bottom line is that people need to test drive this car for themselves. For me as a new Prius driver I totally love this car
i mountain bike and always had small hatchbacks. ive had a honda fit for 14 years now. i even have a long slack bike, the trick i use is to push the passenger seat all the way up, then i take off front wheel and roll bike in backwards so rear tire hits seat. i want to get this car or the corolla hatchbatch, hopefully my bike will fit in ok, i'll take blanket and bike to test before i buy!!
@@dft1Toyota's tnga platforms have improved road handling but reduced cargo on all models involved and the trunk of the Corolla HB is ridiculous...they want to sell their awful Cross , you will be better served with an old Matrix cause they will never send the Corolla estate-wagon to NA , it's a shame
@@cabaneencac5168 lets see if it fits. doesnt take much space since i push passenger seat forward. i need opening a decent size though as handlebars are wide. works great in a Fit
Thanks for the bike test! So many reviewers don't show the utility of the Prius. The new one is smaller inside so showing that you can still get a bike in it is really helpful. I sleep in the back of my 2010 Prius at Burning Man and hope to be able to fit in all I need when I get a 2024 Prius.
I just sold my 20 year old 2004 Prius with over 185,000 miles. Great car. Great mileage. Not cute or fancy but it got me far. It was still working great when I sold it. Only gave it up since it was my only car, didn’t want to push my luck and wanted safety features in a newer version. I now have a 2020 Prius xle awd-e. I miss the larger trunk, 2 glove compartments, large cup holders and spare tire of the 2004. Ha. But clearly the safety features in newer car much needed. May take me years to learn all the newer features. Ha.
I’m a class A commercial truck driver ( Tractor Trailer) . Everybody hates truck drivers! Truck drivers hate Prius Drivers…lol. This new Prius has converted me. I’ve been a 4cylinder turbo car driver for 15 years. I’ve owned two Saabs, a Subaru WRX, and now a Volkswagen Golf GTI. I just recently started car shopping via the internet and this thing caught my eye. I couldn’t believe this was a Prius! I swore I’d never buy a Prius. Now I’m actually excited to get mine. Hopefully by the end of April. I’m not expecting similar performance to the turbos I’ve owned. I am however thinking it’s not a huge drop off. Then you consider its fuel efficiency, and I’m just like wow. I mean seriously? This car is just as quick as a Honda Civic SI, and gets double the fuel economy, and is available in AWD! I saw them in person for the first time this past Monday. It really is a cool looking compact. So yeah, another hater won over by Toyota. In my opinion, they hit a home run on this generation. I’m not racing, tracking, or modifying this thing. But I’ll be able to get around campers on my twisty Mountain Roads when it’s safe to do so! Great video, and great review! Thanks!
I'm in this same boat, I've love performance hot hatches and coupes, running a 2011 WRX hatch(with a lot of suspension, brakes and tire work), and have amateur rallied volvos, GTIs and one Ford Fiesta as well as autocross with a miata. My x-wife has always owned priuses, and I have hated them always, with the exception of the turn radius and cargo space. I now own the 2024 prius prime, and I do really like it. I live in the mountains and commute to the valley daily, so tight windy roads are my staple, and while this is far less capable in the turns than my WRX, the WRX has been purpose built for canyon carving. I think with a slightly wider wheel base, and some wider pilot sport tires this thing could be greatly improved. I don't yet know if they make coilovers for it, but i'm probably not going to do much with this, as my wrx is for fun. But this car doesn't piss me off.
People treat the road like a race track, so naturally power and 0-60 are priorities for them. In a truly civilized society, those factors should not matter beyond the basics.
I agree! I am not interested in these YT vids where they're like 'I usually drive only sports cars and race on the freeway, but did you guys know the Prius is actually a good car?! 😮' It's like yeah we know that Captain Obvious 🥴. I own the '17 Prius. Before this I has that '12 Prius C. I drive a Prius because it's the best value for my money, not because it can race others on the road. I've also never had an issue speeding up or blocking cars from illegally cutting me off (to their surprise and wallet's demise).
That’s interesting. I agree, but they also seem surprised that with it’s sporty design the entry point is lower and the cabin roof is lower I’ve driven a couple of sports cars. I was disappointed that this version was not as roomy as previous Prius, but I’ll gladly trade that for this sexy new silhouette.
Not completely. Does anyone NEED 500+ Horsepower? Not really.. though there's Nothing wrong with it. But cars can be underpowered too. It's Very nice and good to have ample power for passing, getting on the highway etc. I've been in cars that were flat out underpowered and if you needed to pass someone in any sort of timely manner you were just out of luck. That is ridiculous. Not every car needs to me a pony/sports car, but EVERY car should be able to get out of its own way when it needs to.
Order without sunroof. More headroom front and rear. You can easily see the instruments if you adjust seat and steering column carefully. I have had one for 6 months and am 5ft 10.
First time I saw the back end of a red one, I thought it was a supercar. Then I read "Prius". I talked to the driver to give her a complement. Nice. Sporty!
Prime XSE coming next month. Went to Toyota dealer see other models, never ever thought I would get Prius. Salesperson really pushed me to test Prius.. "Ok I can do test drive, but I won't buy it"... After test driving we went to order it 🤣
Great review, thanks! It's like you read my mind. I am 5' 1", and with the driver's seat all the way up, my head was an inch from the ceiling. I just kept looking under the steering wheel to see the instrument cluster. I finally settled on the Corolla Cross Hybrid, which has gotten fantastic gas mileage, and has the same hybrid system as the new Prius. I will go back to a Prius (I've owned 2 over the last 18 years), once they correct that instrument cluster. I love the Corolla Cross Hybrid, but miss the aerodynamics of the Prius.
