That’s what I said. I know people that held loved ones for 3 weeks and the only thing different, was the body was a bit darker but still looked peaceful. They didn’t embalm her and they definitely didn’t keep her body in the cooler.
My grandfather died during covid and it took us 3 weeks to bury him. At his funeral, he looked like he was 60 years old again. He looked so handsome and happy. That's my last memory of him. It still brings me some peace. I'm so sorry for this family to have that awful memory to live with.
We buried my mom during COVID as well, It only took 1 week and she looked like an Angel 😇 but we still did a closed casket graveside memorial 🙏🏽❤️….now we waited on the headstone forever
Well that not always what happens and u can’t stop decomposition! Funeral didn’t didn’t do anything but what the family asked them to do and absolutely did nothing wrong! Sometimes that just how it goes!
Seeing your deceased loved one's body is difficult enough even when it's properly preserved. To see the body all rotted and mangled has got to be a type of pain I can't even imagine. And the fact that the family is Haitian, a culture that holds high reverence for the treatment of their dead, makes it even more tragic.
Because people cannot accept that that's what happens to us when we die. Unless the body is preserved, it will rot, it will decay, it will decompose. Decomposition is a natural process of cleaning up and clearing away what's dead. We are so accustomed to life, that death is seen as ungodly and unholy. We treat death like we do life, if it's beautiful, it's approachable, if it's ugly and rotten to the core, we tend to stay away. It's human nature.
At my grandma's funeral I was so scared to look into the casket. When I finally did I was so relieved to see how peaceful and well put together she was. The fact that that last memory was robbed from these people is sickening.
That's awful. It's already a nightmare for a parent to bury their children but this takes it to another horrific level. This is a disgrace to mortitioners everywhere.
This woman was one of my best friends and it's devastating to me and everyone who knew and loved her that this us the way she was treated. She was a beautiful, kind, FUNNY, sarcastic, loving and loyal person and she is missed terribly. I can't believe that she is gone but she will forever live on in our hearts. Sleep in peace Regina.

@@ohsoocrazy I wondered the same thing, if she was in a bad car accident, her body suffered damage, but she may not have been embalmed right away and that will have the body decomposed and smelly, considering the heat as well. The "best friend" or so she says, may not know the details of it all.
💨💨 This is UNACCEPTABLE! Her body also had maggots crawling around. My goodness. She died peacefully in her sleep peacefully but this is a nightmare to the family.
My God. Tht is awful. Yeah this funeral home dropped the ball big time. It’s obvious they did something wrong. Either didn’t keep the body refrigerated or didn’t embalm correctly. If they’re into cutting corners like that then they should just shut down. No family deserves to deal w such at an already difficult time. Especially w as much as these funeral homes charge. I hope the family gets justice for this.
We'll find out after the court hearing. Guilty people don't usually give interviews and which makes me think maybe someone might not be telling the truth.
That is beyond sad and unacceptable... I was beyond grateful for the funeral director when my 9-month-old baby passed away. She literally had him looking like an angel. I couldn't believe how angelic he looked. My child was literally glowing! I gave the director the biggest hug and thanked her from the bottom of my heart, with tears streaming down my face. She cried as well... I wish this is how this family would have felt when they saw their loved one for the last time...
That’s unacceptable my father was kept in the mortuary for a month due to covid and his body was well preserved. I hope this family gets the compensation they deserve. This is terrible. This is the last thing they should have to deal with. Condolences to her and her family.
If the family paid for the upkeep required for such a period of time then yes but if they only put up enough money for a service and embalming that only covered a short period of time then they took their own risk

