Chucky has returned from the depths of hell that was Seed and is back with a vengeance. Curse of Chucky marked the first Child's Play movie to debut on VOD which is usually a sign for the worse. Luckily for Child's Play fans, Curse of Chucky was a back-to-basics approach and returned the killer doll to his horror roots. Does Curse of Chucky deliver on the level of the early Child's Play films?

I actually thought that this was a remake the first time that I watched this. You know... right up until Chucky revealed the scars. It took too long to let us know otherwise. That said, it is superior to Seed by leaps and bounds.
Yeah the scar reveal was a nice surprise
I still don’t understand why chucky wasn’t human inside the doll, being able to take off his head and the fluff coming out of his back.
He Hadn’t Been Resurrected For Very Long So He Wasn’t Turning Human
I love how this movie reminds us that Chucky was a real monster of a killer after two movies that make him like this silly guy
Don made him once again silly...
S2 makes him looks like sht than see
@@tgggg7587 I fuckin agree.
The backstory of Charles Lee Ray actually does screw up the continuity (somewhat) because now the presence of Eddie Caputo (Ray's partner from the original) makes no sense at all.
+gnc623 I don't necessarily see it that way though I understand that viewpoint. Lord knows I'm the biggest critic in the world for continuity in this franchise. I always assumed Eddie was waiting in the car while CLR was visiting Nicas mom tied up.
Also, the post-credit scene to which you’re referring is actually explained by what he’s able to do in “Cult”:
The whole reason he was still “himself” when he shipped himself to Andy, after successfully finishing the incantation with Alice, was because there was more than one. That’s why he says, at the moment Andy figures it out, “You thought I was the only one?!”
The multiple bodies thing isn't the problem. It's how Chucky explains how he can do it. They could have thought up a better explanation than "I looked the spell up on the internet."
Exactly. I remember people saying it didn't make sense online when the movie came out and someone said unless Chucky has a new spell it doesn't make sense. Well he did have the new spell. Everytime I try to explain what your saying to someone their like no he didnt learn the new spell until cult and I'm like no he did it when he got in Alice.
I enjoyed this a lot. I watch it just as much as Child's Play 2. I like how this goes into more of the background of Charles Lee Ray.
"And now you're the last one standing, so to speak. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
The way I look at the “feather” thing you mentioned is: in every previous film in the franchise, it took more time (more than a single day) before Chucky sustained any injury to himself-thus more time to increase how human he had actually become within the vessel of the doll. In “Curse,” the events occur within a much shorter timeframe. Do you know what I mean?
I agree.
I agree
Probably the scariest movies in my opinion mabyebeven scarier than the first
I think so
I said this to! Tone wise Curse is the scariest, Hence the Scene with barb revealing chucky’s TRUE face
This is the first chucky movie that actually scared me in a lot of scenes in this movie
Child’s play 1 definitely has the best soundtrack. Look up the main theme and man is it good. I feel if they would have stuck with that theme it would have gained good momentum and been iconic
The one that plays during the credits? I LOVE that song. I agree, it's my favorite, but I don't think it matches the tone of some of the others.
one of the most underrated horror themes definitely
I prefer childs play 2 music.
Jacob Bechtel the theme was more amazing then 1
True but 2 was too
Is anybody else here just to watch Cody say funny shit? Hatchet reviews are fucking hilarious 🤣
+Michalik Nguyen That's what I come for. :P
This has to be one of my favs in the series. It’s really well done for a smaller budget and it certainly has brought Chucky back.
It does have its issues though. The kills are fun but I don’t like the CGI sometimes because practical effects made such a huge part of the Child’s Play series.
Yeah I agree the feathers pissed me off lol
I was really surprised at how this movie brought everything full circle. We not only understand how Chucky relates to this family, but we get Tiffany and Andy back. We also learn about Chuckys M.O. A prequel as well as a sequel. Great stuff! Incidentally, the other film I really like that combines a sequel with a prequel is Godfather Part 2. Hmmm........
I think the only reason that Don really doesn't give a fuck about voodoo, is because it's not his original idea. He just uses it as escape if they need a explanation for something imo.
i was surprised when the make up came off and revealed this was the REAL chucky from the previous movies!
Tbh I like the Good Guy version of Chucky almost as much as normal Chucky, so how long it takes to reveal Chucky doesn’t bother me very much
Daaaaaaaamn. I can't believe how much I agree with you on every review. Please keep it up . Cody Leach you are the man!!!
+John Hubert Thank you!
"Chucky I'm scared." "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, You fucking should be!"
