We are asked all the time if we ever find Gemstones and the answer is Yes......so we decided to head out to a mine that is said to have a lot of beautiful aquamarine green Fluorite in some hydrothermal fissures. This mine used to be a Gold mine so you know we will be looking for that Beautiful Yellow metal too while we are in there. Fluorite shows up blue under a Black light so we will be using that to find them . For more vids of the mines of Oatman just wat this one ruclips.net/video/YrwR6uY_NeI/видео.html and smash that like button. Smash it HARD !!!!
Could you imagine hand jacking that little cross cut! Those guys were gorillas! On your back or side swinging all day. It's remarkable they did that every day.
I really like the way you are genuinely enthusiastic about not only the geology but also the true artisan old boys mining techniques. Some of the cuts in this video are amazing. Thanks.
WoW In the first two minutes I had to look up some definitions. Love this guys enthusiasm. My friend Steve owns a mine in Southern Colorado. We went and camped at the base of the mountain. Next morning hiked up to it. We spent about a hour in there and chipped out some great pieces. I have a piece of Fluorite bigger than a softball, had so much it ripped my backpack on the way back down. I gave away some to my tow truck driver he was a native indian and drooled over it to make jewelry. Months later Steve, his kids and I went to the Rock and mineral show at the Western complex. We were walking thru and he said "Hey that's Fluorite from my mine" We were at least 10 feet away. I was like your crazy how can you tell? He said watch as we walked up to the guy. He was right next to the people who had the TV show that mines in Colorado. (Prospectors) He had a small 4x4 table set up- They started talking and it was very civil, they tossed back names and places and the guy admitted it was from the same mine. Blew me away. At the end Steve said "I don't mind if you take some but don't mine it out it's for my kids after I'm gone". The guy agreed and gave Steve a real nice polished piece from the table. As we were going thru the rest of the show I kept asking him how did you know? All I remember is he could tell by the shade of the green. Still blows me away.
@@Askjeffwilliams It was a great 3 day excursion. We stopped by his uncles huge farm on our way in. It had a natural spring about 20 feet from the back entrance. The highest quality H2O I've ever had. Through the back, what I would call a mud room was 6 freezers lined up. I did not know this but apparently if Deer or Elk are eating your crops you can kill them. We filled 2 igloo coolers and ate like kings.
Very interesting thread about how to get the fluorite. No one has to has to be afraid of Slim at a shoot out he misses every time,, haha.😂. Such a sweet spot for the gems and adventurous one can experience. Thank you and Lila 😊

I love that you give such detailed information and that you share your vast knowledge of geology. However, what we know today about geology is much more advanced then then what they knew back in the 1800s. And mining goes back thousands of years. So what was the "knowledge" they had back then that helped them find and follow a vein?
Just got back from Mojave National Preserve and Mitchell caverns....very windy in the Mojave this weekend. Took the Cub Scouts and gave some geology lessons on the Bird Springs formation. Hiked the ring trail and admired that tuff at Hole in the wall.
5:49 nice example. Thanks a lot for climbing in there. You can clearly see the dark bits of manganese in the lighter gray calcite. I dont need much to imagine gold being in it. Thats why sampling is so important as you always remind us. 👍😉
You could have the new 'gold' rush with the Battery rush now that As-pyrites have been associated with Li and the Mn oxides are a key component too.... Those old worthless dumps and abandoned minerals might be worth a lot....