I can’t even imagine the shock and horror this poor mother felt. The funeral home couldn’t have performed the embalming procedure and stored her properly. My father passed away last March and we had family coming from Italy. The funeral home held him for nearly 11 days and he looked very nice. There was no smell, he was dressed as neatly as he did when he was alive. There is absolutely NO excuse for what this funeral home did.
Was he white passing or light skinned? I say this with the utmost respect. I'm only trying to gain information to figure out why this has happened. Ultimately it points to the particular funeral home and their negligence. I'm just trying to see if any more possible factors could have been at play.
RIP Regina! One of the sweetest, wittiest people I ever worked with! My damn this is heart breaking! You deserved so much more than this ! I couldn’t even think straight if they did this to one of my loved ones! Smh 🤦🏽♂️
There are so many horrible stories about these funeral homes smh… I cannot believe things like this happen. Families are already heartbroken and then they have to deal with disrespect😟
I've been to an open casket funeral of a person that had been deceased for about 2 weeks, and she looked presentable. Prompt body pickup, prompt embalming and preserving of the body, prompt refrigeration of the body are critical. Every single step in preparing a body is extremely, extremely time sensitive. This funeral home really dropped the ball and did this beautiful young woman AND her family a huge disservice. They deserve a refund, and I'm glad they filed a lawsuit. I'm glad this funeral director seemed emotional, apologized or attempted to apologize..but it's a too little, too late situation. You have to do things on strict protocol, and the way her body was presented...besides the decomposition, I cannot even imagine their horror and mental, emotional anguish!!! They deserve a full settlement and refund, that won't even take the terrible memories away...but it's the least they can have. I am so sorry this family had to endure this trauma, they were already traumatized by her untimely death. Being a funeral director is a calling, it's not just a career. You must take every step to preparing a body as if that person was your own family member. Was this beautiful young woman treated like family? Was her family treated this way? Absolutely NOT. So sorry to this family 😔
The horror of seeing the truth of what death looks like. Life's greatest fear........ being dead. I'm not talking about death as in how the body should look as one would remember that person, but the ugliness of the reality of how our bodies look like in the grave. That is what life is afraid of becoming.
Lost a relative and too much time had gone by for an Open Casket Service but the funeral home NOTIFIED the family of such and so it remained closed! There was no reason for them to receive a surprise at the door. They should have done their fucking job and spoke with the family that it should remain closed and then offered their services for free because of their failures. Absolutely terrible, immoral in how they were all treated, especially Regina.
Without getting graphic, those bags were probably put on her in an effort to hide something that may or may not have been there. I lost my husband in Feb and the funeral home I dealt with was HORRIBLE! When I went to view him he looked like he was several pounds heavier than he actually was in the stomach and abdominal area. When I asked why, they said he was probably stuffed with newspaper because they didn't sew him back up. ALSO...they kept my husbands ashes for months before they released them to me, even though I was promised I'd have them in a timely manner. I called and called, and was promised a return call, but never heard back. I'm sure there are reputable funeral homes out there, but some of these people make thousands of dollars off of grieving, and vulnerable family members, and yet they take advantage. It's unbelievable!

The funeral home could have told the family not to view her if she was in bad shape. That tells me that she was viewable. I hope they sue and win. I had a funeral home do me wrong. I can't get into detail, but this is inexcusable if the allegations are true. Not anybody wants to make up nonsense when dealing with this death of a loved one. Prayers for her family.
Screw his tears, his business lacks integrity. They knew the condition of that poor girl's body was not good, they should have claimed their negligence to the family prior to the funereal day. They could have bit the cost and speared their integrity. Instead they might get sued now for even more money, and their brand is in the toilet.

@@MA-mh1vs That sounded a bit irregular to me as well. However, the funeral home is supposed to be professional. If the two week wait was supposed to have such an adverse effect on the corpse, I would have expected the funeral home to inform the clients in advance. Especially if they knew that they could not preserve the corpse for that long and still make it presentable at the wake.
@@HatianHurricane I look into it and 2 weeks was way long. It says for an open casket it should be done within 3 days. I would have expected they would have been told that. It could be that detail was lost in conversation and then they showed up wanting an open casket and that is why there was makeup on the dress because someone was trying to get it done fast due to a time constraint or the smell.