In my 2004 Prius the steering wheel sits relatively low and is not adjustable. The gauge cluster on that model is towards the bottom of the window so it works like a HUD. The guage cluster on the new one does the same thing. You position the wheel lower to see the cluster over the top of the wheel. Just lower the steering wheel. The audio button is there for the passenger. The driver has the steering wheel control. I'm 5'-11" and have no problem with seeing all the gauge cluster or with the rear seat headroom. The consensus is that it's fine for people 6'-2" and shorter. You seem to be taller. Maybe 6'-3"?
2022 Toyota Prius owner here - I can fit an entire 26" wheel size bike inside my car. I just have to push the passenger seat up a few inches. No need to take off a wheel. Here is a tip. I noticed that you put the bike with the drive side (chain and derailleur) down inside the car. You should have flipped the bike over so that faced up. 1.) putting those down increases the risk of damaging your bike's gears 2) You also risk damage to the car's interior by getting grease/oil on the car's interior from the drive side of the bike.
Diameter of the wheels of a bicycle is not the most important to determine if it's fit in the trunk. Size of the frame matter : 58cm & more ( L , XL ...XXL ), there the difficulty begins. But anyway keep your gen '16-'22 .The new one at a poorly designed opening in relation to the total width of the rear.
@@cabaneencac5168 -update.. I can also fit my entire 25" sized Trek 520 touring bike (large frame - 63.5 cm) with 700c tires into the back of my 2022 Prius LE.
My 2010 Prius fits full sized bikes WITH front tires still attached. Actually a feature I use very frequently. And it saves me the cost and aerodynamic drag of buying a roof or tailgate bike rack. Maybe this generation is a bit smaller due to them chasing efficiency so have to remove the front wheel.
Prius was never "dog slow". Especially accelerating from a stop. BTW, my 2019 Prius XLE gets 56.6 mpg overall, 58.6 in the (mild) winter. I got the car in January 2020. Given being retired, the CVD lockdown, a full tank of gas from dealer, and discounted Kroger gasoline, the $142 vehicle registration ($100 surcharge just for hybrids) cost me more than gasoline the first year. Completely eliminated the benefits of the hybrid that year (cheaper non-hybrid Corolla would have cost the same to operate with cheaper up front cost). Skrew you, Ohio Governor DeWine.
@@davepaturno4290 Oh, I don't regret getting the car at all. I'm just decrying how asinine DeWine is for negating a significant part of incentive to invest extra for a more environmentally friendly car.
@amerlin388 Good point. When we bought our 2006 Lexus RX400h in 2005, CA did provide an incentive or $1000 or $1500. We still have that vehicle but use far less gas since retiring.
Put the steering wheel in the lowest position and look over the steering wheel. I agree about the back seat passenger’s head rubbing the headliner for anyone over 5’10”.
You can adjust the seat height. I am 6' and I can see the cluster no problem. As for the volume button on the right, it's for the passenger more then the driver since yo have a volume control on the steering wheel. The 8" display has the knob on the left side.
@@David_Journey Yes, the steering wheel depth is adjustable (~4"-5" push/pull). I really don't get the dissing review of the new Prius cluster position in many review channels other than their own old preference or resistance to this new change. To optimize viewability of HUD/gauge cluster, you can lower steering wheel all the way down and push it all the way in (as object closer to your face will appear larger in size, so do the opposite). For people who have short height, you could also raise/tilt up the driver seat for clearer view of the road and cluster (assume if you are 6'2" or lower that extra headroom is available). I really dig the new design/position of this new cluster a lot more than centered cluster of the old Prius which for me makes no sense.
We just bought a '24 XLE and think your thoughts are dead on. The styling and dramatically more horsepower coupled with quality fit and finish make the new Prius our first choice, by far. Compared with our just sold '15 Prius the difference is like night and day. I think the Tesla styling is what did it.
Thanks for this, especially for loading the bike, which I wondered about. Because of how they looked, I NEVER would have considered one of these until this model. It simply looks fantastic and futuristic now . . . wow! FYI, I did indeed bang my head getting out of the pre-sold one the dealer let me sit in. Also, the only way to test drive this here in San Diego County is to pre-order one, and drive it when it arrives. And I do not believe you can get one here for sticker price either. They're marked up from $3,000 to $5,000 by the dealers, which I wouldn't pay in a million years. It's long past time for Toyota to find another way to sell their vehicles.
@@J.Young808 I finally got a chance to test drive one, and it was fantastic in my opinion . . . a lot like a sports car actually. However, given the large number of gigantic SUVs and pickup trucks with jackasses behind the wheel here, I've decided it's not for me. I'm going with a Honda Ridgeline.
I agree with you completely about the low ceilings. I used to have a Hyundai Tucson, so you can imagine how many bumps I've had on my head since I began driving a Prius.
I am 6'2". I drove a xle with Power Seats on the driverscside and mechanical on the passengers. While I found the Drivers side a little tight and simply could not ...easily.... get in and out of the passenger side and there was not enough head room once in. Unlike the reviewer, once I got the seat adjusted, I was both comfortable and couldvsee the display in full. (BTW: Until turning it over to one of our kids in December, we had a 2011 Prius we put 232,000 miles on with ZERO issues. GREAT CAR!)