To me, Curse of Chucky is like Halloween 4, while Cult of Chucky is like Halloween 5. What I mean by that is that both H4 and Curse were good sequels after several years of no sequels, while H5 and Cult are the films that ruined their franchises. Lord only knows if Child's Play: The Series or Chucky 8 will be similar to Halloween 6!
I believe the music at the end of Child’s Play (1988) is the theme music... even if it’s not really used after the first film... until this year?? Haven’t seen the new movie, but I think they use that music.
Great review. Chucky works really well in a haunted house setting. I agree about the bad CGI taking the viewer out of the movie.
Huge LOL @8:01 haha. I think even if you are not a huge Child's Play/Chucky fan but you have seen them all the END CREDITS of this movie is one of the best ever. One of the best in movie history. I love your passion for the Chucky franchise. After seeing this movie for a third time i think i like it more and more but you are right it does have its flaws. Love your videos Cody i am a big fan!
I love Curse of Chucky. This is my favorite of the series.
YOOO I've been waiting for this my dude. yesssss you definitely are the best reviewer ever dude
+Evan Maggs Thanks man that's awesome to read!
This was good but it left me with some questions that went unanswered, starting with where's Glen and Glenda? And how was he supposedly after Mika or Nika's family the whole time but it went entirety unmentioned through out the entire franchise. But my biggest question is how come Tiffany keeps going back to Chucky and keeps getting more stupid in each sequel, plus seems to be ok with the fact he really wanted to cheat on her with Nika's mom😂😅👌
I'll answer all these questions:
1. Glen was killed at the end of Seed of Chucky. Good riddance. Glenda was never seen again and I'm assuming Tiffany abandoned her lmao
2. The reason why Nika's family was never mentioned before is because the director Don Mancini wanted to make a change in the franchise. Don Mancini is known for disrespecting this franchise because he doesn't like Tom Holland, the director of the original Child's Play movies.
3. The reason why Tiffany keeps coming back is because Don Mancini just wanted an excuse to put Jennifer Titty in all of his movies and it's really annoying and creepy.
For real. I don't mind tiffany but she comes back all the time even when chucky kills her.
@@seangaming8229 Jennifer Titty you mean Tilly right ?
@@mistyscalf5638 nnnaaaahhhh i meant what I said lol
I'm surprised you didn't mention the jump scare at the end before the credits, I know you don't care for those.
I agree with everything you just said except for the Actress who played the little girl, Alice. I think Alice’s Character was supposed to come off as naive and she didn’t know any better or legitimately didn’t know what was going on. I completely agree with you on Barb though, I’d have to say this Movie is in my Top 3 after rewatching Cult of Chucky and watching your Review pointing out things that can very easily be missed.
Great review. Loved Curse of chucky, it's a shame Cult went back down the weird route again.
The Curse is good, not great, but it does the trick.
After rewatching this and Cult, I've been thinking about the Alice character. I don't think she's actually dead. If she is, they would've actually shown a flashback scene of Alice dying in Cult. So, I think that Alice will come back in the 8th film, one way or another. Or, if she is dead, maybe they have a plot twist where Andy was the victim who "fought back". It would explain why Andy was ready to shoot Nica instead of save her. If she's alive, maybe she's been hiding from Chucky. Maybe Chucky really did transfer his soul into the girl's body, then used the Cult spell to put Alice's soul into another doll. But yeah, if she's actually dead, then actually show the death scene.
Oh, and as for Chucky having stuffing, I originally was going to say that the main parts of the film take place over one night, and it takes give or take three days for Chucky to become human, if you pay attention to the daylight rotations in Child's Play 2. That said, you're right about the mailing thing, because it could've taken days or weeks for him to arrive at the Pierce house. Hell, Don Mancini even admitted in the commentary that the stuffing breaks continuity, but he did pretty much because he wanted to.
Hey Cody I really really enjoy your content man, ever since I found you last week I've been watching you everyday and watching your awesome reviews on all my favorite movies. Great job and keep the videos coming buddy
I love this movie, my 3rd favourite of the franchise
Really enjoyed these reviews, keep up the good work. Dum Dums videos are good too.
+Rink Poses Thank you. Drumdums is the man
I feel like me and you could really be friends in real life lol
The “Curse” of Chucky just might be Don Mancini himself...
Don Mancini has a lot in common with the late Moustapha Akkad from the Halloween franchise; both don't/didn't respect the lore and fans of thier franchises.
**Slow clapping**
without him there would be no Chucky
LMAO!!
@@oliverpony yeah but hes also a shit director sooo....
