Once again to whoever is putting these full AFI life achievement videos out: you are a true boon and a blessing for cinephiles the world over! I’m 40 and have heard about and wanted to watch so many of these but for years all I could dig up were clips and isolated speeches. Surely I’m not the only person in-debted to you for making these rarities available. So rad! ❤️
His Monumental Movie, "The Grapes of Wrath" did justice to John Steinbeck's memorable book. It should be a part of the curriculum in our institutes of higher learning in the US.
The following years this award should have been given to Charlie Chaplin, John Wayne, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, Charlton Heston, Cary Grant, Jean Simmons, Jean Arthur, Sophia Loren, Deborah Kerr, Maureen O'Hara. None of them received it. It's hard to understand why.
I agree with you. It's hard to understand why this award was given to George Clooney, Nicole Kidman...but not to Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant, Michael Caine.
At least half of them probably wouldn’t have shown up. Jean Arthur def would not have. Not for all the money in the world. Also Maureen O’Hara was beautiful, to be sure, but hardly what I would call a world-class talent. Not to mention she was a stone cold homophone and I can only imagine half of the constituency who falls under this umbrella would vote for her based on this fact alone.

@@poshmum she always wanted to be a singer....and Ford always got her to sing a bit in the movies she appeared in...but of course it was her beauty that got her into acting...read her autobiography if you want to know more about Ford....you will be surprised

Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen too.

Gotta be left enough

WOW!
3:14 Charlton is referencing the Academy Awards 4 days earlier where Clint had to fill in as a presenter for him.
Great director and pretty good tongue specialist if this video is to go by🤣😘❤
2:16 interesting to see a Republican president being welcomed by Hollywood types.
John Ford look like a 90 years guy.
Better than looking like what you are: an a-hole.
A great president
Sound is hollow

Same old stock group of actors
Some pretty good stock actors
@@paultaylor9331 They were the biggest stars of the day. Not like today's forgettable Hollywood trash. :)
I always found Ford films to sentimental cliche ridden
All due respect, why are you watching an AFI tribute to Ford if you aren’t a fan?
@@ZacharyWeaver-rc8xc Back to mummies basement for 5601 ! :)
It is worth watching just to hear Maureen O Hara sing Wow.
That's why you have zero Oscars while Ford had won six.