Just imagine all the hours of hand jacking just trying to find a mineralized vein. People don't realize that in order to make it profitable, they had to find rich deposits just to pay for the labor and materials to find it. Tough doesn't even begin to describe what mining was before pneumatic drilling. Great video and an amazing job of following the miners trail as they worked to find ore.
It was tough no doubt, but also they were working with richer grade ores closer to the surface. Now we're left with much lesser grade ores much deeper.
Dudeeeeee jefffffff. This was awesome. Besides gold. Fluorite my next favorite. Sooooo cool loooking. I really wanna find some some day. Epic video brother
You mentioned the nasty alcolide precipitant in the beginning of the mine. Does that give you any information that would be useful when looking for gems or gold? I guess it at least shows there has been some moisture moving down the wall.
Have a nice barite specimen I picked out of a tailings pile of an old silver mine in Colorado. Proud bonus from just wanting to check out a bunch of silver mines looked like. All of the entrances filled in so no views possible. Rats!
With black lights is more easy....but that time was different 😊 im wondering if a time traveler used something during the "vacation "😅 I love old stuff have a different smell 👍
i have a bunch of brown 4x4 circle's on my claim. what could they be? only look that way on google earth, when my feet our on the ground you cant tell, just the tinyest of depressions. they look like the test holes just above the river 40 yards. about 30 brown circles on a hillside. either test holes chasing a pocket or a bunch oh TP's spots where a passing camp may have been. its located ona old stage coach road on a river in the rockies about 5 miles outside a major mining town. also found an actual mine father up the hill, looks like it was closed 1900ish. another question is the downshaft err, the cage hole(sry i should know the name ) is located below where a giant tailings pile is with another entrance. why would the pile be above the main shaft? and why is it super fine material? does this mean ther could be a stamp just inside ? both are closed up with dirt. I bought this claim to dredge the river for flour and SCORE it had a hard rock mine up the hill. where should i go from here? blm has zero historical records on the claim? im only a 10 a month patroen atm. can i just pay you for some of your time and advice. i currently have an occupancy and dredge permits for this summer. I can catch gold that floats in my pans ,literally about a nickle sized of fly poop gold in every pan from my dredging. IK i have more flour in my cons but dont know how to extract more. this region is know for the old timers saying in articles, "when they figure out how to catch all this flour someone will be very rich". Id like to reopen and explore with drones or something. ideas?
Former Gold miner "Tyro" AZ. Sometimes when I close my eyes and everything is nice and quiet, I can still hear that Jack leg drill going brrrrrrrrrrrr. 😂
I started watching it 6 hours after you uploaded the video and had 10,000 views by the time I was done watching it at 18,000 views and,Awwwww only 1.7 k 👍🏻 y'all need to smash it smash it hard👍🏻 So Com'on let's Goooooo! 🤠
Drifter drills are faster and more accurate than jackleg drills for drilling through rock. Drifter drills are hydraulic and convert hydraulic power into mechanical force to strike the drill bit against the rock. Jackleg drills are pneumatic and attached to telescoping legs that push the drill for the operator. the big difference is size ...Jackleg drills are still easier for one man to move around
Jeff, I got a question. Sorta on topic, would an underground bunker be a safe place to hide out in a bibical type flood was to take place. To me it would seem counter intutive to be underground. Whatcha think?
WOW, I just realized I went from listening to Zager and Evans' In The Year 2525 and hearing about man's future to a video of a man explaining the past. I guess I thought that was pretty cool. LOL!!
I would like to see those Oatman ghost riders in action. According to my niece her husband was one of them back many years ago. Unfortunately he has since passed away.
I worked underground in Alaska at Nixon Fork. I did not know anything about these things and they sent me on risky tasks. I would go down every night at shift change after smoke out and service the jumbo and it was almost always involving the back on the floor in big slabs. I had to grease and do oil changes. Half mile down the incline. Consolidated Nevada Goldfields was so crooked. The shifter told me if I was afraid to die than I should leave. I did, but I came back a registered union organizer with AFL -CIO US DOL MSHA Blue Card and I organized the mine and will won by one union vote. The Medfra Mystery Mine. Now I am blackballed from all Junior Mining Companies. I know have a taco stand.

i have a bunch of brown 4x4 circle's on my claim. what could they be? only look that way on google earth, when my feet our on the ground you cant tell, just the tinyest of depressions. they look like the test holes just above the river 40 yards. about 30 brown circles on a hillside. either test holes chasing a pocket or a bunch oh TP's spots where a passing camp may have been. its located ona old stage coach road on a river in the rockies about 5 miles outside a major mining town. also found an actual mine father up the hill, looks like it was closed 1900ish. another question is the downshaft err, the cage hole(sry i should know the name ) is located below where a giant tailings pile is with another entrance. why would the pile be above the main shaft? and why is it super fine material? does this mean ther could be a stamp just inside ? both are closed up with dirt. Id like to reopen and explore with drones or something. ideas?
This is going to be interesting exposure for me thanks Jeff

Let's go yes my favorite prospector in geologist
Thanks Lilia and Jeff! Question: why aren’t there any timbers reinforcing those cuts? Scary stuff to me. That’s why I don’t go into mines. 😁
they pulled most of them out years ago to repurpose in another mine
Thanks again
Hey Jeff. What's the difference between a Drifter drill and a jack leg drill. Thank you
Drifter drills are faster and more accurate than jackleg drills for drilling through rock. Drifter drills are hydraulic and convert hydraulic power into mechanical force to strike the drill bit against the rock. Jackleg drills are pneumatic and attached to telescoping legs that push the drill for the operator. the big difference is size ...Jackleg drills are still easier for one man to move around
Oh another thing is also some socs got blown away to.....Jeff! It could be 'the boemerang ' pants and socs! Haha greetings from the Netherlands Jeff🎉👍
they may make them ...great idea
You are the most entertaining hombre on the internet
thanks
Good video Jeff! I skipped Oatman last time I was down. Maybe next time.
If it's low grade Fluorite, you can always use it for a flux additive.
Just out of curiosity does the MnOx carry and Ag values?
its a great indicator mineral and can coat the Gold to give it a black appearance.
20:47 you have no idea it is so big. 😂 it looks like the hammer wont fit in it, then !
Jeff in it 😁
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Morning! SWM
Jeff, I got a question. Sorta on topic, would an underground bunker be a safe place to hide out in a bibical type flood was to take place. To me it would seem counter intutive to be underground. Whatcha think?
yes if on a mountain top
@Askjeffwilliams thanks for tip. 😆
Every time you say, "It's a no-brainer," I think to myself, hey, I resemble that remark, lol!! when it comes to finding gold anyway, lol!!
Good morning! Do you have coordinates for the fluorite? I would love to collect some.
we can get those to you
Oatman, Arizona
I'm curious about the humidity in there ? If it's above 60%
no
WOW, I just realized I went from listening to Zager and Evans' In The Year 2525 and hearing about man's future to a video of a man explaining the past. I guess I thought that was pretty cool. LOL!!
I would like to see those Oatman ghost riders in action. According to my niece her husband was one of them back many years ago. Unfortunately he has since passed away.
sorry to hear that
Fantastic video. Very interesting. Awesome mine
Thank you very much!

I know have a taco stand.
wow ...now that sounds like quite a story ..... now I am hungry for tacos
