Lifefitness Elliptical, YBell, back extension bench, adjustable inclined bench (Hammer Strength), wide grip pull down bar, TRX and rubber bands. With the exception of the last two items, I bought with intention of using them for the rest of my life. Been working out both at home and gym. Very happy with my results.
I use horse stall mats as well. There is a major issue with mine, the intense rubber smell is insane. They are not meant to be used indoors. I've had them for 2 years in a very well ventilated room and the smell is still crazy strong.
@@TheWilo26 Usually places that sell horse supplies have them. I highly recommend you check them out in person before you buy them. The materials used vary greatly.
Lots of good advice here. I started the garage gym with a basic sporting goods store 300lb weight set with the crappy bar, and a crappy bench press setup. That actually worked for me for quite a while. Later on I bought a quality bar as my first upgrade, and eventually picked up a set of bumpers (had to buy them a pair at a time due to budget restrictions). I eventually sold all the equipment that I had originally purchased at or near the price I paid for it. Buy on sale! Most of these things really hold their resale value due to steel prices always climbing and the fact that most gym equipment will last longer than we will.
My living room is my home gym. I put my couch in storage. I LOVE working out alone! Coops’s channel has been essential for my gym build to not waist money 👍
I started my weightloss journey a little over a month ago. My highest weight being 395. I'm now at 370. I have a small home gym and I like doing this at home rather than going to 24h fitness due to not wanting to be judged or criticized by others of how I let myself go. My blood pressure is the best it's been in years and I have so much more energy with my lifestyle change of eating habits. I haven't felt this good in such a long time.
awesome work louis!! from all that I've read (a lot), being physically active is probably going to help your health a huge amount regardless of how much weight you take off. Working out is its own reward!
@@iesous444 An Olympic barbell is a barbell that meets a regulation size and weight, 84" and 45lb. If it's a different length or weight, it's just a typical barbell and not considered "Olympic".
The problem I’ve been running into has been people over pricing used gear on facebook marketplace. I found someone selling a Rogue Echo bar for close to $400 when they go for just over $200 new. There are also people charging $3-400 for crap bolt on bars. Its honestly ridiculous.
see, i think a home gym is good for me because I'm extremely self conscious at a public gym. I'm much more motivated and such when im alone, I'm building my gym in my basement and I'm so excited.
The horse mats are a game changer in my planning right now! I've been working out in the garage for the past 3 years using the Gold's Gym XRS 20 setup. Not the best, but it was a start. I have the Fitness Reality 810XLT with lat pull-down attachment coming the first week of November. I've been trying to figure out cheap floors so my wife doesn't kill me. Horse stall mats. So simple.
Love my home gym. Used to go to local gyms, but after 7+ yrs, I found myself slacking off because of the inconvenience of going there as much as I really enjoyed going. My home gym gives me convenience to workout without thinking about it. It's there. Don't have to plan. And I'm totally fine working out alone. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
An average horse weighs 900-2,000 pounds, depending on size and breed. A lean, racing fit Thoroughbred, for example, will typically weigh 900-1,100 pounds, while the average Clydesdale (think Budweiser) weighs in at 1,800-2,000 pounds
Some great tips here. I’m a gym owner but new to the home gym community and this video reminded me not to spend all my money on trying to get the same equipment at home.
I've watched a few of your videos but have recently finally started putting my garage gym together and subscribed! I'm building my gym primarily as a supplemental strongman gym since I don't have a strongman gym nearby and plan to continue using my gym membership.
If you don't wanna grab horsestall mats or can't find, a lot of factories and refineries will sell old conveyor belts for super cheap. These things are durable, really cheap and can be found in multiple thicknesses. They are perfect for gym flooring and what I've been using for a while now and they work great, got them for a dealifting platform as well
I want both a small minimalist home gym and a gym membership. Being a full time student and being active duty military it definitely would help to have something I can go to quick and with just the basics
I almost bought the Rogue tiles until your channel and then saw the Horse stall mats. Hugely cheaper than Rogues. It's half as thick but it's just me working out, I don't need 1 1/4" 2x2 tiles.
You aint kidding about home gym motivation ! It is helpful to add a lot of mirrors, to self admire. There is a show off factor you don't get at home alone. Being around others in the gym is inspiring and your able to inspire others. Walmart is got great prices in the store on free weights around Christmas time. 35 for a 45lb Olympic plate if I recall.
I much prefer working out on my own. But when I go on runs, I have to take my best friend with me, my German Shepard lol. Working out on my own is enjoyable, but I miss having a spotter so I can push myself until I fail a rep.
I do too, but I need to get Bette ventilation or air conditioning in there. Feels like a bitch in the summer especially when lifting heaps. It’s cooler down there, but the air quality is 🤮