BY FAR the best film in the franchise. No film comes close to this one. Not even Childs Play 1 and 2
I love Curse of Chucky! It's my 4th favorite in the franchise.
I love *Bride* and *Seed.* They’re great horror comedies that were a nice change of pace for the series - far more entertaining than the third one, which is the worst one in the series if you ask me. I’m also loving the direction they went with in *Curse* and *Cult.*
I also think 3 is the worst. At least Seed tried to be something on its own, despite major mistakes. But it had a direction, some uniqueness. 3 is just as generic as it can be.
What do you know.......ur a friendly neighborhood, Spider-Man.
Great review Cody. Happy Halloween. 🎃 🔪
Great review as ever Cody you smash every review you do out the park, Curse was a decent return to form & the good outweighs the bad, but it had flaws like bad cgi Chucky & features some very bad acting, my issue is I thought it lost it's way during the last 10 minutes to set up Cult did, it ruined all the good work this film did.
I think a film should have a beginning, middle & end & not sequel bait fan's in case we don't get a follow up movie.
One incredibly clever thing I think this movie did (and I don't even know if it was intentional), but when I first started watching Curse, I thought it WAS a reboot. Now I wasn't as big a Child's Play fan yet, so I'm sure if you followed its release super close, I probably sound like an idiot. But I started watching this thinking it was a reboot. But in the middle of the movie, right before Chucky kills Barb, when he peels back the plaster over his face, I was like, "Holy crap! It's not a reboot!" I don't know if that fooled anyone else, but it sure got me.
The chucky doll with the scars looks so fucking good in this film, they should of used that design but without the scars for the scenes where chucky is normal before the scars were revealed.
Really loved this one. Chucky is at his best when he's scary. Despite the fact Mancini insists he didn't want to do goofy in Cult, I found it almost as silly as Seed in places. Curse on the other hand I love.
Great review! I really like this movie but as for the stuffing and head scene I believe at this point in time that Chucky has been a doll for so long that now he knows how to turn into full doll or chucky. There are at of scenes in the movie where they focus heavily on his eyes which in my opinion is Charles Lee Ray coming in and out. Almost like a hibernation mode as self defense.
It definitely breaks the rules of Chucky but I doing that as an idea that Chucky can come and go as he pleases and the only way you can tell his by his face or eyes.
I had the same thought on the stuffing and plastic head, didnt get it but i was able to look past it as the rest of the movie was just so good. I still wonder about where tiff was during the flashback scenes i dont mean physically but story wise
One thing I realized is that the actor of multiple Malcom from cult is in this movie
+ Cody Leach this film is indeed a redeeming quality. At least Mr. Mancini, even though he should be still seen strung up for the Cult Of Chucky, had enough sense to disregard the events of Bride and Seed and make Chucky ruthless and terrifying again
Watching this today!
Great review Cody! :)
"So you never actually... killed Andy Barclay, did you?"
-Nica
Now THIS is more like it. While I don't think that "Curse of Chucky" is as good as the first four films in this series, it's still one HELL of a ride.
Fiona Dourif was great as Nica and it was pretty sweet to see her face her dear old Dad one on one. Truly an underrated classic.
Thank you for the Video
I watched this movie earlier this month &I was impressed with the background of chucky, but for me I wasn't necessarily "scared" besides the flashbacks
Seed of Chucky is terrible. I will agree.
Saw it last year. Well directed and effectively suspenseful with the director
putting the audience in a SUPERIOR POSITION over the characters.
For example... the rat poisoning scene, when Chucky puts the rat poisoning
in the soup. That is superior position. We know that there is poison in the soup
but the character's do not. That creates suspense. Tension. Sometimes enough
for us to holler at the screen. Don't eat it! lol.
Child's Play 3 believe it or not did the exact same thing. The scene where
Chucky puts real bullets in all of the rifles... Again. That was superior position.
We knew the guns were really loaded but the characters did not.
Very effective. I use this in my writing.
I also like because of the directing, you don't know which person has the poisoned soup and that makes the supper scene absolutely fenomenal
Coming on 4k ultra hd release july 14
I think Alice was alright, the priest was the worst actor. I don’t mind Chucky look in this, cults doll looked weird too
Cult doll looked a little better
The only parts with Alice that kinda made me cringe were when she said lines from past movies. "I like to hug you too, Chucky." "Chucky's my friend 'til the end."
He looked better stitched up.
When he wasn't stitched up, he looked weird, but creepy.
Don Manchini doesnt care about the dambala thing. It wasnt his idea to include the Voodoo thing in Childs play. That was the idea of Tom Holland. I have seen this in the Chucky files on RUclips. I think that's why te rules change al the time. He simply doesnt care.