@@BLAQ_AKBeau this is why you shouldn't wait weeks days or weeks for funeral. My thoughts and prayers and condolence for this beutiful woman's family and I hope they find peace and justice and compensation. Now coming to what saying. In Islam we muslims bury our loved ones within 24 hours. And it is for this very reason that the body of the deceased should not go through this. Once doctor gives cause of death and signs death certificate we go straight into burial process. We don't even like doing post mortems like cutting the body giving it stress but only if that is not in our control like when police is involved to find cause of death incase of murder than we follow law and body stays in morgue for either days or weeks. But we try our best to avoid delays and unnecessary post mortems and just get on with burial and leave our loved ones to rest in peace and be with the creator.
The funeral home should not have waited days to get her body. A body can decomposes very quickly; within 24 hours after death if not embalmed or refrigerated. The funeral home director was right when he said factors that contribute to decomposition is HEAT. He did say that her body was refrigerated. Was it really kept refrigerated or just left out in the heat? Either way this is very disturbing and totally unacceptable the way that her body was presented at the funeral. Condolences 💐 to her family.
Until you sighed a contract they can’t just pick up the body. Also let’s not forget they have to pay first. So that took a week then they asked for two weeks away for the actual date. So three weeks time all chosen by the family.
after 2-3 weeks the body wouldn’t have decomposed much at all if it was refrigerated. I work in a morgue and we have bodies from over a month ago that don’t smell and haven’t really decomposed . That body 100% was left out in the open
The fact that they had the body parts covered with plastic bags should tell you what you need to know. I don't believe they refrigerated the body for 2 weeks and it may have had something to do with insufficient burial insurance or lack of money. Funeral homes charge by the day for refrigeration. My grandmother passed away last December and we had to wait for family members to come back from vacation. She was refrigerated for over 10 days and she was still recognizable. My family was in contact either the funeral home and director every other day. My grandmother had VERY good burial insurance so they funeral home had no problem with getting paid. My dad passed in January 2021 on a Wednesday and we buried him that Friday. We had no problems. I think there was a problem with money covering two weeks of storage and other expenses. If a person doesn't have a lot of money to bury his or her deceased relative then he or she should opt to bury it cremate the deceased as soon as possible. You cannot wait 2 weeks and expect things to go well. Maybe they should have buried the woman and made a video of the funeral. Funeral homes only care about money. We all need to prepare for things like this and not be caught off guard bc other ppl don't have the same concern for your deceased like you would.
@@leftistnazicensorship8882 I buried both of my parents, and both times the funeral home picked up their bodies within hours after I called. I didn't take care of paperwork until the next day.
the process of being in a refrigerator or freezer thawing out for a funeral can cause a lot of damage to the body. If they paid their funeral in full right at pick up there should’ve been no problems waiting two weeks is a long time
Oh my. This funeral home is literally minutes away from the mall I used to frequent. The saying “Looks can be deceiving” goes a long way. We’re past the high COVID mortality rates, so this is inexcusable. I hope the family is awarded everything they’re requesting and find solace during this traumatic experience.
Sorry for the tragedy. Its so sad that the funeral home could not COMMUNICATE with the family even as late as the day of the funeral thus worsening their trauma. May her soul find rest & may her family find peace 🙏🙏🙏
Damn i used to work for gibson funeral home in the bronx and iv seen it all. Ortiz funeral home is by far the worst of them all and on every corner in the bx smh. If she had trashbags around her neck and feet it means the embalmer didn't do his/her job properly and the body was damaged during the embalming process and the bags are used to stop overflow of the fluids. I know its painful and may she rest in peace but if this was my loved one i'd call for another funeral home to investigate what kind of work was done to her and then sue the shiiii out of them for emotional distress and desecration of her body. 😢RIP beautiful
My condolence to this family may they find peace ,such a lovely lady. Gives us a bit of caution when a loved one dies as to keep tabs on the hospital call to the funeral home and the pick up which should be immediately and then the follow up with the funeral home on embalming practice and if the funeral is more than a week out then communication with the funeral home as to how and when the body will be prepared for the service and ask questions. My family has been involved in preparing the body for viewing by dressing and grooming our departed for some funerals because it is for us considered a privilege to do so and it secures our comfort knowing they are looking and dressed as they would have wanted. Again so sorry for this family.
Losing a loved one, especially one so young, is tragic and devastating enough but to see her in this condition would be catastrophically crushing. My heart goes out to this family.
The heat factor? Are they on a deserted island without electricity? If somehow 2 weeks was too long to wait they should have said so. This is their business and definitely not his 1st rodeo. Sounds like he left some horribly incompetent people in charge and ended up traumatizing this poor family. Anyone with any sense would have said we cannot show her like this.