Try climbing in by sitting first with your feet on the ground outside and then swinging around and bringing your feet into the car. I find it much easier and it is supposedly places less stress onto one's spine. Thanks for a good review and keep up the good work.
I own the 2024 XLE, great car. Seems like all the reviews I watch complain about the gage cluster and how the viewing of it is compromised , way overblown I’m 5 foot 9 and I have no problem at all getting a full unobstructed view once you get your positioning properly adjusted. It ain’t rocket science.
The gauge cluster is fine. But they knocked down a couple inches of headroom, so I have to roll the seat back as far as possible. Not sure how this would affect driving. Because, the dealership wants to sell me a car, but won’t allow me to test drive it. 😂
I have one on order and never previously considered one. I was able to test drive one and was impressed. Getting this to save having to replace my truck which has gotten to be an unaffordable prospect. I like the bike test too ;)
I saved so much on gas when I went from my 16 mpg truck to a 21 prius averaging 56 mpg it pays for itself in the gas savings. Only problem with the Prius is that even 20 over the speed limit they still tailgate the hell out of ya. It didn’t matter in the truck the only thing I could see in the rear view mirror was 18 wheelers and other trucks.
@@NovaPrincess umm if you read the post correctly I don’t tailgate anyone and never have. It’s a crime and also very unsafe. When I was driving my truck I didn’t even pay attention to people tailgating because they were unseen over my tailgate. In the Prius I drive now it’s very menacing. I’m gonna remove my rear view wiper and turn around the wiper fluid dispenser and fill wiper fluid bottle with skunk piss and give em a blast when they get too close. You will probably see me on one of those dash cam shorts with that annoying dude spectating the situation.
I wrote to Toyota and told him when I first saw the car on RUclips that there was a major problem with the placement of the odometer. I have the 216 Prius and it’s very easy to see the odometer off to the right. Plus they have heads up display.I am glad that you re-confirmed my observation and I wonder why they would spend millions and millions of dollars to reconfigure this and not realize it. I’ve had three previous Prius and I was planning on buying this. But, with the issue around the odometer, I will probably not bye it And I was so looking forward to upgrading my 2016. So so sad😢
I have the 2023 Prius. I just don't understand the problem people have with seeing the display. Neither myself of my wife have the problem. You do have to take in consideration for height. I am 5'8" my wife is 5'6". I love the car. We came from a 2010 Prius
To make it more sexy they gave it hips which now reduce the width of the tailgate opening. For cargo it is now poorly designed . You are at the wrong car. Poorly designed too for front visibility at 10 & 2 : 'A' pillar are almost horizontal .
I had a 68 VW bug and put my 56 cm road race bicycle and three of us drove to the Nevada City bike race. Bike frame went behind the back seat and wheels in the fronk.
I have a 2023 midrange. I have to have the seat all the way down and I have no problem getting in and out. I have no issues with visualizing the dash. And my volume control is on the driver side. The problems are it is lower than what I like to see out of but once you get used to it it isn’t a problem. The one thing is people passing you on the right or the left really blind you with their headlights. Of course I imagine it’s the same with a Lamborghini. I turn my mirrors way down and that helps and I can still tell when someone is there. During warm weather my wife drives 30 miles round trip in all speed ranges and gets around 61 mpg. Cold weather affects it the most costing 10-12 mpg. For $35k I’d say it’s a good buy
Great review. I would go for the option of solar panels which has been estimated to get 3-4 miles per day (not much, but that is 1000 FREE miles per year). This adds up if you do not drive much or do no drive every day. The solar panel will generate electricity when I'm sitting in traffic (at least I get something when stuck in a commute).
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 GT. I discovered after I bought it that it drove really sporty. Several years ago I drove friend’s Prius and felt it drove like a tank. I hated it. But after seeing a few videos about the new Prius, I would consider buying one.
Still loving my '16 Prius, and it has an actual working moon roof! Lots of room for my bike (I always take the front wheel off anyway) and good headroom inside. Might test-drive a '24 just out of curiosity. Thanks!
I have been a Prius owner since 2004 when we bought our 2004 model. Then again in 2010, 2016 and now 2023. All silver cars. The 2016 car was great never a problem and a constant 62-64 MPG. With only 40K on the clock it was time to change. I ordered a silver XLE in late April and took delivery on the XLE in mid-June. I'm 6-2 and yes getting in is tricky but I'm used to it now. Getting it all programmed was tricky as well. Once Getting only ONE FOB for the car was a shocker and made me feel uncomfortable. They said I "should" get a key before Christmas. When I got it home, I noticed what I thought was a strange LOUD noise from the front end. I stopped by our son's house to show the car and asked about the noise. Yes, it was LOUD and coming from the front of the car. My son RUclipsd the problem and found it is supposed to be there. NO ONE tells you about this "feature". Needless to say, I fixed the "problem". The back storage is much less than my 2016 and getting in and out is way below what my 2016 was. I've got a little over 2k on the clock and the MPG has gone up to 53-55 MPG so it is getting broken in. The car is much quieter than the 2016 and more features than the others. Today I found a locksmith that was able to get me a programed FOB as a spare for $425. Think of it, you lose or damage your FOB, you are stock with a car that you cannot drive. My XLE model has the smaller screen with the volume knob on the left where it should be. I'm getting used to the CarPlay and you have to have a cell phone to male everything work. But the GPD will always be up to date. All in all, I give this model an "okay". Prius@solarbright.com
I went online and saw how to fix it. I took the speaker out that is in the front left side under a shroud that comes off. I went to Amazon and ordered the 3-pound molding clay. I wrapped the speaker in Saran Wrap and then applied about 1/2 inch of the clay around the speaker and then wrapped the entire speaker with heavy duty black duct tape. It makes a huge difference.
