God bless Her Late Majesty for her visibly willing cooperation with the Holy Spirit making the awful and evil 2020s a great deal more Godly. And may Father, Son and Holy Spirit keep with you. Go out into this poor old world of yours and tell your story, as do I.
Without symbols, cerimonies and liturgy a society becomes poor, meaningless, and empty. This occasion is teaching to all us, I think, the importance of rites in our lives.
We do not need ceremonies, symbols and other man made traditions and rituals, but fear of the LORD, knowledge of His greatness, faith in His beloved Son.
Indeed. There is a need for something more than the physical or materialism or commodities and temporal pleasure. Truly, there is and this is written on our hearts.
@Aluzbrilhou Naescuridão Tomorrow is not promised. Today is the day of salvation. "In my Father's house there are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you". HM the Queen was a believer. She has a mansion greater than any she owned on here on earth. RIP.🙏🏽
Watching Her Majesty's coffin be carried in with this Psalm being sung was one of the most haunting moments of my life. It was majestic in every sense.
I was asleep, here in New Zealand, when this woke me up as it was playing in the background on my TV. For a second I thought I'd died and woke up in heaven.
There is no pitch of Psalm 139 like this not even on the choir’s recording album. This is the only time and place recorded in this pitch ~ it’s perfect.
It doesn’t matter how many times I watch this particular video. If I’m not crying, I at least have a lump in my throat. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.
Yes, through the beloved and active and innovative Holy Spirit, the above is I believe as close to heaven and the divine as we may get on Earth. The timeless beauty and order of the scene, even enhanced by the flaws snd infimities of some people we see there ... and also by the sheer difficulty of the task facing the Guardsmen, and the way they STRIVE to make it not just good enough, but the Best. All just emphasising the true humility as well as divinity bequeathed in this way by Her Late Majesty.
Such a beautiful Psalm. I can’t stop listening to it. Even in her death she wanted the focus to be on our God who guided her in her deepest moments as only He could.
Yes, she was without doubt a woman of deep faith and belief. I give God thanks for her service, but most importantly her service to Him. She was and shall remain my inspiration of faith, duty and love of God. 😔❤️🇬🇧
This is a Psalm from The Old Testament, written by another King, King David. The Queen must have read the Psalms of the King throughout her life. The Psalm describes how close God was to mankind from the beginning. It shows us a theology of creation that makes God appear not only the creator of the vast world as a whole, but also the maker of every single person living on it. It is God who formed man in the womb. God appears as the omniscient and omnipresent, who knows each individual and affirms them as wonderful. This psalm is God-centered and not man-centered. God appears as the omniscient, the incomprehensible, omnipresent-supra-spatial, almighty Creator. It ends with David's total turning away from all ungodliness and surrendering completely to God, trusting in His ability to lead him into eternity (which might be why it was chosen for this occasion) Especially verse 5 (You surround me from all sides and hold your hand over me.) and verse 9 to 11 (If I take the wings of the dawn and stay on the outermost sea, your hand would lead me there too and your right hand would hold me). The Queen surely tried her whole life to embody Christ, which us why she is so beloved and respected. This reminds me, when the followers of Jesus were contending which one of them would be the greatest, Jesus answered them: "For who is greater-the one seated at table or the one who serves? Surely, the one who sits at table. And yet I am in your midst as one who serves." By this the Queen surely has aimed to live her life.
@Shaise Kindering David could hear from God but Psalms are mainly David's prayers, lamentations and worship, which reveal a lot of knowledge about God to the reader, since David walked with God for most of his life and had recieved great knowledge and understanding, as well as having developed great faith and a righteous heart.
@Shaise KinderingYou are correct in that David wrote it. Far more importantly it is the word of God and David was a human instrument being inspired by the Holy Spirit.
You men did a top job . You bore the physical remains of a much loved monarch of global authority with respect and dignity, who was the cap of decency and high standard in a world so broken. You handled that loaded lead lined coffin with faultless precision as young sons of a great nation. Thank you for your care. She was my Queen for all my life.
It's a wonderful comment, my friend. I agree completely. Indeed the contrast between that broken world you so rightly refer to and what we see here is so stunningly great ... and is meant by the Holy Spirit to be so. Which route do we choose for ourselves and for that world? 2022 made that choice rather stark, did it not?

