See if you can fid the television program made in the late 1990s. I used to sit up after midnight in NM and watching "Buzzard" explore, comb thru and recover gold from old mining sites. A wealth of information re: would make one able to work at it. Outdoors, healthy from hard work.what, where, how to make a good living doing so. As a cardiac patient I could only wish others luck. For a young healthy male - say 3 months of researching knowledge and then go at it. Healthy from hard work, never worry about time clocks, no manager except yourself,

@@razorramoang5947 Ray there's an onscreen personality and then there is the "just me" personality. For people who are new to gold prospecting, you have to keep them interested and entertained. I remember something "Pig Vomit" said in the movie about Howard Stern in the early days. Pig Vomit wanted to fire him, and someone asked him why he didn't. He said something to the effect of: "Because we have two groups of people listening to him, those that average listening about 1 hour 40 minutes a day those that average 2 hours and 15 minutes." The person said "His fans are listening over 2 hours?" Pig Vomit said "NO! Those are the people that hate him , they stay tuned in because they want to see what he is going to say next."
A lot of people don't like my personality... I guess I can't blame her she has been married to me for 50 years. Maybe Jeff is a little over the tope for some people but that has nothing to do with the vast amount of valuable knowledge the man has.

I have witched (doused) everything water wells, powerlines even wooden culverts but I had never thought of witching for gold. Interesting 🤔. I have witched with brass and steel metal rods and tree limbs, fresh thirsty young sapling works best. I knew a gal that could water witch a well and tell you how deep and how much flow. She taught me but I haven't used it since I learned back in, I wanted to say, 1980.

This man's knowledge is amazing. Yeah for sure if he's my uncle, i will hide if he is coming. I actually got an uncle like that...he always says " you supposedly know that". Jeff's knowledge of Geology is totaly amazing. He's teaching here in this video not just the basic structures and earth substances but also the relation of all living organism found in that particular area. If you are planning to study Geology..this is one of the best hint to get an idea. Geology is huge this is just 1 area of geology there's more... like history of life, time scale, evolution of dinosaurs, geological time, about fossils, chemistry, earth structure and substances etc etc. If your your patience is limited? you won't survive geology. Jeff's also show here 1 of the fundamental weapon you need to posses in order to survive this huge field of study by being ENTHUSIASTIC...this will help enjoying your study and motivates you to keep moving rather than being exhuasted. Correct me if i'm wrong only 2 out of 10 passed Geology.

Hey Jeff, you better listen, son! This was a very informative video on finding gold in the desert.
I live in West Texas, and the little bit of gold we have here is not worth the effort, but starting just over the state line in New Mexico, the gold is much better. I'm interested in particular in southeast New Mexico just west of the city of Carlsbad and just north of the Texas state line. I know gold was found in the White Cities, New Mexico area and around Queen, New Mexico. I have been exploring the area south of White Cities for about 2 1/2 years with little success. Recently, I discovered an area where it seems I have found gold in every sample I've taken.
I started out taking samples of all the different rocks I found out there. There were rounded hard rock samples, and there were conglomerate samples, then there was this white material I found. On the exposed rock samples, the rock was fairly soft and chalky. I could scratch it with my fingernail. As I dug deeper, I found that the rock became significantly harder, and both on the surface samples and the below grade samples, these rocks had what appeared to be black veins. I took a small pick and removed about a tablespoon of this vein material because there were sparkley specks in this black vein material. Under magnification, the black material appeared to be very fine black sand, and the speckley bits appeared to be very fine gold. All this vein material passed a 100 mesh screen. It was pretty fine. I brought 10 buckets of this white rock with the black veins home and ran it through my crusher. I took a 50-pound sample of the crushed material and screened it through a 100 mesh screen, a 200 mesh screen, and a 400 mesh screen. 12 pounds 5 ounces of material were retained on the 100 mesh screen. 27 pounds 3 ounces were retained on the 200 mesh screen. 6 pounds 9 ounces were retained on the 400 mesh screen, and the remaining 3 pounds 3 ounces passed through the 400 mesh screen. I processed each of the above screen sizes separately by using the mercury method. Let's call these samples 1, 2, 3, and 4. At this point, I had to switch over to grams for better accuracy.
Sample 1 contained 5.421 grams. Sample 2 contained 8.592 grams. Sample 3 contained 4.785 grams. Sample 4 contained 1.978 grams. The total of the gold recovered was 20.777 grams. I'm new at this, but I'm trying to be somewhat analytical about how I approach this discovery. I claimed the 80 acres surrounding what I believe to be the source of this gold.
The topography in this area is fairly flat, which is rather typical for this area of southeastern New Mexico. The feature that attracted me to this area in the first place was a mound or cone-shaped hill in this otherwise featureless landscape.
In every sample I have ever taken from this area has contained gold in it.
    How should I proceed?

sample the cone and the area around it ..... also look at Google Earth at this area and look for different color contact zones

Your out prospecting and why don't you have your GB2 with you to help you know where the gold is? Your rods point to the direction then your detector would direct you right to the gold area... Then you could pull a sample of the dirt and take it with you.... It just makes more sense to me that way... But I'm not out there gold prospecting.... I'm just disabled biker laying in bed wondering why... LOL...😋😋

    • @handleismyhandle

I have a whites GMT, and the problem I find is that gold is usually in areas of heaviest mineralization, and even a good detector gets screwy in such places. Red earth is the worst.

For all you non believers in dowsing rods, don't say anything until you have tried it! I used to feel the same way until I saw a neighbour looking for water on his property with 2 pieces of a wire coat hangar and he found it. I tried it myself and was surprised that I too was able to dowse. It's not a gimmick and you don't need to spend any money to test it out. Cut a wire coat hanger with side cutters or linesmen pliers in the middle at the bottom and on either side of the hook so you have 2 pieces of equal length and then straighten them to a perfect 90 degree bend and you are all set to go! Go test it out! I'm not saying it will make you find gold but it will show high mineralization, buried steel, water etc! You will be surprised! The 2 pieces have to come from one solid piece of wire however!