+Dirk B That's awful arrogant since whether he likes it or not that is a MAJOR part of the franchise.
I really enjoyed that movie and, my gosh those last seconds before the post credit scene, omg that scared living crap out of me.
You should check out Fiona Dourif in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Cody. She was badass in that show as Bart, the Holistic Assassin.
I just got this and cult of chucky loved them both! The rest of chucky franchise I need to get but have seen my favorite is cult as a fan it should have went to theaters would have made money but that's my opinion!
I didn't love this movie, but at least nica grew on me after a second viewing. the post credit scene was awesome, but it also made me mad because it's like, really? we've all been wondering where Andy is and he finally shows up and it's the same kid, and they could've just used him in the whole movie lol
Awesome Review Cody I love this movie
Ive never heard of curse of chucky or cult of chucky until now wtf
A couple of my gripes you didn't mention: I'm sorry, but I hate the gay scene between Barb and Jill. It is COMPLETELY unnecessary and rammed in there and doesn't serve the story at all. In a recent interview, Mancini said, "Oh our franchise is known for its gay identity." Uh...no it isn't...at least not until Seed, when you took over, the other 4 movies don't have that at all. Lol. I've never heard anyone say they associate that with Chucky. And although I actually really did like bringing Charles Lee Ray (the actual person) back into the picture, I think his character was kinda off. He was in love with Nica's mom and seemed really interested in her and having a family, whereas in Bride and Seed (especially Bride) he didn't want anything to do with that lifestyle. And what about Tiffany? Did she know about Sarah and Chucky's love for her? And even though this seems to satisfactorily explain why Charles Lee Ray was on the run from the police in the original Child's Play, it on the other hand, now throws doubt concerning Ray's parter, Eddie Caputo's, presense. If having the police called on him totally caught Ray by surprise, how was Eddie Caputo right there in the car?
gnc623 i mean, maybe he wants nothing to do with that lifestyle because of Sarah
Well Chucky knew Tiffany before he went into the doll so his affiliation with her would have had to have taken place prior to Sarah, and in Bride, Chucky at the beginning of the movie, made it clear he never intended to marry Tiffany.
gnc623 oooh shit, you're right
Agree. I hated that scene. It was like cheap fanservice and useless to the story.
You forgot to mention the part during the third act, where the handicapped chick crawled back and forth the stairs. one minute the wheelchair is on the ground and the next shot, the wheelchair is up the stairs .... then goes back to the ground again.
This movie is like a true sequel to the first 3 movies
This the first time I have watched one of your videos. I like your opening theme music. I like your style and what you say. I'll watch your other Child's Play movie reviews. I agree with you that Seed was by far the worst Chucky movie, so if that movie didn't kill the franchise, nothing would. I think all Chucky fans were so glad how strong Curse came back and played to the original story. I too love how they brought Fiona in to Curse and especially love that they didn't reveal she was Charles Lee Ray's daughter until near the end. @ 3:51 if that isn't the best facial expression you could get in a horror movie. They should have used that for the poster. I disagree with you about Ian, and I didn't feel he was that important to the story. Also maybe they could have done more with Jill's character. You have to totally love Alice because without a cute kid to befriend Chucky, you don't have Child's Play, and I disagree with you on that actresses performance and I'm positive she was the influence for having the little girl in the Chucky TV show. But where was the storm when he recites the chant to possess Alice at the end and why is Alice hidden away through most of the movie? I totally agree with you about Barb and I was hoping she would be the first that Chucky would take out. I would have liked to have seen more dialog from Chucky himself but I thought the flashback scene with Charles and Sarah was utterly amazing because at 5:13 you can totally see the resemblance of Charles and when the doll becomes evil Chucky. Now maybe the doll design didn't look as good but WTF in the 2109 remake was that? Anyway, are you as excited as me, and that when you thought the movie franchise was dead, that Mancini/Kirschner, Brad Dourif and Jennfer Tilly all come back to do the TV show?
Stands up really well to the creep factor of the first one.
I've been putting off watching this and cult after that bullshit we got in seed but I may have to check it out now
Are you going to review the Chucky TV show and compare to the movie franchise?
I think there's a reason as to why he was full of stuffing but a huge part of me thinks that it's just lazy writing. But it's weird because in cult they have human organs and stuff. Idk I hope Mancini has a plan and isn't just doing these movies just to do them :/
I think this, and Cult, are the only ones i didn't see! This looks really like an old-school movie with Chucky, but kind of chliche with all the hunted house etc theme.... Also saw a bit of Cult... Really need to see it, i heard it's a love-or-hate movie, and you didn't like it but i don't think you hate it to death! Btw, i know i have recommended this like ever, but how about a Fear Clinic review? I didn't see myself the movie, but would like to know an oppinion on it!