No the speaker was not loose. The speaker is the PROBLEM and to lessen the noise you need to do as I posted. You cannot just remove the problem speaker as an error will pop up on the screen. The noise is VERY loud when backing up and half the noise when going forward until you hit 19 MPH. They "claim" all EV's and HEVs have this but I have not heard the noise on any Teslas. So go figure.....
14:00 re. why can't they have a back seat people can actually sit in? Because the traction batteries are under the back seat and the sloping roofline that yields that great look and fuel economy precludes taller back seat passengers than 5'10.
This must be a pre-production version. I have the XLE trim and the volume knob is on the left. The gauge cluster is visible once you adjust the height of the seat. It's is very quick. The Ride is very smooth and comfortable. I drive 4 hours every day, with no problem. Noise is because of the typical CVT but once you reach a certain speed, you wouldn't hear it. If you need to haul a bike, then get a roof rack or an SUV!
I finally was able to get my hands on a Prius Limited. It was delivered to my local Toyota dealer in the morning and I bought it that afternoon. WOW! I still have my 2014 Prius 4 that I bought new and I just can't part with it! 235,000 miles with no repairs. I bought the new one because we travel extensively (retired old fart here!) No comparison when it comes to performance! 200 horses will get you up to freeway speeds in just a few seconds; it's VERY quick! I like the dash in my old Prius better, though. I'm 6'2" so I have to duck my head somewhat to get in but that happens to me with most cars. I'm almost embarrassed at all the looks we get; people just don't know it's "just" a Prius, LOL.
I think if you can get the Prius at list price, it is a good value, but dealers are still jacking up the price, and with the inflated price on the Prius, the Tesla Model 3 starts looking better.
Beautiful looking Hybrid. What bothers me is the 'Block' that you mount a front license plate to, as I never put on front plates and would have to stare at that monstrosity. And the radio knob out of reach. And not being able to get a bike in the back without taking the wheel off. I have a question. Did they program in artificial shifts for the CVT? As always, a good review.✌️
The radio knob on the right is meant for the passenger. The driver has radio controls on the steering wheel. (Agree about that hideous license plate mounting "block?" on the front though.)
I consider the Corolla Touring Sport Hybrid as the true successor to the old Prius. The new Prius is more like a Coupe, with a more compromised interior space, sacrificing the family aspect to a more 'trendy' outlook. It's fine, if that's you want, it's still very efficient, more than the Corolla, comes with PHEV, but it's more expensive, competes with the RAV 4, which would be the more family-oriented proposition in the segment. It's a shame they don't produce the Corolla Touring (Estate model) outside Europe (and I think it's also available in Japan). IMO a better proposition than the hatchback (poor interior space) or the sedan. You'll see them everywhere in Europe, used by Taxis and Ubers.
@@hunterrrdrivesYou can see about Japanese imports, or the Civic E:Hev, the only other type of hybrid I would consider. And the Civic is a better car overall than the Corolla, it's not an estate but it's a fastback with better rear space and boot than the Corolla Hatchback or Sedan. Honda Jazz E;Hev are nice too. Hybridation is mostly to save fuel in city, commuting, and generally milling about. So, need to think if it suits your need as well.
I'm a big fan of the prius now after the remodel, the higher horsepower, angelic like design, the placement of the speedometer and interior gadgets, as well with the great mpg and awd. If I was gonna buy a brand new vehicle I'd seriously be considering getting this in the le trim with the awd.
Great review. I absolutely hate the exact same idiotic interior decisions that you pointed out. Too bad for Toyota because I am loyal to the brand but now would never consider a 2024 Prius.
The haters will NEVER by a Prius no matter what. Instead Toyota alienated us buyers. We bought 3 Priuses and no we will not buy this smaller, similar MPG as the previous, that cost a lot more. The nail in the coffin is order only to buy.
I once moved 1500 miles with all my possessions in the back of my 2008 Prius, including a large computer, desk chair, two suitcases of clothing, and a bunch of other stuff. I once slept in the back of my 2008. I feel like in trying to appeal to Prius Haters, they sacrificed a lot of things that Prius fans have loved, like cargo space, visibility, and practicality. I hope the 2024 or 2025 models fix some of the issues with this generation, like the gage cluster, otherwise my next car will probably be a 2022 Prius Prime
I just had to replace my 08. Got an 09. I have absolutely need for my Prius to be "bananas." It was never "ridiculously slow" and I care a lot about effortless entry and cargo space.
The should have a 2.5 245hp option for a GR prius. I bet it would still get 50mpg. I have a Sienna Hybrid and if I pulse and glide a bit I can get 40mpg even with highway driving. That thing weights 4700lbs. AWD.
Toyota has said the 2024 Prime with the (combined), 220hp can be tuned to produce 300hp if they wanted to create a GR version. Our 24 Prime can reach 60 miles per hour in under 6.6 now.
