Maybe you could hook up a bipod from an LMG to the coil rod as a stabilizer? The pole looks almost similar in width that you might be able to but you may need to fabricate a custom bracket.
Why is it a bad spot to use the detector? . I understand the geologic reason I think .. but what I'm wondering if there could be high minerals ( not gold ) that would make the detector read gold when it wasn't? If so what minerals would do that?
Also hey I wonder if you would like to come up to my goldmine .. it’s a pretty famous one… you can look up the Rich Bar ca area for rich bar rd .. Indian hills.. bud lee mine and the shennandoah mine
I was hunting gold jewelry in 1996 with a Bounty Hunter machine sold at Radio Shack. I had found four very nice 14k rings, three in one day, and went down the tourist lake to an even bigger boat launch with cabins and picnic tables. I saw one of those "professional" treasure hunters with a very fancy machine. He was putting red flags where he`d found signals and laying out a scientific plan, but he became so excited when he found a very expensive ruby ring at the boat launch that he LEFT all his other finds on a table and sped away to an appraiser! I waited for over an hour but he never returned. Most of the necklaces and rings he left behind were 10k though.
Awesome video Jeff. Very educational and informative. Me and the wife are in Australia, we brought a Monster a while ago. The store we got it from (I won't name them) but they said we should go on one of their excursions to learn the detector. They and other people told us we must keep the coil off the ground. We had so much trouble finding anything. I was so frustrated with the monster I was ready to throw it down a mine shaft. Then I was watching all your videos Jeff where you used the Monster in your drift mine. And I noticed you would rub the coild on the soil. So I figured if Jeff does that then I must be doing things wrong. So I said to the Mrs So come on let's go. Go back out the the bush. We rubbed the coil on the soil and we started finding shot pellets. I knew then we we're on the right track. Then next weekend we found our first gold. So Jeff thanks to you you're awesome videos we Learnt how to find gold. So to you Jeff from us Thank you mate 👍
thanks and we are so happy that you guys found your first Gold .....such an exciting feeling huh ..... we have more tips and trick on the way so you know what I am gonna say huh ..... and Yeah....you're gonna get wet ....So C'mon.....Let's Go !!!!!
Another great video; thanks for posting. I do two things differently when I have a signal in the scoop. 1) I use two scoops to divide the dirt back and forth. It's a lot faster for me. 2) After 1/2 the dirt is out, I run the bottom of it over the magnet on my pic. Many times a wire or other metal will pop right out. But, I still run it over the coil one last time, and have found gold too.
As a kid spending time visiting my aunt and uncle. Up north in Placerville. CA. My uncle used to take me down to the base of their property and pan for gold in the American River. He didn't have the knowledge that you have Jeff .And somehow I think he just did it to entertain me.I enjoy doing it and spent a lot of time with him.
You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! The truth is..., i don't scrub with my gold monster anymore. I move the debris myself because between the utter silence and a hot machine can make or break finding gold. That's right, you and the machine are one and need to work together. Machine can only do so much, so you have to do your part. Gold prospecting comes first, then the machine. Scrubbing is the way of the past with that vlf, it's too sensitive when it's calibrated. That machine is the best on the market and far superior to p.i.'s when it's in the right hands. I'll always stay (at most) 1/2 inch OR LESS above the surface, but I'll run it hot, no matter the ground mineralization. That's my lil secret. Great video, best wishes
we like to do that to, but most people don't like to run it hot because of the chatter so we always say when they are starting off to scrub the floor with it in a lower setting ....not so chirpy and when they get experienced with it and can actually keep it at the 1/2 mark above the terrain then to run it as hot as possible
I've been using the Gm1000 for more than 4 years and I always carry the small Minelab Pan with me. I will use it to pan difficult to locate targets but I also place it underneith the arm-rest to keep the detector firm and steady and it won't roll away. Hope this helps.
