Well she can't speak when she was llitte because she wasn't the real person. But the longer she was on the surface and her lungs I used to breathe in the fresh oxygen that's how she was able to learn and speak by watching impatiently letting her lungs build up to talk.. And since her son was part a shadow person he could mimic and control his doppelganger he was learning that and looking and paying attention when it was in the closet that's how you know it was a trap and that's why read tell them don't burn the house down because she knew he knew how to play with matches or fire whatever. I don't know Cody I'm just trying to make sense of it all. But I think that she was down there for so long that she was just adjusting to that life

I thought people saw that “Adelaide” was actually the REAL Red this entire time because, in that mirror house, she switched places with the real Adelaide and lived HER life-so the entire time we’re following Red as the protagonist (even though she’s the tethered person) and the supposed antagonist is Adelaide...who we all thought was Red.
That means the kids “Adelaide” had with Gabe are half tethered, hence why her son could control his clone and make him walk into the fire. Aside from that, this movie has a lot of symbolism and metaphors that require a second watch to understand fully.

  • @chrismorgue6743

I really dont think one person would be able go teach thousands of feral people to talk, that's just way to much when you are child with a limited vocabulary already. Also the shadow version of her was already more aware than the others and coming into the world where everyone speaks, she learned the way a toddler would.

The real mother (who was left with the clones) speaks all fucked up like she does, because clone mother strangled her as a little girl, I assume crushing her voice box. That's what I got from it, anyway. I knew it was probably going to be a twist, but I didn't feel like the opening scene gave it away, because it could've just been important for showing why the mother was always so worried about her children going missing. It didn't necessarily mean they switched.

Both Red and Adie have some control themselves. The underworld is like a parallel dimension. I think one if the Tethered got the uniforms Abe the scissors from the above world. You are supposed to see that final twist coming . It is suppose to put you in her eyes, in her perspective. Red may have tried to get out but by the time she got out her Mother and father left her not realizing their daughter was left behind.

I agree with everything you said about Us and espically the ending. I think the ending should have been more ambiguous. When the mother kills red she lets out a primal guttural scream and her son looks very shaken by this. Then when they are in the car and the boy and his mother look at each other he gives her this i know who you really are look. Then we as the audience would be left to question , well because the mother killed her doppelgänger did she absorb her and now is evil or when she was a little girl did the doppelgänger switch places with her. We would be debating the ending for years and years.

    from u/JJoker1117 On Reddit:
Okay. Jordan Peele has said before that GET OUT was a "social horror" where the underlying theme of racial tensions is what drives the film. He's said that he wants to do a whole series of these, and this is most likely the second. I've only seen the movie once and I've been stewing about it for an hour, and this is just my opinion, but I think the underlying theme is poverty.
The copies live underground, near or in the sewers.
Red mentions that they eat cold, raw rabbit, they don't have good quality of life, and everyone on the surface takes what they have for granted. (Red would know, she once had these things).
The copies are the impoverished, the lowest class.
Then we have Adelaide's family. They have what appears to be a vacation home, but they also don't have top of the line stuff. They remark that their friends have better boats, cars, etc. They have enough. They are the middle class.
The friends are the upper class. They have the nicest home, newest technology, etc. BUT they all hate each other. They drink all day. They barely talk to one another. They're comfortable. That's why they die without a fight.
The middle class fights because they're forced to. They're being challenged.
The lowest class fights because they HAVE to. Something's gotta give. It's not just one family. It's an entire population that needs to help each other out from one end of the nation to the other.
The cherry on top is Adelaide. She rose up from the lower class (through devious means) and fights tooth and nail to protect her rung on the totem pole, but she also sympathizes with the copied kids who die. She takes pity on them. She sees herself in them, they're just trying to do what she succeeded in.

Oh I totally get that. The metaphors and the overlying message was certainly hard to miss I just felt the surface level plot crumbles to make the metaphors work.

    • @notori0uszig
      @notori0uszig 5 лет назад +3

Cody Leach yeah I get it. Peele being a big Twilight Zone guy, and old school horror fan, I can understand that he went for message and story over logistics which is completely fine with me because I really hate that we live in the day and age that we have to Fucking dissect every single frame and plot inconsistency in movies these days. Nobody cared why the creature at 20,000 feet was able to stay on the plane wing, it was just a creepy ass episode. We need to stop worrying about every little thing, no movie is ever gonna be perfect, and I’m guilty of this too because I let it ruin Halloween 2018 for me. I went into this basically blind and I was obsessed with it when I left. That’s how we need to get back to.

    • @CodyLeachYT
      @CodyLeachYT  5 лет назад +4

@@notori0uszig But that mentality doesnt work when the movie goes out of it's way to TRY to explain so much and fails. We never bitched about the Creature at 20,000 feet because it never bothers with trying to explain anything it just presents the scenario and leaves it. Huge difference.

