I’ve had comics mailed to me way worse than that. No protection at all. They might as well have written “please make sure this arrives damaged!” on the package lol.
😆 I told the story in another comment, but I just got something from Infinity Auctions that was packaged between two pieces of cardboard that were SMALLER than the comic, so it got corner crunches in the padded envelope. Yaaay!
I had someone mail me a comic in a cereal box once and recently got a book in an folder thrown into an envelope. Made a video on that last one back in October.
I'm glad you were able to extract the comic from this packaging without damaging it. Just today, I received a CGC graded comic that I purchased on ebay--knowing that there was a very small crack in the slab. Unfortunately, the seller mailed it in a padded envelope instead of a box. The slab sustained impact damage, and crack is now huge with pieces falling out.
When I send out my eBay sales, I use painters tape and one piece on each side to hold the bagged comic to the cardboard. I couldn’t even imagine entirely taping all four sides to cardboard like that.
I’ve received original art shipped exactly like this. You have to be a surgeon not to cut it. Nerve wracking and it takes so long but it does really protect it in shipping. Sometimes they use special tape that peels really easily. But what a great cover! Anyways, Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
I think doing that to comic art is even WORSE! It's so thin. At least the comic has some depth to it to find the edge. But man, it was nerve wracking for sure. I wish I took better pics and complained. Happy Holidays to you and yours, and let's have an awesome 2025!
@@gregparker7163 I wish I had made a video about it, but I got an Aquaman #42 (Classic Nick Cardy cover) the other day, and they mailed it in a padded envelope with two pieces of cardboard on either side of the book....BUT THEY WERE SMALLER than the book. So of course a corner got crunched.
Wow. This is Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring levels of disappointment! I think I would have had to methodically peel the tape off. I'm too much of a butterfingers to work with one of those blades. But who the hell thought that packaging was a good idea?!?!! I'm surprised it didn't get bent up in shipping!
@@delightfullydysfunctional I didn't show it here, but I was f*cking pissed when I was done recording. If I damaged the book removing it, they would never have compensated me.
Oh, you are exactly right. That's what I would do next time, I think I was just caught up in recording and didn't think it through. Like someone else said, I should have laid it flat and been more careful. But FTW, we have content to make! 🤣
Did you just say "your handsome host"?! 😅 Hell, you can't even open up the package! Understand, I'm making fun of you, so lighten up Francis! It's been a long time since I commented on here but I told you awhile ago I was about to send off some cool books to cgc and you said to let you know what grades of those books I got. Well, because of all the odd things going on at cgc I decided to wait, and then wait, and wait again because of banana gate. It just seems that cgc just can't stop tripping over their own feet. I blame weed. I think there are a bunch of weed smokers in that company.
You'd wait so long for your books from CGC at this point, you might be dead before you got them back anyway! I have some banana'd books. I thought about making a video on that, but I think people get the point, and CGC ain't doing shit about it, so why bother.
How was that poorly packaged? It did not take you very long to unpackage the comic and you didn't damage the comic when you removed it from the packaging.
I would say there was a huge risk of damaging the book with a blade when opening. I just went willy nilly on it because I was recording. And thanks to my well honed skills as a ninja, I came through it okay. But one false move....DISASTER.
But truthfully. I've had hundreds of comics delivered (oh my poor wallet..) and no one has ever packaged one like that, and never would. There are a hundred better ways to pack it, and Heritage never packs like that. EVER. Plus, it made for good content I guess? I dunno, I'm new to this.
I once ordered a unopened Lego set that wasn't made anymore and they taped the bubble wrap to the Lego box. I'm past the point of saving lego boxes but still, how stupid do you have to be. This was ebay, so the seller.
Ugh, it's so hard to do that, they are the top auction house for comics!!! At minimum I need to send them the goofy pic of me in the thumbnail and complain. Not that it would do much.
It depends, it's almost certain that whoever packaged that has a habit of doing it. When it's their job and they cannot do their job correctly to the point of possibly harming the reputation of the business, then they deserve to be fired.
Interesting pick up! It sucks that the Auction house did not treat it with the respect that it deserved. Only criticism was that this video had no blooper real. C'mon Randy, lift your game lol
Lol, that's by far NOT the worst that I have experienced.
C'mon, I wanna hear about it!!

Good honest video...Thanks for posting.
I appreciate you watching and commenting!

I NEED to watch this video!! I'll go hunt for it now. That's NUTS.

WTF?!!? What are you going to do? Return it, or have them pay you to re-slab it? I'm SURE they won't do the latter, but I like asking dumb questions.
This was the only Bruce Gentry published by Four Star Comics, #2 to 8 was then published by Superior Comics.
I've seen some strange packaging the last month myself hopefully it is just a sign of the season
It was very strange. I can't even imagine it was the easiest route to take either....but maybe?
There was 8 issues of Bruce Gentry. It would be pretty cool to get the complete set. :)
I looked that up after I filmed the video (I make it very clear I'm terrible at research lol!) and I just might try to get the whole run!

There are a few comic stores on ebay that sends them like that, and I appreciate it. Painter's Tape is the way to go.
Tip...set the package down on a flat surface to cut it. Don't hold it in one hand and cut it with the other.
That's an excellent tip....sadly I was just going with it for the video and didn't think it through 🤣

@ yea shipping the comic like that is definitely way worse! Lucky you!

@ oh my goodness! That’s terrible!
Setting you up ,for failure . Once in awhile I get a WTH package.
It's just insane that this came from HERITAGE. Sketchy eBay seller? Sure...but one of the biggest auction houses?? #failboat
UK watcher here, I once received a slab in a padded envelope, of course, smashed to bits, I sent it back. Seller blamed his wife 😅
Yikes! Can't believe he threw the wife under the bus! 😅
this is an IQ test. you did ok....
I demand a recount, that seems too high!
While I understand the sentiment, I can't help but hear those old words from Lisa Loeb: "Pretty, pretty..... Pretty white kids with problems"😂
You’re a girl?
Mmmmmmmm....Lisa Leob... Sorry, what were we talking about?
And my mom said, "It's a cadillac problem"
Pump the brakes…its almost Christmas!

Thanks you, I love it partially because it brings back memories, and also because Marvel can't sue me for selling them! 😆

You could try at least peel that tape before cutting. No way that's the first thing that comes to mind for me.