Wow I love the desk idea, going to make a temporary one to put on my spotter arms so that I can work from home in my gym without needing a desk to take up space!
Been using dumbbells at my house for 1.5years now. Think I am ready for a bar. You pretty much can do anything with dumbbells except overload them with weights because it feels unstable to use one hand versus two.
I made the mat mistake. I was using those cheap puzzle piece mats under my squat rack. I just ordered a couple of proper 4X6 rubber mats from American Floor Mats. The shipping was almost $90. But the mats have purple flecks, which is awesome. I love purple. I am hoping the mats will do the trick.
I would love to post photos of mine. I’m thrilled to train at home alone. I love old York plates and dumbbells. Of course I because obsessive but use everything I buy. I even made a belt squat attachment costing about $40.00 bucks and the best I’ve been on.. I recently stumbled upon your channel and appreciate the reviews!
Love working out at home, always beats waiting for a leg press or rack, and working out next to the two older lady’s that decide they must use 10 different dumbells, preset barbells, and 80 square feet of floor right in front of the dumbbell rack or turf
The titan x-2 (9 gauge 2”x2” steel frame) upgraded with 3 additional cross bars is rock solid. 0 wobble. Should last my lifetime. Black Friday deal was awesome too.
Tip : Equipments which have to take load (ie, barbell and rack) should be strong and maybe a little expensive, the load itself doesn't matter (ie, the plates and dumbbells)

Great video with some nice insight. I put together my basement gym in August and am looking to upgrade into a garage gym for the spring time and need some tips. You're channel has been a good one to watch. I think the only mistake I made with my basement gym is my rack stand. I was on a tight budget and wanted to invest more into the barbell and weights off the bat. Also the ceiling in my basement is only 78" so my choices were limited. The stand works for now, but it was always just a band aide. Come the Spring time I intend to have a full rack in the garage.
Exactly. When I was younger, there was eye candy in the gym that encouraged me to work out harder. These days it’s dudes and girls who want to be dudes in there. so I may as well work out at home.
I died laughing when you dumped on the Terra-Core, it harkens back to a time when I saw a superior bring in a Bosu-ball chair and was the subject of inquisitive attention and regard for weeks to come. Thank you for the great content and the candid honesty.
I started out with a pair of 35lb dumbells and a Total Gym 1300 when I was 13, I literally used them to train for everything. Not until I was 26 did I buy ANY other equipment . Then I bought a Marcy MP-12.0 rack with cable system, a barbell 385lbs of weight and a bench on Craigslist for 250 bucks all together. Used that ever since and I've added small accessories when I see something I like.
I agreed with most of the points in the video. If you are a beginner I would recommend looking at fitness gear if you want something new but cheap. I ended up getting it to try out to make sure I would use a gym in my apartment. Between that and buying a bike before covid I lucked out. Also I find from using it you realize things you want or improvements and things you like so when I move and get a nicer rack I can think about what to get.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and just found out you started how I did with buying and reselling I have spent 2k on equipment and have made over 4K off it with still keeping someo weight for home gym
Been buying equipment for my bachelor apartment mostly off kijiji. My advice would be to keep your eyes peeled around late January/early February, because that's when a lot of people give up on their "new year new me" aspirations. I got a practically brand new nautilus recumbent bike for $200, it was worth close to $700 new.
13:34 I bought the Iron Neck because I was having neck pain from sitting in front of the computer.. I used it once. JUST ONCE. And now I don't have neck pain anymore. Now I'm not dumb. I know I should be using it more, and if I don't that the neck pain will likely return :) but yeah it's a niche piece of equipment.
you’ve had a home gym for all those years, have all that equipment, yet look like you’ve had a memebership to plant fitness all those years that you go to every begining of the new year.

