until or unless you have or have developed bad knees and or hips from years of kickboxing and jump rope. this machine is BETTER than the rope if you are injured or arthritic. It is a beast. Do 100 reps hard and compare to rope and get back to me. Trust me. I did a video using my first Schwinn Evolution Comp airdyne bike almost a decade ago and that bike is STILL a beast. IN fact, I purchased a new Schwinn AD2 airdyne bike and it is EASIER than my Evolution Comp. Know why? Because the older bike is all METAL and the newer one is plastic. Metal weighs more than plastic. Get it? That old metal bike is a BEAST.
Jump roping is probably the best, you can do it outside, inside. You can go hard or long and combine it with other workouts and you don't need that much space for it. You can also bring it on trips. It is also good for foot work for sports.
Jump rope. Hands down! Cheapest, most effective, smallest, lightest, convenient, biggest bang for your buck... Probably wouldn't make for a good video though lol
I’m too heavy to make jump ropes work right now. It’s a lot of pressure on joints. I’m using an air bike but will use jump rope once I can do it without pain
Ski on a wobble board, adds a balance component to the mix. Pro tip: hold the handle like you would a ski pole not like a bike handlebar much easier on the elbows.
My Versaclimber was clutch for helping me stay conditioned for returning to basketball while rehabbing from a broken ankle a year ago. Then when I could tolerate more, pushing/ pulling a sled on the street took it to the next level. Both are great pieces of conditioning equipment. Thanks for the reviews, Coop!
Love my SKIErg! Use it to warm up everyday! Walk downstairs, grab the handles and go! I use it much more than the rower since I don't have to strap my feet in.
I've tried that machine once in my life and it was pretty dope! Totally agree that the best conditioning equipment is whatever you'll end up actually using. Even though I'll use the assault bike, row machine, kettlebells, etc, the jumprope has to be my number one favorite.
I freaking love the ski erg. I have a knee mobility issue so I can't bike except with just my arms. I can't run long distances. I can row, but because of my knee my max wattage is about 120. The ski erg is the only piece of conditioning equipment that puts me on a level playing field even with a disability. Happy face emoji with heart eyes.
The SkiERG..the best..super versatile..can do a LOT of moves on it. My fav for abs..kneel on a cushion and do the skierg from there..quite the workout!
@@nomaanalwi9495 It is. I've been doing this and I got one of those steel maces to swing around. My shoulder mobility is worlds better after about a year with the mace and six months with the bag.
I have to agree with you, the ease and quick use does make this piece excellent. I have mine mounted. I like not having the restriction of the base. I went as far as doing straight 30 mins on it.
I’ve come close to getting this equipment but it’s a one trick pony to me. You hit it right on the spot when you said if they ever put the pulleys on the bottom going up then it would be a complete workout piece of equipment o would buy ASAP!!!!!! Great review 😉👍🏼😉👍🏼
One other HUGE thing you forgot to mention: The Skierg is the only conditioning equipment I know of that you can use while in a full leg cast! In the event you get injured and can't do traditional "cardio" this can keep you from being a sad, couch-ridden sack of 💩.
I have a skierg, rower and echo bike. The echo is by far the beast for cardio. While I love my skierg, it fries my lats and the low back pump gets intense often. That bike is the devil but works so damn well. The skierg is a great core workout though. I’m adding a bikeerg soon! For longer steady state cardio pieces. I think the king of cardio is a Jacob’s ladder. If they were more reliable it would be in my garage. They’re to prone to break.
Seriously? That's nuts. We have the rower (now converted to a paddling erg) and the bikerg. Hard to do a quick HIT warm up now, so thinking about the convenience of the skierg... I should add that I can't imagine it being more challenging than the rower, where 20 min is about all I can suffer at a reasonable pace.
When the weather is reasonable, just go out and run. I run 5 miles 4 times per week and will throw a one day a week of HIIT outside. I have a treadmill for winter. It is nice to throw in a rower and an elliptical machine, too.
Agree that the nordictrack skier is great even for a 30-90 second warmup. Approachable too. Hits that end hamstring range that sprinting and sled pushes hit but it’s indoor and no impact. I find my posterior delts end up being the weakest link on the skier but can always just rest the arms and go legs only. My dad had one when I was growing up and I picked up a gently used/neglected one a few months ago.
No ONE needs a $1000 piece of equipment for conditioning !!! Get a $20 speed jump rope or a 25Lbs Kettlebell for $25. Or free calisthenics or sprints. F&*k NO!! No $1K conditioning.
I love LISS on my air bike. It was a challenge to get into but it feels amazing compared to rowing, biking or running for me. Just got into cardio and its totally changed my recovery. Dead lifting more volume now, not less.. LISS zone 2 on air bike X4 45 min sessions. HIT 20 min once a week 1 minute x 3 minute intervals on air bike. 5 minutes of 2lb jump rope 1st thing in the morning.
I hate to see Concept2 lumped in with crossfit. Concept2 got its start in the actual rowing community. I don't doubt that crossfit popularized them, but they were the premier rower before concept2 was a big thing.
Also this seems great for bjj. You’re practicing snap downs for several minutes in a row. You could probably buy a fabric handle to make it more like grabbing a gi as well.
excellent video and thanks for addressing the functionality of the ski erg. I have all 3 concept 2 pieces and they are amazing. One of the functions you didnt add was the Biathlon. I will do a video on it and send it to you. Cheers buddy.

Oh man I love the ski erg!!!…. But i can’t fit it in my garage gym… it’s the ONE piece I dream about having… I wish they had an option that mounted or folded against the wall.
You can secure the ski-erg directly to any standard wall, assuming you can hit the studs, and don't want to move it around. Foldable, or two piece like the row-erg - probably a design challenge to keep it from rattling.
I actually am surprised at how much of a workout the Proform HIIT/Bowflex Max are. I know, illegal for crossfit folks, but still I good workout. FYI, I also have a C2, Assault Bike, Commercial Spin Bike, Power Rack, Bumper Plates etc. I like all of them. But if I just want to burn some calories, but not be so sore I can't function at work, the HIIT trainer is great.
this is a good machine. But my favorite cardio machine is the cybex arc with moving arms. Unfortunately, they're around 400lbs. I do often see decent deals on them on FB marketplace. I wish C2 could partner with them and figure out how to make an arc that uses the c2 flywheel. It would need to have some battery or plug in ability to manipulate the damper setting. But seems like it would be possible...
Approachability argument is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If a few seconds of putting your foot in a loop, or hopping on is “too much” odds are your cardio session isn’t beneficial. To walk up and instantly do a few second of cardio, you’re not really doing any cardio.
I think Coop takes that into consideration because he owns a gym and many new gym goers are intimidated by the atmosphere and equipment. A lot of Coop’s product takes are because he deals with the *general public* not home gym rats like most of his subscribers (me). For home gym users, I could see this being slightly less important but don’t forget how many people buy a product because of an ad and then are too intimidated to start it or don’t know what to do or 100 other reasons. If you can remove even a few of those reasons not to use it, it helps your chances of being successful in starting training.
I own the ski erg and rower from C2 and it’s a great piece but definitely not a first purchase cardio piece. You are much better going with the rower, bike erg and the then the ski erg. While you can use it for steady state, it’s really meant for Hitt. I’m not a technique nazi but you’re butterfly motion isn’t really the way it’s recommended that you use