Good news! The ankle monitor was legally removed! Will go detecting soon near Pyramid Lake. Last week, in the evening, came across a local. He/she gave me plenty of warning before I stepped too close. A medium sized, very healthy prairie rattler. No killing snakes! The black widows can continue to breed as well. Oh yah, will put these helpful metal detecting tips to use later this afternoon. Tanks Mr Jeff. Already smashed the like button into submission. Oh yah, Whites GMT, old but effective, especially for small pieces of flour gold.
@@Askjeffwilliams I interview for a job in Lovelock, Nv. Tomorrow. Lots of mines out in that region. Was metal detecting north of Fernley, the Olinghouse area. My whites GMT sure found a lot of mineralized ground. Would target a large area, dig down to find what appeared to be decomposed granite like false bedrock. Had a peaceful time, found a horseshoe, quail and antelope. Felt good to search a new area. Was interesting to find round pieces of quartz, shell like shapes.
I use a large Pittsburgh Nylon Clamp from Harbor Freight. I clamp it to the end of the Gold Monster as use it as a bipod. Keeps it from rolling down the hills also. Thanks for the great vids Jeff!
Jeff is making it EASY for all you fart smellers out there!! ✨ Those are the best tips and tricks of detecting all in one great video ⛏️ Took me years of watching videos and field work to understand all of these techniques 🙏 thanks for all your amazing knowledge Jeff and good luck to all you gold seekers out there 🫶🤩
I use a 6-inch squeeze clamp clipped to the flat body where the cable goes. Works perfect. They're black with an orange pivoting tip I don't remember if I bought them at home Depot or harbor freight. Inexpensive and works very well. I'm glad you put a lot of emphasis on keeping the coil on the ground. I'm constantly trying to get people to do that. If you're not replacing coil covers or skid plates often you're not doing it right. There's no gold floating in the air. I'm tone-deaf so I dig everything that repeats. With my GPX 6000 that's a lot of digging. Excellent video Jeff.
I just love learning from you. You make everything fun and real. Thank you once twice 5 billion times over. You're the best. I wish I lived closer ... The locals seem very sweet. Love it.
Personally I really believe Minelab needs to to a complete re-design of the GM 1000. Kick ass machine though, but I love my Gold Bug 2 for the ergonomics...Jolly good show sonny Jim ! ⛏⛏
Hey Jeff! My prospecting partner invented just what you need to keep your Gold Monster from tipping over. He's had a few 3D printed and it works great! He wants to send you one.
I use the GM1000 all the time. To keep the coil flat on the ground without it tipping over all the time I slightly undo the screw then rotate the screen around 90 deg and it doesn’t flip over. Also like using it with a pan as sometimes it may pick up clustered or scattered small flakes that take forever with the scoop.
I stopped going to MEAD VIEWs friends House for WAKEBOARDING & House Boating back in 2008 when Reccession HIT US! plus following that the water Levels drop where we use to go are no longer aCCESSABLE PLUS BOAT RAMP WAS SO LONG AND OUT OF WATER that they had to change it up. SO I'm VERY GLAD to see this little quite town survive all all this. :)
Thank you Jeff and Leila, good job! you make learning an adventure, I can see how your passion for teaching shines through, shines like “GOLD” yum yum nugget 🤤

I enjoy learning the basics from Jeff but, I'm on the east coast searching through small streams and creeks. Searching desert sands and underground mines doesn't apply here so much.
Charles we got basic fundamental rules for starting out. Go where gold has been found. It's less discouraging and most folks that detect pack out the trash we find. Look at old geological maps. Follow the old glacier melts. You can find gold everywhere on east coast from glacier melt. Even in new York. Jeff gives you everything you need to know. Identify the host rock. Find bedrock. And take your time starting out. Speed kills. All that gold right back into the creek. Good luck.
I’m doing the same, in NC, things are alot different out here the amount of trash I deal with is rediculous, I still haven’t found a gold nugget yet, I’ve found gold ore and quartz with sulfides with my metal detector. But still not a single nugget.