The US gov is pushing EV cars today, not hybrids which IMO are better since they don't depend on charging stations. So the future from today is hybrids IMO. @@bigmacdaddy1234
Hey, I am still a bit of a hater. My 2021 Toyota Prius Prime and Hybrid are wonderful! Sure, the new one is nice but.... With my old ones, I beat people off of the red traffic light EVERY time! See, I know how to drive them. The new one is faster but do you know how to drive it? The new Prius is lower, making it hard to get in and out of (front and back). It doesn't have a heads-up display anymore. The steering wheel gets in the way of the speedometer display. Also, trying to buy any Prius in many states is like trying to buy a unicorn with a golden horn!
It seems your driving in Colorado at pretty high elevation. Does this really diminish the power? Would you say that driving in mountains with steep grades is the loss of power a real concern or noticeable? My wife's Subaru Forester that has about 180 hp is a total dog and sluggish driving up grades. We are interested in this car but live at 6000 ft elevation. I know cars with turbos seem to be best for mountain communities since they they lose less power in high altitudes but definitely interested in this car. Thanks
Great question. The biggest advantage the Prius has is the electric augmentation. As of course you're aware, the electric motors are not affected by altitude. So, while the gas engine may be down a bit on power, the electric motors in this car really help fill that gap. I drove this car at 5500+ the entire time I had it and always felt like it had enough passing power. Hope that helps!
Well done! There are a lot of reviewers on the Tube but the bike test is, for me, really important and cool and so yeah.. I pushed that subscribe button!
lol "not much road noise", i literally traded my new prius away because it was so road noisy; that car is one of the loudest road noise vehicles in the game
I was quite interested until I saw the risible UK pricing of it - basically 40 grand. You can't get the non plug-in version, which is one reason why it's unreasonably priced and it's FWD-only. I think they reckon everyone will just buy a Corolla instead but it's almost as if someone at Toyota hates the Prius and doesn't want it to sell in the UK - when it's failed to find many takers in a year's time they can say "See! - I told you!".
Had a 2009 and 2017 Prius. Just came back from a 400 mile (mostly 70mph motorway) journey averaging 71mpg!!! I love Prius!!! Looking to replace but DONT want a plug in. Boot space is tiny... no room for golf clubs and trolley now. Sadly I will not be buying this Prius
We are long time Prius owners and are well aware of the great advantages of the older cars as well as their significant disadvantages! Certainly on the surface the new Prius is absolutely gorgeous and in my opinion one of the very best looking cars on the road, period. However one of the most amazing things about the Prius has always been packaging. Even on our 2008 Gen 2, the back hatch area is cavernous, the back seat is spacious. The outward visibility is fantastic and it's just super easy to drive like a little go-kart. Now I perfectly agree with people who think that that old car is slow and homely. True. All is not wine and roses with the new one however, they made a lot of compromises to get that sleek look. The trunk getting smaller the rear seat certainly smaller, the front seat as you say with the low headroom and the doorway. Personally I would rather have 60 or 70 miles per gallon instead of 200 hp. But the worst thing is the company Toyota. They are not building remotely enough of these cars, they're very hard to find on the lot for test drive, Toyota has become an order-and-wait company pretty much. And the dealer markups and real world end prices are out of hand. The attitude of Toyota the company and the dealers is that they are a super premium brand and that people will basically jump through any hoops they need to in order to get a Toyota. I mean hello it's Toyota not Ferrari. Also the hybrid thing was great technology 20 years ago. Get up over 100,000 miles like we have on our Prius and you start to see all the complexity and all the things that can go wrong with these systems. We have found that they are not as reliable as their reputation. We ended up getting a VW ID.4. Second choice was Tesla. I mean it's 2024 and they still don't have an all-electric Prius. I just don't understand it.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Toyota seems to be getting a bit arrogant these days. They are trying to create scarcity for the new Prius to somehow increase demand, but it seems to be a self defeating strategy. After more than a year since the initial release, I have seen only 2 of these cars on the road. Over the same time, I’ve seen hundreds of Teslas and many are brand new too. Now I think I know why. Compare the price of a Tesla Model 3 with the new Prius Prime (dealer markup included) and they are about the same. The huge dealer markup, lack of availability and a competitive alternative in the Model 3 seem to be stunting Prius sales significantly. The scarcity strategy seems to be backfiring.
I just finished my 35th move, which was roughly 43 miles 1 way, and used my '23 Prius for everything except the larger furniture that wouldn't break down enough to fit. If I had a roof rack, I would've used that (keeping the weight limits in mind, however) because I hate being that friend that asks to use another friend's truck. Using one of my best traits, spatial reasoning, I stuffed this car, and took several trips. The mpg alone saved me $$ as opposed to renting a truck, but I still missed my old '94 Toyota pickup. With that said, had I known that I was going to need to move, I wouldn't have bought this car. It's not very comfortable for trips longer than an hour. The infotainment system messes up a lot. Weird things happen, like I use the seat heaters all the time (upstate NY), and their setting stayed ON until next time I started the car. This was great! Well, now sometimes they're OFF when I start the car.. like yesterday, it was OFF every stinkin time SMH. Same thing happened with the air recirc... I always have it set to recirc the air in the cabin, mainly because I hate smelling the exhaust of the vehicles in front of me.. it worsens my headaches. Lately it's switched itself to pull in fresh air, but not every time. It's friggin frustrating. Idk man, I love working on cars, and still have my mr2 turbo that I bought in 2000... but now I'm a single dad and I don't have time. I just need s##t to work hahaa!
