Love your channel. Thanks for keeping it real. You’re what GGR used to be before getting too big and producing content for sponsors that most of us won’t use.
thanks for the tip on adding weight plates to dumbells. I try looking for used 45lbs dumbells for a while and came across your video about adding weight plates. Never thought that existed.
I’m about to pull the trigger on buying a REP Ares & PR 5000 30 inch power rack combo (largely thanks to your recommendations) but a bit confusing to figure out what other brands’ attachments will fit well (or even at all) with that rack because of the small differences in sizes and spacing of the posts and holes. Think I have to give this video another watch (especially that part where you explained it), but curious if you have another video where you go over the compatibility of the REP rack with other brands’ products in even more detail that you can link in a response to me here? Looking forward to filming many of my future videos using the new rack, and will be sure to use your affiliate links wherever I can to help support your channel as I know how much that helps. Will be sure to give you a little shoutout in one of my future videos as well for all your helpful videos in giving me the info I needed to get the new equipment I’m adding to my home gym/filming studio. Keep up the great work, loving your videos!!! 💪
Great info here. I didn't realize different brand bolt on rack attachments were compatible because of the different measurement systems. Good to know! Thanks for this!
Similar to the adapters for rack attachments, they also make spacers that let you use 3x3 rack attachments on 2x3, 2x2, and 2.3x2.3/60mmx60mm Same ppl that make the adapters- KazenDIY and F&F steel
Hey Gluck, great video! Super helpful as I build out my home gym. I'd be curious about your opinion on having a squat rack on stall mats vs a wooden platform (as you have both)? Thanks for the videos!
I like the look of the wooden platform. Reminds me of a commercial space but once you get used to the stall mats you don't even notice. Performance wise, as long as you do your wood right, there's no real difference.
So happy to hear someone counter buy once cry once. Just made it through the year long grind of marketplace flipping to actually profit while acquiring awesome equipment.
I agree. Some of the better equipment is just too expensive for the average person. I would love to have all Rogue and Eleiko stuff, but it’s just not practical
Love the video 100% agree with #1 There is nothing wrong with buying the middle ground and see if you actually use it first. If you want to upgrade later go ahead, after you’ve proven that you will use it enough to justify the price
Takes me 15-25minutes to drive to the gym give or take depending on traffic - then another 5-10 minutes for parking and walking into the gym. Now multiply by 2 for driving home. I could have finished working out at home within that time frame. This is the number one reason I like home gym. If im lazy to drive out, i have no excuse when it takes me a few steps to get to my home equipment.
Did not know about 5/8 to 1 inch adapters. That's a real game changer. Just got a monster rhino but I have a monster lite rack. Really want to upgrade the rack without losing my attachments
3:09 The first (and only so far) olympic bar I bought is a Rogue Ohio Powerbar in stainless steel. LOL. Tbf, I had been lifting for almost 3 years already, and I needed something good for my Eleiko powerlifting plates!
I like your channel a lot ! Very good job man ! I'm thinking about building my gym in my basement but i'm starting from scratch. I d'ont want to buy something that is full price so I'm waiting for sales. If you could do a video about the prices evolution since 2020 and talk about the best moments to buy new gear it would help a lot. I suppose that REP, BOS, Rogue etc. do regular sales and it would be nice to know when those usually happen so I can prepare myself. Buying a Rack,a bench, wieght plates, mats, a bar etc. in one go can cost 4 to 5 thousands right now(not really interested in cheap quality)... I'm also trying to find used gear but the prices seems inflated right now and it would help to know a little more about price history to find a good deal. Anyway, thanks for your videos, they have been very useful and intertaining ! I'm rooting for your channel ! PS: I know it is more a review channel but showing good workouts to do at home with a rack would be interesting to watch (even better, workout to do with your wife so she don't get too mad and see how cool a home gym can be) ! Cya !
