With gerrard at Liverpool we never had the ‘best managers’ or the best teams, but he pulled those teams, look at 2014, gerrard and Suarez alone nearly won Liverpool the league. Now imagine Gerrard under Klopp with the players we have now who all put 100% in? I think that’s what the original comment means.

The way i see it is that without Stevie we would've never got Klopp. I think what attracted Klopp was the Liverpool heart and Stevie was at the center of that every game he played

Kaka showed us all what the level of a top box to box midfielder was. 2005 final and 2007 final kaka was a level above Everyone on the pitch .

I started watching Liverpool because of Gerrard since 2003 and have been his and Liverpool's fans since. He has been an exemplery player and captain. He had a knack of pulling out miracles at just the right moment. Loved the video.

I’ve always preferred controller-type midfielders over moments players, but when your moments are as frequent and big as his, it’s hard to deny that he’s an all-time great.

What a player he was. I had never been so gutted about a footballer leaving Liverpool than I was when Stevie left. He gave us some great memories. What a legend and my favourite LFC player of all time.

Gerrard left at the right time because he was getting older and knew he couldn't carry Liverpool like he used too. Which makes him so much more great because that's how much he loved Liverpool. He was willing to leave to help it succeed and fkin right he did

Some would say I'm biased as a lifelong Liverpool supporter but in my opinion Steven Gerrard is the best centre mid player to ever play the game because of what that position demands. You have to be able to do everything defend and attack and have the engine to go box to box from first whistle to last. So whereas there's better specialist defensive midfielders and a few more technically gifted attacking ones Steven is the only one who excelled at all aspects there let alone the ability heart and will to carry a club the size of Liverpool often at times almost singlehandedly for so long and to such heights. Stevie is one of those players, if you support that club (which I do) you look back and wonder, "was that guy even real WTAF?" truly phenomenal player, , the magnitude of the goals he scored, multiplied by the nature of the goals he scored = THAT GUY.
Through one of Liverpools darkest spells, he dragged Liverpool kicking and screaming to European and Domestic cup silverware, and just think if Rogers knew what a defence was, or Rafa knew what a winger was, Liverpool might have won a League title with Stevie. Zidane hassled the Real President for 2 or 3 years after 05 for Real to sign Gerrard lool. Glad he did not go but imagine that....Jeez that would have been something.
As someone else in the comments pointed out, drop a prime Stevie in the current Liverpool side, ....we'd win the prem and the Europa league this year (might do that anyway)I have no doubts.

I cannot stand Liverpool as a club and as a fanbase, but Steve is someone I cannot help respect with all my heart. Such a wonderful player to watch in his prime.
Why is that?. Your reason for not standing Liverpool. ? It has to start some where. For Example at present really from early 2000 A London club of. their SUPPORTERS/fans 2003 Got worse between 2004 2014started getting on as if winning was formality. Now I've say to myself I'm wrong I'm letting 3 people control my liking or disliking something. No it cant be possible. I dont like music they play when their team comes out I dont like their EGOTISTICAL over bearing attitude before they kick a ball. They didnt win a League TITLE for 50years up and down from the top DIVISION like concubines underwear all of sudden their going on like the real deal. With EGOTISTICAL manager you could barely like if you breast fed him.

Even though it was McManaman that made me become a Liverpool fan, it was Gerrard who gave me the most extraordinary memories. I think a big part of the reason Gerrard is SOOO loved by us LFC fans above even the players that brought us far more trophies is that we know, and HE knew, that he was good enough to win it all if he'd taken to opportunities he had to move to richer, better positioned clubs, but he turned them down and stayed loyal to Liverpool his whole career instead. There's very little loyalty in football these days, but you cant get more loyal than being one of the best players in the world and still choosing to stick with your boyhood club and try to bring them what trophies you can rather than leave and garuantee many more trophies for yourself.
100% this. Mourinho himself said it, how often he tried to poach him. I reckon Trent will do the same. We've been quite lucky to have a couple of players like that tho, Stevie, Carra and a couple of others who started at smaller clubs but then never left 'pool once they arrived. I miss club talismen like Gerrard. I’m a united fan but I always respected the hell out of him. He’d go over the trenches for his team. The game has changed since he finished up though, maybe even before then. I always thought his red card against united was more disappointing than not winning the PL. Otherwise, generational talent.

He was the ultimate big game player box to box . Grabbing games by scruffs of the neck. Wether it was striking heading crossing tackling penalties He was on another level precision. He played in some of the most basic liverpool teams of the century but still Brought so much joy and special moments. Absoloute general el capitano marvelous. Blockbuster player there are so many more greats that have praised this man. Totti. Iniesta. Ibrahimovic. Lots of these guys were the best players of a certain attribute. i love mike myers and the fact hes from scouse parents and family aswell as being a mad red is bossssss his auntie lived only a few streets away from where i grew up.
I think Stevie is one of the few players that would've been able to played past and present football. He was that rare blend of pure talent, passion, work ethic, leadership, and athleticism. I'm 💯 certain he could walk into ANY team in the world and make it better than he found it. Stevie was a one of the biggest reasons why Liverpool was able to stay afloat during it's years of turmoil. Only he could've been the captain Liverpool needed in those times. I cried so hard when he left without that PL title.
In my opinion, he is the most complete and best footballer ever, in every category. And it's players like him that truly deserve the title of best football players in the world.