I have switched from sedan to SUV (Mazda), but that Prius is WOW beautiful. Maybe someday if I get a 2nd vehicle, this would be my first choice, especially for my 34 mile commute.
maybe the knob on the monitor/screen is on the right but in japan where they drive on the opposite side of the road it is still on the right side. sort of a leftover if you will
I onoy clicked on this because i seen the bike and want to know more haha. also the prius looks wildly awesome. Something i never ever thought i would say.
I have owned Prius for 12 years and I ran to buy this new model, but the loss of headroom was a dealbreaker for me. Getting in and out was a pain. I’m afraid I will have to switch to the Corolla Harchback.
Actually, hybrids are out-selling EVs, not because of the battery range of the hybrid, but because their ranges are much higher and if they are made by Toyota/Lexus, are more reliable and less expensive to insure.
I have a 2015 Prius. The latest Prius lacks headroom and overall space when compared to my 2015. That is a deal breaker which is to bad. I like everything else about the new Prius
The issue is whether it has enough headroom and cargo space for you. I'm 5'-11" and have no problems with headspace in the front or back. The cargo floor is more shallow but is it really too shallow for the majority of stuff you regularly use it for? Not in my case. BTW, I still have my 2004 Prius I bought new 19 years ago for $33,000 fully loaded. Had to pay $3000 over MSRP because everyone wanted that model back then too.
prius owner since 07'. I really thought 2024 I'd have the new Prius, but heads on the ceiling in the backseat is a definite no :( I'm okay w/ the rattle of a Corolla. It's still Toyota
The real question is considering that a majority of the people who own prius's do ride share or are taxi drivers is? Will this continue to be the versatile car that the old one was for those people? Or is the market share for the Prius going to go down now because they decided to go with that look and cut off roof space moderately for people in the front of the car and considerably huge amounts for people in the back of the car as a ride share driver now I given how much less space is in the back of that car for cargo and passengers would not really consider it based on my current needs. If I were to spend the money on a brand new car I would be going for a 2022 Prius because it still has the versatility to meet my needs or if I was going 2023 or new or it would be a Corolla hybrid because you're not sacrificing headroom although the trunk space compared to a Prius still kind of sucks.
mine cost $44k. anyone find one for $30? my dealer tagged on a $3500 charge for securing a car in this market of high demand (there were no 2023 on any lots in oklahoma or texas so no test driving possible) and another $1000 delivery charge. it is a sweet ride. very sporty but not intuitive.
Have has 2 Priuses and have never considered them slow.....if you want them to go fast you just press the power button......currenty own a 2020 Prius prime....compared it with the new one.. . And decided not to upfrade yet.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i do not consider my prius ugly....but yes, functional.....it is more aerodynamic and more comfortable inside than the new one.......no problems with the steering wheel blocking my view of the dash.....also the dash is very busy with information.....i will be keeping mine a few more years .....
Explain to me how I drove 228k miles in 4 years for Uber & Lyft with a 7-year old "slow" Prius. These cars have a power button mode and when activated they can be very speedy.
I drive Prius, I know how much comfort and reliability it offers. Best investment in this ever growing inflation and recession era, where gas price is increasing
My 2020 Prius L ECO now has 372,000 miles. I bought it new. Lifetime average fuel economy is 80.22 MPG. Fantastic car, ZERO issues so far. Original battery, still perfectly strong. Am wanting to buy a new 2024 base model, but only AWD is delivered to the states of WA and OR......so I must travel to
Boise or Northern CA to get one. And I am NOT happy that the smallest wheel/tire size is 17 inch......way too big for my taste. Fuel economy is all I care about.....
That’s a lot of mileage in 4 years. You must love driving
Do you really drive it 90k miles a year...?
I think the volume knob was purposely placed to the far right for the passenger. The driver has the controls on the wheel. Nice review, thanks for posting!
The base LE trim has the volume knob on the left. I find it's a lot easier to quickly change the volume with the knob versus the steering controls so I appreciate the placement.
I think it is for the RHD version since it is made in Japan?
The passenger is not authorized to touch the controls 😂
THE CONTROLS R FOR ME THE OWNER.
@@jackmcandle6955freaking right I break their fingers. I get pissed.
Prius has the best hybrid system, period.
All Toyota/Lexus vehicles have the best hybrid system, not just the Prius.
In USA only they have the best hybrid sysytem , but outside it a MEH.
@gyro5080 Our Lexus hybrid was made in Japan. Are you saying that these were not sold in Asian countries? Why would the core components be different? That would cause a logistics nightmare.

They have been doing it for 30 years now
I tried really hard to get one in AZ and it was just a pain to deal with Toyota dealers. I spent months trying to find one and then trying to find one at a fair price. I just recently decided to get a Honda CRV Hybrid and cut a deal in 5 emails for $2500.00 off MSRP and no adds.
Everything in life is a negotiation
Im a muscle car guy, every car I’ve owned has been a V8 and the idea of owning a prius was akin to burning the flag to me. After seeing one of these new Prius’s in person I was shocked. It’s actually a beautiful car, and now that I’ve got a long commute to work I’m considering one. It’s a sharp looking car.
I agree with you.
I completely agree
15 is the best for save gas
I hear you, I live in Canada. We don’t want those bum floss wheels, useless.
makes the car look nicer though
@lasereyes7349 they should start putting 27" wheels on cars, like those on my Walmart bicycle. That would look awsome!