@@ironmonger2182 yeah, I watched his video of him doing various one rep maximums. Personally it's not for me, I just can't see the point of it. Powerlifting training is just too easy. Like Greg Doucette said, do 3 reps, sit around for 5 mins, do another 3 reps, sit around for 5 mins. No lactic acid burn. Then pat yourself on the back coz you're stronger(at 3 reps) than some guy who looks like he works out.

Thanks Coop, I enjoyed this one. I was waiting about the flooring bit. It costs quite a bit but it's a real requirement to have in a home garage gym. I'm going 20mm with my home garage gym and nothing less. I have been training for a long time but I grew tired of the gym and opted to buy a Multi Gym which has everything I need and some wants as well but I know I am going to use it. It's also a very important point you raised about starting small to see if you will stick to training at home, if you are not motivated to train alone then it will be difficult to stay focused. I heard you can get them used for really cheap. So, could be a nice way to save some money on weights. But yeah, if buying new, they are really unnecessary.
True, you really don't need 35s but I grabbed some just for completeness. I also went a little crazy on standard plates because I wanted every size ever made including the hard to find 75s, 40s, 35s, 15s, 12.5s and 7.5s, hehe.
Randomly weight sets bundle 35s in there and they are usually cheaper than the nice 5/10/25/45 packages. So if you get enough 5/10 for smooth exchange, 35s can be a little cheaper.

I'm looking for horse stall mats without that intense rubber smell will be installed in a close room so... Do you have any idea where I can get it?
Keep it up
awesome work louis!! from all that I've read (a lot), being physically active is probably going to help your health a huge amount regardless of how much weight you take off. Working out is its own reward!
Fitness journey update?
Usually the first version of something can suck.....wait to watch the reviews before you buy and most of the time version 2 is better
That's a good one.
How many those olipmic bars you need. Is that just for looks
I'm sure some are review samples.
What are olipmic bars I have never heard of those lol
@@iesous444 An Olympic barbell is a barbell that meets a regulation size and weight, 84" and 45lb. If it's a different length or weight, it's just a typical barbell and not considered "Olympic".
@@JasonWW2000 ok thanks didn't know that. Although I was asking what a olipmic bar was haha
Meatarian he answered you there’s no such thing as an olipmic bar

So simple.
It's not hard to work out alone. In fact, it's the best option.
Either you are motivated to get or maintain your health or not. 😶
Thanks for this. I now know more about horses than I did before.

My wife and I just took the dive and bought a Inspire SCS on Black Friday. It gets installed in a couple of weeks. Great video.
"Buy nice or buy twice"...say this instead.
If you don't wanna grab horsestall mats or can't find, a lot of factories and refineries will sell old conveyor belts for super cheap. These things are durable, really cheap and can be found in multiple thicknesses. They are perfect for gym flooring and what I've been using for a while now and they work great, got them for a dealifting platform as well
2021 is the year of my garage gym. Time to binge this channel.
Same here, just finished mine
I actually prefer the “Dungeon” gym.
Sounds good.I do too
Agree
I much prefer working out on my own. But when I go on runs, I have to take my best friend with me, my German Shepard lol. Working out on my own is enjoyable, but I miss having a spotter so I can push myself until I fail a rep.
@@soysauce6534 nothing makes you push harder than knowing if you fail the rep you die.
I do too, but I need to get Bette ventilation or air conditioning in there. Feels like a bitch in the summer especially when lifting heaps. It’s cooler down there, but the air quality is 🤮
Buy nice, or buy twice. Coop, you're the fitness voice of reason I needed. Minus bumper plates, my gym is almost complete of the essentials. Thanks for the help 💪💪
Wow I love the desk idea, going to make a temporary one to put on my spotter arms so that I can work from home in my gym without needing a desk to take up space!
Yep! I also use it as a work bench often.
Been using dumbbells at my house for 1.5years now. Think I am ready for a bar. You pretty much can do anything with dumbbells except overload them with weights because it feels unstable to use one hand versus two.
Hit up this guy, it looks like he has 20 or so that he is not using. I bet he'll sell you one for more than he paid.
Kinda like you said with the buy once cry once, as another reviewer said “buy nice, don’t buy twice”. Great video man!
Rings > Barbell + Weights > Rack + (optional) pulley system. > everything else you find awesome!
I've always preferred the phrase "buy nice or buy twice"
Love working out at home, always beats waiting for a leg press or rack, and working out next to the two older lady’s that decide they must use 10 different dumbells, preset barbells, and 80 square feet of floor right in front of the dumbbell rack or turf
Love how he sais «buy once cry once» still own 10 difrent racks
2020/2021 when you can find cheaper weight sets at the store than on Facebook marketplace.
I wonder if those people actually sell their equipment. Rusty weights on Craigslist are more expensive than rogue weights. How does that make sense
The bicep break made me spit out my drink. A+
Love that you put together the links for the deals as well, keep rockin the stache!
The titan x-2 (9 gauge 2”x2” steel frame) upgraded with 3 additional cross bars is rock solid. 0 wobble. Should last my lifetime. Black Friday deal was awesome too.
Bolted down or no?
Tip : Equipments which have to take load (ie, barbell and rack) should be strong and maybe a little expensive, the load itself doesn't matter (ie, the plates and dumbbells)
Olympic weightlifters are the other way around. Plates are decent, but we use the spindliest squat stands you can imagine
Absolutely love your content. That bicep break was hysterical LOL

