I feel so ashamed to say, only after 13 yrs after this happened am I seeing it for the first time.... Really, as a George Lucas’ Starwars fan- fanatic lol 😂 It was really heartwarming to watch!
I love these AFI tributes, particularly this one!! I'm a big fan of "Star Wars" and the sequels/prequels. It's great that they gave George Lucas this honor for recognizing his work and the impact that it's had on cinema history! 🎉🎉
This is a good 1-hour video to watch on lunch time. Even though I'm not a fan of Star Wars, the Indiana Jones movies were the only George Lucas films that I really like, since it was the LEGO Indiana Jones games that introduced me to this franchise back around the time these video games were new. So as of today, I've collected the 2003 DVD collection that hasn't been unboxed yet, and a DVD collection of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles that I still haven't got a chance to give it a watch.
You'll love Young Indy! It's all George though as Steven Spielberg wasn't involved. It's my favourite series. Just know it's very different in tone and story to the films as it's more educational in nature as it's meant to introduce kids and teenagers to many different prospectives with history being the main one. You really feel like you're growing up with Indy and seeing him mature as it goes along. It makes me emotional watching as it brought me back to feeling like a child again. I hope you'll let me know how your experience goes.
Kathleen Kennedy saw that standing ovation with the 3 of them together and thought “We’re not putting them together on screen. We don’t want that kind of audience reception to the sequels.”
Thank you so much for uploading this very important 33rd AFI life achievement award in 2005 given to my all time hero since childhood George Lucas and seeing the entire original lead cast and all the very important Hollywood cinema icons that I grew up with. I'm so happy I got to watch this very important event. Thank you George Lucas my hero. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
back then I didn’t get to see Revenge as a kid, so when I watched this tribute, at 1:12:28 that’s the only scene my little kid mind had from the movie and I would play it out with my toys over and over again, I would go on to save my allowance to buy Revenge on DVD and finally watch the whole movie!
My brother Chris was super fan of Star Wars films since 1979 and 1980 he had darth Vader case for his Star Wars action figures he seen Star Wars permire of stars wars new hope, Empire strikes back, return of Jedi
40:44 The closest we ever got to seeing Luke, Leia and Han do a scene together after ROTJ because the nimrods at Disney couldn’t be bothered to just have one more scene with those three together again. I hate Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams so much, they really screwed up the chance of a lifetime.

@@marywise7661 Actually no. George changed his mind and started up again with developing his Sequels in 2011. Disney came into the picture soon after and he ulimately decided to sell the company. They decided to discard his stories soon after.

A moment in time Revenge Of The Sitn had been in theatres for 2 weeks and was a huge hit from audience and critics alike and after this George felt like he had peaked and was time to step down and retire. Unfortunately, selling to Disney was the second worst decision for Star Wars, and this was superseded by being blind sided and believing Kathleen Kennedy had an original creative thought and actually cared about Star Wars. It was clear that Kathleen Kennedy was found out when left to own talents that she had none. In truth, it had nothing to do with her producing success it was because she was married to Frank Marshall or was Spielberg's assistant and then was assistant producer to George

@@VHSVultureHis friends kept telling him he needs to get back into directing and because of the risks with the technologies he was using since Young Indy (and Radioland Murders). It was a major step and he already had the experience that a newbie director wouldn't with the direction he was taking cinema. It was easier if he did it himself. He was also very heavily involved in both Empire and Jedi. He gave guidelines in how both were to be shot and was involved in many sequences the directors of both weren't even on set for. They're George's films through and through. I recommend Jonathan Rinzler's Making Of books. Thank you for uploading this too. I miss George making films. He's my hero.

He made a change to that moment to make it more consistent with the other five films in the 2011 re-release. In particular the moment in Revenge of the Sith that it's most clearly drawing a connection to show Anakin's different choice.
@@Voltar the ewoks were based on the viet cong and the "if youre not with me youre my enemy" line from anakin was based on george bush during the Iraq war. Someone needs to watch the films again and read some george lucas interviews, it seems.

Welcome, sorry for the bad quality!
Carrie Fisher's tribute is the funniest ever done on AFI. She beat out the professional comedians.

😢 We got a moment with Luke, Leia, and Han together. Something that mouse company couldn’t do. It’s a shame what Disney did to Star Wars.
William Shatner and Carrie Fisher stole the show 😆
Carrie Fisher was amazing!
I 200% agree- just wish we had gotten to see Harrison Ford’s reactions to her speech, since he was part of the early bit lol 😆

For a thousand generations Star Wars was the guardian of all that was good in our childhood. Until the dark times...until the Disney...

William Shatner's opening was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. One of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

I think that's the most anyone has seen George smile when the family pictures came up.
One of the best.
