  • It's always an exciting time when we hit the trails and today was no exception! What a wild day with a bit of disaster mixed in! We still managed to make it a good time and everyone made it out safe even though the Jeep broke through the ice and sank like a rock. We'll be back at it again next week.

    Funny no one really commenting on the shifter thing, so I'll step up here. I'm an old school jeeper (built 95 wrangler on 35's that I've owned for 26 years) and a new school jeeper (built JLUR on 38's ) and one thing I learned a long time ago when the JK's first came out is that the pesky little cable assembly for the shifters can be an issue if things get "lodged" up there unlike the old school jeeps that have direct linkage. That said, not knocking the cable assembly design it's just part of what needs to happen in order to make things come together in terms of design, however all the more reason (like many) that we all need good protection under our jeeps. i.e. skid plates, etc... I'm an east coast wheeler like you guys sometimes get into the trails that have "poky" things that pop up all the time. Good idea for anyone to really watch their lines, know the damage prone items (brake cables, shock bodies, shifter cables, sensor cables, etc...) and try your best to know what you're wheeling over (although not always possible when you're wheeling through big puddles, lol. ) Good stuff man.

    Nice--Very nice my friend. I'm digging your videos! While I would never beat my 2003 TJ Rubicon with 48K miles on it (that I ordered direct from Jeep factory in 2002 while serving overseas flying combat missions over Iraq & Afghanistan in the US Air Force), I absolutely love watching you, your girlfriend and your buddies wheel! Like you said in one of your previous videos, "does not make good content without wheeling it, beating it, breaking it and then and repeating---LOL!! As I have built my Rubicon from light to moderate rock crawler the first decade to garage queen the second decade and now to Overlander this third decade, I am paying close attention to all the good and bad experiences you are having. I am learning a lot--LOL!! Keep sending the videos--David in Perry, Georgia (USA)

    My first suspicion on the shift issue would have been the linkage bushing is gone and its not shifting properly, it can fall out of place when it's flexed out. That log wedging itself in there would definitely do it. I wonder if you could have used wire or zip ties to take up the cable slack so it would still shift a little bit.

    • @SmokinMonkeyOG
      @SmokinMonkeyOG  6 месяцев назад +1

      Funny enough that’s exactly what the mechanic did for him they use a bunch of zip ties until the part they need comes in so that he can continue driving

    Hi guys just seen issue with 4L and transmission. I had the same in my gladiator rubicon in the Vic high country was in 4low and locked went up a steep muddy hill and slid back 20 meters (I was only in 2wd) all to do with my key fob had a low battery, had to shut it down then would not start had to start with metal side of keu pushing into starter button and all worked, had to check on off road pages to ensure but every time I shut down and key fob flat came up while driving nothing would electronically change. Replaced battery and all good again. Pretty scary and jeep said they never seen one go flat yet. Im a 2021. Hope this helps somwone and to check off roaF PAGES for drive train not just the dash and gear lever.

    Glad to see Big Bird back on the trails again. One question, just out of curiosity: when open the hood, it looks like you've never washed the engine. I hose mine clean every so often -- is there a reason why you don't hose yours off? Is it a matter of getting water all over the electrical stuff -- because they get wet every time I go offroad. Or is it that hosing it off every now and then just doesn't really matter? (Am I just wasting water for nothing?)

    • @SmokinMonkeyOG
