Even when you complete the Château with all its elegance I would retain those doors as a reminder of your achievements
yes, and could be used on any outbuilding that he may build in the future
They will definitely come in useful somewhere.
@@endeavouringit yes they’d make great barn doors or gates
He could always use them on an outbuilding. They are magnificent. Though I would paint them against the elements even if they are temporary.
Has anybody else noticed that Dan is much stronger than a year ago?
Reminds me so much of my son who is a joiner. Skinny build with the strength of an ox.
Absolutely! Who needs a gym? Buy a chateau ruin instead.
Oh , yeah....
Those doors could handle arrows and battle axes. Great job.
What if the Battle Axe 🪓 is an Irish ☘️ redhead?
Better than Netflix!! again.. THANKS!
Good Morning Dan, what a bloody pair of doors, certainly ones that will last another 200 years👍🇫🇷🏰
I hope he uses these doors somewhere else if he says he's going to have oak doors in the finished chateau. They ARE well made, strong heavy doors.
I'd like to know, who exactly is going to hang any of the doors? 😂
You are so smart. When do you think you’ll have the structural part of the chateau completed?
@mumfordhound8518 Who do you think the structural engineer is going to be? I wouldn't want to sign off on any of the load-bearing walls or anything else for that matter!
@@NSGca Why?
Dan you are Superman!! Unbelievable! Congratulations on your new doors! Every step is so much progress!! You have a room in your Chateau and it has a door!!!!
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂‼️🇨🇦
I just read ‘Fanny’s Journey’ (‘Le Voyage de Fanny’ ) it’s a remarkable account of survival and salvation in that Fanny, aged 13 takes responsibility for a growing group of Jewish children and leads them to safety in Switzerland. She had previously spent 3 years at Chaumont where she was given extra tuition in poetry and literature by her ‘surveillante’ I think, house mother would be the best translation for this lovely woman. She recognised that Fanny was a specially gifted child and encouraged her to nurture her talents.
She made sure the children could safely forage, read maps and get direction from reading the night sky. These survival skills proved vital to the survival of Fanny’s group later. Full marks to Chaumont!
Dan. That has to be an amazing feeling to say “I have a room”. Finally. Congratulations on many to come.
For temporary doors , you sure built them to last !
Temporary doors, we know what that means.
Yeah temporary, they're only needed for 400 years or so. ;)
LOL, what makes you think they are temporary?
What gule is that??
Ridiculous
Looooorrrddd I just about had a heart attack. I looked up and saw that “plant?” Hanging down and thought it was a giant spider! Until my logical brain took over and said “ no spider is THAT big”!
Same here! 😂
Exacly what I came to say. Freaked me out and I'm not even afraid of spiders. Ha Ha , that's no spider hee hee phew.
even with the warning, my hair stood on end.
*Australia has entered the chat*
😄 Must have been an awful creepy sight for those watching on TV...looked even BIGGER on TV!
I think we need an ‘ Awesome’ button for Dan not just a ‘ like ‘ , amazing what you are achieving Dan, what a great role model for your little guys. Well done 👍
Suggestion: Lap the doors where they meet. Since you have to trim them a bit anyway, use the router to take the full overhang of half of the depth on opposite sides (inside and outside). Then the rain won’t get through any gap, and you can increase the amount taken off if you get swelling in more humid weather, and not end up with a gap when they shrink again as life becomes less humid again.
Safety goggles, Dan when sanding metals, etc! Your US eye nurse!
He's a dick. He's actually said he actively won't wear them. He's a bell end.
Also a mask, but he won't do either like usual. I wish he would so he wouldn't regret it in 20 years.
This!
Yes....some of us always are mothers!
It only takes a millisecond to realize you should have been wearing safety glasses.
Yes, it's a proper thing, Well done, the first door, the first rafters and the first waterproof room. The attic was a brute of a job, not many could have pulled off all that lugging and carrying and the maths, never mind hanging off the rafters to weather proof the roof. Super Dan! 😎
Proper woodworking like this is a joy to behold!