I been out detecting old mines recently. I noticed if you turn the detector legs sideways and the controller also to the side it balances it a little better than if it was both lined up straight helps keep it up
Jeff all you have to do is give the shaft where the coil is a twist loose. Lay the detector down the coil will stay flat. Once done just give it that half twist back to tighten it
How about adding a bi-pod for an AR15 to your metal detector . It's collapsible and extendable . That should take care of your problem of a rolling metal . detector
Yo, Jeff, I just bought my first metal detector, the Gold Monster 1000,and yeah I'm gonna get gold. 😂 Anyways, I was out in Meadview this weekend lookin for that shiny and I had no luck at all. When I got back to Vegas I got on RUclips and started watching this video and it's exactly what I needed to know for when I go back next weekend. Thanks for posting this it was perfect timing. Your smartest feller I know when it comes to prospecting and I thank you for that. Keep posting these videos because I learn something every time I watch them.
Hey, JW, I'm out here in Meadview and I'm going to a GPAA claim by the helo pad Saturday morning. This is only the second time using my Gold Monster 1000 so if u happen to be in the area I really could use some guidance.
to prevent your metal detector from rolling over pickup a straightbar weedeater handle and mount just below grip monitor on shaft creating a cross . works great.
Great video Jeff. Thanks for sharing your years of knowledge with the community. Lots of great tips. Miner John designs has a really great stand for the monster.🤔🤔👍 Great job finding gold brother. I am going to share this video with some friends.😎😎⛏⛏🔥🔥
I stand up with the coil facing me and the rod of the detector secured between my knees and the head of the detector on the ground. Much less standing up and down when I need to rescan the dirt. Now all I do is bend over to dig and scoop, much easier on my poor knees.
Thank you for taking the time to make / post this video 😊 My husband gifted me with a metal detector. When we go to the cabin in the San Juan mountains in Colorado, I look for rocks while he is fishing. This could be a new addiction. ¥
I was undecided between the Gold Monster 1000 and the Gold Bug 2, finally as a beginner with a lot of thing to learn « for the fun only » …, i bought the Gold Monster 1000 😊
Camera work and editing was really great on this one! Love the cut in of the arial shot. I like the longer format too. These are great! Edit: What about rainy places? How does detection work in the south, Hawaii or South America?
Im not a huge fan of the magnet on the pick end, I rather like to have it on the end of the handle so that my target doesnt disappear while I'm digging.
hey Jeff have you been taking a break from your mine? i havent seen any new videos in awile. great video as always! oh btw to fix the detector from rolling dow nthe hill just put a small metal steak through the pole so you can stick it in the ground.
This is exactly what I needed Jeff before the gold lady tragedy I was going to go there on an invite from Darren to learn and buy one thanks for the video
Idk how it would work with the Goldmonster but with my Goldbug 2 I prop the detector against my shoulder in a vertical position and I never even set my detector on the ground. Also if I have a "target" in my hand I'll set my scoop right on the coil and sprinkle what's in my hand into the scoop on my coil. Saves me lots of time recovering Gold (maybe). RAW
I shared your video on my Facebook... People always love when I post your videos and even get private messages thanking me for posting your videos.... Keep up the good work man
Living in southern AZ the advice on snakes scorpions and spiders is well advised as would be carry more water than you think you'll need I.E 1 gal+ per person per day in the winter at least 2-3 times that in summer heavy clothing, hats long sleeves gloves would be advisable since everything in the desert has spines and/or can be toxic
Get an old plastic rod from a set of blinds. It's about two feet long. Put a screw through one end. Attach it to the shaft of the detector. Just pull it off to the side to one side or the other to keep it from tipping.
I have a bounty Hunter pro. I do really good at the swimming holes around my town took me a minute to understand. Sound indications. But once I figured it out, I was Able to hunt a little better. Can’t wait to try it out in the mountains so come on let go.!!!
