Jack Lemmon was one of the greatest actors to ever grace a stage. He is up their with Bogart, James Stewart, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper. Man Jack could sure give a speech.
One of my all time favorite actors. Jack Lemmon was a class act and he always seemed like a genuinely nice person and that's few and far between with movie stars. R.I.P. , sir.
A legend on the stage accepting a well-deserved award, and the crowd was filled with legends. Now look at what we have today at these ceremonies....... Ugh
No Grace in actors they all lost souls.. just they collecting prizes for a job well done for brainwashing the masses.. they mostly drags , half man half woman.. wearing prosthetics mask . Fake deaths .. fake everything.. fake reality
I was born and raised in USSR and one of the few American films that were let into theaters was the non-political "Some Like It Hot". Jack Lemmon's Daphne was the character I liked the most as a teenager, although he didn't get "the right side of a lollipop" in the end. The humanity and humor of his performance weren't lost in translation. Thank you and rest in peace, Mr. Lemmon!
There will never be another like Jack Lemmon. His performances have left a legacy of landmark films. Whether he's in comedies such as "The Apartment" and "The Odd Couple" or in dramas such as "Days of Wine and Roses" and "Save the Tiger", without a shadow of a doubt, he's had a lasting impact on cinema history. Thank you, Jack Lemmon, for sharing your gifts with the world. Gone, but never forgotten.
Spoken from the heart by a man with a heart....remembering Jack Lemmon. I met him once at a golf tournament in L.A. and he could not have been nicer to me. He signed my "Some Like It Hot" LP and looked through a book of photographs (showing him in various films) I had brought with me and laughed (he said "oh wow") as he looked at them. A memory frozen in time for me as I shall not forget it.
So many fine performances....such a range of emotion, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment, Mr. Roberts, The Days of Wine and Roses... a gracious speech by one of the finest actors ever.
Oh this is such a moving video :) Right from the moment they put The Apartment main theme, I wanted to cry and his speech was so, so beautiful. Specially the part about the other side of the coin and his love to his family. No one can ever spread a little bit of sunshine like Jack Lemmon !
What a wonderful speech! Heartfelt and emotional, every word a gem! What a great gift he was to the stage and the screen! I saw several of his movies; he was with a class of actors that is all but gone now. We miss you, Jack!
Straight from the heart and full of meaning both Jack and Walter. Everyone is correct in saying you don't see actors like Jack and Walter anymore. Why? they loved what they did.
Forget the fact that he,s a great actor he,s also a great and kind men and very down to earth. The kinda guy you,d love to have a pie and a pint with.RIP jack lemon.God bless him.
A Man from another time, from a different class, with really good domestic education and well mannered. I always loved his movies, there aren't many actors to be equally good in comedy and in drama movies. He was! For me, one of the greatest actors, one of the most important links between the 50s generation and the current one!
His portrayal of Shelley Levine in Glen Garry Glen Ross is probably my favourite role of his. Its beautifully human. He had a way of finding roles and playing people that we could all turn into, like Walter Matthau said. Unique guy.
About as great a combo of talent, charisma and likability as ever produced via Hollywood. He is, as others have written, very much missed, but of course left behind some enduring gems, both comedically and dramatically.
I'm glad I'm old enough to have witnessed true movie stars of old. I was lucky enough to see 'Mr. Roberts' on the fantail of the USS North Carolina battleship in Wilmington, NC several years ago. Awesome experience!
There are some negatives on the net, but this is one of the pure, unmitigated positives. To get to see a man like that, introduced by Matthau, give a speech like that, what a treat. You can see the joy and admiration on the faces of other great stars. You don't stay at the top as long as Lemmon did without talent and class!
Nancy...If you are Jack's daughter...He was always one of my favorite actors...I have to think he was as gracious off-screen...I just saw Glengarry Glen Ross for the first time...A tour de force cast, and Jack was right at the top...I sure do miss seeing him...Be Well...
@@allys744 actually i just got done watching a really damn good video on here and he's got 3 kids 2 of them are his of course and the other is from his wife's previous marriage who he considered his daughter apparently. so that's 3 kids, he said their names were Courtney & Denise. and of course his oldest being Chris. so he had 3 kids
One of the truly gifted actors on the Hollywood screen, He spoke with utmost eloquence and heartfelt emotion in his AFI award speech. Among my favorite movies in which Jack Lemmon starred in was "Some Like it Hot, The Great Race, and The Out of Towners." I also get a kick out of watching Jack and Walter Matthau in the "Grumpy Old Men" outtakes. Wished he hadn't passed on so soon. Jack might have been up in age, but I'm sure he felt so much younger and vibrant at heart. R.I.P. Mr. Lemmon. Your acting talent remains legendary to this day.
Maravilloso actor Jack Lemmon un fuera serie , En papeles cómico , drama en todo lo se ha propuesto tengo todo sus películas . Un grande del séptimo arte .
So great to see multiple generations of iconic stars. In the audience is a legend before Jack's time: Jimmy Stewart. Also in the audience are two legends in the making: Billy Crystal & Steve Martin.
jack lemmon was simply the greatest actor in hollywood he could do it all, however my favourite performances were. 1. MISSING 2.SOME LIKE IT HOT 3.GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS 4. THE APARTMENT 5. THE CHINA SYNDROME 6. THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES 7.SAVE THE TIGER 8.TRIBUTE 9.THE OUT OF TOWNERS 10. THE FORTUNE COOKIE.
Jack Lemmon's greatest performance were in Days Of Wine And Roses, The Apartment and Some Like It Hot, ...he could easily have won an Oscar for each and no one would quibble. In fact He won for Save The Tiger to me was a consolation prize. He worked with Kim Novak, Sophia Loren, Shirely MacLaine, Rita Hayworth, Jane Fonda, and of course the great Marilyn Monroe.
My opinion is that very few actors get to play roles that are truly touching (remember the good comments Jack Lemmon made in his speech where he talked about acting being a noble profession). I think Jack Nicholson was a lucky actor to play more than one roles that were really touching and a lot people could relate to the depth of. I think he was lucky to get those offers. His own contribution was to try and do justice to those by his habit of working very hard. For example, his part of R. P. McMurphy in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is an iconic one. There are others too.
If anyone ever deserved this, it was certainly the great Jack Lemmon. so many great performances, I think, the best was The Apartment. Biut he finally won the oscar with his absolutely brillant performance in Save The Tiger.
One of the greatest he could do drama and comedy like nobody’s business! Two examples of this are “The China Syndrome” and Try to catch him and Warren Beatty’s sister Shirley MacLaine in “The Apartment” and then there’s “Some Like It Hot” and one of my favorites as a kid from 1965 “The Great Race” where he played Professor Fate in which he was hilarious with Peter Falk as his henchman/sidekick Max played by Peter Falk.
Mar 28, 2019 ~ Well Jack. 44 movies then and I have never seen you in a bad one! You were great in so many. U could make me laugh and cry. U had it all. Maybe we'll all see you in the other world Felix! ;o)
i haven't seen all his films but he did plenty bad ones but he was good in them either way, The Out of towners (1970) was really awful but he was good in it of course
Jack Lemmon was one of the greatest actors to ever grace a stage. He is up their with Bogart, James Stewart, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper. Man Jack could sure give a speech.
Amen to that. And, if to be so bold as to add an addendum, so was Matthau.
Jack Lemmon was the greatest, R.I.P. Jack
Mr. Jack Lemmon
thank you for your sharin your gift with us all
May you rest in peace
A man of enormous talent. May his legacy live on. RIP.
Words of wisdom passed down by an incredibly brilliant man.