I spotted a Bells of Steel rackable curl bar on your wall. You should review that in a video. Also, you might as well make a "best rackable curl bars" video while you are at it.
Was just chatting w a friend about the buy once cry once mentality. I went cheap for 6 years and now everyone sees my gym and thinks I’ve always had it. Some people just won’t enjoy the home gym and that’s ok, but nothing worse than buying a ton of stuff and never using it. Nice video!!
Great info. I like the fact you didn’t go over the same old ish everyone always goes over for home gym essentials. Man looking is a true thing. My wife always grabs stuff I can’t see right in front of me. Haha
Bet that video took some time to make, lot of info and details, I especially liked the wall control part, U taught me all about it and now I'm a hero with my guys, they love the way it looks. I should get the lights to go with it too.
Will the microgainz plates slide down the dumbbell handles? I have the rubber hex ergo handle dumbbells in 10 lbs. increments and these might come in handy.
You mean slide down off the end head side where it goes from flat to tapered? They can a little but when your hand is there they stay put. I use them a lot to make 105s and I've noticed the slide but not enough to call it an issue.
Main regret I have is buying a REP 5000 instead of a 4000 5000 attachments and parts are more expensive and never go on sale while 4000 parts and attachments regularly go on sale, and everyone makes there attachments in 5/8" and 1" now And the 4000 has 1" spacing in the core which would fit my benching better
Nice video, space and bar storage is key. I sacrificed wall mounting my bars for mirrors. All though I love my mirrrors it’s somewhat annoying especially with a ssb they are huge
Horse Stall mats !! I was putting together a Smith cage and took your recommendation for flooring, it's a spot on recommendation. I picked up two 4'x6' stall mats from T$C, $49 each, they are HEAVY and not about to slide or tear. No issues dropping Olympic plates on them.
Best budget flooring there is. Mine are taped along the seams because it makes it easier to clean and holds them I'm place better if there's nothing on top.
good hack to adjust small pin accessories to larger buy 2 part urethane resin. get a pvc pipe where ID is slight less than diameter of hole, place pvc pipe over the pin, pour the urethane solution in donut gap and let cure. It will cure and give you a very quiet pin to place into larger racks holes. a bit of work but you will have urethane left over for additional conversions.
Great video. My second time watching. I forgot that you covered the 5/8 to 1” adapters. Great information. Bells should have this as a product and maybe they would sell more Seal Rows.
I have used thick wall diameter steel tube w/ JB weld the concept is similar except it's not removable. Those adapters work well and the only potential issue if there is one is play assuming a metric to inches incompatibility but will be small... Exp a true 3"x3" attachment on a 75mm x 75mm rack (2.95" x 2.95") might have play, if it's too tight might be the opposite but they are really beneficial in switching a 5/8ths pinned attachment to a larger hole. The difference in racks is 1/20th of an inch.
They work pretty well with some caveats. I'm not sure I'd rely on them for thing that I'm really stressing the attachment for. 1" pins are obviously stronger so we probably shouldn't adapt everything haphazardly. Also if your attachment requires two pins like Bells seal row just realize you'll still have to use the 5/8" through pin to lock it in place. Not a big deal but something to note. And as before putting inches on metric you'll have extra wiggle and going the opposite it'll be tight.
I’m working on my home gym and have lots of room, full basement, but real low ceilings… 77 in is best but can get lower. I’m big fan of rep products for bench and dumbbells got 5 to 60 rn. What can I get to make better. Thanks
Can't imagine it'll fit. At least the Ares. The tolerances are incredibly tight so a very small difference will mess it up. The Athena isn't as complex but that review is probably a ways out
Haven't done a comparison on those. I've owned a few and used a few more but I'm not sure I've got enough experience (or money 😂) to do a big showdown.

$35 for a spacer is crazy. I found high density rubber spacers on Amazon that are 5/8” to 1” and worked great on my spotter arms. You can stack them up to cover the entire pin if length is an issue which I swear to god for me it’s not I promise