Happy to hear you're enjoying the car!
i mountain bike and always had small hatchbacks. ive had a honda fit for 14 years now. i even have a long slack bike, the trick i use is to push the passenger seat all the way up, then i take off front wheel and roll bike in backwards so rear tire hits seat. i want to get this car or the corolla hatchbatch, hopefully my bike will fit in ok, i'll take blanket and bike to test before i buy!!

I’ve always hated how the prius looked but this one… sexy
I love the styling. Finally a Prius that isn’t ugly. My only wish is that the back seat had more head room.
Ha.
The best safety feature is YOU, the driver.
I had a 2010 and a 2014. I miss the dual glove compartments in that 2010 too.
0-60 time is important for short on-ramp runs.
this is one of those guys you always get stuck behind putt putting around holding up the rest of the world.
Order without sunroof. More headroom front and rear. You can easily see the instruments if you adjust seat and steering column carefully. I have had one for 6 months and am 5ft 10.
For 2024 only the base model is available without the Sunroof.
(Being 6'2", but had NO issues with my beloved 2011)
What happened to it after 6 months? Replace it with something better?
The bike test is the ultimate test. Every reviewer should do it.
Glad you enjoy!
Meh. That bike could’ve fit in the Prius without removing the wheel if he would’ve turned it around and put the handles in first.
@@EatSleepDrivewill it fit if you put down the passenger seat without taking the wheel off?
My steering in my 2002 is adjustable and I fit comfortably inside without hitting the roof.
I saw that too. I put front wheel in 1st and cant it upwards. No wheel off in a 2019 prius.
They are slow 30mph and above. Electric is instant power so you do get a little jump off the line but that fades quickly.
You should look at the costs for 10 years or more. The average buyer keeps his or her vehicle for 12 years.
Is the steering wheel depth adjustable? I see all reviewers only adjust tilt
I saw a Tesla Model 3 and new Prius parked near each other at a Toyota dealership. The Prius looks far, far better than the bulbous Tesla.
It’s a bit of a drive but I would suggest looking at Wilsonville (Oregon) Toyota and drive it back to San Diego County
GREAT CAR!)
Never thought a new prius would make the interior of my 2018 prius prime look huge it passed the no disassembly bike test
Try climbing in by sitting first with your feet on the ground outside and then swinging around and bringing your feet into the car. I find it much easier and it is supposedly places less stress onto one's spine. Thanks for a good review and keep up the good work.
Any doctor will tell you that's the best way to get in and out of a car. I'm 6' 2'' and I just swing in and out so far with no probkems.
I do that and bang my shoes together to knock off snow, ice or gravel/ dirt and then swing my clearer shoes into the car.
I do a similar technique to sit I'm my Supra, and I'm a senior citizen. The key is to stay healthy by exercising and eating good foods.
I adjusted the steering wheel with my 2024 XLE Prius
I would think that angling the seat back would do the trick.
@@michaelbassett5105This is karma for all the years YOU were tailgating us Prius drivers in your truck. 😂
You wrote to Toyota based on what you saw on RUclips? Wow.
Have you test drive a new one yet?
Honestly!! The best thing about this videos is the “bike test” no kidding! if the car won’t fit my bike I will not even look at it twice
I put 2 racing bikes in our COROLLA in ether trunk or back seat! I’m no lazy to remove the wheels,,,,,
To make it more sexy they gave it hips which now reduce the width of the tailgate opening.
Then maybe you should but a truck
@@Andrea-sf4bs I thought about that. I just got a maverick ford 2022… 3 days ago
If you put the front wheel of the bike in first, no bike disassembly is required.
I could never understood why all EVs aren’t required to have solar charging. You can’t charge from an outlet in the city.
@@user-tb7rn1il3qa wall putlet is too slow solar is sig ificantly slower its pointless imo
The volume button is there purposely to allow you to see the missing information on the gauge cluster when you lean a bit forward and to the right. 😉
It looks pretty good. I would have never considered a previous model, but this one is not a hard no.
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 GT. I discovered after I bought it that it drove really sporty.
Several years ago I drove friend’s Prius and felt it drove like a tank. I hated it.
But after seeing a few videos about the new Prius, I would consider buying one.
Mazdas are also excellent/reliable vehicles. I've had many over the years, and still have a Miata to compliment my new Supra.
What was the loud noise feature and how did you fix it?
I went online and saw how to fix it. I took the speaker out that is in the front left side under a shroud that comes off. I went to Amazon and ordered the 3-pound molding clay. I wrapped the speaker in Saran Wrap and then applied about 1/2 inch of the clay around the speaker and then wrapped the entire speaker with heavy duty black duct tape. It makes a huge difference.
@@johnwirth4146 So the problem was that they didn't mount the speaker properly and it was loose?? That is terrible process engineering!
@@johnwirth4146 It's supposed to have "JBL Premium speakers." I guess JBL is passing off cheaply made speakers as premium?
Great review when a person can speak for 3 minutes without pausing or saying um is very impressive
I ordered an LE. I can change the wheels later. I need cloth seats and a good sound system.
4:34 Volume dial is on the right so that the passenger can more easily reach it. The driver can use the volume control buttons on the steering wheel.
I bought one in January. Love it
14:00 re. why can't they have a back seat people can actually sit in? Because the traction batteries are under the back seat and the sloping roofline that yields that great look and fuel economy precludes taller back seat passengers than 5'10.
It is definitely more like a sports car than a people mover. It’ll be interesting to see which new car brand Uber drivers and taxi drivers will pick.