    • @notori0uszig
      @notori0uszig 5 лет назад +1

Cody Leach I think the idea and story was great, everything about the premise and the message, but you’re right it seemed a little like he wrote himself into a corner and didn’t really have the exit to explain it. The outfits and the scissors and shit got me too, there was no reason how they even survived down there and why they existed and who was behind it, plus the logistics of TRAVEL. What if I moved from NJ to Idaho. Would my clone have to follow me? How the fuck would it even get there. There were a lot of things wrong, 100% with you on that, but the score, directing, and the acting helped me look passed it. It was an enjoyable movie and it never dragged, straight up suspense. I think his next one is gonna be great, but Get Out was a near perfect first outing, hard to top it. Peele tho is a great breath of fresh air for the horror genre and really came out of nowhere

  • @Ratso_DeLynch

One detail that I haven't heard anyone talk about is the son, Jason always wearing a mask over his head - similar to Jason Voorhees, son of Mrs Voorhees who was the original killer/evil in Friday the 13th - just like we find out adelaide was the original mom/evil from underground.. I know that one might be a bit of a stretch but if you think about it a slasher nod like this from peele makes sense!
Thanks for the awesome breakdown so soon after the movie was released!! You touched on many details that alot of people missed, I can't wait to watch it again to look for all of the Easter eggs and see the movie from "red's" perspective a bit more.

Great review, Cody! Overall, I enjoyed the movie and have been thinking about it since I left the theater. There are a lot of assumptions that I found myself making for the things that weren’t quite logical. I assumed the tethered were given the scissors to help with the bunny eating. (Which by the way 😱). Also assumed there had to be something that prevented them from escaping the tunnels, though we’re never given any indication of what. I shouldn’t have to fill in so many blanks as the viewer. There were a lot of unanswered questions and conveniences that kept the movie from being as strong as it could have been. And although I guessed the twist from the beginning too, I actually liked that aspect of the story.

So imagine that, young Adelaide wakes up unable to speak, handcuffed to a bed and seeing an exact copy of herself. As for the opening, I wonder if that was studio-imposed because they worried that audiences might not understand the premise: 1998's Dark City also essentially gave the game away with a bit of opening narration in its theatrical release for that very reason.

Just saw this yesterday. Halfway through it began to remind me of an old Simpsons Halloween episode involving Bart having an evil twin being kept secretly in the attic for years. The end revealed that the “evil Bart” was the original Bart and they had at one point switched and low and behold this happened to be the same plot twist for the movie. This in part ruined the experience for me because it didn’t feel like an original idea. However I’m sure the Simpsons got this plot from somewhere as well but whatever. It was also extremely farfetched with too much humor in inappropriate places (like in the new Halloween). Get Out was much better and more unsettling in my opinion.

She mentioned that all the Doppelgänger saw her as unique and treated her as such so she acknowledged it and took advantage NOT to teach them how to speak and not to share her knowledge and knowledge is power. The real Adelaide had a lust for power and wanted to control a whole army of dumb Doppelgängers to change america while her Doppelgänger would kill for living the good live. The part where she finds her at the carnival in the very beginning made my stomach flip, something not a lot of movies do. Aside from that concept alone, I found myself balls deep in Reddit discussions right after the movie trying to find explanations for the 700,000 loopholes and why the fucks. I thought you were going to break my heart with this review bc overall I did enjoy it, but as usual we’re on the same page!

I'm really glad i watched this review. I really didn't get the hype around "Get Out", it was creepy, but had so many plot holes and completely fell apart in the 3rd act. On the other hand, I was really looking forward to "Us", trailer looked great, but glad it's been spoiled that the 3rd act was crappy again, so I don't have to bother watching it. I've seen it with several writers/directors, that they have a good premise for a creepy story, but no idea how to end it, and then it all just falls apart at the end.

I enjoyed this movie so much. I took a lot of things from this. Why was Jason able to control Pluto and the others weren't? Jason/Pluto are the youngest of everyone else so there connection is unique. Why The Wilsons weren't killed off immediately? two reasons. 1 Red being the Original and Leader of the tethered they followed her orders. 2. The Wilsons were on guard while everyone else was caught off guard.

I’m pretty sure they explain why they spend so much time killing Lupita’s family. Lupita’s red character has a line where she mentions that they’ve waited so long to do this, so her and her children were going to take their time. She knows that her life was taken away so she has an actual vendetta against Lupita and her seemingly perfect family whereas Elizabeth Moss’s doppelgängers (as well as the rest of the world) were all only there to kill, and that was their only goal. That’s just my take on it

Pay attention. At some point Jason the little boy was switched out. Not during this movie, but on a previous family vacation to the same place. At the beginning he's using different vocabulary that the family is unfamiliar with, as if he had just learned his own language... Also he thinks he remembers a magic trick but doesnt remember what it does... Closet scene, Red Jason shows him how to do it. Than him and his mom give that look to each other as if saying "we made it out" to each other. At the beach, he's not making a sand castle like every other kid would, he's building a tunnel cause he grew up in one

Main problems I have with US
    Spoilers warning
1.Hearing the dad's shadow talk was laughable, and took tension away.
    2. How come the shadows only mimic the people's movements when the plot demands it
    3. I didn't think the twist was good at all. Felt like a bad M. Night Shyamalan twist.
    4. 1 family can kill 8 shadows, but the rest of the world gets rekt
    5. A better way to show that twist would have been for RED to force Lupita nyong'o to move, the. Not A stupid flashback.