Lord, thou hast searched me out, and known me thou knowest my down-sitting, and mine up-rising; thou understandest my thoughts long before. Thou art about my path, and about my bed and spiest out all my wa’ys. For lo, there is not a word in my tongue but thou, O Lord, knowest it altogether. Thou hast fashioned me behind and before and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful and excellent for me I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go then from thy Spirit or whither shall I go then from thy presence ? If I climb up into heaven, thou art there if I go down to hell, thou art there also. If I take the wings of the morning and remain in the uttermost parts of the sea even there also shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, peradventure the darkness shall cover me then shall my night be turned to day. Yea, the darkness is no darkness with thee, but the night is as clear as the day the darkness and light to thee are both alike. For my reins are thine thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks unto thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made marvellous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well. My bones are not hid from thee though I be made secretly, and fashioned beneath in the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect and in thy book were all my members written which day by day were fashioned when as yet there was none of them. Try me, O God, and seek the ground of my heart prove me, and examine my thoughts. Look well if there be any way of wickedness in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Many Cathedrals maintain pretty high Evensong standards. In many a British city, you ask on an average day what is the most-refined cultural (even leaving aside spiritual) experience possible and that is the obvious answer. Obviously, regular church always faces the risk / distraction of becoming humdrum, which is why the Holy Spirit is active and innovative, if at times enigmatic. Of course, the Late Queen knew that Her death could make a real spiritual difference in the atrocious 2020s. Her husband's pandemic-time funeral set that ball rolling as stunningly beautiful and meaningful (including weatherwise!!). These were the greatest (perhaps the only) beautiful and divine public events of the 2020s. The Coronation too, as we remembered what we had forgotten- that the key Player there is indeed the beloved and strong Holy Spirit as provider of cleansing love and truth, meaning, inspiration and resilience... That could also be seen in the non-random (Spirit-inspired) popular culture of the Commonwealth Concert. Sadly the darkness interfered there to ensure that the BBC did NOT make that available to all. By the way, the Chirch of England online service (a Haven in particular for expats, the infirm or elderly, people scattered where churches are rare, and so on) is hosted by a different parish each week, and the diversity of approach is just STUNNING. A high level of spirituality is achieved routinely, even if it is often NOT as serious as the above, for obvious reasons. 300-350 from all around the world typically "attend" each time, which is telling in and of itself. I love it and need it. And of course recommend. For many it is additional to non-virtual church. We do not know each other from Adam (good phrase), but as Jesus would want, we have come to be close and look out for each other...
This is just wonderful to listen to ......when the choir started singing, Her Majesty was in the Hall yet, so the singing sounded faint at first, then it got louder, so haunting, so beautiful! May God bless and keep up I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen.
@@Orthodoge It’s got nothing to do with that, what you heard was the centuries old style of Anglican chants which are a form of singing the Psalms pretty much unique to the Anglican Church (of which the Monarch has been the Supreme Governor since 1534).
It is specifically an English ceremony, sung to the traditional English chant of the Church of England. 'English' and 'British' are two totally different things.
Thank you everyone for your very kind comments about my brother. (He’s the man on the right hand side at the back carrying the coffin) He would have never thought in a million years he would be lifting Her Majesty’s coffin. So it may be time to open your eyes and your heart to things divine. Bad things may be coming, as we see, but The Queen was taken to safety, as she well deserves. But in going she gave millions or even billions a chance to see the Holy Spirit at work down here on Earth, and be saved. She would LOVE such a mission! Born Again" was never a phrase I expected to apply to myself, but I found myself begging for cleansing on 28-2-21, and the Holy Spirit came. Thanks to the refreshing power of the Holy Spirit. And that also goes for not-obviously-relugious music (like "the Way it is" by Bruce Hornsby and "Ordinary World" by Duran Duran to name but two - they never get old).

I have no words to describe the beauty of this Psalm and this service. The fact that Her Majesty lived, served, and modeled her life based on her faith in Jesus Christ is encouraging and humbling. Thank you for posting this.
During WW2 the Queen's Father, King George VI asked the people of the Empire to pray for a Miracle six times, every time was when things were darkest for the people of Britain, Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and so on, I think the last two were the D-day Landings and the Battle of the Bulge, I can't remember my Great Grandfather fought in WW1 and my Grandpa fought in WW2 and took part in the Landings and he talked about Women, Children, Miners, Factory Workers, the Elderly and the Military going to Church at any free moment to say a prayer and many people across the World saw HM Queen Elizabeth as the last connection to that time, when things were more simple and that people still had the time to go to Church in Britain, Faith and Service is seen differently in different parts of the World now.
A Psalm I have never heard before but now I have heard it, It has seeped into my heart and it will remain there forever. So beautifully sang by the choir. I am so proud of all our Armed Forces. They performed so perfectly. God Bless Them, The Queen and our King.

I witnessed all the ceremonies around the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on television. This moment made the deepest impression on me; more so than the service at Westminster, the military march through London and the interment at St Georges. The setting of Psalm 139 by James O'Donell is so intense and touches so deeply the emotions of the psalm. This should also be sung at my funeral.