For a homemade kick stand per say. I have an idea get a T piece of PVC so it’s non conductive and add a couple short pieces. To get it snug on there just use a piece of pipe foam insulation and a little tape. Put the insulation on the detector arm first then put the T over it. It should work so it will keep it from rolling. You’ll have to drill through the center part so it is more like an X. Idk if they make those types of PVC connectors. So the T should work with a little modifications.
Hello sir love your videos and I'm learning a lot from them since I've taken up The hobby also I was wondering what area You might suggest that I can go and prospect?
I honestly think this is 1 of the best instructional video I've seen on the gold monster thanks helps alot. Liked what u said bout the laser noise makes total sense. Where I go is very popular with ppl having disposable bbqs and littered with aluminium. Also I've been looking at local plants and I wonder if the Holly tree could be an indication of high mineralisation. As I've found them in some of my best spots. Could I be on to something?👍⚒️🏴
To stop your metal detector from falling over why not use some heavy duty foam? It will add comfort, it isnt too heavy but heavy enough to keep the detector in place, It would also add a little more protection to the metal detector. I dont own a metal detector i have only recently came across your channel and gotten in to gold digging and panning because of your videos so i dont know what would effect the detector i just assume heavy duty foam ( can get water proof ) would be ideal. Love your videos mate, much love from australiia
I've been going to a blm area not to far from Coloma over the last few years after finding my 1st 4.5 gram nug... went back and found 5 more then went dry for a year until I saw this video.. I went back and tried the scrubbing motion and found 3 more! Which means, all that I detected before is like virgin ground for me to go back over the new way! Thanks Jeff! Ive also found 2 nice nugz just before getting to Quartzite.. Love that area!

I use to have one of those Bounty Hunter's back in the 90's
I returned 1hr 15 mins later, can I have my gold back?

This guy is the best that ive seen....
thanks
I been out detecting old mines recently. I noticed if you turn the detector legs sideways and the controller also to the side it balances it a little better than if it was both lined up straight helps keep it up
thanks
I can’t wait for the P.I video!!! Ohh yeah
Jeff all you have to do is give the shaft where the coil is a twist loose. Lay the detector down the coil will stay flat. Once done just give it that half twist back to tighten it
How about adding a bi-pod for an AR15 to your metal detector . It's collapsible and extendable . That should take care of your problem of a rolling metal . detector
I love it. Great idea. Easily detachable asswell.
Why don't you use a pinpointer Jeff?
Great video, Jeff!! Very informative. I like the atmosphere you present, and the information in your videos is priceless!! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Thanks so much!
Keep posting these videos because I learn something every time I watch them.
thats great .... you betcha .... really appreciate that and keep us posted
Very cool ...thanks
It's a pleasure to watch your videos JW. 😀 Keep finding those nugs!
I stand up with the coil facing me and the rod of the detector secured between my knees and the head of the detector on the ground. Much less standing up and down when I need to rescan the dirt. Now all I do is bend over to dig and scoop, much easier on my poor knees.
Haven’t seen this one. More adventures with Jeff. I’ll never get out pan no more but I can still the terms and watch others have fun! Thank you Jeff!
Enjoyed the video... and, as always, I learned something! All the best to You and Lila!
Thank you for taking the time to make / post this video 😊
My husband gifted me with a metal detector.
When we go to the cabin in the San Juan mountains in Colorado, I look for rocks while he is fishing. This could be a new addiction. ¥
our pleasure and there is Gold in Telluride-Calaverite ore in that area
I was undecided between the Gold Monster 1000 and the Gold Bug 2, finally as a beginner with a lot of thing to learn « for the fun only » …, i bought the Gold Monster 1000 😊
Good choice!
A little Barrel rifle mount it looks like two little legs coming off of the barrel you can put them on a metal detector some are hard plastic😊
I glued some foam rubber around the screen , so when the detector tips over it wont hit the ground to hard , cheers
Jeff, you can go to a gun store and get a bipod that will clamp to the shaft of your metal detector shaft and it will prop up.