Dan, one of the things I love about watching your progress it that no matter what you do, you do it like a pro. You’re just amazing to watch. It makes me smile to see you upload a new video because I’m about to get a lesson from a pro and that’s always interesting. It’s just a joy to watch you guys working hard🙏
Yep I can get distracted with ocd nonsense thank God Dan can focus that’s one reason he gets so much done successfully I can learn from him
The Rendering of those two doorpost walls was a pivotal moment. Great satisfaction among your thousands of viewers was registered, knowing that many square meters of rendering must come in time. Beautiful job with the doors !
Oh Dan, I so adore when you use those technical terms: like 'smushed'.
shmushed
It makes your heart melt, doesn't it...❤
😂❤
Those roots and plant material drive my OCD crazy! Doors look great! Anything worth doing is worth overdoing!
From one suffering OCD to another, I grasp what you're saying! 😂
Me too, I was saying can't you pull those out first, before spraying the beam.
Make do with the de rendering, rerendering…pretty tidy and satisfying…
When he was rendering, I thought they were a giant spider! 😱
@Endeavouringit, some of these roots are holding the crumbling masonry together. He’s better to leave them there until he gets to repairing that wall section.
Always positive, always can-do, always learning, always accomplishing! Many, many people need to learn this! thanks for showing everyone how it's done!
Well made solid wood doors are HEAVY!
I am very impressed with the doors and that you followed my advice to get that attic room sealed up!
I think he knows that now, he should have assembled them upstairs, it was only putting them together and bashing some pegs in and cutting them off, but he will get there!?!
Was satisfying seeing the crumbling walls replastered and doors up! Well Done!
Bravo dan ce château 🏰 à une âme bisous Bernard et à bientôt
Now all you have to to ( as spring is upon us ) is try to stop the birds getting in and making nests
Good point, birds, bats and that family of wasps or bees
Our barns are full of swallows every year,We love them but yes agree as the birds return each year to the same place
The new doors are looking good! There’s nothing you can’t do, Dan. 👏👏👏 🚪
A very special day in the history of the chateau. Congratulations, Dan!👍💐
“With the worlds slowest winch”😂😂😂😂 That winch has kicked ass and taken names for a long time. ❤❤❤❤
😵💫🫣😡Protect your ears and eyes. always!
💔Your dream of a château ends very quickly. 💔
Beautiful job , first thing on TV I look for you 😊😎 Looks like King Arthur could walk through those doors any minute …
It's a marathon... and you are rocking it👍
Yeah, a Marathon not a Sprint. All in due time.
The doors are fantastic, best thing is, when you are finished with them, you could use them elsewhere, maybe in an outbuilding, so well worth the effort.
Dan, so glad you finally got a "Hudson Sprayer" to do the wetting down. I remember watching you spill water bottles for so long.
Crack on!!
Yes, he's posh now. A year ago, he started clearing out the entrance hall with orange pants man with only one shovel and 1 wheelbarrow between them. But he didn't have the 453,000 followers, then bless him. I am so pleased for him. Every new piece of kit he can now afford to buy makes every job easier and quicker for him. All well deserved, too.
@@debbiem3146 Crack on, Dan. Put Tile on that roof before the Paper gets destroyed in the weather...
In the world of historic houses those hinges are called pintles - lots of them in medieval castles.
Quite an accomplishment today ,especially doing it by yourself! Amazing Dan!
I don't watch TV but I do watch you. Love your videos.
I was strangely captivated by the whole doors going in thing. Brilliant.
To think you were shown how to mend window frames a few months ago, your on fire.
You are gong to have another 3 years of major build. When your all said and done, will be something to admire!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
6 years, and 3 years for fit out!?!
I think you might be looking through some rose colored glasses! Lol. Dan by himself might be there for twice that long! Things progress slowly on finsh carpentry with only one person. Did I say slow going?
His optimistic attitude is infectious Stay the course Dan!.😊
I'm looking forward to Dan & Sons videos.