Price is the biggest issue
This must be a pre-production version. I have the XLE trim and the volume knob is on the left. The gauge cluster is visible once you adjust the height of the seat. It's is very quick. The Ride is very smooth and comfortable. I drive 4 hours every day, with no problem. Noise is because of the typical CVT but once you reach a certain speed, you wouldn't hear it. If you need to haul a bike, then get a roof rack or an SUV!
4 hours a day? I'd have switched jobs years ago!
BTW, if that model had the 360 camera, it means it also had the digital rear view mirror for better visibility out the back.
Then get the Rav4 hybrid. The Prius no longer has to be both the practical and econobox for all as it was in the beginning.
The radio knob on the right is meant for the passenger. The driver has radio controls on the steering wheel.
(Agree about that hideous license plate mounting "block?" on the front though.)
@phillipbanes5484 hey Phil... some states only issue one plate for the rear, no front plate.
Agree though... looks like a solid spot to mount one. 👍🏽
@@phillipbanes5484 Single-plate States don't sell a second plate as an option.
Why would anyone put a plate up front if it's not required?! Especially on a car who's primary focus is efficiency?
I had a 2010 Prius before and I was able to load 2 bikes w/o removing any parts of the bike.
i still have my 2010 prius, 295k km, still running, still original battery.
Would help if you say how tall you are & how much you tried to accommodate the view of the cluster by adjusting seat height
Good point, the new one really is like a coupe.
@@EatSleepDrive 08 solara is 16 years old Prius has me thinking
Sounds like they got themselves a buyer. Now you have to find a dealership that’s actually interested in selling you a 2024 Prius. 😂
Got an 09. I have absolutely need for my Prius to be "bananas." It was never "ridiculously slow" and I care a lot about effortless entry and cargo space.
best new prius review video!
Glad you liked it!!!
Good points on ingress and egress for Taller people. BTW where are you driving around? It looks like a beautiful town
Hybrids are the future, we have a Venza, gets 40 MPG. No charging headaches. They should work on alternative fuels.
Toyota is.
Future? They have been around for years. What rock have you been living under?
The US gov is pushing EV cars today, not hybrids which IMO are better since they don't depend on charging stations. So the future from today is hybrids IMO.

I got the 2024 prius LE 3 days ago. I put tint on all the windows and im ordering seat covers on amazon prime day in october 😂
That blocked instrument cluster by the steering wheel is ridiculous! Thanks for the video!
Lowered the steering wheel on my 2024 Prius XLE. Problem resolved.
I'm 5'11 and have zero issue seeing the cluster. Push the wheel in a little, that works just fine.
Thank you your reply. Your experience driving the Prius in the mountains and info does help for sure. Thanks again. @@EatSleepDrive
Get a Tesla 3. It's cheaper too.
As a cyclist I greatly appreciate the bike fit test!!! Hope you do that in all your reviews…
What a review!!!

Also, for tall people, I would advise not getting the sunroof cause it will leave you with less headroom.
Well done! There are a lot of reviewers on the Tube but the bike test is, for me, really important and cool and so yeah.. I pushed that subscribe button!
Thanks for the kind words and sticking around!
Many cars cant fit a bike!
The best, I just bought one, pearl white! loving it!!
lol "not much road noise", i literally traded my new prius away because it was so road noisy; that car is one of the loudest road noise vehicles in the game
Thank you for the informative unbiased review. I am debating between the Corolla Hybrid and the Prius so this helps.
Can you mount bike rack? 2010-15 it’s yes, but for 2016 and up top of trunk door is glass
I have switched from sedan to SUV (Mazda), but that Prius is WOW beautiful. Maybe someday if I get a 2nd vehicle, this would be my first choice, especially for my 34 mile commute.
Great review. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
maybe the knob on the monitor/screen is on the right but in japan where they drive on the opposite side of the road it is still on the right side. sort of a leftover if you will

I feel your pain. Seems like a weird oversight to me by Toyota. Enjoy the Corolla hatch, they're great cars!
I have this car. It’s awesome but the trunk space is practically gone
If you need plenty of trunk space and more passenger room, the Camry hybrid is a great choice. It just doesn't look as sporty as the Prius.
Had a 2018 Prius Prime....I loved it.
Driving an Ioniq 5 now. Also love it.
Prius just needs more range on the battery.
Actually, hybrids are out-selling EVs, not because of the battery range of the hybrid, but because their ranges are much higher and if they are made by Toyota/Lexus, are more reliable and less expensive to insure.
@@davepaturno4290 I understand the Prius has more range....but with gas. I owned both cars...actually!
@kevin6550694 Which would you prefer if buying one, today?
For me the new Prius look is perfect. I would love to own one.
Awesome ride! 😊

kind of liking the new prius, but i rather have hatch back practicality and have it look more like a hatchback then it is a sports car.
prius owner since 07'. I really thought 2024 I'd have the new Prius, but heads on the ceiling in the backseat is a definite no :(
I'm okay w/ the rattle of a Corolla. It's still Toyota
Can you put a hitch and pull more than just a bike rack?
What state is that? Nice mountains
Why not a Hyundai Ioniq hybrid? More storage space, better gas mileage, more fun to drive, looks better, and is cheaper? Or you just anti Hyundai?
I agree the ioniq is a great alternative

Explain to me how I drove 228k miles in 4 years for Uber & Lyft with a 7-year old "slow" Prius.
These cars have a power button mode and when activated they can be very speedy.
They do jump from about 0-30 it’s from 30-70 they start to whine and 70 plus they just cry.