Please check the volumes on your intro. It’s really loud compared to your audio.
I actually enjoyed this movie i don’t know about the cult of chucky tho
Who else is here before 10k views??

Child's play 2 is my favourite
What is your favorite cult of chucky chucky one liner cody
I thought this movie was pretty awesome. I mean compared to seed and cult, this movie is a masterpiece. Great review Cody. Inwas looking forward to this one
Compared to those two you are correct!
It's the best Chucky movie as a horror movie and probably the biggest step he ever did, but sadly, not the best in the franchise!
FELL BACK IN LOVE WITH CHUCKY AFTER THIS MOVIE 2nd BEST OF THE SERIES IN MY OPINION BUT WAS LEFT FEELING DISSAPOINTED AFTER CULT HOPEFULLY THEY CAN RECOVER IT BUT I'M NOT OPTIMISTIC
A pretty small step for today's horror movies, but probably the biggest step for Chucky!
Another awesome movie review. 🔪 🍿
Love the shirt
Awesome Shirt
This was the worst movie in the series - this could have been any horror movie ever made, just Chucky happened to wander onto the set.
Lmfao, I bet you're a fan of Seed.
Can anyone explain why chucky has the scars in this new doll?
It's not a new doll. That's the twist...its a sequel to Seed.
Been binge watching your review videos since last month. Man, you make burst out in laughter. 😂😂
I actually watched Freddy's Dead yesterday and I can see what you mean, man. I always thought the same about the film looking like it was made by amateurs. It just reeks of cheap filmmaking.
+Luis Jesus Lopez lol Glad you enjoy the channel
I'm curious, are we the same age? I'm 26. I was born '91. I was 12 when I saw Freddy Vs Jason in theaters.
+Luis Jesus Lopez I'm about to be 28
I didnt like how Chucky didn't even once become human
But I believe that this only because this story took place on 1 night
And the other movies took place on many nights causing him to become human
Yeah. It takes more than 1 day for him to become human, IMO.
What? I don't like this. He is at his top when he is a killer doll
Fun fact the only reason Curse wasn’t in theaters was because of Seed Lol
I wish it was in theaters
Just wish they didn't cheap out on the doll FX in this one :/
Just saw it, personally i don't have anything negative to say, i love everything, my only problem feels to become chliche, not in the series, in 21st century of horror-movies like old house, action at a single place, jumpscares etc. The characters are ok, they're not that memorable compared to everything else we got in the franchise, but they work, and Alice is pretty dumb, even when she sees Chucky with scars! A single negative, which is not really a negative, is that the movie really doesn't give me a lot of rewatchabilty compared to how much i watch and search Bride, even CP3, really have problems there! But loved all the easter eggs with the past events from the franchise! Still need to see Cult, lind of have hopes in that one, even if i saw your review! But i'll stick to what i say: Bride is the best one in the "Of Chucky" movies!
IF THEY'D DONE IT THE OTHER WAY ROUND & FETCHED KYLE BACK AT THE END OF CURSE & ANDY BACK AT THE END OF CULT IT MAY MAKE IT BETTER
I actually thought the design was really good. I know its off and a bit bizzare at times but it is the most creepy design n my opinion
They didn't explain how eddy fit into things
Surprised you avoided mentioning the most pointless 'sexy' scene in movie history. I still don't get the point of it.
I thought this was better than Cult of Chucky and it was kinda back to the scary side of the franchise coz Bride and Seed of Chucky were awful I thought, more comical than anything. Good review though dude. Can you do one rating all the Rocky movies? I checked to see if you had done a review of the franchise but don't think you have.
I definitely prefer this one to Cult. Im sure Ill get to Rocky eventually. Love those
How come chucky looks scarier in this movie with freckles than he does with his scars
How did Chucky come back to live?
In the words of Jurassic Park, "life... Finds a way"
In Child's Play 3 he explained that when he gets a new body, the rules of "first person reveal" essentially reset. He pretty much gets a new body every movie so they probably didn't feel the need to explain that in this movie.
I personally thought the little girl did a great job! Much better than the little boy from the first movie.
But yeah the feathers or whatever coming out of Chucky didn't make any sense and really pulled me out of the movie.
Thanks for saying there is a post-credit scene! I literally just rentend and watched it on RUclips. Now I can go back and look for that scene before my rental expires!