Yeah, seems like only one quarter to one third of the roof is up, then the windows and doors then.. the big and hard stuff... the place needs proper flooring, water, electricity, and plumbing. I am rooting for him but he has years left to go. And one more thing the place doesn't have a public sewer system, and there are things you can do as far as that goes but you need someone who knows what they are doing. It not a one man job and it's not just digging a hole putting some gravel in covering it up and laying out pipes from the building to it and covering it up with dirt. Modern septic systems are complicated high tech and not do it yourself stuff. I am sure with a little help he will manage though. help
Dan your editing and cinematography is first class, and those doors are sturdy i couldnt help noticing your muscles may be bigger than Amaury's now 😆😆😆😆🤭🤭🤭🤭
In medical school it was 6:25 "See one, do one, teach one" whenever learning a new procedure.
Watching Dan covering the bricks reminds me of the old days at the little house.
I often think of the little house as a real challenge in itself Dan must have learned a lot to apply to the château
I urge all followers to find episode 18 from 3 years ago when Dan visited the château with his family. Little did he know that 2 years later he would own that château.
Let's get Dan to 500k subscribers asap
WOW Dan your skills are growing with leaps and bounds. Your skills are getting up there with Amaury. He must be so proud of his friend. A real room in the burned out chateau, who would have thunk. 😃
A roof, a roof, what this Chateau needs is a Roof!
I would like to see, some block and Stone Masons come together to help get a Roof on here, before that beautiful archway Falls down! Really like the Doors.
The work you do by yourself, and, of course, with friends, is so impressive! I look forward to every one of your videos. Your new workshop and new tools make me very jealous and I’m sure make your life much easier. The work you have done thus far is nothing short of amazing. Take Care!!😊
Ditto!
I have been following this ruin rebuild since the beginning having seen Dan on LaLande with Stephanie. What an amazing journey this has been and no doubt a million eyes on the project is not far in the future. Thank you for the educational and entertaining channel. Ps. 8:5 says about the creation of man and prophetically about Jesus: "You made him a little lower than godlike ones, (angels who are powerful), and you crowned him with glory and splendor." (See also Hebrews 2:7,9). In our imperfect, fallen state, we have some idea of the abilities our Creator gave us. It is beautiful to see them displayed in the masterful work Dan is accomplishing.
Great doors well done impressive. Huge progress great to watch and follow
Wow a room after 50 years. Go you!
Dan ,dang that's some beautiful doors great job. My Dad was a carpenter and he built 2 doors like yours and 40 years later they still look beautiful and work well.😊
Now that’s a big door❤
Doors to the strong room!😊
It’s amazing that there are still roots everywhere. Really shows how overgrown the whole place was.
Wello Done Dan....another milestone!!!!! Great Doors...Nice!!!!!!!!
Love to see all the woodwork, must feel good to have the right tools! Certainly You have the right Approach, learning by doing. Just start👍🏼
Nice Job ! I was there with you. When you lugged the doors off. In spirit.
I would make some the centre roof out of glass and that would be my patio.
It would be so beautiful to see fr up there
Just needs a 2 degree taper on the mating edges and then you can probably close them. Add a stop to one door and a latch into the ceiling on the other and you can use one door most of time time and it will stop against the stationary one.
Use a pastry bag to push the lyme into the crevices with ease. Saves time and saves materials.
Fantastic idea!! 👏👏👏
You really need a staircase in ASAP
You could get that darn tree stump out of the wall!
Those are some solid doors!
This one man show is so inspiring! I just bought an old house that needs a lot of work and seeing this man work on this huge project makes me think that I will be just fine.
Lots of success, good to have this inspiratiom😊
Traumatised by the spider on the camera when u were knocking off the old plaster 🤪
I like the fact that you can still see tree roots in the walls (at the 9:50 mark). Reminds me of the early on episodes.
What a difference a door makes!
Love the door, only time will bring it down. Great job.😊😊😊
That's one hell of a day man ! Keep it up 👍👍👍
Needing lights is a nice problem to have. Room number 1.