❤️ Jeff is far too smart, thank you, Sir! Watching from Florida ❤️
Camera work and editing was really great on this one! Love the cut in of the arial shot. I like the longer format too.
These are great!
Edit: What about rainy places? How does detection work in the south, Hawaii or South America?
He always has good Camera work and video quality too .... I'm just saying . I've been watching his videos for a long time too
search coils are waterproof the control boxes need to be protected
Wow!!! Impressive picking up small piece of gold
Im not a huge fan of the magnet on the pick end, I rather like to have it on the end of the handle so that my target doesnt disappear while I'm digging.
I use the monster alot. The gpz 7000 is the best. And the combo is the best. The monster does well near bedrock and raking tailings
Jeff I have watched this video 3 times now and I want to thank you for sharing!!!
always our pleasure
hey Jeff have you been taking a break from your mine? i havent seen any new videos in awile. great video as always! oh btw to fix the detector from rolling dow nthe hill just put a small metal steak through the pole so you can stick it in the ground.
This is exactly what I needed Jeff before the gold lady tragedy I was going to go there on an invite from Darren to learn and buy one thanks for the video
Gold lady tragedy?
@@jimmylarge1148a lady sold detectors and was killed by a vagrant. A lovely lady . Awful
always our pleasure
Very helpful. I'm waiting for my MGM 1k to arrive next week! Thanks Jeff!
If you have his energy, you can probably find a lot of gold.
Keep up the good work man
Thanks for sharing!! will do my brother
This video is full of gold, and I don't mean the yellow stuff. If this doesn't make you want to go out huntin' then nothing will! such fun videos!
Another outstanding and educational video. 👍👍
thanks
Living in southern AZ the advice on snakes scorpions and spiders is well advised as would be carry more water than you think you'll need I.E 1 gal+ per person per day in the winter at least 2-3 times that in summer heavy clothing, hats long sleeves gloves would be advisable since everything in the desert has spines and/or can be toxic
Garrett atx does have a nice flat bottom to set it down.
Never too early for the like button!!!! Let’s gooooo!!!!!!!!
Awesome stuff! Thanks for the great videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
"I dont know if you can see that", Uh yeah. Its gold!
I use a pvc T and put a short piece on each side.don’t glue the side pieces in to keep it compact.
Love the content! The links for mining lights, and some of the equipment 404 error, especially the amazon links.
thanks , we will check those out
Remember the song keep on truckin ? Keep on digging.
Awesome 😮, thanks Jeff for your information 🤠.
you betcha
bring a camping air mattress blower 12v portable car charger 15 bucks can save your breath from getting light headed . some come with attachments too
For a homemade kick stand per say.
Thumbs up to you, sir. All of your videos are interesting.
thanks
Jeff I used the loop handle from a weedeater on my MXT . I found one at the dump and fixed the handle to the detector shaft . my suggestion
Awesome, thank you! yes you could be as botany should be used in the field for indicators
Thank You Jeff, I Appreciate Your Teaching.
You are very welcome
Great friend, it's an excellent golden nugget. 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the great content Jeff.
Glad you enjoy it!
Love that area!
thats great , we love to hear that
Great job Jeff, I enjoyed this one.
Glad you enjoyed it
For some stability you can bolt on a thin piece of pvc pipe perpendicular to your detector pole.
LMAO @ 0:39 - I have heard of the carrot and stick method, "BUT YEAH!!!" wife can make a stick of "it" alright... 😛
For my gold monster. To hold it upright i yuse my gun tripod. It is the best
Awesome tips & tricks! Thank u!
Glad you like them!
Great tips Jeff...thank you
Thanks jeff williams. I love gold monster 1000. More videos
For stabilizing the detector on rough ground, what about an old throw pillow or camping pillow? Lightweight, portable, disposable if need be.
I love your videos. You’re so knowledgeable. Wish I had a grandpa like you.
Thank you!
