NordicTrack Vault Smart Home Gym Review: Better than Tonal?

  • The NordicTrack Vault is marketed as a 'Complete Smart Home Gym.' We determine that in this review...
    ✅ NordicTrack Vault: garagegymreviews.co/NordicTra...
The NordicTrack Vault is an iFIT Connected Home Gym designed to be a complete solution for those training at home. I've been testing it and comparing it to many other options on the market including Tonal, Tempo, Peloton, MIRROR, and others.
The biggest standout feature of the Vault is its ability to house a full suite of dumbbells, kettlebells, and other accessories while having the ability to use a large reflective touchscreen for guided workouts. iFit is one of the most complete training platforms on the market, but the question is, at a premium price point, is it as good as the competition.
    Let's find out.

@@GarageGymReviews I understand Mike, I just think a lot of us started our home gyms to buy the equipment we like; lift as heavy and as loud as we want; eliminate the monthly subscription; have more time at home getting our workouts in and avoiding technology distractions. All of these new "smart gyms" are chock full of the commercial gym pitfalls instead of adding value like counting reps and and barspeed and giving a report after the workout is done as an example.

I guess I'm the ideal Vault buyer. I've ordered this and it's not here yet, but I'm excited about it even after viewing this negative review. I can deal with the smudges using a capacitative glove - I'll just cut off one finger, maybe store it inside the vault. I'm just looking to get stronger ahead of some athletic challenges, but I'm a hundred pound woman - I'll probably not need more than thirty pound weights for my purposes. I don't want mirror feedback for privacy reasons, so the flaws, aside from the costs, aren't really flaws for me.

If you read the fine print of NordicTrack’s warranties none of their equipment is rated for commercial use. They like to use the “commercial” tag for marketing purposes but you’d never see their equipment in an Equinox, Gold’s Gym, YMCA, etc.

The future is equipment-agnostic workout tech. Smart collars that you can put on any barbell, sensors for your shoes, etc that infuse workout tech into the equipment you already have. Smart gyms will be the future for commercial premium gyms and the wealthy. The cost of a standard home gym is still pretty expensive for the average person. Sure the cost of the tech will go down with time, but the cost of purchasing and shipping weight will never really change, so adding a tech factor that you will need to update, maintain, have more potential maintenance, as well as failures makes it not ideal for the average user. Smart home gyms remind me of the bowflex machines. They can do a little bit of everything, and maybe someone who doesn’t do much but wants a small footprint for working out will get this, but it will never be the standard. Iron and steel will remain king

Now tech and learning is the guide to getting better, but grinding and mindset instead of looking at a computer while your training just doesnt do it for me.

I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

Maybe slow down on the "Smart" gym product reviews. Not all of us are ready for it, nor do we want it. Watching 1 or 2 of these things per month would be fine, but most of us want to see real gym products. Speaking of... how about Rep's wide pad upgrades for their adjustable benches? Is a 14" pad on a quality FID a game changer or what?

Seems a LOT cheaper to head over to say Walmart spend a little for an adjustable dumbbell set(and kettlebells if you need them ), buy some bands and a yoga mat and then stream work out videos on RUclips while you exercise in front of a mirror 🤔

My Own Opinion: People who are serious about significantly improving their own health/physical capabilities and performance are not going to be interested in a lot of the 'smart gym' all in one solutions that are coming onto the market nowadays.

Ever had an object, band, or weight get away from you while working out. Now think of that happening while using these expensive mirror touch screen gyms. Lots of shattered screens, screens that break in their own from Poor quality. And then it just sits in a corner or is free on Craigslist.

@@GarageGymReviews i got them during last year when the shortage was at its worst so i couldnt get any big brand ones. I got some around 90CHF (around 100$ i think) per dumbbell that dont even have a brand name on them somehow. They look exactly like the rogue db 15 in every aspect (weight, length, knurl, sleeves, and even the brushings) so i'd assume its either the same factory or some chinese copy, the second one i'd be really impressed with cause they really feel well made.

3k is way to much. For less then half that you can have a full rack set up and adjustable dumbbells. And with all the RUclips resources for programs i really dont see their videos as a seeking point.

Oh look. Another disposable product. Once it's obsolete you get to replace it. Or if you get a power spike in your home you now have a brick since not every home has surge protection. Strangely iron never gets obsolete and is not subject to power surges.

Smart gym equipment is dumb. If you really don't know how to workout, join a small gym that offers HIIT or crossfit classes and learn the exercises for about 6-12 months. Then cancel the gym membership and build your home gym with dumbells, kettlebells, barbell and bumpers, plyo boxes, an air runner, bench and power rack. That's all you need. Do the same circuits you learned from your gym and do new circuits that you learn from youtube, which is FREE. Don't spend on expensive smart home gym equipment. Be smart!

Meh....they are about 18 months too late. Peloton hit a "home" run because they were able to take advantage of the timeframe of the pandemic. The touchscreen looks very nice and an improvement over Tonals cellphone interface IMHO. Instead of the individually-weighted dumbells and kettlebells they should have Instead included adjustables. What they've included is not nearly worth $1k. The fact that the integrated camera isn't yet working makes this whole system half-baked. Not even close to being worth the price not knowing if or when the camera will be working.