Thanx Ken I appreciate hearing good things about my grandpa! Have you seen all of his movies??
A legend on the stage accepting a well-deserved award, and the crowd was filled with legends. Now look at what we have today at these ceremonies....... Ugh
yep, worlds falling apart. Men like this had morals and class. NO more
and today, the audience would be talking and whooping while the award winner is making a point about the rights of some sort of person or such.
Lost era..when stars had grace, dignity, & class. Jack Lemmon embodies all 3.
I'm so agree!!! Jack Lemmon 💖!

One of the best actors ever, not just a comic one, remember Days of wine and roses and Missing and you realise that this man has been incredible.
Don't forget his Oscar winning performance in "Save The Tiger", which was well deserved in my opinion. He's a national treasure. 😎👍
@@edkeaton How about his performance in "Glengarry Glen Ross"
There will never be another like Jack Lemmon. His performances have left a legacy of landmark films. Glengarry, dont forget
That man was truly a class act in the best sense...sure do miss him and Walter...
The world is a lot smaller since Jack left. What a classy guy.
This man was equally at home in both comedy and drama. So funny in "The Odd Couple" and so poignant in "Days of Wine and Roses". He could do anything.
I love this. He was/is so great. Miss his talent. “Spread a little sunshine.”
God bless you in heaven Mr Lemmon great speech

I watch ' The Apartment ' every New Years Eve, and never tire of it. Lemmon, MacMurray, and Maclaine. What's to tire of ?
A time when actors had class about them . my how things have changed
So fortunate to see him on Broadway in "Long Day's Journey Into Night"....with a very young Kevin Spacey....an actor's actor, quite a stage presence.
A wonderful actor, and even better human being sadly missed, loved him and Walter together, it was effortless
Yourself and Walter are a class act!! Hollywood hasn't and can never replace you guys.
Terrific actor, terrific.
A beautiful person - right there.
Jack Lemmon is a class act. Not something you see too much anymore in the movie stars of today.
The Apartament was... the best, indeed. Now I watch to „Irma la Douce”. Jack and Shirley... absolutly beautiful actors
don't forget "the odd couple".