Secondly, the funeral home hasn't denied that the body was decomposed, and didn't report that it was decomposed when they took it from the medical examiner's office. There also pictures of the body while at the medical examiner's office, and the body was not decomposed while in the medical examiner's office.
@@tomservo5007 It was the responsibility of the funeral home to notify the family that the body had decomposed, and further, that there would be challenges in making the body presentable. They didn't do that. Instead, they hid the body from the family as long as they could using lame excuses - such as, "she's naked right now" right up until the funeral, and then used GARBAGE BAGS on the body the day of the funeral to hide the worst areas of decomposition. If nothing else, that *alone* shows the unprofessional conduct of this funeral home. Whether there are other *documented* complaints is completely irrelevant. We have proof in the use of the garbage bags alone in how unprofessionally THIS body and THIS family was treated. Any funeral home that would do this is a disgrace.
2 things stick out here: #1 White funeral homes typically don't deal with Black bodies. You have good and bad funeral homes in both Black and White communities, but each kind is specialized in taking care of their own kind. What you can't do is randomly pick a funeral home from the phone book, which sounds like what they did, w/o having knowledge of that funeral home's history (i.e. what do people say who has used them in the past? What does their work look like? Have you been to a funeral arranged by them?, etc, etc.). American families typically have a relationship with a particular funeral home. These people were from Haiti and may not have understood that funeral homes here are segregated for the purpose of quality of care, i.e. getting the makeup/ skintoning correct. This facility didn't tell the quiet part outloud because they didn't want to be sued. #2 They waited too long to pick up that body. The Board of Health requires a body to be buried or cremated 14 days after death. It took the funeral home 10 days to pick up the body and then they waited till the family arrived from outside the country. Refrigeration slows down decomposition, it doesn't stop it. Once the body reaches advanced stages of de composition, the options are limited, you can't mask decomposition w/ makeup, which is what it look like happened here! Not every family or culture believes in cremation, which I don't believe these individuals did, as a function of their culture, so it had to be tragic for them to accept this resolution. So sorry for both parties.
I was looking for this comment! Black Americans typically go to other Black Americans for our funeral care for many reasons. The most important reason is for dignity in death. Those who state the body was held too long at the funeral home are ignorant to the fact that we have our own practices & customs which a Black funeral home would have understood.
@@tracyt.2534 I was talking about the amount of time the family waited to have the service. The ME picked up the body on June 25 and an autopsy was performed. The funeral home alleges they received the body on the 29th. The family set the funeral for July 9th which is not an inordinate amount of time for a Black family. It sounds like the body was not embalmed or refrigerated. The description is something out of a horror movie & the family should not have been subjected to that.
When my mom passed away 4 years ago, the funeral home was an absolute godsend. They made the process so much easier. It was 10 days between the day of my mom's passing and her funeral and they made sure that her body was well taken care of. This experience that this family had is absolutely horrifying.

There was no prompt pick up.
Yes our friend got picked up and very same day she passed. Just a few hours later. 🙏
Lost a relative and too much time had gone by for an Open Casket Service but the funeral home NOTIFIED the family of such and so it remained closed!

