I have kicked around Goodsprings a lot.
Now Jeff, if you tell me where you are at, I can't guess where you are at now can I.
The presence of Joshua Trees told me you were upthere in elevation, and the hint "Overlooking Sandy Valley" told me that you had to be the Boss mine or there abouts.
I have found these two items to be very helpful when learning about the Goodsprings area 1) "Goodsprings Nevada" by Alan Patera. 2) "Geologic Controls of Lead and zinc deposits in Goodsprings District, Nevada" - Study of ore deposits and descriptions of the mines - US Government Printing Office, Washington, 1954.

I only wish you were here in Arkansas to help me look over my property. I have found shinny stuff here along with many other features in the rock structures that you've said to look for. I have done simple test but yet to have lab tested until I get enough knowledge to get serious. I certainly don't want to mess up undisturbed ground. I have to admit that quite often, let say after 420, when you blast through those descriptions, I'm like "wwwhat did he just say 😯🤔" and start checking stuff online, in my rock yard as years of runing up and down mined and new hills, collecting tons of samples, NO LABELS !...obviously we know how it ends...
Today it sent me somehow to scratch a bit further in mariposite and fuchsite WATCH your SPELLING please!
and I think I have 2 chuncks ! Now... Go find where from eh! oh boy...
maybe 2 pieces of greenish kinda foliated looking, shot through by a beigy browny stained quartz or carbonate/quartz, with still a special luster though, just a bit iron stained schist...
    Anyways THANK YOU !!!

It’s so hard to know geologically in the east , cause it seems every thing is covered in about 10-80’ of overburden and erosion . Compared to the western US where nothing really took growth over top of it all and built a big thick organic layer . From what I am guessing anyway .

Jeff this might be related to the mongolian death worm. This creature is said to reside in the Gobi Desert. It is usually described as a bright red worm that is quite wide and measures 2 to 5 feet in length. The worm is said to be able to spit acid at its enemies that corrodes anything it touches and that can kill a human. If its prey is too far away to spit acid at, it is said that the worm can kill with electrical discharge.
Legends say that the Mongolian Death Worm is not actually active all year long. The creature is said to hibernate for ten months out of the year; it is only really awake and active during June and July. It is believed that this is because the creature prefers to wander the grounds of Mongolia while they are wet after rain storms. Did you just find the USA version of this thang?!

Did all glaciers carry gold with them? Here in Ohio they say only west of the Scioto river will have gold. Is that true?

    • @BradleyBellwether-oy2qi
      @BradleyBellwether-oy2qi 3 месяца назад

I'm pretty sure every river in Ohio has gold. None are commercial worthy, but they're a ton of fun for someone who wants to get outdoors, have an adventure, and maybe find a little gold.
Muddy creeks and rivers will be difficult to find anything. But if you come across a stoney creek, or especially something with bedrock. Check those first.
If you can get west of the Scioto, you'll have a better chance, but it's not necessary if you find a gravely or stoney area.
I've been trying make my way down there to spend a day panning and another searching road cuts for fossils, or geodes. I just can't find the time.

That's exactly what I do when I get the chance. I live about 2miles from Ohio river, and have been outdoors looking for artifacts a lot this year. I'm not a pro, but this guy (Jeff) using a drill to pan for gold really got me thinking. I have found a flake so I'm a gold miner now. Lol. If you ever come down let me know and maybe we can go exploring and bounce ideas off each other. Thank you for the info.

I don't know if you've got the notification yet, but Jeff just put out a video on looking for gold in creeks and rivers.
Even though I've probably seen a hundred videos about it, I'm still excited for this one.
I remembered your comment and thought you might like a heads up about it.

Yes, to your first question. I found a small 2"x3" outcrop of quartz coming out if bedrock. The cracks were filled with what looked like gold. Can the same quartz vein reappear somewhere else or do they all go downwards. Reason I am asking is this outcrop is right at a good fishing area and is submerged at high tide. I won't be allowed to mini mine there.

yes ..... they also pinch and swell ....and there are parallel veins too

HI Jeff, I have a question. I was just watching a video of spelunkers walking through an underground river. You can see pock marks in the floor of the river and in those pock marks is gravel, if the geology was "right" would that be something to check? I saw the debris and immediately thought GOLD!!!

Hi Jeff, love the videos and the information you provide.
I explore a lot of abandoned mines up in SW MT.
My question is how do you find maps of the workings of mines?
I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jeff, living in Texas, I will probably never gold mine unless I travel to west, but I find your videos to be very informative, interesting and humorous, especially when digging like the 6 million dollar man. Love Lila's sarcasm, "no hablo ingles" poster during a cleanout, was a good touch. You make geology fun.

Jeff, are you a college-educated geologist who got into gold mining or vice versa? which came first? the chicken or the egg? It seems like your fascination with geology came first. Lucky for you because it is so important. Lucky for us as well. I live in the Placerville area and because of your channel, I never look at my surroundings without asking questions!!! lol

I told him it’s more like it’s hidden here because the top layer of the geographic green vegetation what ever. I live in the Snoqualmie area. I’m trying to learn from you but get lost 😞 lol 😝

That's why you use LIDAR. It strips the trees away so you can see the topography of the surface. I've used it to find old lost mines and old cellar holes out in the middle of nowhere.