The most beautiful few minutes I’ve ever heard. Unbelievable… from a yankee and someone not devoted or knowledgeable on the queen. When I first heard this on the news I couldn’t believe the sound… the vibration, I thought it must be the acoustics of the abbey but then I found out this octave of psalm 139 had never been sung or recorded. This is the only one. My lord… if you can’t feel a little god in this… you might not have a soul.
The Queen was a devout Christian and took her role as the Supreme Governor of the Anglican Church very seriously. Her request of Psalm 139 to be heard on her casket`s entry to Westminster Hall reflects her belief in God`s omnipotence. She even once said that in the event of the return of Christ she would gladly lay her crown at his feet.
Not the Abbey. It is the 700 year old Westminster Hall attached to the Palace of Westminster, i.e. Parliament. It's where Big Ben tolls in the Elizabeth Tower.
@@victorymorningstar Westminster Hall was completed in 1098 by King William II, so it is much older than that. The roof of the Hall was augmented by King Richard II in the late 14th Century.
On the day of the Queen's funeral, the coffin was taken from this place (Westminster Hall) in procession to Westminster Abbey where the full funeral service took place. The coffin was placed on the ceremonial gun carriage originally used for Queen Victoria's funeral in 1901 which is always pulled, not by horses but by hand by naval service personnel. It's not a long distance but, at the pace of a slow march, the journey takes exactly 8 minutes (12 minutes, if you include loading and unloading of the coffin). The procession was entirely on foot and accompanied by military pipe bands.
What a magnificent moment full of pain, love, faith, glory and grief at the same time. Music has such a power especially when we don`t have words anymore.
To me this was the most touching moment from entire 12 days after the passing of Our Late Elizabeth The Great. I have watched this numerous times and it brings me to tears. Still can't believe she's gone... Rest in Peace Our Glorious Queen 🙏🙏🙏
This Psalm 139, this arrangement by James O'Donnell is so beautifully designed just for this very moment helping us reflect on both the queens life and our own in a way that inspires and heals.
Its not an ‘arrangement’, it’s just a simple - but very beautiful - Anglican chant being applied to Psalm 139 in the traditional manner of the Church of England.
The Scripture/lyrics are a little changed from Psalm 139, but even so, what a beautiful, dignified and fitting piece of music. Sadness and hope and gratitude and joy and worship all together. Perfect, perfect selection for the moment.
The words sung here are exactly what one would expect: they *are* Psalm 139 from the Book of Common Prayer of 1662. These are the words the Church of England has used for singing psalms since at least 1662. They are taken from the Great Bible of 1538, translated by Miles Coverdale, a copy of which was placed in every church in England in Henry VIII's reign. Perhaps you are comparing the words here with the later psalm translations appearing in the King James' version of the Bible? Those words are not used for singing the psalter.
@@MrBulky992 Thanks for that reply, but no, not quite. Whether we look at Coverdale's Great Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, the Psalter or KJV, O'Donnell's composition deletes verses 19, 20, 21, and 22 (and adds the Gloria Patri, but perhaps that's tradition and it's an exquisite conclusion either way). And I see the video title box even mentions that omission (perhaps a recent edit?). I understand those deleted verses are harsh or severe to modern sensibilities though, kind of discordant for the procession. This is all an interesting side note for those of us who love liturgy and sacred music and text, but it's a beautiful composition even so, and I still think so fitting. Just beautiful and so moving.
@@karlthoennes3942I see what you mean. Hate speech! It is normal to end psalms with the doxology but not at all normal to miss out verses altogether, no matter how they might sound to modern ears. I have sung "Moab is my washpot" (Ps 60 v8) without cracking a smile in choral evensong and Psalm 137 verse 9 with a poker face: "Happy shall he be who takes your little ones, and dashes them against the rock!".
The fact it seems she was the one behind all these details😲 Such an elegant and educated woman even after passing, this Psalm sung this way is simply the most beautiful religious thing I've ever witnessed

Yes, even at the doors. Read the letter to the Church of Philadelphia carefully, for we are the Church of Laodiceans. Each Church represents the spiritual state of the true Christian Church’s 7 eras until the coming of the LORD. The Church of Philadelphia’s era began in mid 1700’s and ended in mid 1800’s. In the letter sent to this particular Church, the LORD saith: “ Because thou has kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world , to try them that dwell upon the earth.” Revelation 3:10 Because we are lukewarm, we have been given this “hour.” Very important to read Exodus and understand what prevented the majority of the Israelites to enter into the promised land. The same will happen unto most this time also. They will be prevented to enter unto the Holy and New Land. Please, read Hebrews. Now, Balaam contributed to make the Israelites to sin gravely when they were near the promised land. So, do the Balaams of today. The Almighty God is holy above all of His characteristics and we must approach Him dressed in our Lord Jesus Christ’s righteousness. If we believe that we are sanctified by the Lord’s righteousness , we must repent and let the Spirit of Truth guide us in faith and hope, separating us from the worldly things.