It’s hard enough dealing with a loss, and to go through this is unimaginable

It was the responsibility of the funeral home to notify the family that the body had decomposed, and further, that there would be challenges in making the body presentable.
God bless this family!
Very interesting take, about the specialization of ethnicities.
Why did they wait 10 days? That’s just insane!!!
I was looking for this comment! Black Americans typically go to other Black Americans for our funeral care for many reasons. The most important reason is for dignity in death. Those who state the body was held too long at the funeral home are ignorant to the fact that we have our own practices & customs which a Black funeral home would have understood.
@@LeiLei51 someone said they didn’t pick her up for 10 days. Did they leave her at home? If so, that’s what’s so sad!!! That shouldn’t have happened!

I dont know why this was suggested to me but this is heartbreaking. It's like her family is having to go through her death twice. They had zero respect for the poor woman that passed away and I'm glad they're suing. Sending love and thoughts to her family from Atlanta 💜
Same here. I don’t know where this video came but my condolences
Yes & also like she said...in the Haitian community, the dead are sacred. So so sad!
It’s bad enough to lose a loved one, but for this to happen is unacceptable and disrespectful to the family. My condolences and prayers to the family. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Probably Mexicans
@spiceyky5025 Ha Ha.
This brings back memories of my brother who passed in January of last year. It was during covid. The mortuary would not let my mom see the body. He died in January and his services weren't until April. And they let us finally see his body a week before his services (almost 3 months later). He was unrecognizable. He pretty much looked like a mummy. His skin/body was black looked like he was burned. Horrifying. They said it was because of how long he had been in the freezer but then why weren't we allowed to see him when they first picked up his body.....I never wish this upon anyone. It's so heartbreaking. #LLD #RIPCarnalito

So sorry. Covid has really affected us in so many different ways.
I wonder how did she die? None of my business but just curious. She looks so young.
She asked stupid questions that didn't evolve her. Better be careful
@@JezusC that's pretty rude of you.
I'm curious too
@@xavierwilliams4119 I seen another video. They said she died in her sleep.
@@JezusC you need help.
So sad!!!! This is horrible!!! SUE THEM!!! This is no way a family should have to remember their loved one. Some of these funeral homes are too shady!!!!
This is what happens when cowboy funeral companies are allowed to operate, all for money, this will only get worse.
Funeral Home in Colorado lost my mothers body. The wrong body was in casket. She was buried for 10 days as another woman with same last name. 10 years and still not over it.
May she rest in peace. The dead should be buried within 7 days. 2 weeks in a heatwave isn't helping. Definitely needs an investigation though.
Not if it's properly refrigerated or embalmed. They didn't do either one in a timely fashion. Bodies can be preserved for weeks or months
@@prophet4L Wrong. Embalming cannot postpone deterioration past one week, even refrigerated. They waited 2 weeks.
The family doesn’t seem to understand that having the cheapest possible arrangements plus at :30 they put off the funeral for TWO WEEKS so the body isn’t going to look “fresh.”
@@prophet4L Very true. My neighbor had to be kept refrigerated for almost a month, while funds were put together, because she didn’t have insurance. Thankfully, she still looked the same!
@@prophet4L Exactly. They handled her body poorly.
I'd being going to jail for homicide ain't no one treating my family like that got me f up
If you tried anything you be in the same funeral home the same day by severe trauma to the colon
@@JezusC 🤡
@@prophet4L I don't care about your job son if I need one I'll hire a good one
I thank God you survived, God is good. Thank you Lord.. 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
What a beautiful young lady😭😭 Rest In Peace 💐💐💐
Just wow. Sending my deepest condolences to this family and all their loved ones. No one should have to go thru an ordeal like this. May their queen R.I.P.
Chelly EXACTLY So Sad ☹️
I hope this place is shut down
This is heartbreaking,my condolences to the family of this beautiful woman .
I looked it up. An embalmed body will last one week before it starts to decompose, even refrigerated. They waited 2 weeks. That’s just too long.
Yup! My aunt had the same issue . My family wanted to wait two plus weeks for the same reason and were told it would then need to be a cremation or closed casket