Super helpful stuff right here. So glad I found this before we started building out our barn gym!

its not hard to workout alone. that's basically what happens when you put your headphones in at the gym

2:17 "pull-ups or something" those are definitely the "or something"
13:34 I bought the Iron Neck because I was having neck pain from sitting in front of the computer.. I used it once. JUST ONCE. And now I don't have neck pain anymore. Now I'm not dumb. I know I should be using it more, and if I don't that the neck pain will likely return :) but yeah it's a niche piece of equipment.
you’ve had a home gym for all those years, have all that equipment, yet look like you’ve had a memebership to plant fitness all those years that you go to every begining of the new year.
Because lifting is about looks, and the eyeball test is accurate
@MatthewHugson Lifitng can be about strength, endurance or looks- but typically no matter what path you choose, the looks will follow to at least a very visible extent.
@@mh7968-e6l if you workout on a regular basis, after 6 months or so, eventually people will ask you "Hey, have you been working out?". If nobody even notices, you're obviously doing something wrong, not eating enough, eating too much, eating all the wrong foods, not getting enough quality sleep at night, only training once or twice a week and always skipping leg day cuz like squats hurt bro.
If I met this guy for the first time and he told me he works out regularly, I'd assume he's talking about playing tennis 3 times a week. There is literally no muscle pressing against the inside of his t-shirt. No traps, no neck development, no capped shoulders, no forearms. I have to assume he bought all this equipment because he's one of those guys with all the gear. If he took up golf, he'd turn up on the green on day one with several thousand $$$ worth of titanium golf clubs, before he's even taught how to swing a club.
Now he's realised he can make money on RUclips showing off his garage gym, with beautiful, shiny, pristine equipment that's never been used.
SMFH😐😑😔😞
He has been focusing mostly on powerlifting vs. bodybuilding and is actually quite strong for his size. He has posted training videos before. People that train for strength rather than aesthetics often have a rather ordinary physique at first glance.

Thanks for the advices.

#1 Biggest mistake: 35lb plates
I heard you can get them used for really cheap. So, could be a nice way to save some money on weights. But yeah, if buying new, they are really unnecessary.
True, you really don't need 35s but I grabbed some just for completeness. I also went a little crazy on standard plates because I wanted every size ever made including the hard to find 75s, 40s, 35s, 15s, 12.5s and 7.5s, hehe.
#allplatesmatter
Grendelbc u should get the 100pnd plates 💪
Randomly weight sets bundle 35s in there and they are usually cheaper than the nice 5/10/25/45 packages. So if you get enough 5/10 for smooth exchange, 35s can be a little cheaper.
Having a home gym is the best ever.. set everything up and go hard.. no one interrupt me talk useless crap to me.. never miss a workout... save a lot of money petrol time gym fees I don't have to pay for..