Beautiful Psalm....Thank you, Jesus!
It ends with David's total turning away from all ungodliness and surrendering completely to God, trusting in His ability to lead him into eternity (which might be why it was chosen for this occasion)
Especially verse 5 (You surround me from all sides and hold your hand over me.) and verse 9 to 11 (If I take the wings of the dawn and stay on the outermost sea, your hand would lead me there too and your right hand would hold me).
I'm so glad use are breaking this down for me. As quite difficult to understand.
That's some really rich Theology from Psalm. If you are writing on a blog, I would love to read it.
Great comment! Thanks for your insight and perspective.
I watch this every night. It gives me such peace.
I will remember this scene for the rest of my life 😔
Without doubt the most moving part of the day. The images and those voices. ♥️

O how great is the sum of them !
If I tell them, they are more in number than the sand
when I wake up I am present with thee.

The PAINED look on their faces is what got me... Can't stop coming back to hear this and behold their grief (verklempt)
@@jimvega1410 the pain on their faces was probably more from the weight of the coffin. I read it weighs 800kg. So 100kg on each shoulder. and it was not a soft cushion, but a sharp edge
The families of all serving personnel are - justly - proud !
No words can describe this moment. The coffin, the psalm and the soldiers carrying HM the Queen. What a majestic but deeply sad moment. Oh my.
Why can't other churches have such sublime, elegant, classy, deep and meaningful music. A pity really.
Mediocrity is easier. As is pandering to the lowest common denominator.

There are reasons to believe. Keep looking.

We all have a soul, but most have hardened hearts.
Such a pity.

In the letter sent to this particular Church, the LORD saith: “ Because thou has kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world , to try them that dwell upon the earth.” Revelation 3:10
Because we are lukewarm, we have been given this “hour.”
Very important to read Exodus and understand what prevented the majority of the Israelites to enter into the promised land.
The whole choir service was other worldly and impactful.
Hauntingly beautiful psalm 139 ~ Tears and a warm heart ~ Nothing better than this one ~ Has a an inescapable hypnotic quality that draws one back over and over ~
Not a religious man but this was deeply moving.
I only came across this beautiful Psalm with such a lovely chant a few minutes ago & I've been searching for it a while back. I now have it & saved it
This was one of the most serene parts of the whole ceremony. The music is so absolutely beautiful, driving me to tears.
I really didn't think the death of our queen would make me so emotional. But i feel like I've lost a family member. Proud to be ENGLISH. GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN. this part of the day was the most emotional thing ive ever witnessed.
I think a lot of people have been affected more than they thought they would be.
@@michaelmontagu3979 They have. I never imagined that I would grieve the Queen's death, but I am.
Breathtaking, yet so peaceful.
Amazing voices.
This song was so hauntingly beautiful. Felt extremely emotional watching it live on TV and now again finding this video. It just felt so powerful.
Seeing this made me aware of feelings I didn't know I had. I fully get what you mean.
@@TheDragiix3 James O'Donnel will be in charge again for the funeral service on Monday in Westminster Abbey.
very moving - and what an honour these young men have been given as bearer party - a tough job very well done
It does appear the coffin is very heavy - it must be the lead lining. You can see the strain they're under. It is an honor though.
Thx for the term „bearer party“. Hadn’t understood that right today and was trying to find it out. 🖖🏼
@@j.wesleyjohnson214 pretty heavy being Oak i guess, looks like it - and pretty difficult manouvours raising and turning, certain noted the strain on faces, and sweating like they been in a sauna, from the bearskins
@@bertlzansinger think i caught someone saying it, wasn't sure if i spelt it right, but spell check didn't flag it up, so must be right
My brother is carrying the coffin (on the right hand side at the end.) He told me it was such as moving moment that he was to break out in tears :(
I am not religious, but this psalm commands silence. Its a truly powerful and sombre reminder, that as short as life is, there must be something waiting for us when we pass. I hope our queen is with her mum and dad.
You may not be "religious", but you are touched by this event and its beauty into both faith and a selfless and kind wish for a fellow human being who is not even a relative of yours. Sounds to me that the beloved Holy Spirit has reached you...
@@sidpheasant7585 I believe so
I have no words to explain how lucky I am to have found this video. The last few days are so sad but today was the hardest. The entry of the coffin into the westminster hall with the song crushed me. Tears that didn't stop, a heart that broke into lots of pieces and lots of sorrow. Thank you for the video and also for the lyrics of the song 🙏🏻
I am with you 100% on what you say and how you felt. This Psalm and Chant just did it for me.
Agree totally so moving
I am with you. I've been searching and searching and finally wanted to cry again with the world. Long live the queen
Absolutely with you. I just couldn’t stop crying watching this moment.
Lol 😂 yeah man , I found another video on RUclips but it wasn't as good as this !
The choir was incredible ! 👏