I like the movie, Get Out was good, and US was good as well, we need a fresh take on Horror, or scary, plus, it kind of reminds me of a Twilight Zone series, Jordan Peele knocks it out of the park , and that's two for two, not bad , cant please everyone, after I watched it yesterday, I knew alot of people would have problem with parts of the movie, 70 million it made over the weekend, not bad for a New movie, that's pretty dang good, although it's not a.movie for everyone, but I enjoyed it, but I still understand why some won't like it, IT IS WHAT IT IS!!!

I don't understand why Cody wants explanations for everything that happens in this movie, but totally accepts the Marvel universe, which is by far the worst movies ever created on earth.(Ok, I may be alone in that opinion LOL) After thinking about it, I realized Cody must be a huge Stephen King fan. Stephen King explains EVERYTHING from every tiny detail in his books. In fact the biggest complaint about King stories is how he spends 5 pages explaining what the buttons on a shirt look like and why they are round. Anyway, this was left open for a part 2. I doubt anything will get explained more since Peele said he left everything open to interpretation for us, which is kinda lazy screen writing IMO. I find it simple to write a story with open-ends, cause you don't have to come full circle. I'm still not convinced Peele is the next great hope for Horror films. Though I did like this one more than Get Out.

I agree with all of your points here.
Ultimately, the movie did not live up to the hype I felt when I saw the trailers. Mainly BECAUSE I saw the trailers. THE TRAILER shows her doppelganger grabbing her, but the movie cuts that part away in the 1st encounter. In doing so, made me expect to see that scene at the end, ruining the entire twist. The movie was going to be about clones or a parallel universe right out the gate. If at the end however, you found out that the doppelgangers were aliens sent down, mimicking and blending in to take over the earth, then I wouldn't have expected it. But, the trailers completely ruined the experience and outted the twist for me after watching the first 15 minutes of the movie.
Maybe I've seen too many movies.

Literally all the problems I had you mentioned 😅. I've had people telling me "oh but you're using real world logic" well yeah why wouldn't I? "Oh but the underlying message so the logic doesn't matter" yes it fucking does! I don't care what message your trying to tell, I can suspend my believe but if it completely destroys logic it completely takes you out of the movie! I'd be fine with it if it was restricted to just that ONE area but not the entire fucking country! Peele went for broke and ended up Shylamalaning it in a bad way "What A Twist!" 🤦‍♂️

Pretty easy to understand from my perspective,
    1. Where did the clones, and clothes come from? The government
    2. Why didn't they kill the clones after failing the experiment? Because it's America and we're fucking lazy.
    3. Reason Red didn't kill Adeline's family instantly? Because Adeline stole Red's life, so Red wants to take her time killing her
    4. Why did Pluto mimic Jason? Because kid's love to do and mimic what they see aka a father and son
5.Why can't Adeline talk normal? The dopple broke her larix if that's the question

My friend loved the whole film but I agree with your thoughts on it Cody. Yeah...the third act was pretty bad. I would've thought it better if the Tethered were from a parallel dimension. After Get Out I was very excited to see what Peele was gonna do next. I had the same reaction to the finale of Us. It totally fell apart for me. It was a complete misfire in storytelling. NONE of the ending worked for me. It’s frustrating to watch because I think the idea behind it is solid but the way it all develops and unfolds in the end took me completely out of the movie. The entire last act of this film is an infinite collection of plot holes. I still appreciate Peele as a filmmaker and I think he has a great future ahead of him but this one fell flat.

Red also described her and Adelaide as special. The tethered also weren't unable to talk, they were just unable to speak English. They had their own language. And this wasn't explicit, but I assume some sort of uprising took place, which could've been hinted at by all of the rabbits that were roaming free. And its fucking sci-fi horror. I like that he left a lot of stuff for interpretation, not everything needs to be explained because it can take away from the overall messages. It’s obvious that they got the clothes, scissors, and gloves from their experiments with the government, I’m pretty sure the government tried to teach them how to control the person they were tethered to before just abandoning them. I think us talking about the logistics of it all takes away from the real important conversation we should be having on the social and political commentary the movie conveyed, I don’t understand why where the doppelgängers got the suits and scissors from matters? When if you really think about it you could make all of what seems like plot holes make sense with your own common sense. Maybe it’s Jordan’s fault for thinking viewers were smart enough to figure some stuff out on their own but unfortunately nowadays people like you want everything spoon fed to them like a little baby who can’t do anything by themselves.

Mike Dearing Because being tethered is like mind slavery. Being down there means you consciously have no choice but to act out the actions of the person you’re tethered to. She was no longer in control so she just couldn’t leave and walk out. Especially when the clone was able to escape because the real Adelaide led her there with her own actions, the clone obviously wouldn’t do that so Adelaide had to stay under there.