It's heavy, now get it up to roof. Good job
Those doors are a work of art! ❤
I love the new chisel set ! beautiful set
You are remarkably proficient at a huge variety of techniques. Well done - I love that you are doing most of it yourself.
Dan, I have to admit, I get worried when you are working alone and don't post the vlog until later in the day. Take care!
Stop worrying.
If you are in the US all his uploads are gonna be in the evening due to the time adjustment.
I know you don’t mean to put pressure on him and I’m not even sure if he IS pressured but I try to keep that in mind. He is a tough strong grown man who is loved by many and you are probably one of them as well. I’m impressed he has the time to post at all!
@@JusticeLuvr I am not pressuring. I just worry.
I will just take it as it goes. Sorry to concern anyone.
Seeing as they are in the attic, I would leave them there. Give them a bit of a sand and slap on some Osmo (Billy Petherick swears by it) and you have a lovely pair of protected doors.
Dan, what a great achievement to make and fit those impressive doors. That's another major tick for thr château. Onwards.
The doors look amazing. Great job. See you tomorrow.
My dream job would be to design the functionality of your castle! All that space and beauty and you can literally do ANYTHING! It would be fun for all of us who watch you faithfully from the start to be in a contest with you releasing a floor plan with your room designations and then those who wish to could add ideas before you get to that stage. There’s so many creative and fun people here it could help you design your perfect castle! Please really think about it.
Consider all the kids that'll be going there too! THOUSANDS! every summer! yea! I can't wait to see how he's gonna work that up!!! FUN!!!
Lol.
you are thinking wayyy too muchhh ahead! he does not even know which floor level is going to be in again...
@@stizelswik3694 How do you know thousands of kids will be going there every summer. Did Dan promise that?
He may decide to live the quiet life or go onto another project and sell the chateau as a private residence.
You can't tell what will happen!
@@MakeYourOwnMotorhome I don't know about "thousands" but Dan said in a magazine article that he intended it to be his home and that hoped to run camps for underprivileged young people. This would honour the history of the chateau.
Quel beau travail du bois félicitations pour tout ce travail de titan que vous effectuez avec beaucoup de courage 💪💪👍👏😉💜💚
Bless you for the time-lapse video of the tedious stuff - I wish some of the other vlogs would follow suit. We don't need to watch a 30-minute episode with 20 minutes of brush strokes. And the shorter videos are good, too, by the way. A 10-12 minute daily catch-up to track your progress is great. Thank you!
Great doors solid ! keep going dan . come on 500,000😀
The one side looks great from this side!
Big Dan, those are two awesome doors, be proud of yourself, can't wait to see the next set, we'll see ya tomorrow
They should be another highlight to the upstairs rebuild, not temporary.
Man those doors look awesome
Love the double doors looks great Dan.
Dan the doors are too heavy! Beautiful!
The doors are fabulous!
Another great achievement Dan, when one door closes another opens! Opps, were was I. Great job done. Plenty more to do. Stay well.
Congratulations Dan xx
Yeah well done. It amazes me how u have managed to do most of the work by ur self. X
How you managed to get those heavy doors up and hung is amazing. Bravo, good job done.👌
Those are some nice doors!
I know how it feels when you start to work on new techniques and it works out.
The doors looks good.
You done a great job building those doors
I’m just so jealous of the way you give anything at all a go and end up doing it so well even if it’s a first time effort.
That is a really nice door. You cannot buy that sort of quality now unfortunately - unless you pay through the nose. Well done!
It's really satisfied g to build with mortise and tenons, dados, pegs in the old methods. One of my last large projects....timber truss for overhanging eave, and two antique screendoors for French doors. Turned out so nice, wanted to keep them! For a beginning woodworker Dan ....... super good work!
Your determination and consistency are truly admirable. 🙌
Those look sturdy and wonderful. Good job 👏 😊
Did anyone else want him to get rid of that big black huntsman spider in the corner??
(I know it’s not a huntsman but 😱😱 it sure looks like one!)
Great job done first room yay. Love your doors
Fabulous doors!
